It's a beautiful day as I look out my studio window into the beautiful foothills of Northern California where my yard is looking great, if I do say so myself. I've been putting a lot of work into that, a lot of hard work. You know what I've been doing recently? Working out a lot. Putting in a lot of hard work on my property and I but also working out a lot, which is fantastic. I'm feeling good, but anyhow. Uh yeah, like I said, good Friday to you. Thank you for listening. Today, June 5th, 2026. And my name is Pat Walsh. I'm the host of the Pat Walsh show, heard on KBK Radio Monday through Friday, 7 to 10 PM 93.1 FM, 1530 AM. Whatever you're doing today, wherever you are, I surely appreciate you listening. Now, um listening to the Flintstones right there. Do my little intro. Did you know there was that you ever think about like a lot of these shows that we grew up watching? Some of these shows that are beloved, iconic shows, had a pilot episode. Right? A pilot episode. You know, The Simpsons had a pilot episode. If you go back and you watch the pilot episode, it's way different than the Simpsons that we kind of became to know over the years. It evolved over time. The voices were different after a while. The animation was different, you know. The Andy Griffith show had a pilot, you know, with Danny Thomas when he introduced Andy Griffith as the sheriff there, and so on and so forth.

The Lost Flintstones Pilot Explained

The Flintstones had a pilot. Most people do not realize it because it is the lost pilot from 1960. What a great year, 1960. The plot of this is a very brief pilot from the Flintstones would be used and then expand upon expanded upon in one of the early Flintstones episodes. The swimming pool. Fred Flagstone. Did you know he was Fred Flagstone? That's right. Fred Flagstone, before he was Flintstone, floats in his pool on a tube, and his wife Wilma brings him his lunch. Barney then startles her with his weird like scuba div uh diving gear, which includes a bow and arrow. And then Barney accidentally, of course, shoots Fred's tube with his arrow. Fred, who, as you heard there, was enjoying his thought he was enjoying his cactus cooler. Not cactus cooler back then, cactus cooler. I'll get back to that. Because someone was asking me yesterday, which brought all of this to fruition about they were not asking me, but they were asking on social media, name a uh soda that you don't see anymore. First one he came to mind was Cactus Cooler. Or known as Cactus Cooler here. So anyhow, here is Fred in the pilot episode, Fred Flagstone, drinking a w uh and drinking car polish, apparently. Thought it was Cactus Cooler. And then Barney comes along, accidentally shoots out his inner inner tube there with his bow and arrow, and then Fred sinks into the pool. You know, that cannot be good. Let's take a listen to it and listen to in particular the voices and how different they are.

You know, that that voice was always used in cartoons back then. Fred's voice. It actually really fit the cartoon character very well. But now it sounds odd because, of course, we know Fred's, you know, his real voice.

So let's go down that road for a minute. And whoever asked that question, sorry, I forgot who it was. I apologize. But I answered your question. So here's the first one that came to mind. So I just brought these up in order. These soda pops are no longer in existence. Well, maybe some of them are, actually. Yeah, you know what? Not all of these are defunct sodas. And you could have like the baby burger, the teen burger, the mama burger, the papa burger. And we were kids, we would all order it like that. Man, that was quite the sales pitch, man. That was a great way to present it. I couldn't wait to be a teen, so I could have the teen burger. Like I couldn't have one when I was a kid. A and W root beer, they're still around here and there.

But as you can see, they're a bit different from cool nuts. Rather larger, for one thing. Rather juicier to attack. Marvelous little things, we use them, of course, to make the uncooler. It's the uncooler nuts that has to be the uncooler. It's Genesequa, you know, fresh, clean paste, no aftertaste, wet, wild, all that. Marvelous. Absolutely marvelous.
