Ep. 364 Today's Episode Presents This Day In Rock History, Rain, Records, and Rock Legends in Today's Mini-Pod
Welcome back to the Pat's Peeps Podcast. It's a Wednesday, 19th day of November, 2025. It is Pat's Peeps Podcast 364. That's right. One shy of a full year in terms of, you know, 365 days a year and all. Of a full year of actual podcasts. I mean, we're what? We're two years into this here on the Pats peeves. So, hey, you know, we take some time off, so so 364 and not too shabby, friends. Hope you're doing well wherever you are listening to the podcast today. My name is Pat Walsh, as I tell you all the time, host of the Pat Walsh show on radio, KFPK News Radio, 7 to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday, 93.1 FM, 1530 AM. The last radio man, right, Rip? The last nighttime local radio show in the good old USA. That's not affiliated with a sports team. Sitting by the fire today, continuing to stay cozy on this rainy day as I look out my studio window into the beautiful foothills of Northern California. It's not really raining. It's just very overcast. No rain yet, but I can only imagine that we may have some today. But um apparently there are there is, I should say, more rain to come. We had a little uh brief respite from the uh storms. But another one is set to hit California starting tomorrow. I don't know where you're listening, wherever you're listening, thank you. Got a message last night from Alabama. Listening in Alabama to my radio show. We did have a fun show last night. Let's see, who was it? Uh Kylie Brooks said uh Jack on the iHeart app in Alabama called to say great show tonight. We had fun talking about the watch list. Uh 10 worst toys for the holiday season. Brought up a lot of memories. We had a lot of great calls. Uh but yeah, uh, so here we are. It is that time of year. Yeah, rain. I love to see the rain coming in. So we're expecting more tomorrow. Um it's gonna soak much of the state, they're saying, that have already set November precipitation records. So that's great. Again, never take this for granted, obviously, after all the years of uh the drought. Uh system expected to follow a pattern similar to recent storms. So we'll get showers in the Bay Area, then it'll hit SoCal. Uh for the greatest rainfall totals, they're saying rain forecasts to reach San Francisco about midnight tonight. Of course, we're gonna have it here in the Sacramento area. I'm sure to get it here in the foothills for no doubt about it. Saying the showers might linger. Look at me, I'm like a meteorologist. Meanwhile, these showers could linger through the afternoon. Rainfall generally expected to remain below a quarter of an inch here on the Pat's beefs 364. At least that's in the Bay Area. But um, you know what? There might be some higher totals tallied here. Showers expected at SoCal. Thursday afternoon, blah, blah, blah. Not much snow in the Sierra, they're saying, though. The bulk of the precipitation, or if you're really cool, you say the precip. Expected to remain along the coast. The moisture that does that does reach the Sierra is probably gonna fall, they say, is rain rather than snow below 7,000. Uh, less than a half a foot of snow forecast along Interstate 80 over Donner Summit. Wind's predicted to be light. It'll be the last of a series of storms to hit California this month. The dry pattern begins this weekend. That's nice, right? We get nice weather this weekend, rain all week, then nice weather over the weekend. That's what they're predicting. That'll continue through Thanksgiving. That's right. Next week, Thanksgiving. Hope you heard my Thanksgiving spectacular yesterday. That was fun. Fog will probably begin to settle, they say, in the valleys in the morning, so look out in Sacramento through the Central Valley as well. High elevation areas facing freezing temperatures at night. So stay bundled up. You know what? I I didn't want to get too serious today about too much. So if you don't mind, I thought today would be, because it's a good day for this. I thought today would be a great day for this day in music. I always like talking music. I think if I had my way, I'd talk music all the time. And I think uh if my listeners had their way that I'd talk music even more often. But I, you know, there's other stuff that we get to. But today, this is an interesting day on the musical front. So I am gonna start right there, beginning in 2016, when a furious letter from John Lennon to Paul McCartney and his wife Linda was written after the Beatles breakup sold for nearly$30,000. This was to an anonymous collector in Dallas. The two-page typed draft with handwritten notes, uh, where it's Lennon criticizing the couple for their treatment of him and his wife, Yoko Ono. The attack said to be in response to Linda's criticism of him not publicly announcing his departure from the band. And uh that prompted John to write this song off his uh album there, song called Tight Ass. So here you get on Pat's Peeps 364.
unknown:Tight ass got it late.
SPEAKER_02:Uh tight's all right, but if you can't stand the gate, you better get back in the shade.
SPEAKER_00:Meanwhile, two farmers in 2012 were found not guilty of health and safety offenses in this bizarre story. After a giant hay bale crushed former ELO cellist Mike Edwards to death. He was killed instantly when a 600-kilogram, about 1,300-pound bale rolled down a field, can you imagine? Landed on his van near Tontas in Devon in September 2010. In March of 2011 in Plymouth, an inquest jury returned a verdict of accidental death on Mr. Edwards. Meanwhile, in other this day in music history in 2006, a guitar played by George Harrison set to fetch more than 100,000, actually more than that, even more than 100,000 at the London auction. The Maiden MS 500 guitar was used on the Beatles' first album.
SPEAKER_02:Listen. Do you want to know a secret? Do you promise not to tell? Whoa, oh closer. Let me whisper in your ear. Say the word you want to hear.
unknown:I'm in love with you.
SPEAKER_00:In 2004, record producer Terry Melcher, who was behind hits by the birds, Ry Cooter and the Beach Boys, all very good bands, big fan of Ry Cooter, died at the age of 62 after a long battle with skin cancer. He was the son of actress Doris Day, and he helped write the song Kokomo for the Beach Boys. He also produced Mr. Tambourine Man for the Birds as well as hits for the Mamas and the Papas. In 2004, rapper Young Buck was arrested over a stabbing at the Vibe Hip Hop Awards. Young Buck, his real name is David Darnell Brown, was arrested on suspicion of suspicion of stabbing a man who allegedly punched rap star Dr. Dre in the face. He was released on a half a million dollars bail after surrendering to police in Los Angeles. Meanwhile, in 2003, Greg Ridley, the English bass player, died from pneumonia. He was a member of the VIPs with Keith Emerson, Spooky Tooth, and Humble Pie. And he had the 1969 UK number four hit natural born boogie. He formed Strange Brew with Clem Clemson and Cozy Powell. What a great drummer, Cozy Powell. Meanwhile, in 2003, police issued an arrest warrant from Michael Jackson following allegations of sexual abuse of a 12-year-old boy. Jackson, who was in Las Vegas filming a video, negotiating with police to arrange a time and a place to hand himself in. Meanwhile, in 2001, Scott Whelan of STP. Stone Temple pilots arrested after allegedly fighting with his wife at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas. Whelan booked on one count of domestic battery. It was released 12 hours later.
SPEAKER_02:Takes more than a male down to show us. Almost cut my hair. Happened just the other day.
SPEAKER_00:Other news today in 1992, REM played a Greenpeace Benefit show at the 40W Club, Athens, Georgia. For 500 people, show is recorded on a solar-powered mobile recording studio. In 1988, Bon Jovi started a tour grunted number one on the U.S. singles chart with the lead single of the band's album, New Jersey. Bad Medicine became the group's third U.S. number one hit and a number 17 hit in the U.K. This is one of the sadder stories in music. This band particularly, and I've talked about them on Pat Speeps before. On this day, uh music history 1983, English musician and songwriter Tom Evans from Badfinger took his own life after a bitter argument with Badfinger guitarist Joey Molland about the royalties for the song Without You. Evans co-wrote Without You. This was a hit for both Harry Nielsen and Mariah Carey. Family members said that the singer, songwriter, was never able to get over his former bandmate Pete Ham's suicide. This is a very tragic band, Bad Finger.
SPEAKER_01:Yes, it shows.
SPEAKER_00:In nineteen seventy-nine, Chuck Berry was released from prison after serving a four-month sentence for tax evasion. Taking you back to 1976 when punk rock was a thing. UK Music Weekly sounds made the Sex Pistols debut 45 Anarchy in the UK, its single of the week. Huge fan of Frank Zappa. You probably know that if you listen to my show. The work also looks forward to Zappa's later crusade against the PMRC with its themes of government censorship. From the album Joe's Garage, Watermelons, and Easter Hay. I just want to take a minute to say thank you as we listen to Frank. Thanks for listening today. It's kind of a mini podcast today. I hope you don't mind. Sometimes I throw up these little mini podcasts, you know. Gonna get a workout in today. Before the rain hits. So thank you so much for listening, like I said, and um please support local businesses. Don't forget free dinner. Free dinner at Rock and Soul Diner in Sacramento through the month of November. Please go do that right there. If you're going downtown, anyhow, it's dinners we're talking about. See you on the radio.
