Speaker 1:

Well, hello there once again, my friends. How are you? Happy Monday. Happy Monday, august 18th 2025. It's a warm one as I look out the studio windows into the beautiful foothills of Northern California. This is Pat's Peeps, number 317. Just love it that you tune in and listen. Thank you very much for doing so. Thank you for supporting our Pats Peeps businesses. Yeah, listen, 317 already. By the way, I'm the host of the Pat Wall Show, which is heard on KFPK Radio in Sacramento, 93.1 FM, 1530 AM, and streaming live everywhere, just like this podcast, on not only your free iHeart app but on all the streaming platforms. So this I'll start with a. This was a big weekend I went and saw.

Speaker 1:

For those of you who do listen to my radio show, kitty O'Neill is my colleague and she does the afternoon news on KFPK and I've worked with Kitty O'Neill longer than anyone ever in my life, in my career. We've been working together since 1996. Listen, it's 30 years, essentially, that Kitty and I have been working together and we do the crossover from the afternoon News with Kitty O'Neill to the Pat Walsh Show. It's called the handoff to the Pat Walsh Show from the Afternoon News. And for those of you who listen to KAPK, you know what I'm talking about. That happens at about 7.02 pm Monday through Friday. My show begins at 7. Kitty is the Afternoon News just prior to my show begins at seven. Kitty is the afternoon news just prior to my show. And so, anyhow, uh, we are both singers. I'm just a singer in a rock and roll band. Yeah, so we have so much in common because we both do radio and we both sing in bands, and her band is skylar's pool. Kitty's been singing with bands forever. I've been singing with bands, oh gosh, probably since the early 2000s, I guess something like that, anyhow. So I've always supported Kitty's Band Skylar's Pool, and this Saturday night they had their 10th anniversary show and they had this at Wildwood in Sacramento and so I went down to watch their band. Now I've seen Kitty's band Skylar's Pool taken by the way from Breaking Bad, the TV show Breaking Bad that name, I should say Skylar's Pool went down to show my support for their 10th anniversary. Nice, wildwood.

Speaker 1:

Lots of people turned out on that beautiful patio. You know it wasn't too hot, it was actually. It was a beautiful evening and I had such a great time and I just want to say thank you to Wildwood, and I want to say thank you to Linda Clayton. Nice to see Linda and Judy Farah and so many people that showed up. I mean so many, too many to mention. If I start going down that list then I'll for sure will leave numerous people out. It was so nice to see so many people who showed up to support Kitty and her band. So, and not to mention being treated like royalty matt, who owns wildwood this guy was so accommodating. Thank you, matt.

Speaker 1:

Had a table reserved for me. You know what we had. I had dinner there. I had a ribeye steak, had a couple of margaritas to go with that ribeye steak. By the way, the potatoes I don't know what these were like all-gratin potatoes, but I never had anything quite like this. Highly recommend the ribeye and the potatoes and the asparagus Outrageous. The service was excellent.

Speaker 1:

So during the evening, as we're watching Kitty's band, I have to tell you I am so humbled because there were so many people there that listened to my radio show and listened to Kitty and they were out there supporting her and all night long I got to talk to so many of you who came up and said the nicest things Pat, I love your show. You know I heard over and over and over about you make me laugh and that is the greatest gift For someone to tell me, as numerous people did that night. You make me laugh. Every night, monday through Friday. That's the number one thing I want to do on my radio show. I want to make people laugh, sure. I want to inform, I want to entertain. You know all of that. But make people laugh and there's just not enough of that. So I am so happy to be that to have that niche. It is such a blessing.

Speaker 1:

But talk to so many people, thank you, yeah, and on top of that, okay, so here's the other thing. You know I'm always trying to tell you about my business aspect of Pat's Peeps. You know, I'm telling, I'm always telling you. I never try to make this into a commercial, I just try to do a podcast, a peep, and support these businesses. And I keep asking you please, you know, if you'd go to Pat's Peeps.

Speaker 1:

Now here's the great news, because some of you are now, and I'm hearing about the Pat's Peeps business part of this all the time. So when I was there talking to Matt, matt says to me I didn't even bring it up, and this is happening all the time now with businesses, pat. He says I want my business, this restaurant, wildwood, which I highly recommend already. I'll tell you that and I need to personally vet these businesses before I will recommend them to you. But he says you're Pat's peeps, I want all of my restaurants. My new diner, I want Wildwood. He has cannabis businesses. He wants these businesses to be represented by Pats Peeps to have businesses.

Speaker 1:

Tony the Tiger Lopez Plumbing just came on board. This is a champion boxer for Sacramento he's like, and he and I become friends over the years. I trust this dude, tony the Tiger Lopez. I trust him. There is no better person that I mean. I will stand up for Tony. This man cares about you and if you go to Pat's Peeps you'll see him up there. Listen, I can't wait to break the news to you what we're about to do with a great business in Sacramento. This is going to be big. But Matt says yeah, pat, I want all my businesses on Pat's Peep. So we're meeting tomorrow. I will let you know as soon as we get him up there and going. Man, I'm so proud of the fact that people oh, and then we had two businesses Paradise Signs.

Speaker 1:

Okay, who was a Pat's Peeps in Newcastle or Penryn, I guess whatever they consider that there. Beautiful, beautiful business. My friend Larry, paradise Signs, listen, go in there. If you need printing done, please check it out. We're going to be welcoming the Popcorn King to Pat's Peeps. Popcorn King Dirk, who scrapes, you know that, popcorn ceilings that's so outdated. Now he comes in, eliminates those so your ceilings look beautiful. So he goes to Paradise Signs to get printing done for Popcorn King Bam. Now they're doing like trade back and forth as Pat's peeps, because both of them mentioned it. Oh my God, this networking is awesome and there is so much more to tell you about this, but suffice it to say we've got big announcements coming. So wonderful time at the event. Thank you To everyone.

Speaker 1:

Here's another thing, speaking of Pat's Peeps Distinctive recognition. Irish Jim is a Pat's Peep. All right, it's the number one when it comes to clothing. Not signs like Paradise Signs, but clothing. Fire Department in Sacramento, pd in Sac. They go through distinctive recognition. So we are launching our store today. As soon as I get in touch with Jim, it's complete. We are ready to sell merch and we have some great merchandise. You're going to love it. You're going to love it and we've got a couple of new things that we're going to be adding. I don't know how long it's going to take us. It won't take us very long. But if you're a Sacramento resident or native, or if you've been around and know the history, you're going to love what we're going to be doing. So today on my show, I'm going to introduce my new store. This is so exciting Hats, sweatshirts and we'll have it not just for Pat's peeps but for the Pat Walsh show.

Speaker 1:

Got a completely different note. Do I really want to just jump in and poke the bear? Poke the Padre fans as I. Just for a second drift to baseball Go Blue, go Dodgers. Crucial series this past weekend Dodgers and the Padres. So the Dodgers and the Padres vying for a National League West title? Because, let's face it, the Giants, what are they? 11 or 12 back at this point. No offense, giants fans, I'm just trying to be honest about it. What happens, padres? Come to the ravine this weekend, break up the brooms. Oh see, now I am talking about it. Now I am poking a bear. Yes, you're darn right, I am how you like that.

Speaker 2:

San Diego, we dominate. No need for a halo Back to back, we reign supreme Dodgers. Baby living the dream.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, don't worry, I won't poke the bear, this is loaded Crowd singing loud.

Speaker 2:

Manny and Tadis, they'll make you proud. But we got the whole crew Dodgers in the zone. We scream and shout how you like that, san Diego, we dominate. No need for a halo. Back to back, we reign, supreme Dodgers. Baby living the dream.

Speaker 1:

That's peeps 317. Meanwhile I've got a friend who's trying to convince me to go to Mexico and like go snorkeling or something. I love you, jefe, but it ain't gonna happen, it's never gonna happen, no way, no way, no. How he says oh yeah, come, it's just such a great time. I'm you know what. I've never been the guy. There's a couple of things I'm not a cruise guy. I'm not a cruise guy. I'm not a mexico guy. I I have heard horror stories. I've heard and I and nothing against mexico, beautiful country, beautiful. I've heard people come back, said man, I got the. Uh, I had to sit in a toilet for a long time after going to Mexico. Or my friends and I were going to go surfing in Mexico. I swear I heard this story from someone I used to know, tony, we were in a rented van or whatever, and we're going to surf or snorkel or whatever, get pulled over by the police, search the entire van, tore it all apart, while one of the officers so-called officers holding air quotes held a gun to his head so they could search and then demanded money. Well, jefe's been trying to get me to go to Mexico lately and again I'm saying no, this out.

Speaker 1:

Today the State Department updates Mexico travel advisory for Americans. The US State Department, as of this past week, are urging American travelers, to quote exercise increased caution when visiting Mexico. They issued a level two designation due to terrorism, crime and kidnapping. Welcome, welcome, thank you, with a travel advisory summer to reflect the risks many violent crimes, say, take place in mexico. They include homicide, kidnapping, carjacking and robbery. Don't we have music for that? What happened to our kidnapping, robbery and carjacking music? Oh, there we go. Sorry makes it seem I don't know somewhat. Many violent crimes take place in Mexico. They include homicide, kidnapping, carjacking and robbery. The updated summary states there's a risk of terrorist violence, including terrorist attacks and other activities in Mexico. Part of that fun activity, all the fun activities in Mexico, that's right.

Speaker 1:

Under the update, the US is advising travelers to cooperate if stopped at a road checkpoint and risk being hurt or killed if you try to flee, if you try to push back or ignore the instructions. They should also avoid traveling after dark alone, especially in remote areas. Honey, yes, dear, I think I'm going to take a walk in the middle of nowhere tonight in Mexico. That's good honey. They're warning if travelers do get in trouble. Us government assistance and emergency services. Well, they're limited in many parts of remote Mexico, especially rural, high-risk areas that are remote, of course, a popular vacation spot for Americans. It has seen a string of warnings by the US government. This year, in March, the US Embassy in Mexico posted a warning for those visiting spring break hotspots, including Cancun, puerto Penasco. Most recently, in June, it cautioned travelers of kidnappings tied to dating apps. So, anyhow, travel to Mexico at your own risk.

Speaker 1:

Meanwhile, interesting story here, a retired Ford worker's wallet has been returned after 11 years stuck in an engine. Wow, richard Guilford remembers Christmas 2014 like it was yesterday, because that's when the now retired Ford Motor Company assembly plant worker lost his wallet on the job and grew to accept that he would never see it again. And he didn't Until now. Guilford, 56 years old, lives in Petersburg, michigan, retired from Ford in January of 2024. However, in 2014, he was repairing the electrical systems of vehicles at Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne when, unbeknownst to him, his wallet slipped out of his shirt pocket and landed amid the transmission system of a red 2015 Ford Edge SUV amid the transmission system of a red 2015 Ford Edge SUV. You know how that panic ensues when you can't find your wallet. You're tearing your car apart. You know how that goes. We've all been there. So just how the wallet disappeared in the first place is quite a tale, they say.

Speaker 1:

Guilford said he worked 35 years for Ford in various plants. His expertise centered on electrical. In 2014, his job was to make heavy electric repairs in the garage area at Michigan Assembly in Wayne. So that means the cars came off the assembly line. If there was a minced wire in the floor, harness came to him for repair, he says. If the lights didn't work or whatever, it came to me. At that time, ford assembled the Focus and the C-Max cars at this particular assembly. Today, according to Ford, the plant employs close to 6,000 people, builds the Ford Ranger pickup and the Ford Bronco SUV. But Guilford said that his team excelled at its job. So when some of the Ford's other plants in North America got behind on repairs of these particular vehicles they built, ford would then sometimes send them to Michigan Assembly for the fix. The week before Christmas 2014, he said, about 2,500 vehicles arrived from other factories that needed this electrical work.

Speaker 1:

So one day he does something unusual puts his wallet in his shirt pocket because his pants did not have pockets. Well, that proved to be a mistake. His anxiety escalated. I can imagine, like I say, when you lose a wallet, you freak out Every minute. You couldn't find it. You're like, panicking. The wallet contained just $15 cash but, of course, your driver's license. You know your Ford employee ID that was in there. You know a couple hundred bucks in gift cards, whatever, but you just it doesn't matter, it's your wallet. You're panicking. Those gift cards, by the way, were for his kids for Christmas, so they looked through a vehicle. Those gift cards, by the way, were for his kids for Christmas, so they looked through a vehicle. The first vehicle they looked through in their search 2015 Edge. They recalled they were looking through trying to find the wallet, tried forever, looking forever, thought he lost it under the carpet of the car because you know he pulls up the carpet to work on the main wiring harness. But nothing. They do say, by the way, a Ford spokesman, jessica Enoch, says it is exceedingly rare for any plant workers to lose a personal item in a vehicle that they're working on, and she says that there are no policies to secure personal items or prevent them from happening. So, anyhow, we move forward in the story.

Speaker 1:

The airbox contains the vehicle's air filter. It's the front part of the engine compartment. It was on the transmission, they say, possibly held in place by the air box when the 2015 Edge left Michigan Assembly in 2014. Car was shipped to Arizona. Person that bought it now lives in Minnesota.

Speaker 1:

In late June, while replacing the SUV's cooling fans, they discover the car's secret Pulls out the air box. He'd done this several times before in the car. Only this time it wouldn't slide back into place. So he looks closer to investigate, sees the wallet sitting on top of the transmission. Says I was surprised. You know, you find stuff all the time, but you look through it it and he finds this motor Ford Motor Company badge. Says I'm going to try to find this guy to see if I can get it back to him. Takes a, you know. Takes a look on social media. So they find Guilford who offers him. He says hey, keep what was ever inside the wallet, money-wise. But the guy didn't want it. He says Guilford said everything in the wallet's in pretty good shape. Considering the journey that he endured, you can imagine. And Guilford said that Cabela's, who these gift cards were for this Cabela's assured him that they would issue him new gift cards. So that's a nice story that had a nice little end to it.

Speaker 1:

Tonight on my radio show we're going to be talking about the rebranding of MSNBC, literally dropping MSNBC and now becoming MSNow. So we'll talk about that on my show tonight. I pulled out a rare record from my 45 collection today and this is a really cool one for Pats Peeps 317. I can assure you I'm going to pull it out of the sleeve here. I know this has never been played ever. Wow, that's on Electra White For radio station use. Only that's what it says. Okay, so this is a record. Wow, this is a very interesting record, I gotta say so.

Speaker 1:

This record came out in 1971 by an american rock band, march 71, the first single from this very popular album, which is their final album with this very popular singer, and it became one of the highest charting hits for this band, peaked at number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. Reach number three in Canada. A session musician, jerry Sheff, plays bass on this song. Cashbox described the song as being a precision combination of FM and top 40 potentials. This is obviously a very popular song. It is the Doors' Love Her Madly. Here you go.

Speaker 3:

Here you say Don't you love her badly, want to be her daddy? Don't you love her face? Don't you love her as she's walking out the door Like she did 1,000 times before? Don't you love her ways? Tell me what you say. Don't you love her as she's walking out the door? All your love, all your love, all your love, all your love, all your love is wrong To sing a lonely song of a deep blue dream.

Speaker 1:

Seven horses seem to be on the moon. Now, this song does have a B-side to it, and it's an interesting B-side. The B-side of this song is the only studio recording released by the Doors during Jim Morrison's tenure with the group to feature a lead vocal by Ray Manzarek. Also, it is only one of three non-album B-sides by the Doors, the other two being who Scared you, the B-side of Wishful Sinful and the relatively rare post-Morrison track Tree Trunk, which is a B-side of Get Up and Dance. This song is called you Need Meat, Don't Go no Further. That's right, With Ray Manzarek on vocals. You Need Meat, Don't Go no Further. The B-side of Lover Madly Pat's Peeps 317. You need meat Go to the market.

Speaker 2:

You need bread? Try the bakery. You need lovin'. Look here, baby, I got just what you need. I gotta love somebody. I gotta love somebody.

Speaker 3:

I gotta love somebody, somebody gonna love me. You need money Go to the bank, deal. You need honey Look to the bees.

Speaker 1:

You need lovin'. Well, if there was ever a B-side in my opinion, this is a B-side. I got just what you need. I wanna love somebody. Opinion this is a B-side. I got just what you need. I want to love somebody I gotta love somebody.

Speaker 3:

I gotta love somebody, somebody gonna love?

Speaker 1:
