Charlie Mitchell:

Yo, it's your guy, Charlie Mitchell. And today I figured I'd do something a little bit different, to help you understand why we have to read through Genesis chapter 36. Typically, I just read the chapter, say a brief prayer at the end, but this one is going to be a challenge for me to get through, but this is why it's significant. So Genesis 36, it can easily seem like just a boring list of names. We have several genealogies. All throughout the scriptures. And so it's just names on names, on names. We can't pronounce'em correctly, all the different things. But it's not just a filler chapter. It's actually setting the stage for something bigger. So what I mean by that is this is Esau's chapter. This is the big Esau overview and wrap up. Now we know Esau because He's the older son of Isaac. He doesn't get the covenant like he's supposed to, right? Jacob gets that, but Esau still builds his own thing, which God had promised to him. So what we're looking at here is the origin story of the mites. That's who becomes his people. Israel and Edam are gonna butt heads all throughout the Bible, all kinds of ancient beef, generational grudges, it all starts right here This is significant because it shows that even if you're not in the chosen line, God still gives you space. You still get room to grow into a nation That's, that's kind of the big theological point that this is pointing out that God had favor on Isaac to the point where, yes, your son. Esau did not get the covenant blessing, but I still have room for him. There are still going to be nations that come from him. blessing isn't reserved for one person. It is, is big enough that even if you're not, quote unquote, the chosen God still answers the prayer of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob through these various lines that nations and your descendants will be countless as the stars and nations and kings will come from you. Right? So we've got, we've got that down Pat. Israel's got the covenant role, but Edem has got the rival role And what you'll notice is later on there are going to be prophets that rebuke edem, that talk about edem as an enemy of the children of God. You can trace all of that back to this family tree right here. So Genesis 36 is basically saying, do not sleep on Esau. he's not the covenant receiver, but he's still got a role to play in this story and his descendants are going to matter. They are significant to this whole thing playing out. And it's like the spinoff series that actually feeds into the main show. So we're getting some background. We're getting a family tree, and I hope that this is helpful as you hear these names and pray for you, boy.'cause these names are not easy to pronounce. So. You are listening to the Dope Daily Audio Bible, and I'm your guide Pastor Charlie Mitchell, and today we're looking at Genesis Chapter 36. Let's roll. These are the family records of Esau. You show us through the line of Esau that you are a faithful father and you fulfill your promises. You are the God of multiple generations. You are the one who weaves names into nations and stories into your eternal plan. So as you ordered the steps of Esau and his descendants, we trust you to order our steps as well. When our path seemed to diverge from what we expected, when family stories begin to unfold in different ways than we we thought could ever be possible, your hand will still guide our history. So remind us that our worth is not in our particular lineage, our position, or in our possessions, Lord, I pray that you will remind us that our worth is in being called your sons and daughters. Thank you for being a God who sees who we are. You are the God who gives us specific names in the God who carries your promises forward through every generation. We thank you. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
