You're listening to the Dope Daily Audio Bible, and I'm your guy, pastor Charlie Mitchell, and today we're looking at Joshua Chapter 20. Let's roll. Then the Lord spoke to Joshua. Tell the Israelites, Select your cities of refuge as I instructed you through Moses, so that a person who kills someone unintentionally or accidentally may flee there. These will be your refuge from the avenger of blood. when someone flees to one of these cities, stands at the entrance of the city gate and states his case before the elders of that city, they're to bring him into the city and give him a place to live among them. And if the avenger of blood pursues him, They must not hand the one who committed manslaughter over to him He killed his neighbor accidentally and did not hate him beforehand. He's to stay in that city until he stands trial before the assembly and until the death of the high priest serving at that time then the one who committed manslaughter may return home to his own city from which he fled. so they designated Kadesh in the hill country of Naftali in Galilee. Shekel in the hill country of Raim and eth aba. That is Hein in the hill country of Judah across the Jordan, east of Jericho. They selected Beezer on the wilderness plateau from Ruben's tribe, Ram and Gilead from Gads Tribe Golan and Baan from Manassas Tribe. These are the cities appointed for all the Israelites and the aliens residing among them so that anyone who kills a person unintentionally may flee there and not die at the hand of the avenger of blood until he stands before the assembly. Let's pray. Heavenly Father, we thank you because you make space for mercy in a world that moves quickly to judgment. And we need that. We say thank you for being our refuge, A safe place when we need protection and a covering when we are afraid. Teach us to reflect your heart by creating room for grace, by pursuing justice, both compassion and by remembering that every story has more beneath the surface than we initially see. When we are overwhelmed by guilt or fear, I pray that you'll remind us that we can run to you. You are our shelter, our defender, and our peace. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
