SPEAKER_05:

Good morning. It's the Pat's Peeps Podcast. How are you? By the way, my name is Pat. Thank you. Thank you for listening on a Thursday. It's the first day of the year, my friends. It's the first day of what I expect, and I hope you do too, to be a great year. Can all hope and pray that that is the case, but I have a good feeling about it. And uh here we are at Pat's Peeps number 378. Thank you so much. Where's my little pee pat? 378. That's right, friends. And I am so happy and appreciative of you. I was gonna get my yodeling pickle, but I left it in the uh in my in a bag in the in the car with a couple of other things. And I so I it's in my trunk and it's pouring down rain as I look out my studio window into the beautiful foothills of Northern California, day one of 2026. So I'm not gonna run out there right now and grab. And plus, it's probably annoying, but I love it. I love the the yodeling pickle. It'll make its triumphant return. Thank you. Thank you so much. Anyhow, you can't beat good yodeling, particularly when it's from a pickle. So I hope your your new year's gotten off to a great start. By the way, my name is Pat Walsh, and I'm the host of also my radio show, the Pat Walsh Show, which we're on KPK, Monday through Friday, 7 to 10 p.m. 93.1 FM, 15.30 a.m. But I'm on vacation and I wanted to be fairly consistent in my podcast while my talk show is um is on vacation. They're playing the best of right now on my show. It's interesting. I cannot listen. You know, I can always I always hear people say, you know, they come on Johnny Carson in one of these these TV talk shows, or they'd be on a radio talk show and somebody would be interviewing them about their latest movie or what have you. And they would ask them, you know, do you do you go but do you watch the movies that you're in? Do you watch the TV shows? A lot of people don't don't. And I kind of get that now because I I don't know, I don't go back and listen to myself. It's just awkward. I'll check in once in a while. As soon as I hear me, I'm like, okay, uh, I remember doing this, but uh so that's why we have the peeps while I'm on vacation, so we can have a show that's fresh. And you know, I do it that day. And uh I want to say thank you because I've noticed since I've been on vacation so many of you, and even more people are listening. So I miss you too. You know that? I miss you too. I'll be back on Monday night, and uh yeah, well, it'll be a blessed new year. Blessings to you and your family, okay? You know, a couple of things I did yesterday in a moment, but uh yeah, it just hit me because I'm seeing this more and more, to be completely honest with you. And you know, look, I'm no prude, I'm not uh I don't think listening to this you would even think I would be, but I'm just saying I just for to note, you know, I don't I just make observations. It's just the yeah, I'm sure many of you do the same thing. A lot of times I'll I'll hear people say, you know, I'm a people watcher. I observe, and I do that. And I I don't think you can really help but to do that. And so yesterday I'm out and uh and I made a stop at the store. And this is what I I just took notice of what I was seeing yesterday, but I've seen this a lot. So without further ado, I'm out and about, see, and I make the observation. And I said, well, let me do my podcast. We'll start here. I could have done a four-part podcast yesterday from all of the places in the local businesses that I visited here on the last day of the year. I wanted to pay attention to local business, so I visited several and had these everywhere I went, I had these incredible conversations, and we'll get to more of that. But anyhow, this was my first stop. And I'll just let it speak for itself here. Last day of the year, 2025.

SPEAKER_04:

Here we go.

SPEAKER_05:

Okay, so I'm walking around. This is unbelievable. So they decided going to Trader Joe's today.

SPEAKER_04:

So at Trader Joe's over a Marconi.

SPEAKER_05:

And I gotta tell you what. Listen, I I don't know what's happening with American society. Look at right in front of me. Uh I don't understand why. I'm looking right now, okay? I'm at the checkout fines. There's one dude with long hair, there's another dude with completely buzzed off hair, there's a woman right directly in front of me. These are all right in front of me. Three people. They don't even know each other. Four people, there's another one in the next one, and they're just wearing their pajamas. This is unbelievable. This means we have literally seemingly given up. We simply do not care anymore what we look like when we go out. It is absolutely amazing to me. I mean, I cannot, for the life of me, imagine going out in public in my pajamas. What are we doing?

SPEAKER_00:

Some people. Some people. Some people not that's drifty-down. Some people do it. Some drive to it. Somewhere pajama. Pajama people are born in the Feel like I am wasting my time. They all got the plan on the top.

SPEAKER_01:

Pajama people. Pajama people. They want to make a statement with the flames that might stay. Pajama people, Frank Sampa, baby. Pajama people, people. Mother marry the dota. I'm gonna stay all go away. Pajama people. Thank you for making my statement for me, Frank. Pajama people's fence. That's right, Frank. Take one home with you. Save a dollar today. Pajama people. Yeah, come on now. Pajama people, people.

SPEAKER_05:

Get 'em out of my way. This is what I loved about Frank. He'd observe as well. He'd take those observations and put them into his music. Pajama people are boring me to pieces. Disco boy. I wasn't sorry, I was not a disco dude. Like, we got a couple of tunes here and there. That's about it. But I wasn't angel flights and disco stuff. And I'd poke funny. You know, remember disco sucks? I still have that shirt. Still mean it. And uh, so I hear Frank singing about disco guy, disco boys. It sold me on Frank. And pajama people. He's speaking my language there. Come on now. Feel free to get up and put on some britches, brother. No one wants to see. And it's always these checkered pajamas. Like they're so cool. I got I've got the red checkered, I've got the green checkered, I've got the, you know, the orange checkered. Black and black checkered pajamas. Oi, oi, oi. You gotta hear Frank's guitar. You know, Frank, just to go off on a tangent here. Frank is one of the ultimate guitar players, in my opinion. So with that, I'll stretch until Frank decides he's gonna get into his guitar and give you a little example. So of course, the other thing is last night Wednesday New Year's Day. Hello to the shout out to the wild iris. We're helping Rosh Limba put Rio Linda back on the map. It's my mission for 2026. Uh, Rio Linda, ladies and gentlemen. Salute! Am I down on hee-haw? Anyway, Frank Zappa from Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention. One size fits all. That's a great album, by the way. That's got Andy on it. That's got um San Bernardino. That's a great dark green hair and you can joke all day. Thank you, Frank. Love you. And again, the wild iron is a great people. Some loud music playing. And stayed sober. Which was a great thing, and we still had a blast. No hangover either, right? Forget about that stuff, man. When I bought a frog pond. Because I was told by Gail that people get crazy. But we're thinking, well, you know what? I just got some dogs, and I'm thinking, well, it's raining, it's cold, maybe this won't happen. You gotta sort of tranquilize your dogs. Because they get freaked out. So, with that in mind, I thought I would share with you some of the ambiance noise from last night. Standing by the frog pond. You don't hear the frogs. I think the frogs were scared. But some of the noise, as we lead up to midnight, and as people decide, I was told, well, it speaks for itself.

SPEAKER_04:

Alright. It's not even midnight. And we're out here waiting. And listen already, listen to this. So as I understand it, it's 1156. I need to see. Oh, is that lightning? Oh, it's lightning. Is that fireworks? So we're about to see. Or we're about to hear, I guess. And see. What I understand is kind of crazy. Guns and what? Fireworks and what have you.

SPEAKER_05:

By the way, this is. So we're gonna see if it's as crazy as I hear. Near a frog pond in Rio Linda. Imagine. Happy New Year to you. Go Rio Linda. Listening. Happy New Year. Rio Linda to you, Gail.

unknown:

Happy New Year, Pat.

SPEAKER_04:

We're just out here waiting to see, so we're at about 1157. And the thing is, is that you know, people are out here and they're and it's raining. So we don't know how many gunshots or fireworks or whatever we're gonna hear tonight, but Gail will tell you that it scares dogs pretty bad out here, right?

SPEAKER_02:

Oh yeah. Yeah, it's horrible for the dogs. Gotta give them medicine to keep them calm. But some people don't when they leave them outside.

SPEAKER_04:

So Yeah. Oh, so we're starting to hear it now. So yeah, I mean, I feel bad for the dogs. It scares them.

SPEAKER_02:

They don't know what's happening. I'm not sure what's going on. Our dogs are in the house. What the kids?

SPEAKER_03:

It's cold. Yeah, you give them a you gotta keep them calm, right? You have to keep them calm.

SPEAKER_04:

So uh what are we about? One minute to go.

SPEAKER_02:

Up in the distance.

SPEAKER_04:

It's cold and wet, and you can hear it already in the distance. Yeah, listen to that. I'll let you know when it we'll let you know when it's midnight. But you can hear it.

SPEAKER_02:

It sounds like a war.

SPEAKER_04:

Yeah. And it's cold and it's damp outside. So this'll be very interesting. Or less than a minute, whatever it is. To 2026. It's gonna be a great 2026. Here we go.

SPEAKER_02:

A lot of guns out here.

SPEAKER_04:

It's New Year's. Listen to this.

SPEAKER_05:

You're right, it sounds like Beirut.

SPEAKER_10:

Look out there.

SPEAKER_05:

Skies are all lit up everywhere. Wow. That was huge. Lit up the sky bright red and pink. I mean you everywhere you look, all around, out in the country here, it's just every single direction.

SPEAKER_02:

This is not in the distance. Hear it way off in the distance.

SPEAKER_10:

Hear the cowbell? Yeah.

unknown:

Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding.

SPEAKER_02:

Look at the sky. The sky is just lighting up with all the It's just flashing.

SPEAKER_04:

It's just like a strobe. Strobe strobe light in the sky. There's something fireworks and guns going on.

SPEAKER_10:

It's like surround sound.

SPEAKER_04:

Wherever you are, hope you're having a great start to the new year here.

SPEAKER_02:

Where's my whistle? Where is your whistle?

SPEAKER_10:

I don't know.

SPEAKER_04:

God, the sky is just lighting up. It's just flashing. It's pretty amazing to see this. It's just as far as you can hear off in the distance. Huge bones.

SPEAKER_02:

Way, way out, like miles away.

SPEAKER_04:

Well, that's how it sounds out here in the country. Cold gray, night, fireworks, and guns and all kinds of stuff exploding out there.

SPEAKER_05:

Happy New Year to ya. Don't get hurt tonight now. Be careful. If you're out there driving, whatever. I mean, you won't hear this till tomorrow. Oh, there you go. Did you hear that? You hear that? That was certainly a gun. That was a gun.

SPEAKER_04:

Granny, you shooting that gun again? Yep. Alright, we're gonna go out the other side. I'll look out the other side here.

SPEAKER_05:

Alright, let's go to the other side here. Oh, we're ahead then. Little Lennon interlude.

SPEAKER_04:

Okay, we're gonna go out to the front. See how this sounds. You can see the little puffs of smoke in the air up there. Black smoke, puffs. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

Miles and miles.

SPEAKER_04:

Can only imagine what it's like on the 4th of July.

SPEAKER_10:

Oh. Way, way more.

SPEAKER_04:

It's just from every direction.

SPEAKER_02:

It's starting to rain harder.

SPEAKER_04:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

Oh

SPEAKER_04:

It doesn't matter that it's rain and nothing. They're gonna go on out there. It doesn't matter that it's cold. I guess we should light our sparklers, huh? Our little fountain.

SPEAKER_05:

That was the night. That was the night. 25 and 2026. Real Linda style, ladies and gentlemen. Real Linda style. There you go. Wow. So happy New Year to ya. Let's get it started off right. I was watching a John Gruden little video that came across and he's like, hey, we love ya. We love you. Look, I think he was with his wife. We love you. Um remember, you got goals, get them started. Don't put them off. Get them started. Right on, man. Hopefully you kept your some of your New Year's resolutions from last year and were successful in that. Perhaps you have new ones. Maybe you don't set New Year's resolutions. Maybe you've, you know, maybe there's yeah, who knows? But whatever it is, you know, good luck to you in 2026. You know, today I thought, uh, so as I pulled these, uh, I told you yesterday that I uh took uh I took four records from my record shows that were very interesting. And I decided to play this one today because it's it's a good positive one to begin 2026. And as I look at it, I you know, many of these were plucked from an old um from a radio station. I've told you this in the past, and they had this huge collection of records, and I got a ton of them. But I also had my own records prior to that, and this looks like this was one of my records that I had purchased myself and did not inherit from this radio station. So this one, I I always like this song. I like it. It's the label is on MCA. This is not a promo copy like all the other ones that I read for you. The really rare, but it is in really good condition, I have to say. Man, I took care of this. That is in really nice condition. I'm gonna pull it out of the sleeve here. But what I wanted to do, I wanted to mention a little bit about it. And then I'm gonna, because this has a flip side. So I thought I'd play the flip side and see if you can guess who it is. I don't remember what the flip side was like on this. I mean, again, it's been a long time since I played this. 1981. It's a song by an American rock musician from his 1981 album, King Cool. And it was released as the second single from his second album. I remember the other hit that he had on this record, the first one he had on this record, got played on the air all the time. But this one got played for a while too. And I like this one better. Uh, this one went to number 37 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart, went to number nine on the U.S. Billboard mainstream rock tracks chart, also recorded by Slade on their 1987 album, You Boys Make Big Noise. With a Z, by the way. Boys and Noise. It is often used by the Slippery Rock University University of Pennsylvania band during football games because this artist attended Slippery Rock U back in the early 60s. I always loved the name of that college, Slippery Rock University University. The song was a jam. The group went into the studio. Marty Lee, our guitar player, came up with this riff. We just kind of built around that riff, put the instrumentals down, that's all we had. We just had what we thought was a good track, guitar, bass drums. Then Mark and I say, we're in the studio, we listen to the song, wrote the lyrics around a track, and that is basically what we do with most of the stuff we've been writing nowadays. We just go with a nice rhythm track of guitars, bass drums, keyboard, whatever, and come up with what we think is a nice piece of music. And then Mark takes the tune home, writes a lyric for it, and then together we work on the harmonies and the background vocals and the melodies, things like that. But this song, he said, he said he sat in the studio listening to the rhythm track. He says, I think Mark's idea to come up with the title of it and the lyric, and then together we just wrote lines that rhyme. Well, that sounds logical. Before I get to it, let me play the flip side. See if you can guess who it is. This is the flip side, it's called Agnes.

SPEAKER_07:

We were standing on a corner one night, me and Agnes. She had these tight jeans on. Uh shoes. Man. It was a warm September night. Winds going through the trees. Let's do a little for a fight. He knocked me down with his mic. He would have gone up to my head. Stay away from her or you'll be dead.

SPEAKER_05:

Wow. Shees. Alright.

SPEAKER_07:

Don't you ever see that girl, he said.

SPEAKER_05:

Agnes must have really been something, huh?

SPEAKER_07:

Agnes was no way to set up a Louis said she'd never go too far. Louis didn't see her in my car.

unknown:

Louis didn't see her in my car. After that fight at Louis Bar.

SPEAKER_05:

Now that had a little ELO right there, didn't I? Right there.

SPEAKER_08:

There's been some talk about it.

SPEAKER_05:

Wow, okay. So what was the base the main song with that big groove? The hit that came off of this? Well, going back to 1981, buddy. Here on Pat's Peeps 378, it's Donnie Iris. Love is like a rock. Remember this one?

SPEAKER_06:

Oh you can't be paying on the freehoo. You can't be pen.

SPEAKER_05:

I'm gonna go high. Thank you for listening. Happy New Year! Yeah, buddy. It's the Pat's Peeps Podcast. Keep listening, and then on Monday the fifth, I'll see you back on the radio.
