Sometimes the most profound life lessons come from everyday frustrations. Today's episode explores how an early morning electrical mishap in my home taught me a valuable reminder about the importance of our reactions to life's challenges.
• Morning electrical incident that damaged my washing machine and vintage light
• The Irish temper moment that followed and immediate regret
• Finding help from Bob Stevenson at Robert L Stevenson Electric Service in Grass Valley
• The philosophy that changed my perspective: "It's not about what happened to you, it's how you reacted"
• Importance of supporting local businesses that genuinely care about solving problems
• Brief update on Israel's strikes against Iran's nuclear facilities and military targets
• Nostalgic reflection on music from 1975, including Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds

welcome to the past peeps podcast. Here we are at 283 on a tuesday, on a Tuesday, 17th day of June 2025. How are you, hey? Thanks for checking us out again the Pat's Peeps podcast, as I look out my studio window on this beautiful day. It's just that it is beautiful, the sun is shining, there's a little bit of a breeze. To be completely honest, I haven't been outside a lot today because so I don't know if it's really hot or if it's kind of cool, I don't know, but I'm just glad that you're here.
Speaker 1:By the way, my name is Pat Walsh. I also happen to be the host of the Pat Walsh show on radio, on KFBK in Sacramento at 93.1 FM, on 1530, and, of course, on all your streaming platforms, just like this podcast here. So at 283, you know we always change it up today, you know, just like yesterday, just kind of a follow-up on this it was nice to have Gary Dietrich on. He'll be back on my show, my radio show, here this evening, as we were promoting last night or yesterday, excuse me on the podcast. So Gary will be a regular feature on Tuesday nights for the foreseeable future, talking about a variety of things, a lot of the things that I wanted to talk about on the political landscape yesterday. We never really got to it because we wanted to kind of keep it anything but politics yesterday. So if you were listening to Pat's Peeps 282, that's exactly what we did, and so tonight Gary will be back on. So, yeah, I thank you, gary for coming on. I do appreciate that, but there were a few things I wanted to get to. Alex Padilla this guy storming, or Padilla storming into this conference, kristi Noem press conference it was one thing. You know, what's happening in Iran right now, of course, is another thing. And then this assassin who killed people. I wanted to talk to Gary about that, but again, we kept it light. So we'll cover those topics tonight when he comes on the show Plus again. We will also get into some other stories, hopefully, that are not part of politics.
Speaker 1:By the way, you know why we're here. One of the reasons is patspeepscom. Could you please do me a favor? Would you at least consider going to our website, because I'll tell you what we have. Another, by the way, another new business. I just heard about this this morning. We're getting ready to post. So if we can build the businesses and offer you more things, if you're a business, please, please, let us know how we can help you and we'd like to you know, we'd like to learn about your business, perhaps support your business, because we want to support the local business, patspeepscom. If you would go there, you could see all the nice things we're doing for local business that is going to save you money. Like I tell you all the time, speaking of local business, I want to say thank you.
Speaker 1:All right to Bob Stevenson. Bob Stevenson, where's my buttons here? Where's my little used buttons? Is it this one? Hold on, is it this button? No, hold on a minute, I never get these right. Hold on, here we go. Let's try this. Let me try this. There we go, bob Stevenson. Ladies and gentlemen, I need to use these buttons more often. He is from Robert L Stevenson Electric Service in Grass Valley. Thank you, bob Stevenson. One more Valley. Thank you, bob Stevenson, one more time. Thank you. Button, thank you. This guy could not have been nicer, bob, if you're listening Again, robert L Stevenson, electric service.
Speaker 1:So I hate doing this, but you know I don't hate. I never hate revealing my true self. That's what I always do on a daily basis. Some of the uglier parts you don't want to admit to, but I will. Today. I woke up this morning. I woke up this morning. You know, any time I woke up, this this morning got to go into the blues. I kind of had the blues. Woke up this morning. First thing, out of the box, wake up, you walk out of the room and within the first 10 steps that you take when you wake up after a nice long night's sleep and the first thing that happens is not good at all. It isn't good. It involved electrical. I'm just going to kind of leave it at that. It scared me. It could have been a dangerous situation. Fortunately it didn't. Well, something did happen. That was not good, but it could have been worse, all right. So this happens. I mean, I wasn't even 10 steps into my new day and when it happened it scared the living you-know-what out. I mean it just I thought, oh my God, I had to step back. It scared me. This electrical thing. It was dangerous. What happened? It shorted out, it ar dangerous. What happened? It shorted out, it arced.
Speaker 1:Anyhow, someone was trying to help me. I didn't ask for the help, I didn't need the help, but you know, sometimes people they want to help, so they tried the help. But you know, sometimes people they want to help, so they tried to help. You know, I said no, no, no, no, no, no, no, please, don't, please, please, please, don't do that. That's fine, please. But they did, and when they did, yeah, I'm not going to argue. First of all, it's my house. So okay, if you want to go through my house and do some some changes, fine, even though I've asked you not to. What am I? You know, what do you do at that point? That's pretty bold. I wouldn't do that in someone else's home, like I would never go into someone's home and alter things, I just don't. But anyhow, I didn't want to argue about it, so I let it happen.
Speaker 1:Well, the next day, which is today, or this may have happened a couple of days, I can't really remember, but anyhow, today I mean mean, I know that this happened this morning, but I'm just saying the altering of the electric may have happened, I think it was yesterday. Nonetheless, when it happened, the bottom line is, it appeared to have ruined my brand new washing machine. Of this beautiful samsung washing, I have a vintage light, a crystal milk light, with the crystal milk lady on there, and it's really old and I'm very proud of it. I take good care of it. So when this incident occurred and it occurred within my first nine or ten steps, just to be honest with you and revealing to you I was less than happy. Matter of fact, yeah, I might even admit to the fact that I was very mad. I really got upset.
Speaker 1:I'm sure I let a few curse words fly, you know, up in my mystery hut up in the woods. You know I've already got my door open. Hopefully the neighbors were at work. Yeah, I let a couple of F-bombs and another couple of choice words go. I let a couple of F-bombs and another couple of choice words go and it arced. And now there's this big black I don't even burn spot on the side of this white washing machine. It's like you could see where the thing popped, it arced, and now it's got this big black blast and then nothing. Then the machine wouldn't work. The machine she broke. That is an inside joke for jose reynoso, if you're listening, jose, voice of the a's in sacramento on the spanish station. What a good dude. Anyhow, as I digress, the machine she broke, that's what I thought. Now this is a pretty new machine.
Speaker 1:So again, I was not happy and that's, that's being um, uh, anyhow, I got probably overly upset about it and anytime I I do that. I just regret it so bad. I just regret it. It rarely happens because I'm very happy, I'm very optimistic, I'm happy, I'm kind of easygoing. Maybe some of you are laughing at that right now, I don't know, maybe you don't see me that way. I feel like I am. But I also know that I react. I know I do Part of my DNA, part of being Irish. You know they talk about Irish temper. If it is, it's essentially something happens. Generally you're pretty even keeled and something happens and you let it go Bam, gob, beep, beep and you blow it out and it's done. And then 10 minutes later you just move on and, like I said, it rarely ever happens. I don't get mad usually, but I did.
Speaker 1:And then my friend comes over. I always mention Darlene with a Y. You know she's so sweet. She comes over on Tuesday mornings and brings me chicken pot pies. Now, how sweet is that? She gets her hair done and brings me chicken pot pies? Now how sweet is that she gets her hair done and brings me chicken pot pies? It's just like having Aunt Bea in your life.
Speaker 1:You know someone, you just you love them. You just can't believe they're so nice to you but the last thing they need is to come over and you're all amped up because of an incident that occurred, you know, and she caught me right in the middle of that here. She is so sweet and I'm like, oh, my god, I can't believe it. You know, and there's a comfort level with someone and then you let him know how you feel, like, yeah, I can't believe this happened. Can you believe this? You know you'd be dramatic about it. You don't mean to be, but it's just so frustrating and and she's so sweet about it and she kind of talked me down from that.
Speaker 1:And she, you know, oh, look at the time she says, look, I got to get going. I don't blame you. I don't blame you because no one wants to put up with that. And here's what I would say you know, I'm glad that doesn't happen every day. I could feel it when something that does happen like that, I could feel it. You know, I'm glad that doesn't happen every day. I could feel it. When something that does happen like that, I could feel it.
Speaker 1:You know, I don't like getting amped up, I don't like getting worked up, keyed up like that. Heck, I stopped doing that, even when it comes to my sports teams. My friend, darcy was asking me recently around our birthday we have the same birthday week and he said really, pat, like you quit getting so amped up when your team loses and like that, how were you able to do that? He says, because I can't do that, I struggle with that. And I said, well, yeah, I did, because you know it's a game and as much as I love it and care about my team, certainly I don't want to risk my health over a sports, over anything. So I've learned to be more. And thanks to Melissa at Moon Healing, one of my Pat's Peeps in Auburn. Please talk to Melissa at Moon Healing, one of my Pat's peeps in Auburn. Please talk to Melissa at Moon Healing in Auburn.
Speaker 1:She has ways of helping you cope with all of these and anything in your life. And it's because of Melissa and Moon Healing that I'm able to do that. I'm able to tolerate more things and not get so worked up about things. But on this one, I admit it, I did. The good thing is I know it stands out to me when it happens, because it doesn't happen that often. So my apologies for being a grouch about it. Sorry to myself. Number one, I don't need that stress in my head Darling with a Y. Sorry, I mean, I didn't get mad at her. I mean she's a sweetheart, but she had to listen to me complaining about it and that's no fun.
Speaker 1:Here's the thing that I realized and this has really changed my perspective on things years ago, when I was trying to learn you know how to deal with something like that in a situation, rather than losing your temper over something that is an electrical problem in this case. You know maybe how to avoid that. I want to be. I'm trying to always find ways of being a better person, how to cope a little bit better, which is again why I went to Melissa at Moon Healing and it was fabulous and it does help and I do have patience.
Speaker 1:But sometimes, like I said so, one of the things that I read and I closed the book as soon as I read it because it said everything to me was essentially, it's not about what happened to you, it is more about how you reacted to what happened to you, and that's all I needed to see. It could be something that sometimes it's pleasant. Usually it's pleasant in my life, hopefully in yours too. But in that circumstance, in that rare circumstance where you have an issue that is not pleasant, it's unpleasant, it's inconvenient, it's frustrating, what have you? How do you react to that?
Speaker 1:I reacted inappropriately, in my estimation, because I got angry and you know what? It didn't help. It didn't help one iota. You get angry, you get past that and guess what? You know the situation is still there and all you did is caused perhaps some damage to yourself. Stress, that's where those are words I live by. You know a philosophy.
Speaker 1:Now, it's not about what it was that happened to you, it's how you react, and I'm still learning. But when you can remember a day, when you know, when you can actually remember and go oh, yeah, that one day, and I remember the day where I got really upset and I shouldn't have got upset, yeah, then that's saying something. I think that's real progress, because other than those little issues are here and there. It's not like I'm walking around with anger. I'm very happy. Like I said before, I'm optimistic. I wake up happy every day, but on the occasion when the dark side makes its ugly appearance, you know, I always regret it. So there you go. How about that?
Speaker 1:Now I'm going to have a great day, thanks to Bob Stevenson at Robert L Stevenson Electric Service in Grass Valley who, when I called him, I said I need to find out what's going on here. I can't go to work and worry about whether my house is going to burn down or what have you. So, bob, when I called him, I've never met this man in my life. Within one minute I felt like I'd known him for 25 years. I said why, hey, are you? Are you in Colfax? Are you local? He said, yeah, I'm there in grass Valley. I said this is my name. Is Bob what you got? And I said well, bob, I got this situation.
Speaker 1:I got to tell you about Bob's words, not mine. He says, oh man, I love this shit. I said, really he goes oh yeah, I love it, I love trying to solve stuff for people. I mean, come on, that's great service. The thing about other places, corporate places, where you get put on hold your call is very important to us. Your current wait time is yeah, thank you for calling. How can I help you? Yeah, I got it. Let me see if I can patch. You know, it's just, this guy was so down to earth and so friendly. He loves this guy. I love this guy. He says all right.
Speaker 1:So I tell him what happened and he says all right, well, try this now and grab something simple, plug it in that outlet. Let's determine what's going on. So I plug it into the outlet. I plug in my phone charger Guess what? Because I'm fearing my washing machine's broken down. Plug in my phone charger Nothing. I'm fearing my wash machine's broken down, Plug in my phone charger nothing.
Speaker 1:I says to Bob, bob Stevenson at Robert L Stevenson Electric Service in Grass Valley. I said, bob, this might be good news because, guess what, my phone charger isn't working. He says, okay, now we're narrowing it down. Go back out to the circuit breaker. Bam, long story short, comes back in. I do what he told me to do. Flip that bad boy, the way it was supposed to be, you know, did what he told me to do. Come back in. Plug in my phone charger, bingo, it's on. He says you plug in your washing machine should beep at you. Plug it in. So there you go. Wasn't even nearly as bad. Now, as far as my vintage sign is concerned, yes, there was damage. The cord burned when it arced the cord on, the light burned out and literally burned the plug off the end of it. So I'm going to have that repaired, but in the end it's all good, everything's okay. My house didn't burn down. Things will be okay. I learned a lesson it's all in how you react.
Speaker 1:Today, speaking of reactions and I know everyone's seeing it. Today, speaking of reactions, and I know everyone's seeing it, the big story is Iran's nuclear program's been hit hard. That's going on even as we speak, as Israel now is doing everything that it can to dismantle, take apart in their own way, dismantled by bomb, the nuclear facilities in Iran. And now you have the president convening his national security team to decide whether to take out the key enrichment facility, fordo. And even if he says, you know, no, we're not going to be involved in that, israel still has options on how to deal with that.
Speaker 1:But President Trump held the press conference. I think it was his first press conference since no, I mean, it's not Trump, excuse me, prime Minister Netanyahu his first press conference since striking Iran's nuclear program, and he was talking about the achievements of this Operation Rising Lion, which he listed. An impressive. It was an impressive list lion, which we listed an impressive. It was an impressive list talking about how the is really. Israeli military forces have taken out iran's military leadership. They've hit hundreds of ballistic missiles, dozens of launchers. Uh, they've taken out half of Iran's UAVs and they've established this air superiority in Iran. Now, in terms of the nuclear stuff, netanyahu has more achievements that he was pointing to, for instance, mentioning that Israel had killed 10 senior nuclear scientists he had promised to reach even more and that they have done extensive damage to the key nuclear sites. Uh-oh, all right, that was my phone ringer. I usually have that on Do Not Disturb, who knows what song. That is Little break in the action on Pat's Peeps 283. Thank you, israel.
Speaker 1:Of course, learning in Gaza, the impressive tactical achievements don't automatically amount to operational success, even though there is much damage to now much of the Iranian nuclear program. How far will that set them back is still. That is a question that is still to be determined. Like I say, there are options, the bunker buster, but the US would have to initiate that. It's their weapon, it's our weapon and as you look at so far, the above ground things that have happened in Iran, they've had success and of course, this is by design.
Speaker 1:From the beginning of this operation, of this campaign, they placed a significant emphasis on targets which were not directly connected with the nuclear program in Iran. It was an aerial breaching of air defenses. That was the first stage, taking out those F-14s previously sold to them by the United States, and now here they are, freely roaming around the skies of Iran, israel, saying they dismantled the air defense envelope very well and they're operating there almost freely. And then another focus the ballistic missile stores and launchers. So they could, you know, certainly impede or reduce, I should say curtail the damage that Iran could inflict in Israel and as of last night, they had like 40% of the ballistic missile launchers taken out. So that's happening still, like I say, as we speak.
Speaker 1:And they're also talking because they're after these centrifuges. So it's likely they're saying that all of the roughly 15,000 centrifuges operating at Iran's biggest uranium enrichment plant and the Tans, including those underground, were badly damaged or destroyed, either directly or indirectly, due to a power cut caused by the Israeli strike. They bombed it Friday morning in the first wave of the major strikes, starting its shock campaign against the Iranian military or military nuclear sites and the nuclear sites I should say They've targeted the uranium conversion facility, turning raw-mining uranium into UF6, which is a feed gas for centrifuges Hexafluoride, uranium, hexafluoride. So I don't want to get into all of that, I don't want to get too deep into that. If you want more of that, of course you know where to find that either on KFPK radio or on the radio, or of course just turn it on the tv and you'll see it right there. So there you go. That was therapeutic for me. I will tell you just to kind of reveal that today, and maybe it was for you too, who knows.
Speaker 1:So I plucked a record from my record shelf today, my rare 45s, and no matter what it is, even if I didn't like it, I wasn't going to get upset. How do I react to it? Well, this one I'm sort of indifferent to this one. I guess you might say but boy do I ever remember this song playing constantly in 1975. We just did a podcast about the music from 1975, rock music that is. This is more of a pop thing. It's got the sticker on it on one of the records.
Speaker 1:Because there's two records in this sleeve, I want to pull them out of the sleeve here. There are two records in mint condition, absolutely perfect, shiny, beautiful condition for sitting on a shelf since 1975. This is on Playboy Records. How about that Promo copy? Not for sale. It's the same song on both sides. Let me see the difference here. This is oh no, it's a different side. Wait a minute, I see what's happening. It's the same song on this record on both sides. On this one it's that song and on the flip side there's another song. Huh, okay, that's what. I was confused at all. Right, so there we go.
Speaker 1:Uh, this record, like I say, came out in 75, released mid 75, became, uh, this group's second top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US. The other one they had in 1971 peaked at number four and it was their only song to reach number one on the chart. It was also the only pop number one hit for Playboy Records. It was an easy listening number one hit in the US for a week in 1975. Went to number 24 on Billboard's Hot Soul Singles, which is really hard to believe that soul stations would play this. At least it is to me. Let's see. What else can I tell you about this Major hit on the charts in several continents? I'm just going to play it here.
Speaker 1:Man, I have memories of this Hamilton, joe, frank and Reynolds falling in love. Here we go, falling in love. I'll tell you what I'm falling in love again. I couldn't ever see. I'll tell you what this song reminds me of Laying in my bed, 15 years old, got my Panasonic clock radio above my head. I go to sleep at night, got the fan at the end of my bed and I remember all the songs that would play on the radio that year, including this one Baby, baby, falling in love.
Speaker 1:I'm falling in love again. Wildfire, michael Martin Murphy. Remember that one? 1975, blackbirds Walking in Rhythm. Wildfire, michael Martin Murphy. Remember that one? 1975, blackbirds Walkin' in Rhythm. David Bowie, fame, zz Top. Tush, it seems like yesterday you and I first loved this way, captain and Tennille. Love Will Keep Us Together. Love can go with each and every day as we lay at midnight sound. Dino Might by Bazooka. Together, dynamite by Bazooka. Thank you for listening, thanks for putting up with me. See you on the radio. I'm falling in love again. Baby, baby falling in love. I'm falling in love again.
