Ep. 389 Today's Peep Counts Down The Best Day Of The Week from Least to Most Loved with a surprise twist - Why Friday Feels Magical and Tuesday Gets No Love, A Joyful Musical Tour of the Week
Sunshine in the foothills, fog in the valley, and that unmistakable Friday lift—this conversation starts with a simple feeling and turns into a full tour of the week. We ask a deceptively big question: once you retire, do weekends still matter, or do Saturday and Sunday lose their magic when every day is open? From there, we map the emotional arc of the week, mixing personal stories, listener-friendly research, and a soundtrack for each day that makes the calendar sing.
We count down the days from least to most loved, with a surprise twist: Tuesday often lands at the bottom. It’s not dramatic like Monday or symbolic like Wednesday—just a quiet grind before the reward feels close. Monday brings the cultural weight you’d expect, with anthems that capture the jolt from leisure to responsibility. Thursday holds that restless “almost there” energy, while Sunday plays both sides—peace, church, football, and the whisper of Monday in the back of your mind. Music ties it all together: from the Boomtown Rats and the Bangles to Simon & Garfunkel and Johnny Cash, the songs turn rankings into lived experience.
Then Friday hits with payday optimism and pop perfection—yes, we spin through “Friday I’m in Love”—before Saturday takes the crown. Saturday stands for freedom without immediate cost: late mornings, open roads, bright guitars, and plans that breathe. We celebrate the joy of a day that invites you to be fully off the clock, even as we keep space for gratitude and those who aren’t feeling their best. The takeaway is practical and personal: days aren’t fixed; they’re designable. If Tuesday drags, change Tuesday. If Sunday brings dread, give it a ritual that fills your tank.
If this episode brightened your week, follow the show, share it with a friend who needs a better Tuesday, and leave a quick review. Your support helps us keep the music playing and the conversations rolling.
Happy Friday. Happy Friday to you. Hey, it is the Pat's Peeps Podcast. Here we are again, number 389, approaching 400 podcasts. Very proud of that. Thank you. I'm proud of the fact that we have an ever-growing audience. I'm so happy that it is Friday. I looked out my studio window into the beautiful foothills of Northern California where the sun is shining. And I'm hearing from people once again down in the valley. Hate to beat the dead horse, but my God, the Thule fog. For those of you who are in the central or um Sacramento Valley, man, it's just it's relentless fog. But up here in the sunshine, buddy, I'm so happy. As I look out my studio window into the beautiful foothills, I mean the daffodils are coming up like I was telling you. The sun is shining. And um, yeah, by the way, I'm the host of the Pat Wall Show as heard on KFPK Radio in Sacramento. 93.1 FM, 1530 a.m. Yeah, they're socked in with the with the Thule fog as well. You know, I am very happy that it is a Friday. I get excited. You know, it occurred to me today here on Pat's Peeps 389 that you know when when in and I do this on my show too. I say, well, happy whatever day of the week it is. And for many of us, the closer we get to the weekend, the better we feel. Because we have a couple of days off. I mean, that's assuming that you have the weekends off. Not everyone has the weekends off. For others, maybe you get a couple of days off in the middle of the week, whatever it is. I'm sure that leading up to those days off, you probably are anticipating it. You're like, oh man, all right, I get a couple of days off, a couple of more days. So it's very meaningful, but uh it but it did occur to me, and I was wondering if you know, when you retire, someday I'll retire. I don't really plan on it anytime soon, but I know people who retire, and I just wonder if once you retire, and let's assume again, for sake of the conversation, that you had weekends off. When you retire, does Saturday and Sunday just kind of become just another day? What does it matter? I've had I have any day to do whatever I want. So Saturday and Sunday are just kind of, you know, just another part of my week. I I think that's probably the case. But maybe I'll have to ask that on my show here at some point. But it I do find it interesting. Please remember to check out our PatzPeeps.com, our local businesses and our merchandise. I sure would appreciate that. We've got some nice stuff, it's quality. So, in thinking that through, I started to think about the days of the week. Because even on my show last night, I'm all in a real I'm usually in a good mood on my show. I'm not gonna say 100% of the time. Sometimes you're like, you don't want to be at work, but honestly, I love doing my show, so that's very rare. Because I I'm so blessed to love my job. I'm sure many of you are as well. But you know, even Thursday night, like I was saying last night on my show, it's cool because it's kind of starting to connect to the weekend. Hey, tomorrow's Friday, which means the weekend's almost here. I don't know. And I was thinking, what are is there some kind of a study or a survey or whatever you want to call it, where they have asked people, what are your favorite days of the week? What are the favorite days of the week here in America, for instance? Probably, I don't know if it goes from around the world. But I started doing my research on that, just out of curiosity. I mean, certainly when I think about it, I have my favorite day of the week. Every day that is a day on this beautiful earth is not green, earth is a blessing. No doubt about that. I'll start by saying that. I don't care what day it is, if we are blessed to be here, wow. And if we're healthy. Those of you who are listening who are not healthy, we pray for you, by the way. But let's talk about that for a second. Here's one of the um articles that I found, and they were all very similar, quite frankly. This is from something called the Prompt. And this ranks the days of the week. This came out September 2022. I doubt that anything has changed since then. And certainly, I'm sure this is not the only list. So lists obviously can vary depending on whatever your personal thoughts are, obviously. But I did, I looked at a few of them, and they this one is pretty similar to the other ones that I found. And you might be surprised. And I thought we would have fun. I'll tie it in, because you know I love music. So here on Patch Peeps 389, I thought it'd be kind of fun to tie in. So I started looking up, okay. I wonder which, you know, do all the days of the week have songs about that day. And you're dang right they do. So I'm gonna do that too. So let's start with the least favorite day of the week. As heard this particular article. Now, again, what are you thinking? Are you thinking, oh that's obvious? What is the least favorite day of the week? But it may not be that obvious. Tuesday. That's right, Tuesday. They say it's kind of stuck in there between like Monday and then you know the hump day on Wednesday, it's just kind of lost in there.
SPEAKER_18:I'm just beginning to see. Now I'm on my way. It doesn't matter to me chasing the clouds away.
SPEAKER_11:Yeah, Tuesday. The least favorite uh day of the week, the least popular.
SPEAKER_15:Goodbye, Ruby Tuesday. Who could hang a name on you when you change with every new day? Still I'm gonna miss you.
SPEAKER_11:What a classic you know, when it comes to Tuesdays, and again, you can read other lists and they will tell you the completely opposite that the other day that you're probably thinking of is the most detested day of the week. Tuesday is seen as boring, bland, the start of the week's heavy cognitive load before the weekend feels close. But before you know it, it moves on. So if Tuesday is the least favorite day of the week, what would be the second least favorite day of the week? That would be, of course, Monday, although people will tell you, heck, Monday. It's my least favorite day of the week. Again, depends on who you ask. Some say the most hated day, symbolizing the end of leisure and the start of new responsibilities. Just listen to the words on Monday songs. So good to me, because he thought he was gonna be with her still.
SPEAKER_02:Monday morning. Alas, it was not a Monday morning. Monday morning every day.
SPEAKER_11:Mamas and the papas. Uh no, you can't trust that day. It's not the only one. For instance, the boom town rats.
SPEAKER_09:Tell me why I don't like mon is Tell me why I don't like mon days. Tell me why I don't like mondays. I wanna shoot.
SPEAKER_11:The whole day down Monday songs are kind of brutal at times. I mean if you ask the bangles with this Monday to the bangles, it's a manic Monday on Pat's Peeps 389. It's manic.
SPEAKER_16:I was getting Valentino by the street.
SPEAKER_11:Oh no! Here comes Monday.
SPEAKER_17:These are the days when you wish the bed was already made. It's just another manic Monday. Wish it was Sunday.
SPEAKER_11:Wish it were Sunday, they say. I wonder where that ranks on the list. Hmm. Number six, yeah. Some people would say it's the worst. This particular one says it's the second worst. Others say it's the worst. How about number five, though? Number five on the list. Just when you think that it is Friday. Oh, did I is today Friday? Oh no. It's Thursday. What?
SPEAKER_00:I'm sick of covering her. No. I'm tired of feeling so broken.
SPEAKER_11:It's almost Friday. I mean, doesn't that feel good? That like it's the weekend's in reach.
SPEAKER_00:I'm anxious. Sometimes I'm down on Mondays. Sometimes I try to embrace all my insecurities. So I won't wear makeup on Thursdays.
SPEAKER_11:Ladies and gentlemen, Jim Croce. From the greatest love songs, it's Thursday. Sure is a pretty day outside on a Friday.
SPEAKER_01:But it started out just like a dreamin'. Like a dream, I knew that what we had would have to end. You were looking for a friend.
SPEAKER_04:Someone to be there after all in the time lovers had gone. The way they came. Someone who knew the way to help play daytime game.
SPEAKER_11:I love Jim Croatie's sound. He I love the song too. He doesn't really say Thursdays too much in that song. But that is uh it's a great song called Thursdays from Jim Croche. Coming in coming in, excuse me, number four on the least to the favorite days of the week. This is the day that you're you're loving it for a variety of reasons. You love the day, but unfortunately, at the same time, it's like you know that you're gonna have to go back to work because it is a Sunday. So your last day of freedom. You go to church and all, maybe you do, maybe you don't, but it's football or whatever. And you know, even though it's a day off, it's ooh, back to work, banyana. I do love Sundays, but I know what they're talking about.
SPEAKER_19:And I'm leaving you tomorrow.
SPEAKER_11:Can be nice and relaxing, unless you're watching football, of course.
SPEAKER_19:Seems to me, girl, you know I've done all the game.
SPEAKER_11:The back of your mind though, it's like, oh no, tomorrow morning it's back to the grind.
SPEAKER_19:Yeah.
SPEAKER_13:I'm easy like something more The Commodore's baby Lam Richie, that's right, Sunday morning cast loves Sunday mornings too Sunday morning with no way to hold my head that didn't hurt on a Sunday morning sidewalk I'm wishing lord that I was stoned as there's something in a Sunday that makes the body feel alone and there's nothing sure to die in.
SPEAKER_11:This album is uh what's in my mother's album collection greatly influenced my musical taste. Man, I just love Johnny Cash after listening to this live at Folsom Prison. You know, when I think about that and I think about my mom's record collection, I just have to include this one when it comes to Sundays because this one here reminds me of my ma back way back when song called Never on a Sunday. Billy Vaughn. That's peeps 389. Dun dun dun dun dun. What's this from a film called Never on a Sunday? Dun dunna dunna dunna dun. That's number four on the list, going from least favorite to most popular days of the week. And I kind of find it hard to believe that this it is less popular than this next day, which is Wednesday. It's kinda right there in the middle. It's right there in the middle. I don't wanna hear it. It's not, I don't wanna hear hump day. I wanna hear about Mikey, it's hump day.
SPEAKER_05:I can hear the soft breathing of a girl that I love as she lies here beside me asleep with a night.
SPEAKER_11:Although it does have its own commercial hump day, of course.
SPEAKER_05:Reflecting the glow of a winter.
SPEAKER_11:It's just right there in the middle. Seems like it's still early in the week, but you're making it through the week now.
SPEAKER_05:But my heart remains heavy, and I watch as the press gently rise, gently fall. Oh, what have I done? Why have I done it?
SPEAKER_11:Wednesday morning, 3 a.m. Simon and Garfunkel broken the law. Of course, you have Wednesday's Child by Paul Revere and the Raiders. If you remember that one. And the weekend just about to get underway. Friday coming in at number two.
SPEAKER_02:Everybody seems to make me coming to say I feel better.
SPEAKER_18:Even my own eye looks good.
SPEAKER_10:When they just don't go, when it goes too slow.
SPEAKER_11:What about Lover Boy? Friday Night Lover Boy, huh? That's right, a lot of times Friday night is payday. The eagle has flown. What about the cure? Friday I'm in love. That's right, baby. 72 degrees here at Pat Peeps 389.
SPEAKER_03:I don't care if Monday's blue, Tuesday's gray, and Wednesday too. Thursday I don't care about you. It's Friday. I'm in love. Monday you can fall apart. Tuesday, Wednesday break my heart. Oh, Thursday doesn't even start. It's Friday. I'm in love. Saturday way.
SPEAKER_11:Friday night celebrated. But of course, that leaves us with the number one day of the week. The most popular day of the week. Offering a full day of freedom from obligations. Of course, unless your wife tells you that you have obligations on a Saturday. Otherwise, baby, let it roll. Come on now. Elton John. Saturday nights alright for fighting. Notice how everything's a beat on a Saturday.
SPEAKER_14:I have a little breeze in a hair.
SPEAKER_11:Something about Saturdays. It's fun, exciting. Freedom, the week is over. You still have another day before Sunday. Go out and enjoy it, baby.
unknown:Saturday.
SPEAKER_06:I think it was the Fourth of July. Saturday.
SPEAKER_11:There's even more obscure songs that I love about Saturdays. For instance, you know, yesterday was Steve Perry's birthday from Journey. But I always talk about the days before Steve Perry when it was Greg Raleigh singing. Steve Perry wasn't in the band. Here's a song by them on a Saturday night.
SPEAKER_09:Mama said she said it's gonna be alright. Yes, she did. Well come to bed and turn out the light. She's sleeping in bed, she's dreaming to her light. Yes, she is, well, you know you turn around. All you time is sing this song, you sing this song, yeah. On a Saturday night on a Saturday night Everything is alright.
unknown:Woo!
SPEAKER_11:Saturday night everything is alright, and then the song, hey, never really cared for it, but what the heck, it is Saturday. Best day and night of the week. The Bay City Rollers. Thank you for listening. Happy Friday. Enjoy your weekend as you're listening to the Pat's Peeps Podcast 389. We'll see you on the radio.
SPEAKER_08:Let the Q show up like old Saturday night. Saturday night.
SPEAKER_10:This is a Saturday night.
