SPEAKER_04:

All right, out here walking on a beautiful Friday morning. So nice to see the sun shining again. It was great to start getting some rain. Clouds and stuff. I did love that. But now the sun is shining and I'm loving it again. How about you? Happy Friday. Fatspeeps Podcast 366. It also feels outstanding to be out here walking again. I haven't done one of these podcasts on during my walk for a while. I love it. People out here working again already as soon as that sun comes out. People up here in the neighborhood out doing stuff, getting stuff done. Just like I am. I it is a Friday. What is this? December? I mean December. November. 21st, I believe. So we have less than a week before Thanksgiving. Oh. That's a Tesla truck. That's one of those Tesla trucks. I'm sorry, but that's one of the ugliest vehicles I've ever seen. And I mean, it's just like it wasn't like they just it's just ugly. I mean that thing. I used to think like the AMC Matador was the ugliest. Certainly that's one of the I don't know about what you think. I know people always say the gremlin or the AMC Pacer. AMC had a way with just hideously ugly cars. Even the javelin that some people covet these days. Looks like a Camaro or a Mustang that something went awry. Anyhow, that just went by me. The Pontiac Aztec 2. Man, that is one ugly vehicle. Yeah, less than a week from Thanksgiving. Uh by the way, my name is Pat Walsh, host of the Pat Walsh Radio Show, KFPK News Radio. 93.1 FM, 15.30 a.m., 7 to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday. Heck, with the weekend coming up, I like to remind you all the time that Rock and Soul Diner is just waiting for you to come in for your two-for-one dinner. You walk into Rock and Soul again. I'm gonna underline dinner because that's what we're trying to emphasize. We want to build that dinner crowd. And let me know what day works for you guys. What kind of a well, maybe next maybe we'll set something up for next week, and I'll put it on my podcast or I'll mention it on my radio show that we're gonna gather at Rock and Soul Diner and have some dinner. I think I'd like to do that. So I'll let you know when we're gonna do that. But yeah, two for one dinners any day of the week. Rock and soul roc and so l soul. Yesterday you heard my brother Tim from AI Lending. Please check out that, please check that out when you get a chance. AI Lending, if you're looking to if you need a lender and you're gonna buy a home, I represent good local companies, including my brothers, AI Lending. Just check them out online. My brother's name is Timothy, by the way. Timothy Michael. You know, on Thanksgiving, I love Thanksgiving. And this year I cannot wait. I'm so excited because this year I actually get to help make a Thanksgiving dinner. I'm super excited about that. That's something I've been wanting to do all year, believe it or not, it is. Oh, trade dress a shout out! Happy almost Thanksgiving! Dodgers back to back champions! How about that? Had to fit that in. Oh, and yep, and my Rams are doing good. Sorry, I'm just gonna keep talking about that because I love it. Let's figure the football, so Thanksgiving. That's where I was gonna go with this anyhow. I don't know. I love Thanksgiving because I maybe I mentioned this before, but it sticks with me, you know. I love Thanksgiving because it's a time to be with friends, family, whatever. But then they have three football games on Thanksgiving. Is it really about football all day of Thanksgiving? Is that what it's become? I love the NFL, but wow. Talk about monopolizing today. I don't mind it, I guess, being on in the background. I don't mind that. I kind of I used to like it better. It was always a Detroit Lions, like the Lions would never win anything, but they've got to always be featured on Thanksgiving. You could always count on that. And then at some point, the Cowboys. Now, maybe they started being on Thanksgiving at the same time. That's not the way my recollection is. I thought the Lions were on up, looked that up for years before the Cowboys started playing, you know, because there's America's team. Cowboys are America's team. How dare you! Just because your s your cheerleaders are on the love boat doesn't make you America's team. But somehow they got that nickname. It's part of the reason so many people hate the Cowboys, and so many people love the Cowboys. Polarizing team. But I don't know, three games? It used to be fun when you just I mean, I'm old school, man. Like they used to have marching bands, which uh bored the hell out of me to be honest. I used to love that, no matter what song that without now, please we direct your attention to the center of the field. Bill, Bill, where the uh marching band, Louisiana State Marching Band, band, band, man, pays tribute to Fleetwood Mac. You know, if you do in dreams, but it always sounds the same. You're like, okay, isn't that dreams? All right, Pat Benajar by the the Florida Nanny College marching band. Pity I can't say my pressure for marching band as I almost get hit by a car. I don't know, three three's a lot. You know, one of the things you talked about, speaking of sport type of things, I uh show last night was that Carmel wants to ban pickleball because it's just too noisy. As I pointed out, people who grunt in tennis are pretty noisy too, but I did a little research on that. And what I found out is that yeah, that could be very, very annoying. Cuz it's just they got this like it's almost like a ping pong paddle, so it's clack, clack, clack, clack. Now, that could be annoying when it's happening from the time you wake up to the time you go to bed. You hear that all day and into the night. I get it. It's not that quiet, but they're gonna ban it within the city of Carmel. Who knows where that'll lead to after that? But my thought is why ban the sport? Why not you're gonna tell me there's gotta be an area, you know, somewhere in Carmel where it's out in the middle of nothing. And I mean, I know that property's worth a lot, so you're probably gonna say, well, yeah, well, that property is worth so much. Are you gonna put a pickleball court out there on that super expensive property? Who knows? Maybe you are. Because a lot of people want to play pickleball, but maybe you put it out in a place where neighbors can't hear it. Or here's the other thing, too. Like, I understand it. Let's say you live in a community, wherever that community might be, you live in this community, and then all of a sudden they put in pickleball courts because it's the new craze. And they think people want that. So now you've lived here, it's been peaceful and quiet, but now you have pickleballers out there. Is that what you call them? And you that which initially for two seconds, three seconds ain't that bad. All day long? Okay, I get it. So I think it's very unfair to those people who I don't feel that bad for are the people who might be protesting this, these pickleball courts, who, as part of the enticement, part of the allure to moving into that community is when they get the tour initially, if the tour person says, Hey, one of the great amenities here is we have a swimming pool, you know, we have a gym, we have the these facilities, and one of the things we have are pickleball courts. And you say, Well, hey, that is a good reason for me to sign up here, to to get a home here. Because I like that. I like the fact that they have pickleball courts at that point. Then you move in to realize, well, hey, these pickleball courts are annoying. Well, too bad. For you. Because you chose that as an option, you chose that as one of the reasons that you moved into the community. For the other people, I must say, yeah, I get it. I certainly enjoy the peace and quiet up here. I'm done with my walk now. Um, I enjoy the peace and quiet, the serenity where I live up in my mystery hut up in the foothills. And I think that if I had to hear that sound of those pickleball paddles all day, that would be extremely annoying. So I do get that. But to ban it altogether and not find a facility to where they can play without annoying neighbors is uh I don't know. But who cares, right? Like honestly, three days ago, I don't think we cared about pickleball in Carmel. I would tell you that I wouldn't even imagine I could make it on my show. So I think I'm gonna do is because I don't think anybody would ever think that's a problem, unless you're living in one of these communities. So I think what I may do in the next couple of days is go visit a pickleball court. I might do that today. If I do, I'll include it on this podcast, and I'll just hit audio and let you hear how that sounds with no narration, and then I may go interview some of the people who are playing pickleball. So I'm gonna make a plan on that. I think I found a place where they play pickleball outdoors, and there's neighbors around around this gym. So I'm gonna uh I'll I'll I'll do that, okay? Ah, alright. Well, wherever you are, whatever you're up to, I hope that one of the things I'm hoping for for you is that you're here, I'll say this in late November. It might sound odd, but you can't forget about it just because it's late November. I hope that whatever your New Year's resolutions were 11 months ago, that you've been successful in um in your New Year's resolutions. And I can honestly say, even though I'm not out here running or doing these fast walks or working out like I should be uh every day, I've done it enough to where I feel very good. My blood pressure, like I've mentioned before, is perfect, or at least it was the last time I went in. Um, when I went to Sicily and Italy and England. I mean, I really excelled at going up some of these cobblestone streets, which I can tell you, some of them are very, especially in some of these medieval towns, are very steep. And people were winded. Some of the people, uh, it wasn't that easy, but I seemed to have almost, it was almost like I was cross-country skiing up some of them, taking big steps and not as winded as I would have been had I not been working out a little bit and getting some cardio. So I feel very good about that. I'm so glad it's the weekend. We're supposed to have sunshine, I think, right on through Thanksgiving. So, one of the things I'm really looking forward to, I've said this before, I love doing this, especially when I have a few days off, is having a burn pile out there on a burn day, listening to music, and uh just enjoying that. You know, two birds, one stone. I can sit there and relax, or I can relax, even though there's some work to it. You're burning all that, you know, all the wood and all the pine needles and everything you're needing to rake up to make that happen. But I don't know, there's just something about it therapeutic, I'm almost almost saying and then listening to old classic radio shows. And who knows, perhaps having, I don't know, maybe a shot or two of the Irish, and even a cigar while I'm listening to music and doing that. So we shall continue on speaking of music. Ah, so nice, such a beautiful day. Thought I would continue the podcast out here driving. This is one of my favorite things in the world to do. Put the top down, the car, the GT, showing some music, go for a ride like this. What a gorgeous fall day it is. I love driving the back roads. Honestly, one of my very favorite activities in the world. Everything is so green. Love all the moss on the trees. A lot of the trees, of course, start to turn orange, red, yellow. I just love being you know on the side roads. Off the beaten path. I'll always, if I have a choice between the freeway and the back roads, I'll always go with the back roads. Hardly any cars out here are so peaceful. Puts me in a good mood. Wherever you are today, friends, hope you're in a good mood. Patch peeps 366. Happy Friday.

SPEAKER_02:

I'm hungry, baby. I want some food. I need your turkey. Yeah, it's so good. Some mashed potatoes, some mac and cheese. You got me begging. I need turkey, please. I'm excited for Thanksgiving Day, cause I could eat turkey all day. And I'm finished with cookies and cake. Some chocolate. Grandma's bringing her famous stuffing. And we're gonna make broccoli and cheese. Maybe even some warm apple bake. Turkey! Yes, please. And I'll find out the broken. I'm right here.

SPEAKER_04:

A lot of people have different ways of making their turkey for Thanksgiving. I know a lot of people like to deep fry the turkey. Sounds very dangerous to me, but I it sounds like it would turn out really good. Deep frying, as they say, yields this turkey that is incredibly moist on the inside with you get the dark, crispy skin. That sounds good. Like dark crispy skin. Yummy. Uh the unique cooking methods. Well, you've got your smoking, your grilling, your spaghetti cooking. Isn't that is that hold on? Is that not what I thought is it as bad? Okay. They want you to be very careful, obviously. Three to four minutes per pound. They say on a flat level surface, like a driveway. You know, just at least ten feet away from any buildings. Any wooden decks, any flammable materials. Keep it away. Ensure the turkey is completely thawed and dry. That prevents the dangerous oil splatter and the flare-ups. Again, this sounds very dangerous to me. Never ever leave the fryer unattended while in use, of course. Keep children and pets away. Man, this is some dangerous stuff, isn't it? Use a high smoke point oil like peanut canola or vegetable oil. Turn off the burner before slowly lowering the turkey into the hot oil and before removing it. Again, I know a lot of people do this. I don't know if I'm gonna be doing this, but I'll watch you do it from a distance. Have a grease-rated fire extinguisher nearby. And they say, whatever you do, never use water on an oil fire, of course.

SPEAKER_02:

I need a little butter in my life. Yes, please. I can't wait until this candy.

SPEAKER_01:

Those bits and pieces, I mix them up. Pour on some baby and I scoop it up. My roll is soggy, but I don't care. Don't sit by me, cause I won't share.

SPEAKER_04:

There's other ways to cook a turkey. Spatchcock, honey. Yes, dear. You gotta be spatchcocking a turkey. Is that what you call it? That's good, dear. What are you doing? What are you doing, babe? Just spatcocking the turkey. This method involves removing the backbone. Flattening the bird. Holy god. That's a rough day for that bird. Allowing for faster, more sure, it's good for you and me. Allows for faster, more even cooking, crispy skin throughout. Well, of course it does. You removed its backbone and flattened the pork critter. Anyhow, it can be done in an oven or a grill, smoking the turkey with a mild wood apple wood. Now that sounds good. Or pecan wood. Infuses that deep flavor into the meat and gives the skin the beautiful deep mahogany color. I would like to try that. That'd be one of my favorite ways of doing the turkey. Grilling freeze-up oven space can add a pleasant smokiness, they say, using direct heat and a drip pan to catch the juices for the gravy. That's another good way. I'd love to, you know, I'd love to grill that on my Weber. I like I like I like the Weber. Again, I'm old school. Rotisserie. I don't have a rotisserie. The rotisserie roaster. Like they used to have at Sam's off-brow in the windows before we became too good for that. I loved that, man. That would draw you in. Spit roasting, they'd call it. The slow cooking process. You just see it dripping into that pan. Put it on that rotisserie. I ain't got room for a rotisserie in my place. But ensures that evenly cooked golden brown crispy crust.

SPEAKER_02:

I'm excited for Thanksgiving Day, cause I could eat turkey all day. And I'll finish with cookies and cake. Some chocolate. Grandma's bringing her famous stuffing. And we're gonna make broccoli and cheese. Maybe even some warm apple bake. Turkey! Yes, please! And I'll fucking broken me. I'm right here.

SPEAKER_04:

Bear Valley Community Church. That's right. Here's a couple of more. You braise the turkey. Brazing requires cutting the turkey into pieces, but it guarantees, they say, incredibly moist and tender meat by cooking it in a flavorful liquid. And finally, this one I'm not interested in trying personally, but I've heard people say they like it. Eh, just not my thing. I'm not one I know it sounds weird. I'm not a food mixer, first of all. Like I was the kid at the table that I didn't want my stuffing with my well, I didn't want even as a kid, I didn't like stuffing. Now it's my favorite food. But I like I didn't want my gravy or that kind of food, the savory, that kind of stuff, touching my fruit salad or my cranberry sauce. I didn't like the sweet mix, you know, the whipped cream of the fruit salad mixed with the gravy from my mashed potatoes. I didn't like that. So I'm not a big mixer like that. And the turduckin, what it does is it mixes the meat. I'm sure it's good, but so they say for the dramatic centerpiece, they'll try a turduck and bone chicken stuffed into a D-bone duck stuffed into a D-bone turkey, buddy. Turduckin. So either way you do it, hey. Good for you. Happy almost Thanksgiving. Happy Friday, really. We're still a few days away. So I pulled this record off my rare record shelf today, and I'm looking at it. You know, I have records I'm always telling you that I got from a um that I collected from other places, including a radio station I used to work at. So I got a lot of these records. Some of those, some of these though, are my records from when I was a teenager growing up, you know, I junior high and stuff. And the one today, I'm pretty sure this is from my my collection as a kid. It's not in the very best of shape. It's in okay shape. It's on D-Light Records. I loved this era of this band. And it's got a flip side, so I thought I'd play that first before I get to the hit side. So there's no stickers on it. This is not a um it's not a promo. So I did buy this at one point. I don't know, maybe I was 14, 15, maybe? That's how long I've had this. D-Light Records. Okay, this song right here. I remember it followed. It was either just before, but I think it followed one of my all-time favorite AM hit songs. Which is also by this band. But I could have that flip-flop. But it's a 1974 song by this American RB in soul and funk band. I liked them because they were funky during this. From their fourth studio album, Wild and Peaceful, from 1973, written by Robert Bell, who has a nickname. I'll tell you in a moment. Ronald Bell, George M. Brown, you probably already know. Uh Robert Spike Mickens, Cladus Charles Smith, Dennis R. Thomas, and Rick A. Westfield. The song was the group's first number one RB single went to uh it went to that position in June of 74. So, you know, just because it was the first number one, I don't know if the other song I was thinking of was number one or not, or if it came after this. Anyhow, the single was a successful crossover hit, went to number six on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart as well. Record World said these guys have have to be funk personified. Make way for their next million seller talking about this song. I'm gonna play the flip side of it though. The flip side, the B side, the song that no one ever hears from this record. And I have not heard it since I was a kid, because I just haven't listened to this record, I don't think, since I was a kid on the 45, anyhow. And I remember as a kid, I couldn't remember, I mean, I couldn't figure out how to exactly say this song. So we'll listen together. It's first time in a long time. It's by Cool and the Gang. The B side is called doughy. D U J I I'm gonna be a little bit. It's brought to you by Nobisco. Also by Craft and by Norwelco. Tonight's special guest. Well, it's that era. This week. That's kind of more of a comedy show feel. Is it an instrumental? This week. All the rookie. Hey yeah. Alright, there you go. Flipping it over. This was the big hit sign, and it still is so funky. Hollywood swinging cool in the gang. That's peeps 366. My favorite though is Jungle Boogie. By cool in the gang. Here you go. It's appropriate by the way, say the runafo.

SPEAKER_00:

What you got to say?

SPEAKER_04:

Dodgers and Rams. Sorry, I true. I think it's even in that Joey Otani commercial. Swing I was sweet I remember not too long ago I went to a saw these guys open for Van Halen can you imagine I always wanted to get into a band to sing my songs and become a bad piano playing now So here I am in this Hollywood song Let me pick up the needle put it over here a little bit I I always liked the ending the way cool and the gang would end their songs with a lot of grunts and things here you go see if I can Yeah I always liked this I did the same thing in Jungle Boogie By the way going back to that nickname earlier Robert Cool Bell I thought Cool would have given it away. Thank you for listening. Ow yeah pass beeps three hundred and sixty-six happy Friday, have a great weekend. We'll see you on the radio tonight.
