Charlie Mitchell

You're listening to the Dope Daily Audio Bible and I'm your guy, pastor Charlie Mitchell. And today we're looking at Second Samuel chapter 20. Let's roll now. A wicked man, a Benjamin Knight named Shiba, Son of Bickery happened to be there. He blew the Rams horn and shouted, we have no portion in David, no inheritance in Jesse's son, each man to his tent Israel. So all the men of Israel deserted David and followed Sheba of Bickery, but the men of Judah, from the Jordan all the way to Jerusalem remain loyal to their king. When David came to his palace in Jerusalem, He took the 10 concubine he had left to take care of the palace and placed them under guard. he provided for them, but he was not intimate with them. They were confined until the day of their death living as widows. The king said to a masa Someon the men of Judah to me within three days and be here yourself. Amasa went to summon Judah, but he took longer than the time allotted him. So David said to Abha, Shabba son of Bickery will do more harm to us than Absalom. Take your Lord's soldiers and pursue him, or he will find fortified cities and elude us. So Joe Abs men, the Chaite, the Pite, and all the warriors marched out under Abha command. they left Jerusalem to pursue Shabba. Son of Bickery. they were at the Great Stone and Gibeon. When Amasa joined them, Joab was wearing his uniform and over. It was a belt around his waist with a sword in his sheath. As he approached the sword fell out. Joab asked Amasa, are you? Well, my brother then, with his right hand, Joab, grabbed Amasa by the beard to kiss him Amasa was not on guard against the sword in Jo's hand and Joab stabbed him in the stomach with it and spilled his intestines out on the ground. Joab did not stab him again and Amasa died. Joab and his brother Abha pursued Shebas. Son of Bickery, one of Joe's young men has stood over Amasa saying. Whoever favors Joab and whoever is for David followed Joab. Now, Ammas had been writhing in his blood in the middle of the highway, and the man had seen that all the troops stopped. So he moved to Masa from the highway to the field and threw a garment over him because he realized all those who encountered a masa was stopping. When he was removed from the highway. All the men passed by and followed Joab to pursue Sheba. Son of Bickery Sheba passed through all the tribes of Israel To Abel, a Beth Macka, all the bear rights came together and followed him. Jo's troops came and Besieged Sheba and Abel. A Beth Macka. They built a siege ramp against the outer wall of the city. while all the troops with Joab were battering the wall to make it collapse, a wise man called out from the city. Listen, listen. please tell Joab to come here and let me speak with him. When he had come near her, the woman asked, are you Joab? I am. He replied, listen to the words of your servant. She said to him, he answered. I'm listening. She said in the past they used to say seek counsel and able, and that's how they settled disputes. I am one of the peaceful and faithful in Israel, but you're trying to destroy the city that is like a mother in Israel. Why would you devour the Lord's inheritance? Joab protested never. I would never devour or demolish. That is not the case. There is a man named Sheba Bickery from the Hill country of F rm who has rebelled against King David delivered this one man and I will withdraw from the city. The Roman replied to Joab watch. His head will be thrown over the wall to you. The woman went to all the people with her wise counsel and they cut off the head of Sheba, son of Bickery, And threw it to Joab. So he blew the Rams horn and they dispersed from the city each to his own tent. Joab returned to the king in Jerusalem. Joab commanded the whole army of Israel. son of Jaida, was over the cites and Pite. Adam Over forced labor. Jehosaphat, son of aab, was court historian. Sheva was court secretary. Za and Abby. Aha were priests. And in addition, IRA, the Gyr was David's priest. Let's pray. Heavenly Father, I pray that we will be reminded that you are our king, the one who brings unity. You're the one who holds us together, and when everything feels like it's falling all apart, you are the one who holds it all together for us We see over and over again with every chapter division keeps rising up quickly. Voices stir up, rebellion, people start drifting from one another and we know how easily this can happen in real life, in relationships, and even in our own hearts towards you. So today we come near you. Forgive us for when we've contributed to division through our words and our attitudes, or the things that we've left unaddressed guard us from being drawn into conflict that pulls us away from your will. Give us discernment to recognize what's destructive before it takes root. I pray that you would give us courage to pursue peace without avoiding the truth. And give us wisdom to know how to respond in moments that require clarity in action. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
