Pat's Peeps Podcast

Ep. 297 Today's Peep Is "Rolex" Ugly, Weed Eaters & Rock Stars, Radio Nightmares and is it the Greatest Soft-Rock Tune of All-Time?

Pat Walsh

Milestone moments and exciting announcements fill episode 297 as we steadily approach the big 300 mark! Broadcasting from the foothills of Northern California with weed eaters working diligently in the background, I'm sharing some truly electrifying news for music lovers.

The legendary Robin Trower—one of my top five favorite rock guitarists of all time—has agreed to appear on the Pat's Peeps podcast! But that's not all. Potential appearances by country icon Marty Stewart and rock band Everclear (whose "AM Radio" I play at the start of every radio show) might also be in our future. These conversations represent dream opportunities for me as both a broadcaster and lifelong music fan.

Media appearances are stacking up as we prepare to promote our Pat's Peeps community events. I'll be on Fox 40's Studio Live with Gary Gelfand and Scott Moak on Thursday, followed by filling in for Sam Shane on The Shane Reaction on Friday. The biggest news? Our upcoming Pat's Peeps gathering at the State Fair, tentatively scheduled for July 22-24 at the Save Mart Wine Bar area. This marks a significant push for the business side of our podcast community.

The episode takes a fascinating turn as I share clips from Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd's recent "Fool Around and Find Out Operation" targeting human trafficking, with his colorful commentary on the 255 arrests made. I also reflect on rewatching the 1971 Clint Eastwood film "Play Misty For Me" about a radio DJ stalked by an obsessed listener—a movie that still sends chills down the spine of anyone working in radio.

As we close with Christopher Cross's "Sailing" (which reminds me of beautiful Portofino), I extend an invitation to join our Pat's Peeps Tour to Sicily this October. Whether you're a longtime listener or just discovering us, there's never been a better time to become part of our growing community. Speaker 1:

Welcome, friends, to the Pats Peeps podcast. We are at number 297. 297, making our way to 300. I don't know. For me it feels like it's going to be a milestone. Pats Peeps podcast patspeepscom.

Speaker 1:

Look at them a studio window under the beautiful foothills of Northern California, hot day for the weed eaters. Can you hold on a second? You'll be able to hear my guys out there weeding. Let's see if you can hear them. Can you hear them? Listen? Hear that Weed eating the west of my property, the rest of my property? Yeah, because I had someone out here doing it, my friend. I don't know what happened to my friend Wherever you are, friend, I hope you're all right but he left like a whole swath of this stuff and so they're out there doing that today. Thank you to these fellas. Appreciate that. Yeah, pat's Peeps 297. It's Chicken Pot Pie Tuesday. Thank you to Darlene with a Y, who I can count on on Tuesdays with the Chicken Pot Pies. Thank you very much.

Speaker 1:

Also, I'm getting word. I am literally right now getting pictures just as I'm signing on to my podcast, getting pictures from Bill, let's see here Checking out a spot at the State Fair. We like the Save Mart Wine Bar area. You have cover and are close enough to action. This is where people would take a break and relax. We're looking at Tuesday July 22nd or Wednesday July 23rd or Thursday July 24th. These are the preliminary words here on when we're going to have our Pats Peeps gathering, at least one at least. So we'll get confirmation, they say in the next few days, and then you could begin to promote. But I need to know before the day after tomorrow, because the day after tomorrow is the day that I'm going to be on studio Fox 40, studio Live with Gary Gelfand and Scott Moak and we're going to be promoting this thing. So I'm so proud that here we are at Pat's Peeps about 300 podcasts getting ready to promote this thing on TV, getting ready to tell you how you can save money and recruit more businesses that we're just trying to help. So that's happening. I'll be on TV on Thursday, then I'll be can you believe filling in for another talk show host on Friday. Sam Shane will be off Friday and I'll be filling in on the Shane reaction. Very rarely am I a fill-in talk show host, but you know what? Hey, I do my part when someone needs it. What I am is a full-time talk show host at KFPK Radio in Sacramento, 93.1 FM, 1530 AM, streaming live everywhere on the free iHeart app, just like this podcast.

Speaker 1:

Unfortunately, today's pod's going to be a little bit shorter, as I am going to a Pats Peeps business that I'm very, very excited about Rehorn RV Parts and Accessories in Sacramento. I'm going to head down there, we're going to talk to them about our business. They're excited and, boy oh boy, so am I, because you know what they treat you great, and so, and tomorrow and the next day, I'm going to be introducing you to more of our Pat's Peeps. So this is the biggest time. This next couple of weeks is going to be the biggest push so far for the business part of this. You know I come on here every day and I do the podcast portion, but now, finally, after a lot of maneuvering and, you know, trying to get things right and blah, blah, blah, we are now going to be focusing also on the excellent business side of this.

Speaker 1:

Okay, now here's where I want to start today. Let me see, did I miss anything there? Let's see, oh, yes, I did. Also great news. So you know one of my all-time favorite rockers I would put in my top five favorite rock guitarists of all time. Also, one of his albums is in my top five greatest rock albums of all time for hard rock and that would be Robin Trower. Robin Trower is coming to our area in a couple of months. You know I inquired about getting him on my podcast. I got to get Robin Trower on my podcast, got a phone call back. Today. Robin Trower, it appears, will be on the Pat's Peeps podcast. Oh my God, I'm so excited about that.

Speaker 1:

So, on top of that, the young lady I'm speaking with I did not, I'm not going to give her a name because she I didn't ask her permission, but I will at some point she goes. Well, what about? What do you think about Marty Stewart? I went what Marty Stewart? What about Marty Stewart? Would you like to have Marty Stewart? Are you kidding me? Marty Stewart, who was another one of my favorites I mean used to be the mandolin player for Bill Monroe, I mean I've been around. I mean the song I've been around he does with Johnny Cash so awesome. Which then she says are you into Everclear? I said, oh, my God, my god, what? Because every single night I play a little portion of Everclear when I start my radio show and I was telling someone the other day that no song represents me as Pat Walsh more than the song AM radio by Everclear. So we may be having them on my podcast as well. So this is a great day for the podcast and it's going to be a great week for the podcast.

Speaker 1:

Right now I'm getting blown out by the dust. Right now they're outside my window. Hold on, let me look. Let me look here. Where are they at? Oh, yeah, they're right outside my window. Hey, they're knocking it down pretty good, plowing through this. Oh, what a relief this is going to be. It's mesmerizing to kind of watch it. I don't know what it is to see these weeds just be taken down flat to the ground like this. Anyhow, well, I digress sometimes. I like digressing like that. My yard's going to be great.

Speaker 1:

So, yeah, I'm very excited about everything happening. I'd be being perfectly honest with you. What would mean the greatest thing of all is if you would please, and now if you're looking and you go, yeah, but some of the things I want to do, some of the things I don't need, well, we're going to be adding more and more businesses and that's why I keep reaching out to you. If you have a business we want to promote you. If you are anyone who is listening, go to the existing businesses that we have and support them. Just go, pat's Peeps, they're going to be blown away and you're really going to help me make this successful. All right, like I say, a little shorter than usual today. I absolutely love this. Bite is so great I got to say it. So great. All right, I got to say it so great.

Speaker 1:

This is the Polk County Sheriff, grady Judd. Anyone know Grady Judd? So Grady Judd this guy is. I mean, I love his. I'm not going to say it, I'll just play it for you, but he's talking about one of the culprits. They have this thing called the Fool Around and Find Out Operation.

Speaker 1:

This is going on in Polk County, florida, conducted by the Polk County Sheriff's Office. I got to get something to drink. Pardon me, I think the dust is getting to me. Anyhow, polk County Sheriff's Office here in Florida and their partner agencies. Right, it was a nine-day undercover investigation focused on human trafficking. Thank God they're looking into that scourge of the scourge of child predators, illegal immigration and more 255 arrests.

Speaker 1:

People arrested for various charges, including soliciting prostitutes offering to commit prostitution Think about that one Aiding or abetting prostitution. Child exploitation Marks the highest number of arrests during a single undercover operation by the PCSO, polk County Sheriff's Office Detectives charging a total of 102 felonies, 284 misdemeanors. The arrested individuals include a wide range of ages from 17 to 70. A wide range of ages from 17 to 70. And backgrounds including former NFL player, regional Red Cross exec and more Human trafficking victims. Yes, four potential human trafficking victims were identified. Offered services 11 individuals arrested for soliciting minors online. Filth scum of the earth Identified 11 individuals arrested for soliciting minors. 36 illegal immigrants found to be in the US, with ICE Lodging over 30 detainers. You had suspects with extensive prior criminal histories, including charges for premeditated murder, attempted murder, kidnapping, robbery, aggravated battery and sexual assault. And let's not forget about narcotics and firearms, as 25 of these individuals faced narcotics possession charges and eight firearms were seized in the operation. So big thank you to ICE and what they did there.

Speaker 1:

The goals of the operation, according to Sheriff Grady Judd, were to identify the victims, help them arrest those fueling the human exploitation, and he emphasized that the prostitution is not a victimless crime. This is his way. It's beautiful His explanation, and I agree. I'll preface it by saying I agree with him 100% when he puts it like this about prostitution is not a victimless crime. Ah, is not a victimless crime, all right. Ah, ah, I just blew it there. All right, let's see if we can do this. Ah, I just blew the first part of this. Here we go.

Speaker 3:

Ah, 43 from Davenport. This is our human trafficking and prostitution folks. He's charged with offering to commit. This is this, is this Jason Bathurst. When he walks in, you think, well, I have set up a deal with an ugly woman, and I think you would all agree that this guy's an ugly woman. This is what you really get when the makeup comes off.

Speaker 1:

This is Jason Bathurst. Now I want you to think about this a minute.

Speaker 3:

okay, you decide that you're going to hook up with a woman. She comes in and she's already uglier than a mud fence Right. And then, as you start to engage, you find out hey, this dudette is a dude, and look what he really looks like. Oh my yeah, he looks like he should have been in a Scarface movie someplace.

Speaker 2:

I don't know.

Speaker 3:

This is what's happening. People think they're getting this and many times they're getting a really bad guy. So this is the before and after. You know, when you find them in the bar at night, you know you try to drink them pretty and you wake up the next morning and you see this?

Speaker 3:

Yeah, that's what we call Rolex ugly. Rolex ugly is you wake up the next morning and they're laying on your arm and your Rolex is there and you just chew your arm off and leave the Rolex. You just got to get out of there. You don't care about the Rolex.

Speaker 1:

You're snoozing away. You wake up. You can't figure what that putrid smell is next to you. You're all over. You're like am I laying next to a bear? What is this? Is there an animal in my butt? Yeah, some guy with a hairy ass. You know, got a big old, hairy, like Ed Asner, like you're spooning with Ed Asner. Ed Asner with lipstick and a wig. Oh baby, how you doing that sheriff is awesome man. Anyhow, very good Weed Eater still at it. Pat's Peeps podcast 297,.

Speaker 1:

My friends, I don't even hide the noise anymore, I like it. Pat's Peeps podcast $2.97,. My friends, I don't even hide the noise anymore, I like it. So I tortured myself. Being a radio guy. I tortured myself with the ever with the movie. They will always torture radio people.

Speaker 1:

Clint Eastwood I love the movie. I hadn't seen it in a long time. Freaked me out as bad as it ever did. Anyone remember the 1971 movie Play Misty for Me, but that movie there if you're in radio, that movie there scared the heck out of you. It's about a stalker. I think I'm going to tell stalker stories on my show tonight because Jessica Walter was awesome. Clint Eastwood great plays a radio host. Jessica Walter plays an obsessed listener and believe me when I tell you I've had those in the past and I'm going to. I've had stalker stories that I'm going to share on my radio show tonight. But when I watched the movie man oh man, it brought back some memories and some thoughts, and it can be very scary. She says play Misty for me. She's scary in this. Play Misty for me. Yeah, for Clint Eastwood. An invitation to terror. Isn't that? Isn't that? Who is that voice? Isn't that? Who is that? Is that the guy that played canon? Oh god, find yourself being completely smothered by somebody.

Speaker 4:

there's no escape in passion, there's no escape in speed, there's no escape from terror. You will change your locks, huh.

Speaker 1:

Is that, william Conrad? Nobody asked you to wait for him, You're not jumping me buster blue eyes. Is that William Conrad? Oh, my god, terrifying. Yeah, yeah, krml Radio back.

Speaker 4:

Play misty for me krml radio, terrifying words you'll ever hear. Play misty. For me the screen's most frightening plunge into terror. Have to get you all nice for david. I hope he likes what he sees when he walks in here I got some stories to share with you because that's what he's taking to hell with him. Just hope we're lucky enough to grab her the next time she tries it.

Speaker 2:

Oh yeah.

Speaker 4:

Tries what you know To kill you. The next scream you hear will be your own Jeez.

Speaker 1:

I mean this is as good as Fatal Attraction. Remember that one, Clint Eastwood Play Misty for me. I bet that had so many screams. I bet that had so many screams in the movie theater like Wait Until Dark. That might have had more than Wait Until Dark, Lord. And then you had this song in there and it just the song is even haunting, Even though and it's a beautiful song, even though it's during a part of the movie where it's kind of just showing you part of Carmel by the Sea. Remember when they used to have that ad Carmel by the Sea? It just so happens to be.

Speaker 2:

It just so happens to be.

Speaker 1:

The most beautiful place in the world. Anyone remember that ad 1970s baby Roberta Flack Rose in your eyes. And I can never listen to this song the same again, Just cause it's attached to this movie. And no, I don't own the rights to that. Stop, Thank you, but anyhow. So tonight I think I will get into that Stalker Stories and do a little review of a movie that is from 1971. But that's okay. That was a huge movie and again it's still a nightmare to people that work in radio.

Speaker 1:

Dave Garver was Clint Eastwood's name in this movie. He played a DJ on KRML Radio and, believe me, most of the stalkers that I've had to deal with from radio, not from relationships, um, we're in music radio, not necessarily talk radio, but music radio of all things Can you imagine. But Dave Garver is supposedly broadcast nightly from a studio, like I do, but he's in Carmel-by-the-Sea. He would incorporate poetry into his program and he had that little convertible. I drive a convertible, he had a little convertible, I drive a convertible, he had a little convertible. Go to his favorite bar, play this little game at the bar with like corks and bottle caps. With a guy working at the bar and Evelyn Draper is this woman's name that becomes just crazed, and that's Jessica Walter. She does a great job, man. My yard's looking good out there, Looking really good, so we'll get into that tonight. Let's see what else. Oh, let's just I kind of like I say it's going to be a little shorter today, so I could have closed it with that, but I think I did pull a record from my collection today so I'm not going to close it with Roberta Flack because I think that I have a little more uplifting song. In fact it reminds me of Portofino now, when we were in Portofino, Italy. If you would like to go to Sicily with us the Pat's Peeps Tour coming up October 25th to November 5th go to conservativetourscom and look for the Pat Walsh trip to Sicily. We're going to go to Sicily for the fall. We would love to have you join our Pat's Peeps group of wonderful people. But this one came up when I was in Italy. It came up. I used it in a video, one of my digital postings, because it fits so well in Portofino. It was so beautiful, 1979, it's soft rock, Call it yacht rock, whatever you want to call it. I do like this one, Written and recorded by an American singer-songwriter, released in 1980, June of 80.

Speaker 1:

Second single from his self-titled debut album, which was already certified gold by the time this was released, Huge success in the United States went to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart August 30th 1980, stayed there for a week. It won Grammy Awards for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Arranger of the Year. It helped this artist win the Best New Artist Award. Vh1 named this song the most soft-sational soft rock song of all time. It was recorded in 1979 using the 3M digital recording system, made it one of the first digitally recorded songs to chart and in his Grammy appearance speech he acknowledged this song as his favorite song on the album and that originally it was not meant to be even a single. But it fit perfectly in Portofino and that beautiful water and everything surrounding it. Christopher Cross, 1979, sailing on Pat's Peeps 297. White Warner Brothers label. White Warner Brothers label. In absolute immaculate condition.

Speaker 2:

You can sail away and find tranquility. Oh, the canvas can do miracles. Just you wait and see. Believe me, it's not far to Never, never Land. No reason to pretend.

Speaker 1:

And if the wind is right, you not for sale says right there, One side is stereo, the other side is mono. Listening to stereo. Thank you for listening to Pat's Peeps Podcast 297.

Speaker 2:

We'll see you on the radio.
