Ep. 367 Today's Peep Basks in the Upper Elevation Sunshine! Sorry Foggy-Day Valley Dwellers, A Thanksgiving Week Goes Off The Rails In More Ways Than One Including Anticipation of the Much-Needed Speed from Madera to Gilroy, and a Rare 45 Record from 1972
Welcome back to the Pat's Peeps Podcast. Yeah, buddy. Yes, yes indeed. Here we are. 367 podcasts in to the Pat's Peeps Podcast. Happy Tuesday. It is Thanksgiving Week 2025. And wherever you are listening, I certainly do appreciate that. As I look out my studio window into the beautiful foothills of Northern California, the sun is shining where I live in my mystery hut in the forest. You know where I live up here? It is one of the things that I really love is because let's say you're in Sacramento. Yesterday and I think today too, in the Sacramento area, somewhere in the valley. Doesn't have to be Sacramento, could be the surrounding areas, whether it's Rio Linda or Citrus Heights or Carmite, wherever, El Grove, Central California. If you're down in the valley, down in the valley, Valley Solo. Thank you. Down in the valley, you get the fog. And it's been foggy. And so you don't even, even on a sunny day, even when there's no clouds, unless you want to consider fog a cloud, you don't see the sunshine. So where I'm at, the sun is shining. It's gorgeous. So that's what I'm looking out my studio window and seeing here today on the 25th day of November 2025. By the way, I'm the host of the Pat Walsh Radio Show, heard on KFPK Radio in Sacramento, 93.1 FM, 1530 AM, streaming live everywhere on your free iHeart app. So are you enjoying your Thanksgiving week? I hope you're thankful for some things. Um I uh would love it if you would, and I'd be thankful if you just you know check out patspeeps.com and uh see what we have to offer there. Maybe there's something of your liking. Maybe perhaps you want to be warm during this late fall and then into winter with a nice comfy Pat's Peeps hoodie, or we've got some uh uh other Pat my the Pat Wall Show t-shirts, hoodies, caps. We have it doesn't everyone seems like they have a merch thing now, huh? Uh but yeah, it's there that's very nice. If you grew up in Sacramento or really around the world, you'll know that Tower Records is a is a I mean it's iconic, and we have a beautiful t-shirts and sweatshirts with Tower Records. If you're looking for something cool like that for this time of year, maybe for the holidays, what have you. We've got the uh oh, Sam's off brow. Awesome stuff with the menu on the back. So please check that out if you would uh if you would be so kind. Tonight on my radio show, Scott Robbins will be joining us on as he does on Tuesday nights. We'll be going through through some of the stories that I have not been able to get to because of a variety of reasons. Sometimes we get a lot of phone calls on the show. So that'll that's what we're gonna do tonight. Including, let's see. Oh, yeah, you got the high speed rail. I don't know if I'm gonna do that tonight. That's kind of a little political thing. I don't really feel like doing that like on my radio show on Thanksgiving week. Maybe you saw this. Well, I'll just do it here. I I don't know why. If I don't do it on my radio show, but maybe I'll do it here. I just think someone I just got a chuckle out of this, so we'll look at it that way. Because for those of you who are definitely gonna need this, you know, Madeira to Gilroy. So it's not really political, it's just a it's just hard to fathom this is happening. Despite the opposition from Merced leaders, that's where a little bit of the politics comes in there. They had a California's high-speed rail authority. See, this is an example of what I have not been able to get to over the last week. I wanted to get to it, but hey, we get into a conversation and that's what happens. Some of these things get sidelined. But this might even be two weeks ago. California's high-speed rail authority uh says they're gonna uh try to change course. They're gonna try to change the state law so they can use the money to rebuild more profitable routes outside of the required Merced to Bakersfield connection. First of all, that was required. Yeah, listen, Tony. Here's the deal. If we could just get a high-speed train somehow from Merced to Bakersfield, I can't tell you what that would do for the state. Well, that's right, Todd. I was thinking the same thing. Together we can make this happen. That's Tony and Todd, thank you. I picked two names with a T. Hi. Now, I I mean no disrespect to Madeira. I mean no respect to Gilroy. I love both of those places. But doing that would help him more easily secure the private investment to speed that project along. For God's sakes, we really need to get on to that quickly. Because you could imagine the chaos that occurs when people are trying to go from Madeira to Gilroy or vice versa. You're trying to get the Gilroy to Madeira, you better have a high-speed train. I mean, think about that. The original Merced to Bakersfield. Whew! So the current law called SB 198 Capsia Agency spending it$500 million on the work outside the Merced to Bakersfield route. Now they first pitched dropping the rule in August said it makes us financial, it just makes financial sense to delay the rail construction to Merced in favor of first connecting Madeira to Gilroy. Anyone with me on this? You're right. It just doesn't make any sense. You got, first of all, Tony, again, you gotta connect the Gilroy to the Madeira. That's right, Todd. The idea troubled the Merced officials and business owners who say that you know what? They've spent years planning for this for a downtown station. That's part of the main initial segment there. For this train. The train's initial segment, Corey says the agency could secure a partnership with private firms by the middle of next year, but the investors are likely to want to focus on rail segments with greater ridership predictions than Mercedes-Bakersfield. If you want innovation, they said, you want to generate revenues out of the system, then they, the private sector, will have to create ideas. So you're on bad speech. You must remember this Rock and Soul Diner, R O C and Soul S O L Diner Sacramento, two for one dinners, underlining dinners downtown Sacramento. If you go in there and you say, Pat's peeps for dinner, you will receive two for one dinners. Isn't that spiffy? Let's see. They are at 1825 10th Street in Sacramento. You can call them even. Call them and say, I'd like to make dinner reservations. I don't know if they require dinner reservations. I think you could probably just walk in there. But here's their phone number. They're a Pat Speeps business. 916-848-0040. 916-848-0040. And again, their address is 1825 10th Street in Sacramento. So check that out for yourself. I think you'll be very, very happy to do that. Alright. So with that in mind, we continue on wishing you a happy Thanksgiving week to you and to your family.
SPEAKER_10:Karen, honey, how was school today?
SPEAKER_04:Did you have band practice today, or is Mr. Larson still sick? No, he's still sick.
SPEAKER_10:I had a funny thing happen today at work. When I left the office, I had trouble unlocking my car. Then I realized I had the wrong set of keys.
SPEAKER_04:Did somebody take your keys?
SPEAKER_10:Can I finish the story? Turns out that I had accidentally taken Jeff Peabody's keys and he had taken mine. We really had a long laugh.
SPEAKER_04:I thought that's who took them.
SPEAKER_10:Will you ever let me finish a damn story?
SPEAKER_04:I just assume that Jeff.
SPEAKER_10:I would love to finish one damn story. You don't talk to me like that. You don't talk to me like that. I am a division manager. That is very important.
SPEAKER_04:Do not raise it.
SPEAKER_10:Very important.
SPEAKER_03:You don't talk to me like that! People are scared of me! Why would anyone be scared of you? I hate you, big fat turd! I guess Paula is really excited about the sleepover tomorrow night. Shut up, you drunken witch.
SPEAKER_04:It's not ready until Thursday.
SPEAKER_10:I thought you said it'd be ready today.
SPEAKER_04:No, it's going to be ready Thursday.
SPEAKER_10:Well, you know I have that meeting tomorrow.
SPEAKER_04:Well, I'm sorry.
SPEAKER_10:I wish you weren't a liar.
SPEAKER_03:I didn't lie, Ted.
SPEAKER_10:I just wish you weren't a liar.
SPEAKER_03:I wish you wouldn't call me a liar.
SPEAKER_10:Don't raise your voice at me.
SPEAKER_03:I am not raising my voice.
SPEAKER_10:You do not talk to me like that. You do not talk to me like that.
SPEAKER_04:I wish you were dead.
SPEAKER_10:I'm gonna take the car into the shop tomorrow.
SPEAKER_03:You mean you're lame dog stratus?
SPEAKER_10:You don't talk about my car this week.
SPEAKER_11:I drive! I drive it! I drive a dog stratus!
SPEAKER_00:Back in LA every year, around Thanksgiving, there's this uh billboard that PETA puts up every year. You know, PETA, they don't want you to eat meat and stuff like that. And it's around Thanksgiving, it's got a picture of a dog on it. Says you wouldn't eat your dog, so why would you eat a turkey? I was like, okay, pretty good point.
SPEAKER_01:So I went home and I ate my dog outside here at the James Brown Turkey Giveaway. So uh this is happening right now over at May Park. I don't want everybody to go rushing over there, though. There was a registration process here over the last couple of weekends, so uh you did have to pre-register for this. But this is the result now. Here we are uh 8 20 in the morning on Monday of Thanksgiving week, and people are out there getting their turkeys. We talked with James Brown's daughter, Deanna, uh a week or two, maybe two weeks ago now. Uh she said, you know, her father, James Brown, knew what it was like to grow up uh in poverty and in need and not having things like this for the holidays. So uh this is their opportunity as the James Brown Family Foundation to now give back and do a little bit of good here for the for the community turkey they had at Wilson Farms.
SPEAKER_08:26 pounds.
SPEAKER_03:It's great, Dad. It's too bad Patty couldn't be with us this Thanksgiving, though. Oh, I know.
SPEAKER_02:Now I'm gonna cry. Mom. That's her.
SPEAKER_08:Hello? Oh, hello, Patty. Oh no, no, it's just your mother and me and your sister so far.
SPEAKER_02:Tell her we love her and we missed her.
SPEAKER_08:Your mom says she loves and misses you.
SPEAKER_02:Ask her if she got the dish towels I sent.
SPEAKER_08:Did you get the dish towels your mom sent?
SPEAKER_02:Oh, you know, tell her I couldn't get the ones to match the hot pepper motif, so I got the pineapples. And ask her if those go with the dish towels that Helen sent last year.
SPEAKER_08:Okay, she says she couldn't get the one uh oh for crying out loud, Fran, this is a toll call.
SPEAKER_02:Fine, mister, I'll be setting the table.
SPEAKER_08:What's that? Okay, Sandy, she wants to talk to you.
SPEAKER_03:Ooh, I can't come to the phone right now, Dad.
SPEAKER_08:She can't come to the phone right now. She had a date with that drummer last night, she said.
SPEAKER_03:Dry spell over, huh?
SPEAKER_08:Dry spells over, huh? In a big way.
SPEAKER_03:Hi, the drummer, a cute one.
SPEAKER_08:Was he cute? Cuter than Dave Grohl with great hands, she said.
SPEAKER_03:Oh yeah? Long fingers?
SPEAKER_08:Long fingers, Patty? Holy smokes. The longest she's ever seen with a size size 13 feet. Wow. Yeah, you tell him that I know a great store where you can get hard-to-find shoes. I'm a ten and a half extra wide. Like imagine how hard a time I have stuffing that into one what's that?
SPEAKER_07:Can't stuff this. Can't stuff this. Can't stuff this. You know your down. Your phone boy.
SPEAKER_05:Can't stuff this. Meanwhile, on Thanksgiving Day, if you're looking for football, here's a reminder. You got not one, not two, but yes, three games on Thanksgiving Day. So these three games are gonna be broadcast on different networks, Fox, CBS, and NBC, featuring matchups with the Green Bay Packers, Detroit Lions, Kansas City Chiefs, Dallas Cowboys, Cincinnati Bengals, and the Baltimore Ravens. The first game on Thanksgiving will be the Green Bay Packers versus the Detroit Lions. That is going to be a 10 a.m. start here, Pacific time. That game is going to be on Fox. Um then game two. You have the Kansas City Chiefs coming off of their win last week against the Indianapolis Colts, taking on the Dallas Cowboys, who came off of their win against uh the comeback win over the Philadelphia Eagles. And that game begins at 1.30 Pacific. By the way, just and I know I talked about this yesterday a little bit, but the Packers coming off of a win. They beat the Minnesota Vikings, who were just very disappointing. And then the Lions pulled one out at the end, too, as they were able to come back and beat the Giants. Then in the third game, you have the Cincinnati Bengals. Joe Burrow will be back at quarterback, replacing Joe Flacco, the veteran. Both are veterans now, but Flacco's been around a long time against the suddenly healthier, surging, I guess, at least win-wise. Still not the slickest team on the field, but the Baltimore Ravens, that game's going to be on NBC. That Kansas City Kansas City Dallas game will be on CBS. So if you're a big football fan, hey, there you go. Last night on Monday Night Football, the 49ers were in action taking on the Panthers. And even though the 49ers did try to give this game away, they still prevailed in this game by a score of 20 to 9. As the 49ers stay in the mix. They overcame three Brock Purdy interceptions to beat the Panthers in a dis defensive tilt at uh at Levi Stadium, home of this year's Super Bowl. Five turnovers in this game. But somehow the 49ers did come out on top despite Purdy throwing three interceptions. Three interceptions in the first half. Ooh, that is rough. You know, if you pick off the ball three times in the first half, you should probably most likely win that game. You know, you have to do produce when you pick it up. And a couple of those were down deep into San Francisco territory near the goal line. You know, they were in the red zone. If I saw that right, I was doing my show at the time. But uh Purdy uh threw this in the first half, finished the night 23 at 32, touchdown, three uh, like I said, three interceptions. Christian McCaffrey continues to roll. He was a catalyst for San Francisco. 10240 scrimmage 142 scrimmage yards. He had a touchdown, a rushing touchdown in this one. George Kittle, six catches for 78 yards in the victory. Carolina's offense is inept at best. They never ever got on track. 230 total yards from scrimmage. Bryce Young, this young quarterback. I mean, he looks very young. He was certainly erratic. I mean, 18 to 29 passes, 169 yards, eh. Touchdown, a couple of costly interceptions himself. Yeah, that was a messy, messy game that someone had to win. San Francisco now, 8-4 in the year, Carolina 6-6. Here's the weird thing about it. Yeah, I mean, it was a messy game. I'm sorry, your quarterback throws three interceptions, you got some work to do. But you're winning. And that's eight and four. San Francisco is more in the mix than most people think. Again, it would not surprise me to see them in the playoffs and to be able to beat some teams that are going to be in the playoffs. My team, but anyhow. So congratulations to the 49ers last night on a much needed win. As I finish the show here tonight, I pulled this rare record from my rare 45 collection today. And this song, I remember when this was on the radio all the time. Same song, both sides. Let me see. You know, it's in, I'm not gonna say it's in stellar uh mint condition, but it's in really good condition. It just looks like a record. It got played numerous times, put back in the sleeve, but is still in excellent condition. This is on Big Tree Records. White label stereo, not for sale, but again, because again, this is a record. I mean, this is a DJ promo record. Says right there, promotion copy, not for sale. Big Tree Records. Got a little star on it. Now on the flip side, it does have a radio sticker, just like an orange dot sticker. It's been on there since 1972. September 7th, 1972, to be exact, as I'm just now seeing the radio station stamp, like they use the stamp thing to stamp the label, label. Uh, and then there's another orange sticker on there that says 38. So it's been in this record sleeve since 1972. Like I say, I remember this being on the radio all the time. Song by an American singer-songwriter with one name. Let's see if you can guess who it is. One name. Released in September 72. See, there that's the sticker right there. It was the second single from his second album of a simple man. This was this artist's highest charting hit on the Billboard Hot 100. It spent two weeks there at uh number two in November. Uh the single was the second of four of his songs to hit number one on the easy listening chart. It had a one-week stay at that top spot, December of '72, and it became a gold record. When it was released in the United Kingdom in 72, it failed to reach the UK singles chart. However, a re-release of the single in 74, same song on the UK record label, peaked at number five. The song also topped the music charts in at least seven nations, including Australia, Canada. In Australia, two weeks at the top, Canada, one week. Germany, it spent 13 weeks at the top from uh in from 1973 to 1974. Yeah, man, this was Hong Kong. It went to number one, New Zealand, number one, Singapore number one, South Africa, Switzerland, like I mentioned, the US, Zimbabwe. This song was number one in Zimbabwe, Austria, number five in Denmark, number seven in Ireland, number eight in Italy, Malaysia. It was it went to six, number seven in Mexico. Man, you talk about a record that everyone seemed to love this. Well, why not I why not play it? It's the same song on both sides. From 1972, this is a song by Lobo. It's called I Love You To Want Me. Pat's Peeps 367.
SPEAKER_09:When I saw you standing there about fellow matching. And when you moved your mouth to speak, I felt the blood go to my feet. Now it took time for me to know. What you tried so not to show something in my soul just cry I see the one in your blue eye. I love you the one. The way that I want you The way that it should be the one you want you.
SPEAKER_05:Of course I always have to say it, I don't own this music.
SPEAKER_09:You told yourself years ago.
SPEAKER_05:It's critiquing the music, right? Exposing the music, educating about the music. Always have to say that.
SPEAKER_09:The obligation that you made for the time that they gave.
SPEAKER_05:Thank you for listening to my podcast. Hope you'll listen to my show tonight. Seven to ten p.m. There's no football games on, so join me. Happy Tuesday, we'll see you on the radio.
