Ep. 349 Today's Peep Celebrates a Dozen Years of Late-Night Radio, Our Band "F Marry Kill" Plays my 5th Anniversary Party (7 years ago), Much Gratitude, Never Declaw Your Cat and Stay for the Angry Cat Videos
A rainy Northern California afternoon set the tone for a milestone we’ve been building toward one night at a time: twelve years on the air. We pause to celebrate the people who made it possible—listeners who stuck with us, Kendall’s steady hand in the early years, and the unforgettable punch of Mark the Voice Guy’s liners that gave the show its swagger between breaks. We revisit the fifth-anniversary party at Hillenbrand Brewery, the band that pulled our community into one room, and the thread of support from voices like Deb who pushed us from guest host to a nightly fixture.
From memories to momentum, we take a firm, heartfelt stand on a topic with real stakes: California’s ban on cat declawing. We break down what the law actually stops—cosmetic amputations that harm balance and behavior—and why humane alternatives matter. If you share your home with a cat, you’ll find practical advice: scratcher placement that works, nail-trim basics without the drama, and when to consider soft caps. And yes, we laugh (and wince) through a few infamous cat chaos clips that prove respect beats shortcuts every time.
Twelve years later, the mission is unchanged: keep late-night radio human, local, and honest. Thank you for riding along through the rain, the jokes, the music, and the moments that tie us together. Join us for the anniversary broadcast tonight, tell a friend, and if this show has kept you company, tap follow, share the episode, and leave a quick review—what memory stands out most to you?
Welcome friends to a special edition. I guess I might say it's a special edition, but for me it is anyhow. The Pat's Peeps Podcast 349 on this Tuesday. Tuesday, the 14th day of October, 2025. And today, as I look out my studio window into the beautiful and turning green foothills of Northern California. It looks so nice out. It's raining. Come on now. I love it. It's raining. I love the change of season. Still not cool enough for me to really start a fire in my nice wood stove. But you know what? Pretty soon I'll be doing that. Wherever you are listening, I thank you very, very much from the bottom of my little old heart. I mean that. Um today's a special day, like I said, because today, for those of you who don't know, and I I always say it, so I'm sure many of you do or listen to my podcast, but I'm also the host of the Pat Wall Show on KFPK Radio in Sacramento, 93.1 FM, 1530 a.m. I know I talked about it the last couple of podcasts. I'm not going to go into uh into uh some of the things I've already talked about, but I just but today's the day where I get to celebrate 12 years. Where's my button at here? 12. Here we go. I never get to use my button. Yeah, thank you. I get to use it once in a while. 12 years of doing this radio show at night. And that is saying something in modern radio. Again, I'm not sitting here trying to brag about it, but it's just first of all, it is a dream come true that I'm doing it. And and it just doesn't happen that often in radio. Uh, but anyhow, and to the all of you, I I made a little post on my Facebook page today mentioning this, and you guys are so nice. It's truly a joy and such a blessing to be doing this for 12 years. You know, again, I figured let me try it a little different, and if it works great, if not, oh well, at least I gave it a shot. But from people who helped me to um sort of learn how to do talk radio, to people that reached out to me the very first time they heard me and said, hey, you should have a talk show. Um just all so many people that have reached out. Thank you. It means a lot. And you know what I do notice within that is that a lot of people are listening to this podcast now. You're so kind to say, hey, you know what? They say something nice about the show, but then they listen to my podcast. You're listening. So, man, the more we can do this, I mean, it's just gonna get better and better. I still want to do this for several more years before I finally retire, I guess. I pray that I can do that. So thank you. And thank you to everyone who has been a part of my radio show over the years. Kendall was a part of my radio show for many years. I miss Kendall. Many of us miss Kendall. She's all doing other things now, and we sure do appreciate her and miss her so much. I mean, she uh the first several years of my show was a huge part of that. Also a huge part of the show for many years. Kendall brought a lot of uh talent to the table and various things that she did. She was a great monitor producer, and we had Mark the voice guy, who used to do these liners, so Kendall would play the music, the bumper music coming back from break, and then Mark the Voice Guy would have these incredible liners over the show. Show promo liners.
SPEAKER_08:For instance, if we can go back and visitically American, Pat Walsh on News Radio, KFBK. Ha ha. I like that. Unapologetically American. Pat Walsh on News Radio, KFBK.
SPEAKER_07:I miss them so much. So Kendall would have that music jam, and then Mark would create these liners. He had hundreds of them. I loved it. Here we go.
SPEAKER_08:More Mark the Boy Sky. He wanted to be extra scary this Halloween, so his cost himself a phone battery at 2%. Pat Walsh on News Radio KFBK. Uh now, a man who's frustrated because he can't remember the melody to the Pledge of Allegiance. Get in the habit. Pat Walsh on News Radio KFBK. These were good years. All of them have been. He lost 10 pounds according to his Richter scale. Pat Walsh on News Radio, KFBK.
SPEAKER_07:You know, we and the show is still good. We just evolved. We go in a, you know, we lost Mark, of course. Kendall went on to other things.
SPEAKER_08:She moved and This portion of the Pat Walsh show is being brought to you by the Three Stooges Zen Meditation Center. Made in America. Pat Walsh on News Radio KF Show. Come on now, Pat BK. That's right, buddy. Mm-hmm. This portion of the Pat Wall Show is brought to you by Grizzle. It's not just on the Thanksgiving plate this year. Pat Walls on News Radio KFBK.
SPEAKER_07:So many other people to mention. Deb, who is, I consider, the original fan of uh rooting for me to get a show when I used to fill in for Armstrong and Getty on her sister station. A lot of people know me. I got some messages. A lot of people know me from the cheap and crappy gift exchange on the Armstrong and Getty show every year for Christmas. So thank you for that. Then they followed me over, became fans of my show. When I used to fill in, I was the only fill-in ever for Armstrong and Getty, as far as I know. And I did numerous shows, did it my way, and Deb would message me and she'd say, Pat, you know, I she'd say, I love Armstrong and Getty. I love them, listen to them all the time. But you need your own show because you have your own thing going on. And she listens to my show every night. Connects with me every night. Um lots of great feedback during the show. And Deb, I greatly appreciate you from the bottom of a little bit.
SPEAKER_08:Tougher than a ribeye steak from the dollar store. Pat Wals on News Radio KFBK.
SPEAKER_07:You know, of course, you go down the line, you don't want to forget people, and I'm not, you know, there's a so many people I can say thank you to for all of the special things. All of you listeners, every one of you, those of you who've done wonderful and special things personally for me, just out of the kindness of your heart, the comments, the fact that you tune in, the fact that you're listening here. Thank you, thank you, thank you. You know, I have to mention Darlene with a Y, who is the you hear about her all the time on my podcast and on my show. She called in last night, she went to Roseville News Madison coin shop, walked out with three grand selling her gold, but she's kind of become the president of the Pat Walsh show fan club, and more importantly, one of the best friends a person could ever have.
SPEAKER_08:I'll tell you that. This portion of the Pat Walsh show is brought to you by High Protein Twinkies, the tofu-filled sponge cake that tastes so awful, it's got to be good for you. Pat Walsh on News Radio KFBK.
SPEAKER_07:Oh my goodness. Yeah, I just missed that so much, buddy. Mark the voice guy.
SPEAKER_03:Tonight the radio's alive, feel the buzz in the air. Bad watch takes the stage with a vibe that's so rare. From seven to ten, he's got stories to share. On KFBK, we're tuned in, it's the basic okay. It's off playing, we're lost in the plot. Band joke strumm it's softly as it carries up to rooted, it feels like new Too. With call the game, we laugh the undertack road, let those guys. Don't you wave up goodbyes, listen to those hides?
SPEAKER_07:Pats peeps, 349. Tuesday. You know, speaking of music there, I want to say thank you to Chanzilla. What a great name. We should name our band Chanzilla. That's actually a pretty good name. Anyhow, Chanzilla. Great friend. Haven't seen you for a while, buddy. Would love to catch up with you. And an incredible photographer. And since it is our 12th anniversary of the show today, you know, I want to remind some of you, and maybe you didn't know this to begin with, but we did a fifth anniversary. I talked about Patrick Hillenbrand on my podcast yesterday. I had a great weekend. I went out to his brewery. Well, on our fifth anniversary, we had a party out at Hill and Brand Brewery. And my band out there, we played. And a bunch of people showed up. So we're talking seven anniversaries ago. For those of you who don't remember my band, um, we really had a great band. I thought we had a really fun band. So I'm on lead vocal, Sean Moody, who does the theme for my my pod, my Pat's peeps. He does the does this. Johnny quality. That's Sean Moody was our guitarist. Sean Naven on bass, badass bass. Speaking of a badass Johnny Q, John Caxter, Kissada on drums. So I'm gonna play a little bit of this for you. This was my band, our band, F Mary Kill, back in 2005. Chenzilla, thank you, brother. Thank you so much. You know, last night on the Pat Wall show, one of the things we were talking about was that California, good for them in this respect, anyhow. They don't pass a lot of great legislation as far as I'm concerned. But in this case, you know, they banned cat declawing. And we talked about it last night. Man, that is so cruel. How do you c how do you do that to your cat, man? How do you declaw your cat? You don't do that. That's torture. But now it's illegal to do that in California. The state officially outlawed the practice banning the performance of tendinectomy. It's a type of claw removal on a feline. And they ban it for any other reason other than a therapeutic or medically necessary, or or unless it's medically necessary, for whatever that reason might be. Animal welfare advocates consider the measure historic wins. And obviously it is because in for the cat for the kitty cat. Because decline a cat, see, involves cutting and amputating the first joint of a cat's paw.
SPEAKER_03:Ah.
SPEAKER_07:Essentially removing the toe. No, stop it already. So and you know why people do it? I'm thinking, why would you do it? Because cats, they need to defend themselves from other critters that they may encounter, right? They need they need to be able to defend themselves. So quit doing that. If you are gonna buy a cat, I'm speaking on behalf of cats today. I don't even own one. I used to, and I miss ginger so much. I just don't have enough time right now to dedicate to a cat. I don't want it or a dog, and I don't want them to be lonely, but I'm gonna have one at some point very soon. But you know, they need to be able to defend themselves. You don't want to hurt the the cat. You want to be sweet to your cat. Which made me think of some videos. I'm not a cat video guy. I don't sit around and watch cat videos, but on a whole other note, you know, people don't they don't want their cats to have claws because you know why? Because it scratches up their furniture. Are you kidding me? Or maybe they might scratch them. It's a cat. As a caller said last night, she seemed to be very knowledgeable when it comes to felines. She said you need to get one of them scratch posts, absolutely necessary. So if you don't want to do that and you don't want to tear a cat tearing up your furniture or biting or scratching you, then I highly recommend against getting a cat. Please. That's new. The legislation is new. Good for you. You know, someone called me last night and they said they said, Well, what you do, Patty, you you squeeze a little paw, right? You squeeze it gently. And she was so nice, she and caring about cats. You squeeze that little paw and the little can the little claws come out, you know, they'll expose themselves. And then when you do that, you clip it just right with your fingernail clippers. Look for the black vein underneath with already that already makes me cringe because I don't want the cat to move, and then I clip it too deep, and then the cat's in agony. You know what I mean? It's very delicate. But she described it very calmly, and that's what you do, it's very easy, she said. And and I pr I do appreciate that. However, as I told her, I cannot imagine how your cat is gonna sit there while you try to manicure it. I think as soon as you try to squeeze a little paw to get the little the to expose the nails, the cat's gonna go berserk. No matter how friendly your cat is. Now, maybe I'm wrong. Maybe my cat wouldn't have. Maybe I have to ask Kitty O'Neill, she's a cat owner, she loves cats. But man, I'm telling you. They can be vicious. And you see these TV interviews where the cats go crazy. Like, here, I think this is from the here's one from the this is Pinky the Cat on Pat's Peeps 349, and it's a nice video they're trying to make from the Placer County Animal Shelter. Pinky. Hi, this is Pinky. Hold on now, hold up.
SPEAKER_09:Go. Uh this is Pinky. He's a male, right? Cat. Domestic short here. He's available for adoption. He's pet of the week. Placer County Animal Shelter. He's a very loving cat. Pinky. Pinky. Pinky. Whoa. Whoa, whoa, whoa. Oh no. Pinky. Settle down, bud. Cat is going berserk. Somebody gotta catch me.
SPEAKER_07:Oh my god, you hear that you hear that sound. You know that is evil sounding, man. And they're trying to catch it in a box. I hear that sound, I'm running. Now the cat is on the leash. The cat's going for berserk and it's gonna wrap it around the the the guy's leg. He's got jeans on him.
SPEAKER_02:Oh god.
SPEAKER_09:You got them back? Ouch.
SPEAKER_04:Oh get orange straight cat sitting on the face.
SPEAKER_07:Patch Beams 349. Hey, happy Tuesday.
SPEAKER_06:Ain't got enough dough to pay the rent.
SPEAKER_07:Do not declaw your cat. Here's a guy, he's trying to show off a cat too on TV, and it just goes awry.
SPEAKER_03:I'm sorry. Bad cat. Hi. Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_02:I'm Paul. Hello, Paul. He is Yojin. Hello, George. What is it, Jin? And welcome to a one-minute English live stream. Awesome. Joshin's looking a little bit aggressive right now, so I don't want to upset him. But really, he's very excited. And now he's looking at me extremely aggressively. And I'm a little bit scared. But I'm going to continue anyway and hope that he doesn't attack me. Um good God, what are you doing? Um, Joshin, we're really gonna have to start. I'm gonna Yeah, what are you doing? Yoshin, can you maybe go somewhere else for a little bit? We're just gonna turn this round a bit because he's looking at me very aggressively. So I'll sit. Jesus Christ! Oh my god! Okay, so that happened.
SPEAKER_06:Um He's circling around my ankle. He's circling around my ankle. He needs some pen and loving old high.
SPEAKER_07:I don't know if I would manicure my cat snails. I don't know. Here's a vet trying to he's trying to help the cat, or she is that they're that psycho cat. That's a she's so you got the nurse with gloves on, cat's under the towel, and then you got the male vet, oh lord.
SPEAKER_10:Oh, no, no, no. Really? Why? Why be like that?
SPEAKER_09:Oh god.
SPEAKER_10:I've had that wrath before. It's been really good.
SPEAKER_07:No thanks. No. If you ain't ready for this again, don't I hate to keep saying the same video? Don't get a cat if you're not ready for this. Because you don't want to declaw them. That cat is angry.
SPEAKER_10:Very early.
SPEAKER_09:Oh my god, sounds like a lion.
SPEAKER_07:You know what? You gotta have a lot of nerve to be able to ha handle a cat like that without sedating it.
SPEAKER_08:I mean it sounds like a cougar. It's just a sound scatter. Yeah, they're afraid. They don't even want to go near it. I don't blame them. Oh no.
SPEAKER_07:Holy cow is right. Woof. I'm not quite ready for that. But what I am ready for is my 12th anniversary show tonight. I hope you can tune in. Paul Barker used to say what? Make sure to s spade your pets or whatever. Dogs and cats. Don't declaw your cat. Thank you for listening, Pat's Peeps 349. Wishing you a beautiful Tuesday afternoon. I'm enjoying the rain. I hope you are too. Drive carefully out there, alright?
unknown:Waiting a cry.
SPEAKER_07:Thanks for listening. We'll see you on the radio.
SPEAKER_06:Don't bother using for explanation. She'll just tell you that she came in the ear of the cat.
