You're listening to the Dope Daily Audio Bible, and I'm your guy, pastor Charlie Mitchell, and today we're looking at Second Samuel chapter 10. Let's roll sometime later. The king of the Ammonites died and his son Hanon became king in his place. Then David said, I'll show kindness to Hanon, son of Nahash, just as his father showed kindness to me. So David sent his emissaries to console Hanon concerning his father. However, when they arrived in the land of the Ammonites, the Ammonite leaders said to Hanon their Lord, just because David has sent men with condolences for you, do you really believe he's showing respect to your father? Instead, hasn't David sent emissaries in order to scout out the city, spy on it, and demolish it? So Hanon took David's emissaries, shaved off their beards, cut their clothes in half at the hips, and sent them away. When this was reported to David, he sent someone to meet them since they were deeply humiliated. The king said, stay in Jericho until your beards grow back then return. when the Ammonites realized they had become repulsive to David, they hired 20,000 foot soldiers from the Amans of Beth Rahho and Zoba, 1000 men from the King of Maca, and 12,000 men from Tobe. David heard about it and sent Joab and all the elite troops. The Ammonites marched out and lined up in battle formation at the interest of the city gate While the Amans of Zoba and Rah Ho and the men of Tob and Maka were in the field by themselves. When Joe AB saw that there was a battle line in front of him and another behind him, he chose some of Israel's finest young men and lined up in formation to engage the Air Mans. He placed the rest of the forces under the command of his brother Abishai. They lined up in formation to engage the Ammonites. If the air mans are too strong for me, Joe upset. Then you'll be my help. However, if the Ammonites are too strong for you, I'll come help you be strong. Let's prove ourselves strong for our people and for the cities of our God. May. The Lord's will be done. Joab and his troops advanced the fight against the air mans and they fled before him. When the Amite saw that the air mans had fled, they too fled before abishai and entered the city. so Joab withdrew from the attack against the Ammonites and went to Jerusalem. when the Airman saw that they had been defeated by Israel, they regrouped, had a desert, sent messengers to bring the air mans who were beyond the Euphrates River. They came to Halem with Shoba commander of Hadda desert's army leading them. When this was reported to David, he gathered all Israel, crossed the Jordan and went to Halem. Then the Araman lined up to engage David in battle and fought against him. But the Araman fled before Israel and David killed 700 of their charioteers and 40,000 foot soldiers. He also struck down Shoba commander of their army who died there when all the kings who were out of desert subjects saw that they had been defeated by Israel, they made peace with Israel and became their subjects. After this, the Amans were afraid to ever help the Ammonites again. Let's pray. Heavenly Father, you are our great defender. You are the one who stands with us. When we're misunderstood and under pressure in this chapter, we see kindness getting rejected, intentions getting twisted, and conflicts rising outta confusion. many of us today know that kind of feeling, trying to do what's right, and still ended up in some kind of tension. I pray that you'll forgive us for the times we assume the worst in other people, or respond outta pride instead of wisdom. Give us discernment in our relationships to move with humility, but always with strength when we need it. When we face opposition from other people, remind us that we're not alone. Teach us to stand firm, to fight the right battles and to trust you with the outcomes. Make us people who are both gracious and courageous, not backing down from what's right, but not losing our character in the process. Jesus, I pray that you will go before us in every conflict, that you would steady our hearts, and that you will lead us in a way that honors you ultimately. In Jesus' name we pray, amen. I.
