Have More Babies
Choosing A Pediatrician Who Feels Like Family
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Choosing a pediatrician shouldn’t feel like guesswork or a race through online reviews. We unpack a practical, parent-first roadmap to selecting a doctor who’s more than a symptom fixer—someone who becomes a true partner in parenting from newborn nights to teen milestones. Using a 12-point framework inspired by experts at Omega Pediatrics, we break down how to balance hard facts with human connection, so you leave every visit feeling informed, supported, and heard.
We start with the search phase: how to lean on your village for referrals, why your OBGYN’s opinion matters, and how to verify state licenses and AAP certification. Then we dig into the metrics that reveal real quality, like daily patient volume and network coverage that prevents surprise bills. From there, we shift to the vibe check—alignment on vaccines and antibiotics, a communication style that centers your child, and modern access through after-hours coverage and telemedicine. You’ll hear how to spot a practice that values inclusive care with trained staff, accessible spaces, and a culture that respects every family’s needs.
Finally, we walk through the first meetings: scheduling a prenatal visit, preparing for the newborn appointment, bringing the vaccination card, and asking every “Is this normal?” question without apology. We also cover how to read reviews for patterns rather than outliers, and why your gut—comfort, trust, and clarity—should be the tie-breaker. As a benchmark, we highlight Omega Pediatrics in Georgia, with services like newborn circumcision, lactation support, allergy and asthma resources, sports physicals, medical ear piercing, and essential after-hours pediatric care. If you want a pediatric home that fits real life, this guide will help you find it.
If this helped, tap follow, share with a friend who’s nesting, and leave a quick review so more parents can find trusted guidance.

Framing The High-Stakes Choice
StellaWelcome back to Have More Babies.
MatthewYeah, I know that title.
StellaRight. It sounds like a command, doesn't it? Like we're just standing here with the megaphone.
MatthewYeah, to it.
StellaBut really, this is all about the journey, the uh the beautiful, messy, and sometimes very logistical journey of growing your family.
From Runny Noses To Teen Years
MatthewAaron Ross Powell And today's topic is uh it's one of those logistical hurdles that can really keep expecting parents up at night.
StellaOh, for sure. And not because the baby's kicking. This is pure anxiety.
MatthewAaron Powell No, this is the pre-baby anxiety.
StellaExactly. We are talking about the massive, kind of daunting task of choosing the primary healthcare provider for your child.
MatthewAaron Ross Powell And we're not just talking about someone who fixes a runny nose.
StellaNo. This is the person who's going to be with you from, you know, those sleepless infant nights all the way through the rebellious teen years. It's a huge relationship.
MatthewAaron Powell It is. It's like a 15, maybe 18-year contract when you think about it. And you're not just looking for like a mechanic for your kid, you're looking for a partner in parenting.
StellaI love that phrase, a partner in parenting. It just changes the whole way you look at it.
Introducing The 12-Step Guide
MatthewIt does. Because their role is so much more than just treating fevers. They're there for developmental health, for nutrition, behavioral issues, total wellness. You need to trust this person.
StellaAaron Powell So to help everyone navigate this, we are unpacking a really comprehensive guide. It's called 12 Best Ways to Choose the Right Pediatrician. And it's directly from the experts at Omega Pediatrics.
MatthewIt's a fantastic source because it gets into the, you know, the real nuance of the relationship. It treats the search like what it is, a hiring process.
StellaAbsolutely. And before we even start breaking this down, I want to be really clear. If you are in this boat right now, if you're looking for a pediatrician, or if anything we say today makes you think, hmm, maybe I need a switch.
Phase One: Search And Logistics
MatthewGo to omegapediatrics.com.
StellaYes, they have a ton of information, including the guide we're talking about today.
MatthewJust bookmark it now, omegapediatrics.com. We're going to mention it a lot because the resources are just that good for parents.
StellaOkay. So give us the roadmap. How are we going to tackle these 12 ways?
MatthewAaron Powell We'll break it down into three phases. First, the search phase, you know, the logic, the logistics, the stuff you have to check.
StellaThe homework.
MatthewThe homework. Then what I like to call the vibe check, all about philosophy and communication.
StellaMy favorite part.
MatthewAnd finally, the first date. What actually happens in those first few visits?
Credentials, Volume, And Insurance
StellaAll right, let's do it. Phase one. The search phase. Logic and logistics. The guide starts with something that feels uh a little old school but is still gold standard.
MatthewRecommendations. Point number one.
StellaStart with your village.
MatthewYep. Ask your friends, co-parents, your family. It's that word-of-mouth factor. You want to hear about the standard of care from people who've actually been there.
StellaRight. But here's a pro tip from the guide that I think a lot of people miss. It's not just about asking your neighbor, it suggests asking your own doctor, your OBGYN.
MatthewOh, that is so smart.
StellaIsn't it?
MatthewThink about it. Doctors know other doctors, they know who's competent, they know who they have a good professional rapport with. It's like an industry insider's perspective.
StellaSo you trust your OBGYN with the delivery, you can probably trust their recommendation for who takes over after.
MatthewExactly. So, okay, you have a name, maybe a few names. Now comes the real homework.
StellaPoint number two, checking credentials.
MatthewThis is non-negotiable. You have to verify their license with the state medical board. You're looking for a clean history, no malpractice, no disciplinary actions. Trevor Burrus, Jr.
StellaIt sounds a little intense, but you have to do it.
MatthewYou have to. And beyond that, you want to look for AAP certification.
StellaAmerican Academy of Pediatrics. Correct.
MatthewAnd that's a big deal. It means they didn't just go to med school, they completed a full residency in pediatrics and passed some really tough exams. It's like a quality guarantee.
StellaSo they specialize in kids, they're not just a general doctor.
MatthewRight. Okay, so license and certification are good. Now, point three, experience.
StellaAaron Powell This one feels a little nuanced.
MatthewIt is. I mean, obviously you want someone who's been doing this for a while, but the guide brings up one specific question that I think is the most important thing you can ask. Well, you need to ask, how many patients does the physician see daily?
StellaOoh, that's a good one. Tell me why that's so important.
MatthewIt's the conveyor build effect. If a doctor is seeing, you know, 50 to 60 kids a day, just do the math. How much time do they have for you?
StellaMinutes. They're probably already thinking about the next patient.
MatthewExactly. Are they really listening to your concerns about like your baby's weird sleep schedule? Or are they just trying to get to the next room?
StellaYou want someone who has time. You don't want to feel rushed.
MatthewA lower volume usually means higher quality attention. And that brings us to the practical side of things.
StellaPoint number six in the guide, but if it's right here, insurance.
Phase Two: The Vibe Check
MatthewAh, the money talk, the practical reality. You have to check if they're in network.
StellaAnd it's not just about convenience, it's about uh saving a lot of money.
MatthewA lot. In-network providers have a set rate. If you go out of network, they can charge more, and your insurance might not cover it. You could get a huge bill for a simple checkup.
StellaYeah. And just to give everyone an idea of what a good list looks like, the source, Omega Pediatrics, they take a ton of plans. Aetna, Blue Cross, Blue Shield, Cigna, Humana, United Healthcare, TriCare.
MatthewThe list goes on, and seeing a long list like that is a good sign. It means the practice is established. But you know, standard advice, always call and double check your specific plan.
StellaOkay, so credentials check out, insurance is good, they're not overworked. Now we can move to phase two.
MatthewThe vibe check.
StellaThis is where it gets interesting.
MatthewIt really is. Because a doctor can look amazing on paper, but if you don't click, it's just not going to work.
StellaSo point four, evaluate their approach to care.
MatthewThis is all about values. You need a doctor whose philosophy lines up with yours.
StellaAaron Powell What are we talking about here? Like what are the big friction points?
MatthewThe big ones are usually vaccination schedules, how they use antibiotics and their views on alternative medicine.
StellaAaron Powell Right. If you're someone who wants to avoid medication unless it's totally necessary, and your doctor writes a prescription for every little sniffle.
MatthewYou're gonna clash. And that's stressful. You need a partner, not an adversary.
Communication, Access, And Telemedicine
StellaWhich leads right into point number five communication style.
MatthewThis is so huge. And the guide makes a brilliant point here. It's not just about how the doctor interacts with you, it's how they interact with the child. Yes. That's the real test. Do they get down on the child's level? Do they make eye contact? Do they actually talk to them?
StellaOr do they just talk over them like they're a sack of potatoes?
MatthewIt says so much. And then you have to ask the hard questions like what happens at two in the morning when your kid has a raging fever? Is there a number to call? Do you get a real person?
StellaYou need to know the protocol before you're in that panic mode.
MatthewFor sure. And speaking of modern access, point nine, telemedicine.
StellaOh, modern necessity. I feel like this isn't optional anymore.
MatthewI agree. The guide calls it a feasible and reasonable alternative. I mean, think about it. You've got a newborn at home, and your toddler has a weird rash.
StellaThe last thing you want to do is drag everyone to a waiting room full of sick kids.
MatthewExactly. Yeah. Being able to do a quick video call for that rash is a game changer. If a practice doesn't offer that, you have to wonder if they're keeping up.
StellaOkay, but the experience isn't just the doctor.
MatthewNot at all. That's point eight. The support staff.
StellaThe nurses, the front desk, they're creditful.
MatthewYeah. If the receptionist is rude or the nurse is dismissive, you're gonna dread calling that office no matter how much you like the doctor.
StellaYou want to feel comfortable talking to anyone there.
MatthewAnd one last thing on the vibe check accessibility. Point number seven.
StellaThis is so important for families with special needs. Is the office wheelchair accessible?
MatthewDoes the staff have experience supporting children with special needs? It's about inclusivity. You want a practice that is ready for your child, whatever their needs are.
StellaOkay, so you've found a practice, the vibe is good, the logistics work. Now. Phase three.
Staff, Accessibility, And After Hours
MatthewThe first date, or as the guide calls it, the predate.
StellaPoint 10, the prenatal visit.
MatthewYes. Meet the doctor before the baby is even born.
StellaIt's such a smart move. You can ask all those big philosophy questions without the stress of a crying newborn in your arms.
MatthewYou can see the office, meet the staff, just get a feel for the place.
StellaBut eventually that first real visit happens, and the guide breaks down what to expect, which I think is so helpful for new parents.
MatthewIt can be intimidating when you're sleep deprived and overwhelmed.
StellaSo first up is the physical exam.
MatthewRight. They're checking the basics: breathing, temperature, making sure all the systems are right.
StellaThen history taking.
MatthewThat's your job. They'll ask about the pregnancy, the delivery, any little things you've noticed at home. You're the data collector.
Phase Three: Prenatal And First Visits
StellaThen developmental milestones.
MatthewDepending on the age, they'll ask about feeding, smiling, standing, all those little firsts.
StellaAnd of course, vaccinations.
MatthewYep. Always, always bring the vaccination card.
StellaDon't forget the card.
MatthewAnd finally, the wellness discussion. This is your time.
StellaThis is where you ask all those, is this normal questions?
MatthewAsk every single one. No question is silly.
StellaOkay, so we've done the search, the vibe check, the first date. There are two points left.
MatthewPoint eleven is reading reviews.
StellaSites like HealthGreeds, Zoc Doc.
MatthewYeah, and you're looking for patterns. Don't worry about one angry review. But if 20 people say the billing is a nightmare, pay attention to that pattern. But point twelve is the most important one.
StellaThe gut check.
MatthewTrust your instincts. At the end of the day, this is a subjective choice.
StellaThe doctor can be perfect on paper, but if something just feels off.
MatthewTrust that feeling. You have to feel confident and comfortable. If you walk out of an appointment feeling dismissed or anxious, it is not the right fit.
StellaSo why does this all matter so much? Why go through all this trouble?
MatthewPeace of mind. Parenting is full of uncertainty. Your health care should not be another source of stress.
StellaAnd it saves you time and money in the long run.
Reviews, Patterns, And Gut Check
MatthewTotally. Good preventative care catches things early. That means fewer ER visits later. It's an investment.
StellaNow, we've been using omega pediatrics as our source here, but I want to talk about them specifically for a minute.
MatthewYeah, because they really seem to walk the walk.
StellaThey're based in Georgia, in the Roswell, Alpharetta, and Milton areas. But even if you don't live there, what they offer is a great benchmark for what a top-tier practice looks like.
MatthewI was really impressed by some of their specific services.
StellaMe too. Like newborn circumcision done after you leave the hospital.
MatthewThat's a huge convenience. It takes the pressure off doing it in that first chaotic day or two. Offering that in the office is a game changer.
StellaIt really is. And they also mention medical ear piercing.
MatthewYes. So much better than a kiosk at the mall.
StellaYeah.
MatthewYou want a medical professional in a sterile environment doing that, it's just safer.
StellaThey also list lactation services, allergy and asthma resources, sports physicals. It's comprehensive.
MatthewAnd remember, we talked about accessibility. They specifically list essential after hours pediatric care.
Why It Matters: Peace Of Mind
StellaWhich is everything.
MatthewIt is. Kids get sick at 8 p.m. on a Friday. Knowing your doctor has a plan for that, besides just go to the ER, that's what being a partner in parenting really means.
StellaIt really seems like they've built their whole practice around what modern families actually need.
MatthewAbsolutely. They design the care around the family's life, not the other way around.
Omega Pediatrics As A Benchmark
StellaSo to wrap this all up, finding the right pediatrician is so much more than checking a degree on a wall.
MatthewIt's about finding a resource for everything, from breastfeeding to sleep training.
StellaAnd building that village.
MatthewSo I'm going to say it again. If you're in Georgia, or even if you just want to see what an amazing practice looks like, go to omegapediatrics.com.
Practical Cost And Network Tips
StellaYou can book an appointment, read about their services, see the whole team. It's all there.
MatthewOmegapediatrics.com. Seriously, bookmark it, send it to your pregnant friends. Your future self will thank you.
Georgia Locations And Booking
StellaAnd while you're online, don't forget the other important stuff. If you found this helpful, please hit that like button.
MatthewIt really does help other parents find the information. And subscribe to the channel. We have a lot more coming to make your life easier.
StellaAnd share this. You know someone who's stressing about this. Send it to them. Finding a doctor shouldn't be a solo mission.
Services That Fit Modern Families
MatthewDefinitely not. Takes a village.
StellaWell said. Thanks for walking us through all of this. It's a huge decision.
MatthewMy pleasure. It's one of the most important ones you'll make.
After Hours And Specialized Services
StellaAnd to all of you listening, thank you for tuning in to have more babies. We'll see you next time.
MatthewBye, everyone.
StellaGoodbye.
