Ep. 347 Today's Peep Tests the Boundaries of Free Speech- With Good Intentions I Walk Among the "Tolerant" before it goes OFF THE RAILS in front of the Auburn Police Station and City Hall
Welcome to the Pat's Peeps Podcast. Number three hundred and forty-seven. Happy Friday. Wow. And what a Friday. Freaky Friday it's been. It's 101025. I look out the studio windows today into the beautiful foothills of Northern California. And it's uh it's a nice day. It is so perfect. Temperatures maybe 71 degrees. The sun is out gorgeous. Um I'm gonna get to I'm gonna get right to it today. I'm gonna tell you what happened. By the way, I'm Pat Walsh. I'm the host of the Pat Walsh show in KFK. I heard 7 to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday, 93.1 FM, 15.30 a.m. and happy to say, hey, number one rated show in town. Thank you very much. Where's my button? I gotta every once in a while I have to take advantage of this button. Thank you. I mean, it just happened, so I'm still gonna celebrate it a little bit. Not to mention, next Tuesday is the 12th year of our show. Thank you. So today, though, on a Friday, here's what I got for you. So I'm just gonna get right to it. This is gonna be a shorter podcast today, essentially, because I'm gonna play something for you, but my phone's about to run out of juice. I don't even know if it'll make it through this six and a half minute video. So, long story short, a friend of mine, Jody, says, Hey, you want to go to the taco tree and we'll go have a couple of tacos for lunch. I'm coming back from Tahoe. I say, Yeah, sure, what the heck? Let's go. So we go to the taco tree in beautiful downtown Auburn. On the way to uh um on the way over there, uh, we see some protesters on the side of the road. And I said, Well, hey, look at this. They're protesting ice, you know, they're protesting the president, you know, and they've got all their signs. I said, Well, let's go talk to them. Let's really be sweet and kind. I want to go be very nice and sweet to them, and I was. And you know, and and I I talked extensively to them, had these cordial conversations about, you know, our first amendment rights, freedom of expression. That was the whole thing part of my video, and I knew that if I expressed my my my personal beliefs, then they probably wouldn't go for it. But it took a nasty turn. It took a nasty turn for no reason. So I'm out there and it wasn't long after these cordial conversations, at least I thought they were, I had a smile on my face the whole time I was being very nice, to where I was suddenly surrounded with people smacking me in the face with their signs. One of the ladies, right after I turned my phone off, poked me in the mouth with her sign, almost knocked the teeth out that I just had put in this morning. I had I had a couple of teeth that had broken off. I've been waiting for months to get them put in, put in this morning. Thank you, Dr. Judd. She hits me in the mouth, almost knocks my teeth out. And then the the other people with their signs came up right around surround me, and I was getting hit on the side of the side of the head, the front of the head. And afterwards, guess what happened? They call the police. The police show up and they go, hey, we want to press charges. They come over to me. This is a true story, just happened. The one police officer goes to the other side of the road. This is right in front of the police station and city hall in Auburn. He goes over and he talks to them, unbeknownst to me. I didn't really see him initially. The other officer who pulled up behind me is gonna leave. I'm like, what the heck? So I get out, I have this conversation with him, and he goes, Do you have the? I go, I've got the video. And he goes, Can I see the video? So I play the video for him, and he's like, Wow, okay. All right, and he sees that I'm being very cordial. Now, pretty soon the other officer comes over and I can hear them talk. And he's like, Hey, I was just talking to the guy and he showed me a video, and they were right up in his face, and they were hitting him in the face with a sign. You can see it. And he's being very nice. I can hear the conversation. And the other officer goes, Yeah, they wanted to show me their video too. They were gonna somehow, they were gonna press charges. I'm like, press charges. Oh what? For for saying, God bless our president? Wow. And he goes, So I look at their video. This is the officer who tells the other officer, I look at their video, I hand it back to him, and I look at him and I go, Hey, the next time you say you want to press charges on someone, and then and then you show the the police a video, you better take a look at the video yourself first. And I know you didn't do that, but clearly they're hitting him in the face and the teeth with their signs. And so they turn around to me and they go, Mr. Walter, is there anything else you have? Any questions for us? I said, no. And they gently ask me, hey, you know, I know we agree. Uh we we understand you. Wink wink. But you know, I I said, no, I got my point across. I listen, I'm 100% compliant with police. I'm not here to cause any trouble, so I'm gonna play it for you. This is how it went. This is unbelievable. Okay? Here we go. How are you today?
SPEAKER_02:We're good. How about you?
SPEAKER_01:Oh Jane Goodall.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, yeah, she had a God bless her good life. God bless her, Jane Goodall. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:Wow. Jane Goodall. I just talked about her on my radio show the other night.
SPEAKER_00:What radio show is that?
SPEAKER_01:The Pat Wall show on KFPK.
SPEAKER_00:Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_01:Good for you that you bring out Jane Goodall. That is what a what a what an unbelievable human being, and everything she's done with the chimpanzees and all of that.
SPEAKER_00:She uh only wanted it aired after she died. And it's very interviewing them, and she speaks all by herself.
SPEAKER_01:Well, I love it. And and and can I just tell you one other thing? I think, and I love, you know, you're out here, everyone expressing their First Amendment rights. I love that it's not even political. It's just Jane Goodall. It's just Jane Goodall. Rest in peace. But yeah, we feel that climate change is Yeah, but Jane Goodall is, you know. Yeah, just based on that. I love that.
SPEAKER_00:She she said some pretty um some strong things against Trump.
SPEAKER_01:And and you know what? And guess what? Because she's there I think it's you know what, and that's what I love about America is our First Amendment rights, the freedom to our own thoughts and opinions on all of that. Jane Goodall and anyone else, right? These people here too, right? We all have our freedom of speech, and I love that. I love the fact we can do that. Express ourselves, you know, without concern about that. So I love your sign.
SPEAKER_02:Okay, well, thank you very much.
SPEAKER_01:I'm Pat. Pleasure to meet you. Shannon, nice to meet you. You have a lovely day out here, okay?
SPEAKER_00:It's a beautiful day.

Nice to meet you. I do a radio show on KFPK radio. You may or may not like KFPK. I don't know what your you know, your political thoughts are or anything. This is again, this is fossil fuels, which is so this is all about environmental causes.
SPEAKER_02:This is talking about climate change.
SPEAKER_01:I guess it's not all about environmental. You got the guy on the end saying ice are thugs, so that's a little different than environmental. But again, he's entitled to his opinion, right? Absolutely right. Gentlemen, it's great to talk to you. Nice to see you have a great day, alright? Let's see what else is out there. Stop women's vote. Say the women's vote. Stop GLP 2, it is up to you. How are you doing today?
SPEAKER_00:That's awesome. How are you?
SPEAKER_01:What's happening with the women's vote?
SPEAKER_02:Stop saying that. I did not take pictures.
SPEAKER_01:I can take pictures. I don't want to take pictures. But I can. I mean, I'm I'm allowed to, right?
SPEAKER_02:I'm but you don't want your camera to face right.
SPEAKER_01:What's that?
SPEAKER_02:I'll talk to you if not. I don't want my picture.
SPEAKER_01:Oh well, I'm I'm gonna be out here taking pictures.
SPEAKER_02:Oh, look at you! That was awesome! I love that! No, I need to get my makeup. What are you doing? Oh, you look great. You honestly don't know what the say back is.
SPEAKER_01:Huh? You don't know what the say back is. No, I was asking you about your thoughts on it. Well, I'm I'm very well informed, believe me. I am. I know you don't want your pictures showing. But I'm asking, I mean, so women aren't going to be allowed to vote?
SPEAKER_02:So you think that women women will stop.
SPEAKER_01:Women won't have the right to vote? You really believe that? I wasn't interrupting you. You're being rude for no reason. I'm being very nice to you. But you directed that to me, not to her. I just think I'm I guess because you guys think alike or something. So I oh, I have to move on. So let me get this straight. It's okay to express your opinion, but not me, right? Is that true? Well, you know, we're gonna hear it. God, God bless President Trump, everyone.
SPEAKER_00:Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_01:God bless our president!
SPEAKER_02:Fuck him.
SPEAKER_01:God bless I'm sorry, what was that?
SPEAKER_02:I said that was fuck off, motherfucker.
SPEAKER_01:Oh, are you the tolerant ones? Tolerant party! God bless our president! God bless Trump! God bless Trump! God bless our president! God bless our president Trump! See? First Amendment right, right? That's all right.
SPEAKER_02:Did you take your medicine today?
SPEAKER_01:Oh, my medicine?
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, I think.
SPEAKER_01:Oh, so you're resisting. I need to take my medicine. God bless our president, everyone!
SPEAKER_02:There is no bottom.
SPEAKER_01:See, this is how far your First Amendment rights go. This is how far they go. Look at these people. See, I was being so nice. God bless our president. See how they're touching me? Never touched them. Never touched them. This is an example. This is why I wanted you to see this today. Look at this. It's okay for First Amendment rights, but not if you say God bless Trump!
SPEAKER_02:God bless our president! President Trump, baby! Thank you, ladies and gentlemen. Thank you so much. Isn't this fun? Isn't that fun? Oh, isn't that fun? Save our climate. Keep singing. Save our climate. Save our climate. Come on now. One more time. Oh, climate. 99 bottles of beer on the wall. 99 bottles of beer. You take one down, you pass it around. 99 bottles of beer on the wall.
SPEAKER_00:Ha ha beer.
SPEAKER_01:I'm gonna consider this a mini pod. Because that's all I have to say today. You can see this video on my Facebook page. Pat Walls.
SPEAKER_00:You don't never be helped. Wow. All you got to do now.
SPEAKER_01:As soon as I turned my camera off, they surrounded me. Whatever you do. Hit me in the face with her signs. Uh let's drive back. Tolerant left now, yeah. Uh notice as soon as I said God bless America, they threw the F bombs at me. The one lady yells, There is no God, you A-Hole, but she'd say A-hole. All right now. God, I love America. God bless America. When you do it, God bless you, God bless our president.
SPEAKER_00:Do it when you do it.
SPEAKER_01:What you look see on the radio.
SPEAKER_00:Express yourself. Express yourself.
