Well, welcome back. Welcome back. It's the Patch Peeps Podcast. What do we 360? After a four-parter at 359. I've never done that before. Hello, it's Patrick. Good to be in your headphones again. Thank you for listening. On this Tuesday, November 11th, 2025. It's Veterans Day. Hello to all the veterans who are listening, and God bless our veterans. Thank you. It's good to be back here in America. Very proud of our country. And on this Tuesday, it's a good the clouds have rolled in. It's gorgeous outside, but the clouds have moved in, so it's a little cooler today. I had the opportunity to go out and mow my lawn before the rain comes in. I don't know if that's gonna win, if if and when that's gonna happen, but it seemed like a nice day to do that. It's also fire season. Like you can go burn stuff up here in the foothills. Oh my hills! I love doing that. Especially like in November and in December, you know, around Thanksgiving time, there's something I absolutely love. I usually hate raking, I always really hate raking up the all the pine needles, but I love having a bonfire in the fall. In the winter around Thanksgiving, you have a few days off, which I did just enjoy some time off, but I love that time of year. And I like to go out there and I like to listen to old classic radio shows and sit around the bond the fire and just kind of you know burn the leaves and the the with all the stuff that you know the wood and all that stuff that you need to get rid of on when you have property. So as many of you know, I mean I live in the mystery hut up here in the foothills, but uh I just come back from a blessed vacation, incredible vacation with a great group of Pat's peeps group. Thank you to everyone who traveled with us on this incredible journey from Sicily to the mainland of Italy, where we spent a couple of weeks. Uh and then Ryan Harris and I, who went from Naples, we flew from Naples to England, talked all about it on my radio show, by the way. My name is Pat Walsh. I'm the host of the Pat Walsh show, as heard on KFPK Radio in Sacramento, 93.1 FM, 1530 a.m., streaming live everywhere on your free iHeart app, all your streaming platforms. So it was good to get back on the air last night. We kind of we talked all about our ventures to England and our Beatles tours and you know, everything that we saw in Italy, but a fine group of people to travel with. You know, now it appears we're gonna be going to Portugal in Spain sometime, and I don't know if it's gonna be in the spring or the fall. I I don't really know, but that's coming up. We'll tell you all about that when we get to that point. Also, hey, as I start the show off tonight, please, oh my gosh, free food for you. I'm gonna keep telling you about this. I would just love it if, you know, if you again, if you guys would take advantage of this, my gosh, I mean, it's absolutely free food, right? And it's supporting local business and it's helping mob business, man. I really need for for you know folks to go check out the Rock and Soul Diner, R O C and then Soul S O L free, two for one dinner. Not breakfast, not lunch, we're talking dinner. We're pushing dinner. So let's say you're going to Sacramento, they're right there at what, 10th and R, I think it is on R Street. Matt is the owner. Please, heck, you know, like I like I always mention on Friday and Saturdays you got the prime rib two for one. You all you do is say Pat's Peeps. There's nothing else you have to do. But you get anything on the menu for dinner. So please check out Rock and Soul Diner. And thanks to the Rock and Soul Diner for being a Pat's Peeps business and to all of our businesses. Uh-d this So take advantage of that. You know, when when I was over uh when we were in on our trip, one of the great things is that uh there was no I never turned a TV on. I mentioned that on my show last night. So I was very far away from the stress of politics and all of that. It was so wonderful to not have to be uh to not have to think about that. No, none of that kind of stress. Now, of course, tonight on the show we'll have Gary Dietrich on to start the show, which will be politics, but you know, at some point I guess you can't just ignore it, but I certainly did on my trip, and man, it felt so good. And as far as driving, you know, I don't I'm I'm not trying to repeat everything I said on my show last night, but again, I take something away from all of these trips. And when it comes to Italy, they I mean, chaotic traffic. You got little clown cars, they zip and do to get the mopeds and there's all going big buses. You got people on motorized scooters, it's unbelievable. And they're all on the sharing a road together, but yet they're they somehow make it work. Like just do what you do, and then everyone just kind of goes, okay, no problem. And no one's flipping anyone off or anything like that. So I really take that element with me back here into the state. So I'm so such a calm driver now, and it's been that way for a number of years. I noticed that years ago. So I'm just so blessed to be able to take some of these trips, and hopefully, you know, you maybe you'll have an opportunity to do that with us. As I did mention here today, it is well, before I get to that, you know, I speaking of the trip coming back, I thought, you know, Heathrow Airport in London, I just thought, oh my God, Heathrow, you've got to be kidding me. I've never been there, but it just sounds like the biggest. I'm not a big airport person, you know, they stress me out. The weird lighting. Some of the, you know, the hallways and the the chaos. I just not a big fan. However, I've done it many, many times. It's uh it's you gotta you have to do it. So I'm thinking Heathrow, oh no, on the way home. Can I just tell you? That was like the easiest experience that I've had flying. It's super easy. Sacramento, I I applaud you, the Sacramento International Airport. Very nice place to fly in and out of. The same thing. Now, I'm sure that Heathrow gets overrun with people all the time, like super busy. But for whatever reason, I we Ryan, me and Ryan coming home, we did not hit that. It was so smooth. Ryan is a good traveler, he's got it all down. I just follow like he, like he's about like a like a baby duck. I'm just following along, man. Whatever Ryan, he's got it all planned, so I trusted him. But and and everyone at Heathrow was very nice. So a shout out to Heathrow, man. But you know, nearly 75 flights were canceled at SAC International because of this shutdown, as of yesterday. So we got lucky. We had very we didn't even really have any delays. We flew from Heathrow to Denver, the way Ryan had it set up, where we both had aisle seats. I like the aisle seat. And so it made so because we'd gone from Naples, we'd gone from Italy to l to uh England you know, be a few days before we came back to America, that cut like almost three hours off of the flight, so that made a difference. So we we cut off one leg of the flight, and then that made that flight shorter. And we flew all the way to Denver where we only had 90 minutes before the next flight, so it was absolutely perfect. Matter of fact, this is the even though I do I have a little bit of jet lag, it's not like I'm extraordinarily tired like I have been on some of the other trips. Plus, I'm kind of getting used to how things roll. I watch The Godfather on the way back, I and I go to sleep. I just kind of, you know, I just I'm getting more used to it. But SAC International, travelers there facing the worst wave of the flight cancellations. This was um on Sunday. I mean, Sunday. We came back Saturday. How lucky! 34 flights were canceled Sunday. You talk about incredible timing. And why? Well, of course, it's the ongoing federal government shutdown, which we're all sick of hearing about. In all, according to the latest report, nearly 75, now probably more, have been canceled since Friday. And you have the transportation secretary, Sean Duffy, ordering the flights to be gradually reduced by 10%. And that was starting Friday. And there's a 40 of the business, I mean, excuse me, the uh busiest uh U.S. airports, including several here in California, but not SMF. So we are incredibly incredibly fortunate. There's a safety precaution. I mean, uh according to Duffy, the staffing staffing shortages, they plagued the airports. And the most troubling among the air traffic controllers who have been reporting to work without pay since the shutdown began October the first. Nice job, government. Really nice. Of course, you know, you gotta pass that. They don't want to pass that bill unless we can pay the medical for all of the people who are illegally, but I'm not gonna go down that road right now. But although Sacramento International is not one of the airports on the list, it is uh all but one of the canceled Sacramento flights were headed or in, we're headed, or two were coming back from airports that had seen the flights that have been cut. Anyhow, my point is we were lucky there. That's the bottom line. Today being Veterans Day, my friends, Veterans Day. Formerly known as Armistice Day, God bless our veterans. Can't say enough about our veterans. This is the reason we have our freedom. And when you travel the world and you get to know these stories, and you don't have to travel the world to know the stories, but when you see it, it really you really feel a sense of pride. Like, my god, we are a great country. We lead the world when it comes to freedom. Why? Because of our veterans, military veterans of the United States States Armed Forces. By the way, distinct from Memorial Day. Veterans Day, we commemorate the service of all of the U.S. veterans. The memorial Memorial Day is an older holiday. We grew out of the Civil War commemorations, honoring those who died while in military service. There's, of course, another day that we honor the military, which we should do every day, but you know, I'm just saying there's these days in particular, Armed Forces Day in May, honors those currently serving in the U.S. military. Salute to all of you. Women's Veterans Day, recognized by a growing number of U.S. states that specifically honor women to have served in the U.S. military. Listen, to me, I get what you're doing there. I get that, but I think it's okay to just say veterans. Why do we have to break it up to women? Maybe you think, well, but the women get lost in the shuffle. I don't think so. I think that people who are honoring veterans honor all veterans. Like we don't have men's Veterans Day. Maybe we think that all men are veterans, but that's just not the case. Veterans covers everything. So I'm not big on you know the separation of the sexes when it comes to the day. Maybe you agree, maybe you disagree, but Woodrow Wilson in 1919, president, issuing a message to his countrymen on the first armistice day. He expressed that he felt the day meant what it what it meant to Americans. So you're talking about coming off World War I. Also, one year after the Spanish uh flu, where so many died, I think more people might have died from the flu even than the than than during the war. I could be wrong, but but he said a year ago our enemies laid down their arms in accordance with an armistice which rendered them impotent to renew host renew hostilities, gave to the world an assured opportunity to reconstruct it, shattered order, and to work out a peace. A new and more just set of international relations. The soldiers and the people of the European Allies had fought and endured for more than four years to uphold the barrier of civilization against the aggressions of armed force. We ourselves, he said, had been in the conflict something more than a year and a half. And this goes on and on. It's beautiful with a splendid forgetfulness of mere personal concerns, we remodeled, said the president. Our industries concentrated our financial resources, increased our agricultural output, assembled a great army, so that the last our power was at last, I should say, our power was a decisive factor in the victory. We were able to bring the vast resources, material, and morale of a great and free people to the assistance of our associates in Europe who had suffered and sacrificed without limits in the cost for which we fought. Out of this victory, he says there arose new possibilities of political freedom and economic concert concert. The war showed the strength of great nations acting together for high purposes, and the victory of arms foretells the enduring conquests which can be made in peace when nations j act justify uh justly and in furtherance of the common interests of men. And he concludes by saying to us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country's service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity that it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of nations. Again, that was President Woodrow Wilson. On this Tuesday, Pat's Peeps, number 360. What else I wanted to mention today? Just to lighten things up a little bit, and yeah, and when I conclude, I'll conclude with um a record off of my shelf that I want to feature today on Veterans Day. How about some really cool stuff? Let's go a completely different direction here for a second. Alright? Because you know I always love to lighten it up with particularly music. And I hate to say it, but I but I kind of this AI is so good and so scary sometimes. This artificial intelligence. So I thought, I, you know, so I've been messing around, listening to some things, and thinking, you know, at one point in my life, if I would have heard anyone take some of my favorite songs and change them up to another way, I would have been so mad. These days I'm I have an open mind because quite frankly, the good and the bad is that these are classics, some of them, not all of them, but these are well known, most of them. And we do the these AI generated covers are being done. Okay, what's so bad about that? Well, it's because it's AI. It's not the original, but dang God, it is so good. And I hate to say that. Now, is it as good as the originals? No. But I just thought I'd play a couple of these just so you can get an idea what I'm talking about. See how long you can tell before you know what this is. Well, I'll just tell you. I'll just tell you. Hotel California, if it were a 1960s Motown soul song. I mean, you judge for yourself. Pats Peeps, three hundred and sixty.
SPEAKER_03:On a dark desert highway, who wind in my hair. Smell of Khalitus rising up through the air. Up ahead in the distance. I saw a shimmering light. My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim. I had to stop for the night. There she stood in the doorway. I heard the mission bell. And I was thinking to myself, this could be heaven. This could be hell. And she showed me the way.
SPEAKER_04:What do you think of that?
SPEAKER_03:It is time of you. It is time of you can find it.
SPEAKER_04:I mean, you know I can see someone doing the cover like this.
SPEAKER_03:She got the most latest pants. She got a lot of pretty, pretty boys. She calls friends. How they dance in the cordial. Sweet, some more sweet. Some dance to remember.
SPEAKER_04:Some dance to focus. This is done by something called Future Orchestra. Future Orchestra, if you want to subscribe. Maybe they won't get mad at me if I promote them.
SPEAKER_03:Wake you up in the middle of the night. Just to hear them say.
SPEAKER_04:Again, future orchestra. It's pretty good. Maybe it's just me. Pretty good. Alright, let's take it to another different style of music. Let's go. So here is another AI generated, but again, tell me what you think. This is MM without me. If it were a 1950s, Motown Soul Song.
SPEAKER_02:Guess what's back? Guess who's back? Guess who back? Guess who's back?
SPEAKER_03:No, no, no, no, no, no, no. I've created a monster. Nobody wants to see my shoe no more. They want shady. I'm choppy liver. Well, if you want shady, this is what I give you. A little bit of meat mixed with some heart liquor. Some bugger that'll jump. I'm starting my heart quicker than a shock when I can shot that. I'm hospital by the doctor. When I'm not a cool operating, when I'm rockin' the table while it's operating. Hey, you waited this long to stop debating. Cause I'm back, I'm on the I know that you got a job. I miss chainin', but your husband's harm's problems complicating. So the FCC won't let me be. Oh, let me be me, so let me see. They try to shut me down on MTV. But it feels so empty without me. So come on, dip, bum on your lips, jump jiggle the hip and wiggle a bit, cause this is about to get heavy. I just give a love my lava suit. If you debe nah, I got a job for me, so everybody. Just follow me because we need a little. So empty with our me.
SPEAKER_04:This is done by Red Village. If you want to subscribe, Red Village.
SPEAKER_03:Embarrassed apparent still listen to hell, but they stop feeling like prisoners helpless. So someone comes along on a mission and yells bit.
SPEAKER_04:Madonna just won the back-to-back championships. Look like the blue gymnast, we're gonna take it bulbs at the start of the game up with a three-run jump. This game was amazing. People on the line saying, This is the best World Series, so exciting to watch it. I love the World Series. Yes, my team. Well, let's keep going. I mean, just Toronto, they were two bucks away from winning it in front of their hometown fans. Until McGambler Alhamdulillah since September 3rd goes deep to tie the game, one out in the ninth. And then makes an incredible play, play at second base, stops the ball, gets up, almost tips over him again, off balance, throws his guns in home for the fourth. I mean. I woke up in the morning in Sicily. My phone looked like a slot machine. It was sold of people trying to tell me awake up, bang awake. It's the game starting at 1 a.m. I mean, it was just incredible. Here you go.
SPEAKER_01:The Dodgers stand tall! Handling back to back titles.
SPEAKER_04:I could not be more proud of my team. Am I rubbing it in? No, I'm just stating a fact, but it feels good. Feels great as a fan. And I watch every single game. So that was incredible, even though I was, I couldn't really watch it because I was in Sicily and Italy, which I'm not gonna, you know what? Hey, again, that's a blessing. Then going to England and seeing all of the stuff there that we could possibly fit in within three days, including the Beatles tour, which you've just heard on the previous podcast. So again, blessed to travel this country, um, blessed to be an American. I know that they love American music in Europe. They love it. Everywhere you go, you hear American music. You know, we love American music, but we also love the European music. So do they. But as Kitty O'Neill, my one of my partner at the station, on our partner says um, you know, last night, they just love that American music. So thank you to our veterans on this Veterans Day. We're gonna end with a song. This is a song came out in 1966, a patriotic song. It was co-written and performed by Barry Sadler in the style of a ballad. This is about the United States Army Special Forces, one of the few popular songs in the Vietnam War era to cast the military in a positive light. Imagine that. Casting our soldiers in a positive light. How remarkable. Song became a major hit in January of 66, went to number one for five weeks on the Billboard Hot 100. It was ranked number one on the chart's most successful songs of 1966. Number one. And there was a lot of big songs in 1966. I get three right off, think of three right off the top of my head. Hey, the Georgie Girl, Winchester Cathedral, and um free. Anyhow. It was a crossover hit. Went to number one on Billboard's easy listening chart, went to number two on Billboard's country survey country survey, baby. This song, the ballad of the green berets, was the most commercially successful topical song of the Vietnam War era. Here on Pat's Peeps 360.
SPEAKER_00:Fearless men who jump and die. Men who mean just what they say. The brave men and women of the Rainbow Rain. Silver wing up on their chest is our men Well, I guess in this case it's America's best men. One hundred men will test today. But to all of our veterans, but only three when the green berade. Trained to live all nature's land. Trained in combat and a hand. Men who fight by night and day. Courage weak. Silver wings are on the chest.
SPEAKER_04:Thank you for listening.
SPEAKER_00:These are men.
SPEAKER_04:See you on the radio. God bless America.
SPEAKER_00:One hundred men will test today. But only three will be the rain.
