Ep. 384 Today's Peep Includes A Salute to KRAK... Country Memories, Credits Whack? Call Mack as well as other "Sponsors" Plus Listener Feedback Unlocks My Personal Childhood Concert Memory
Oh my wah, baby, oh yeah!
SPEAKER_09:Hello. Hey, happy Thursday to you. That's the Fats Peeps Podcast. Thank you for being part of our ever-growing audience as I continue. On my way to 400 Podcasts, we're at 384 at this point. It is a Thursday. Hey, it's January 15th, 2026. And as I look out my studio window into the beautiful foothills of Northern California today, it's a beautiful sunny day. It's actually, you know, lukewarm. It's nice. It's a just a gorgeous day. So wherever you are, thank you for listening to my podcast. I and if you're driving in your car right now, listening, thank you. Thank you very much. Whatever you're doing. Yeah, some people walk. Hi, Georgia. Georgia walks. Some of you I get people all the time, you know, I'm I'm working out, I'm listening to it, or I'm driving, whatever. Wherever you're doing, thank you. Oh, Denise was telling me yesterday, sent me a message saying that she listens to me in the morning when she's working out of the gym. So thank you, Denise. Again to all of you. So please support local businesses. I always ask you to do that. Please check out my PatSPeeps.com. It's just patspeeps.com. We're building it and um Yeah, I'm gonna leave it at that for now. I have a big meeting about this today, so I can unveil my 2026 news to you. I know it's a tease for like a month now. Anyhow, uh my name is Pat Walsh. I am the host of the Pat Walsh show, as heard on KFPK Radio, Sacramento, 93.1 FM, 1530 a.m., 7 to 10 p.m., Monday through Friday. Home of such talent is Rush Limbaugh. El Rushbo. Tom Sullivan, of course. Morton Downey Jr. The KPK has a you know, it's a long history. A lot of big uh radio stars came from there. I mean, hey, I'm not saying I'm one, I'm just saying I work there, you know what I mean? Of a daily show. We're going on 13 years of the radio show. So, again, and we're going on what two plus years with a podcast. You ever notice because I I I needed to do I got I have to do the podcast. I want to be consistent, but I also have to work out, but I also have to do all of these other things. Do you ever notice that the more you do? Oh, listen, the train's coming by. I'm gonna listen to this, check it out. See if you can hear that. That's the Amtrak version. It's not quite as cool sounding as the choo-choo freight train version. Anyhow, you ever notice the more you do, at least in my world, the more I try to accomplish, the more I realize I have to do. Like I can never get it all cleared off. I can never get to the point where I'm okay, I did this, I did this. I think that's it. Nope. I clear off, and all I've been doing for the last several days is just clearing up as many things as I can. I tend to this and this and this, you know, accomplish this, this, this, get it off my plate, and still my plate's full. It's amazing. I also wanted to say, you know, and I addressed this on the Pat's on the Pat Walsh uh fan group page on Facebook, and I did mention it on my show last night as I got a message from one of you that said, Hey Pat, you know, it's uh really um not fair that this AI generated these AI generated questions pop up on the Pat Walsh fan group on Facebook, and um, you know, there's over 3,000 members on in this fan group, and you know, heck, it'd be nice if you came in sometime and you know started a conversation or this and that. And I addressed it on my show, and here's what I want to say about that, and I and again I also addressed it, like I said, on Facebook. But that, you know, that first of all, I don't want you to get sick of me, man. I you know, I do a uh a podcast almost daily, almost daily. Most people don't do that. I do a show most days, so that's two shows a day. I just don't want I just don't want you to get tired of me. And it's the other part of that is I always saw that as uh a page for the fans that I am blessed to have, the you know, the audience that those of you who listen to my shows to talk amongst yourself. And I love to read what you guys have to say. I'd love to see more people post there. I see there's a lot of members. Darlene with a Y, she is the queen of posting on that page. I don't know if there's a setting that's not turned on where other people can't post. I really don't know. Darlene, if you're listening, maybe you want to check that out. But but but so I popped in there last night and I got a great response. I said, well, you know what I'd like to do, if y'all don't mind, I like to pop in and say hi once in a while. And man, I got a really nice, I got really nice feedback from that. Nice comment. So thank you. So I'll do that. I was just kind of leaving it to you because again, it's your page, and I'm honored that it would even exist. So I will pop in and say hi then. So thank you. Again. You know, like I said, uh, the other thing is I am trying to find time to do everything. I don't know about you, but I'm I I need to find time to work out. That's one thing. You know, you you you get so busy, but you have to have time to work out. So, I'm trying to do that, I'm trying to do some weights. I'm gonna have to go to physical therapy. I've got bursitis. I've got burse dang bursitis! The enlargement of the bursa sac. Anyhow, I've got to go to physical therapy. It's actually kind of getting better. I've been dealing with this for a few months, unfortunately. During a day, everything's cool, but when I try to relax, sit back, or lay down, it's when it hurts. So they could do wonderful things in physical therapy. So I'm doing that, but at the same time, you know, I am trying to work out a little bit, doing the things that I can do. And so I'm gonna go for a walk when I'm done with this. Maybe do a little jogging, and um, and I've been doing some other weight lifting that does not involve hurting myself. So it was the chair push-ups, I tell you. I was getting up to like 300 chair push-ups a day, and uh for whatever reason I must have done them wrong. Not 300 consecutive, by the way. I'm not that much of a stud. Break them up into units of whatever you can handle at the time, but it was right around there until I hurt myself. And that just, you know, it just stops you in your tracks. So that, and combined with the fact that I am being influenced to eat correctly, not just by Gail, but by you know, my doctor, and so I have been eating, as I mentioned, I think, on a previous podcast, high fiber, you know, um salads, spinach, baby spinach with just, you know, with veggies, good stuff, avocados and things. Try to cut down on the triglycerides. And you know what? I use that apostat that I learned about when I was in in France, which is essentially whatever you're eating, I mean, when you're eating, I should say, not whatever, but when you are eating, hopefully it's a healthy meal, a smaller portion. Well, you should have a smaller portion because, and it should be healthy, because whatever it is, if let's say it's a salad versus you know a hamburger that's not healthy, it takes about 20 minutes, they say, for your stomach to tell your brain, oh, you're full. We've had some food. So you're supposed to eat slowly, chew your food, blah, blah, blah, whatever. But and so I try to do that, and I'm eating this really healthy salad, not flooding it with really bad dressing. It's uh, you know, as I mentioned, balsamic and and olive oil. And it lasts for a while, but and then you're not supposed to eat after what, five o'clock. That's where I'm struggling. Now, I've only been doing this for a few days, but man, it's hard. So, what I find is, first of all, certainly you can't starve yourself, so you can't only eat that. So, maybe some of you have some alternatives, maybe you have some ideas you can share with me. Like I'm looking at salmon. As much as I love it, I cannot find the wild sockeye salmon. I don't know how good farm raised is. Maybe, again, maybe some of you know better than I do, but I always hear that the wild sockeye salmon is the best for you. For those nutrients and oils and what have you. So, yeah, so I'm trying to do that, but I'm looking for things that because again, you're gonna starve yourself. And it's just almost too too much fiber at some point. Your stomach starts, your tummy starts to hurt. By the way, I've got a I've got a really cool listener content thing I want to get to today. And as you know, you know, we are always supported by great businesses. And with that in mind, you know, today I just wanted to thank if your credit is whack, for instance, call Mac.
SPEAKER_03:Call Mac Mac if your credit is whack, right? I got short money, but I need some wheels.
SPEAKER_06:Call Mac Mac, he got easy deals. Get down with the Dominican.
SPEAKER_03:I'm riding in a hooty Abbey.
SPEAKER_05:Check Mac Mac, he don't sweat a credit rate.
SPEAKER_06:MacMack got back.

SPEAKER_09:What's the name of your place?
SPEAKER_05:We buy golf clubs. Is it called what? We buy golf clubs.
SPEAKER_09:Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_05:We buy golf clubs.
SPEAKER_09:Do you buy golf clubs though? You know, if you're not selling your golf clubs, maybe you've sold your golf clubs. You know, it's a long drive over to Mike's golf shop, you're getting hungry. Go visit our friends here on Pat's Peeps that they're making the pizza, baby.
SPEAKER_00:Making the pizza, making the pizza. Sprinkle the cheese. Sprinkle the cheese. Hey, if you're looking for the best pizza wing subs and salads, you need to give us a try. Eat and take out or deliver to your door. The huge line of specialty pizzas is second and none. And with three different restaurants to choose from. That's right, three. SPEAKER_09:I use the gang mill store.
SPEAKER_00:Making the pizza. Making the pizza. So stop on down to one of three great locations or call us up to let our crews hook you up.
SPEAKER_09:You know, after you're done making the pizza, and maybe you're thinking of uh well, what can I do for like my kids' party? I got a kid's birthday party coming up, something like that. Maybe you have a special event. I hear that I hear another train in the background. Can you hear this? One's a freight train. Listen. That's a little further away. Maybe you have a special event. Company function. You know, and you're booking the the um the talent. Maybe there's talent's gonna show up. I highly recommend you just go tell the hip-hop magician uh that Pat Wall said hi. Would you do that for more?
SPEAKER_06:I'm the hip-hop magician old magic. I'm who the celebrities call for their kids' birthday parties. We have magic shows, balloon animals, games for kids, popcorn machines, high candy machines, and bouncing castles!
SPEAKER_09:Honey, did you call the hip-hop magician? Yes, dear.
SPEAKER_06:Who's your favorite uncle?
SPEAKER_09:Yeah. Um. Another great place you want to visit. Local. You know, if you're if you if you're facing credit problems, but you're looking for furniture, please stop by. Say hi to Morton's furniture.
SPEAKER_01:Those for people that have credit problems. Morton furniture is here for you. Now, seriously, if you can't get credit in my store. Seriously? You can't get credit anywhere. My name is Mark. You can count on it.
SPEAKER_09:6060 here in the new year, you might want to take the family over to the the uh Chinastar Banquet Room.
SPEAKER_04:I like the beef food the best, but he likes the chicken. He's right, I like the chicken. I just love them aggro.
SPEAKER_01:Spicy beef.
SPEAKER_03:China Star Banquet Room, it's beef. Beat it up, beat it up, shove it in, shove it in, China Star.
SPEAKER_09:That's right. Um man, there's no better place. You'll be in no better mood ever once you get into a horrific car accident than the arrowhead clinic.
SPEAKER_02:Real man, makes the arrowhead clinic. I got treated real faith. So don't waste another minute. 770961 pain. Seven seven zero nine six one pain. If you've been injured in the car wreck and in need of a check down. If you ask, they can recommend a lawyer to get what you deserve.
SPEAKER_09:If you're looking for any of those types of businesses. You know, I always love the listener content. And as I was looking through, do you hear that bird? Can you hear that bird back there? It's so beautiful out. Listen. Sixty-four days until spring. My favorite time of the year. Thank you to Darlene with a Y for that little bit of knowledge. He hear that little bird. This one was really cool. When I found this listener content, I couldn't believe it. Who is this from? This is from Ken. Ken, you guys are always sending me great stuff. But this one really took me back. This was very near and dear to my heart. Man, there now, of all of the records that I have, now that's one I do not have. So Ken. And man, Ken, you got a great record collection too, brother. And yes, I He says, Spy the big pink Floyd box set on the top shelf. Oh yeah, nice! So this one here is near and dear to me in two ways. And that is that I saw this artist. My mother took me to see this artist, and he either opened up, he either opened up for Glenn Campbell or he opened up for Roy Clark. I think it was probably Glenn Campbell at the Sacramento Memorial Auditorium, and I was just a little kid. Sonny James was a country singer. Now, at the same time, mi madre, my ma, she listened to K-R-A-K Country Memories, radio station in Sacramento. Tell them Ola Louise sent you. Tell them Okie Paul and Ola Louise sent you. Anyone remember Okie Paul and Ola Louise on the crack corral of Country Hits? And my mom used to sing. She was a singer with Dennis Barney and the Nashville Rebels, who were also associated with K-R-A-K, Country Memories. And she would practice in the living room and she'd wear a blue cowboy hat and she'd say, Patrick, come out here and um pretend like you're playing the guitar. Oh my! So I'd go out into the sunken living room on West Holm Way in Valley High, South Sac. I'd go into the sunken living room where my mother would be practicing her country music and pretend like I'm playing guitar. You know, I'm probably 10, 11, 12, you know, years old. It was kind of it was funny. God, I love you, Ma. So this combines Sonny James and K-R-A-K, who I had no idea did Sonny did this. It's a tribute to Crack Radio. Salute to Crack, Sonny James. Now think about that. Can you imagine doing that now? Yes, I've got a new record out. Oh yeah, what's it called? Well, it's called salute to crack. Oh yeah, thank you. Thank you so much. I mean a whole different thing today. So, Ken, thank you for this. Thank you, lady. Without further ado, Sonny James, salute to KRAK.
SPEAKER_07:We're gonna stay that way. Sacramento.
SPEAKER_09:Wow. Wow. Thank you so much, Ken. That is priceless. You know, as I was listening to that, I thought, well, let me check on that show. Because I mentioned Crack Radio, Sonny James, and that he either played with Glenn Campbell or Roy Clark. You know, online, the the the it's amazing what you can find online. And check this out. I'm just looking at this for the first time as we talk about. Yes, Sonny James and Glenn Campbell performed together in Sacramento at the Sacramento Memorial Auditorium in November of 1967. So I was seven. James headlining a country show. So it was Sonny James headlined that show. He didn't open up. He was the headliner. Oh my God, what? Wow, this is blowing my mind. Featuring Glenn Campbell, so Sonny James the headliner. Glenn Campbell is a supporting act, alongside Tex Ritter, Lynn Anderson. Oh my God. I beg your pardon. I never promised you a rose guard. She lived in Sacramento for a while. And others. Offering a snapshot of the airest country music scene in Sacramento. Sunday, November 26, 1967. Wow. Consider my mind blown. Sonny James and the Southern Gentleman. Supporting acts, Glenn Campbell, Text Ritter, Lynn Anderson, the Gosden Brothers, and Ronnie Sessions, and the sponsor, KRAK, Crack Radio. The event showcased rising country stars with Campbell already gaining traction and James a major draw with KRAK giving away records of a James song dedicated to Sacramento. That was that song. Okay. Wow. Alright. Man, that is just such a pleasant surprise to me right there. I can't even tell you. Now it makes me wonder because right about that time, Glenn Campbell, as it said, was starting to surge. When was his first hit? It was right about that time. Like Wichita Linemen or Gentle 1967. The same year. Glenn Campbell's first significant pop hit was Gentle on My Mind in 1967, which launched his solo career, won him Grammy Awards. He had earlier charting singles like Universal Soldier, Turnaround, Look at Me, The Green River Boys, Kentucky Means Paradise. Those were the early 60s. But but those songs were not hugely popular in terms of, you know, I'm like the like Gentle on My Mind or Wichita Lineman or By the Time I Get to Phoenix. That is just awesome, man. I can't I have to now I'm gonna have to talk about that on my show. I'm gonna have to bring it up on my show. Concerts that you're glad you went to, you're so glad you were there. Boy, am I glad I was there.
SPEAKER_08:It's knowing that your door is always open and your path is free to walk. That makes me tend to leave my sleeping bag rolled up and stashed behind your couch. And it's knowing I'm not shackled by forgotten words and bonds, and the ink stains that are dried upon some lines.
SPEAKER_09:The song was written by John Hartford, which is another great memory.
SPEAKER_08:For me by the rivers of my memory, it keeps you ever gentle on my mind.
SPEAKER_09:John Hartford, also rest in peace. Glenn Campbell as well.
SPEAKER_08:It's not clinging to the rocks and ivy planted on their columns now that find me. Are something that somebody said because they thought we fit together walking.
SPEAKER_09:Saw John Hartford in a meadow in Yosemite.
SPEAKER_08:It's just knowing that the world will not be cursing or forgiving when I walk along some railroad track and find that you're moving on the back roads by the rivers of my memory. And for hours you're just gentle on my memory.
SPEAKER_09:What a beautiful song. I remember seeing this, that and that. I just remember it so well. John Hartford danced in a top hat with a vest on, with a fiddle around a meadow. And everyone followed him. You know how they do those, like the train behind him, you know, where they just kind of dance behind him. It was awesome on a sunny day. Again, I don't own the rights to this.
SPEAKER_08:But not to where I cannot see you.
SPEAKER_09:I want to say thank you so much for listening. That was that was one of the more fun experiences for me on here because I I just found something up. So cool. Great memory. You have a beautiful Thursday.
SPEAKER_08:My beard are roughening.
SPEAKER_09:See you on the radio.
SPEAKER_08:Through cupped hands round the tin can, I pretend to hold you to my breast and fine. Now you're awakened from the back roads by the rivers of my memories. Ever smiling, never gentle on my mind.
