And we start back in the year 1914. It was on this day that Congress created the aviation section of the Signal Corps. It had 19 officers, 101 enlisted men, and six aircraft. This was the ancestor of the United States Air Force. 1927. Ty Cobb set a major league baseball record by getting his 4,000th career hit. He hit 4,191 before he retired in 1928. 1964. Speaking of hits, Pete Rose of the Cincinnati Reds hit the only Grand Slam home run of his career. 1976, Nadia Komanic became the first gymnast to be awarded a perfect score of 10 in a gymnastics event at the Olympics in Montreal. And on this day in 1992, a picture of Le Horrible Sunette was taken and became the first ever photo posted to the World Wide Web. Well, that is this day in history for the 18th of July.
