JOSEPH M LENARD (HOST): Hope everyone will have a happy Thanksgiving as well as moving into the month of December. Of course, Happy Hanukkah, Merry Christmas and it won't be long. Happy New Year.
[ChristiTutionalist Politics podcast begin Show intro]
Welcome to ChristiTutionalist Politics podcast aka CTP in association with TheLibertyBeacon.com and I am your host Joseph M Lenard and that's L E N A R D CTP is your no muss no fuss just me you And occasional guest type podcast as Graham Norton would say let's get on with the show
[ChristiTutionalist Politics podcast - Segment 1]
JOSEPH M LENARD (HOST): Hello everyone, welcome back to Christatouchellus Politics. Today I am joined by Michelle Jusbury. It's J-E-W-S-B-U-R-Y. So I had to ask, is it Burry or Burry? It's just Burry. So B-U-R-Y on the other end there and we know each other through Trent Brock and Trent Brock haven't been involved in your project of breaking the silence voices of the survivors. So before we start with that, of course the logical place to start is to the who song. Who are you? Who, who, who, who, right? Where we're born, raised, all that good stuff.
MICHELLE JEWSBURY: Got it. Okay, well thank you so much, Joseph. I'm excited to talk with your audience. A little bit about me, I grew up in a small town in North Idaho called Sand Point, Idaho. Moved around my whole life, my daddy was in the military army to be specific and I always knew that my parents were my biggest cheerleaders and now they're no longer with us, they still are my biggest cheerleaders, which is amazing. Well, moving was very challenging for both my brother and I. However, I excelled in school, I was a varsity cheerleader. When I graduated high school though, I wanted something even more. That's something even more for me was to move to Hollywood, California and pursue an acting career and things were going well. I was starring in plays and films and doing everything that I thought was on my way to start them and then I ended up meeting somebody, this blonde haired blue-eyed boy who swept me off my feet and it turned out to be a very, very violent relationship. I had no idea what I was facing. I never experienced domestic violence in the home. Fast forward, I escaped from him four years later. I sue him for the abuse that I endured and I ended up writing my story. In that writing process, I wrote and performed a 65-minute solo play about my experience in domestic violence and that's when people started coming up to me and telling me their stories and that's when I felt a calling from God to do even more. In 2017, I founded a non-profit organization called Unsilenced Voices. We began in West Africa. We've done a lot of work in Ghana and Rwanda. The bulk of our programming is in Sierra Leone. We've also done work in the United States and in 2019, I began speaking and coaching and along that journey, I discovered that it's not about Michelle Giusebere but providing a platform for other people to tell their stories. Hence, the book you just lifted up. We have a book collaboration project called Breaking the Silence Voices of Survivors and if you've listened to Trent Brock, he is one of the authors in that book. We also teach a program called Legacy Camp, which is a 12-week group coaching program to help people tell their stories through book publishing, public speaking and creating courses and content for monetization. Then, of course, we have virtual summits every year between two to four every year giving people the platform to be able to share their stories. Joseph,
JOSEPH M LENARD (HOST): that's just a little bit about me. People hopefully heard the interview I did with Trent Brock. He is how you and I connected. Don't remember the date that that interview aired. I should have made a note of that but I'll put it in the show notes and obviously in the show notes, I'll link your Michelle Giusebere.com and on silencevoices.org which of course will go over again. What year was this book again? For those behind the scenes on the video channels, you could see the book for those on audio. Why aren't you watching on the video channels? But at any rate, what year did this actually publish? Breaking the silence,
MICHELLE JEWSBURY: Voices of Survivors, Volume 1 published in January of 2024 and we are publishing a volume every October from here on out. We'll publish Volume 2 October 2024. We are currently looking for Volume 3 authors. If you know that you have a story that you want to tell, please go to Michelle Giusebere.com. Again, Michelle Giusebere.com. You can book a meeting with me and we can see if that's a good fit. We only have about 10 spots left for Volume 3 but that will be published in October of 2025 and then every consecutive October we will have a new volume published.
JOSEPH M LENARD (HOST): A good ongoing thing that will help people. I myself am a suicide attempt survivor as well as a leukemia caster survivor. I'll probably be reaching out to you about maybe putting a chapter together. We should talk about that later offline. That's not something you discuss. That would be great. Not something you discuss in the middle of an interview. It didn't mean to put you on the spot. No problem. What other books? Your site there are some free download stuff. You can download a chapter of
MICHELLE JEWSBURY: What Other Fair. Yeah, so I have published a variety of other books and been part of different collaborations as well. My first book was called But I Love Him. That published in 2019. That's my experience in a domestic violence relationship. So all of that is factual except for some names, dates and locations. Fast forward. I have been a part of a couple of collaborations. One is called A Dose of Hope. The other one is the 262 project and then of course Breaking the Silence Voices of Survivors. I am publishing my second full-length book now. So we are in the process of pitching to publishers and literary agents. If for some reason it does not get picked up by a traditional publisher, we will self-publish when I say we my editor and I, Jim Mardica, amazing guy. We will publish that book in February of 2025. So that is called Your Ultimate Breakthrough. It steps to overcome challenges in your life and different ways to see the world despite what it is that you've gone through and giving you practical tools to utilize so that you really can conquer the world and achieve the dreams that you want no matter what. And then of course volume two
JOSEPH M LENARD (HOST): will be published in October of this year. Yeah, you're busy and I also remember from the site that there's a download related to guide five steps to overcome.
MICHELLE JEWSBURY: Yeah, so that's a free digital download. If you do visit MichelleJewsbury.com, there are three different links right on the home page there. The first one is the five steps to overcome challenges. You can download that. It's a visual platform. So it's literally five steps that's very visual. It's just a PDF download and it is all about recognize thoughts, feelings, words, and then action steps to help you overcome. And then there's a free digital download of the introduction to, but I love him. And then of course a link to book a meeting with me whether you want to tell your story, collaborate, or just get on the phone and see what can happen. I've often been accused of
JOSEPH M LENARD (HOST): being challenged. For those in the audio only, I'm doing the crazy person fingers around the head saying, but that's not the kind of challenge you're talking about, obviously.
MICHELLE JEWSBURY: Well, multiple different challenges. So the people that we work with clients have faced all different types of adversities from domestic violence and sexual abuse and human trafficking, to disease, suicide attempts, homicide, addiction, mental health crises, all kinds of different ailments that people have experienced. Trent Brock, for example, is a three time cancer survivor. And he has published his story in volume one. He will also be a part of the volume two book collaboration. And he is going to publish in volume three for 2025. So his volume two, we just got done editing chapters. And it really leaves you in a cliffhanger. But I am so excited, we have a couple of authors that are continuing to tell their story in this book collaboration. But many of them are telling their story on their own now giving them a platform to do so. One of one of the women that I worked with in volume one, and there have been multiple of course, but she is a cult survivor. Her name is Martha Cartoui. And she has now published her own book. And she's speaking on different platforms worldwide, sharing her message. And that's the entire purpose of publishing a book is to get your message out there. But it classifies you as an expert in your space. Only 2% of the population actually publishes a book. When you're a published author, then you get access to being interviewed on large networks like ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox. And those networks then will interview you about a book. They won't have you come on and talk about speaking engagements or products and services. But if you have a book, they want to talk to you about that. So since we've published volume one, we have been interviewed on Fox 13, ABC Action News and Bay News 9. So a lot of exposure just in the past seven months. So it's been really great for a lot of our authors. It's an amazing opportunity to showcase your story and also put you in that
JOSEPH M LENARD (HOST): category of expert. Yeah. And as you said, it opens it up then to come out on a podcast like mine, like Trent did. I forget. I think we connected through podcast guests, maybe matchmaker FM. I don't remember right now because it's been a while. But yeah, we connected it. Indeed, I joke with him. He wins. He beat cancer three times. I've only had to do it once. So he gets the trophy. We got to keep a sense of humor. And thankfully indeed, Trent does have a great sense of humor. Does I love working with Trent? And I had the page bookmark to Trent's section there of breaking the silence voices of survivors. Volume one, he is chapter four. The ultimate underdog became the overachieving if I could talk right, overcomer. So going to look forward to volume two then to see what Trent puts in as a follow up. And I'll probably have to have Trent back as a maybe I should. Hopefully, maybe we can work it that I can have you and Trent back at the same time to have have a three way conversation about volume two. That would be great. I think. Yeah, no, that would
MICHELLE JEWSBURY: be awesome. And then Trent for volume two right now, he is chapter five. And his chapter is called The Journey Within The Journey Begins. It's a great addition to what he's already contributed for volume one for volume two for all of your audience members. If you go to Michelle, jusbury.com and click on the little books icon on the top right hand corner, then you can actually enroll to receive a notification on when volume two is dropping. It's real easy. Just go to Michelle jusbury.com forward slash presale. Now that presale page will get you a link to where you can enroll and we will notify you when the book launches. It's hard to keep all this information available. So yeah, so excuse me, it's not presale. It's Michelle jusbury.com forward slash pre order. But you can find that. Yeah, you can find that on the top right hand corner of my website.
JOSEPH M LENARD (HOST): Okay. And yeah, I hope my audience has a pen and paper and taking notes. Or of course, this is a podcast. You can always skip back here and again, when you need to or skip back and write it down. I highly recommend volume one. So I am certain I will highly recommend volume two and three and nine. You know, being a suicide attempt survivor myself, there's a lot of relatability and they can't survivor myself. There's a lot of relatability. And I know people out there probably can use I don't know that something like this is available and would be very beneficial for them so that they are in the you're not alone boat through experience of others. You might find some solace
MICHELLE JEWSBURY: and some peace for yourself for volume two. The common theme and volume two is grief. Now that doesn't mean that everybody's talking about grief. But that is a common theme. And I would say at least five out of the 20 authors are talking about suicide, whether suicide of their friends and family or suicide attempts themselves. So there is that common theme because mental health is a big crisis right now all over the world. So people are talking about it because the only way to heal is to feel through pain. And in order to do that, it takes speaking up. It takes writing, whether it's stream of consciousness writing, writing a blog or a book writing in a diary or doing a journal every day and then different types of therapies. So whether that is traditional therapy where you sit down with a therapist and talk out your problems or it could be a non-traditional type like art using art for healing, music for healing. So there's all kinds of different ways to express yourself, but making sure that you express yourself so that you can feel through
JOSEPH M LENARD (HOST): the pain and heal. My terror strikes coming soon to a sitting near you book when it dropped in 2022. It has a suicide prevention sub theme in it. Being a suicide attempt survivor myself, I felt that as part of my calling in and through that book and at times through interviews or through whatever other opportunities to indeed make the point all life has value and meaning. You may not see it on a daily basis. You may not see it for months or years just because you're not seeing it or getting an immediate feedback doesn't mean it isn't happening. You don't know what tomorrow brings or next week or next month or next year or next decade until you carpet DM it and even little things you may never realize. Smile to a stranger. I like to talk about the old Pantene commercial. They tell two friends. They tell two friends pretty soon you got a movement, right? So your little gesture may spark a gesture from somebody else to somebody else who may help someone down the line. You don't know and then unless it's clearance like it's a wonderful life shows up to show you firsthand. You may never know by that guarantee your life is providing some value to others and if you help someone who then saves someone else's life who then their child goes on to cure cancer, a particular cancer or another, you have a small part in that cancer being cured and again you may never know or see it but it may be there. Yeah God definitely uses our
MICHELLE JEWSBURY: stories so no matter what your story is you are then able to help. And again it may not be overt
JOSEPH M LENARD (HOST): it may just be something small and in passing. You never know. I find some value of my own life now in that thought again just little things I do may break someone else's day which then break someone else's day which may down the line save a life. Your story definitely can save a life
MICHELLE JEWSBURY: there's been many individuals for example in my first book but I love him who have picked up the book read the book given it to friends and family members and a few of them personally have messaged out to me and said this book saved my life. It encouraged me to leave my abusive situation or encouraged me not to commit suicide because I feel like I'm not alone and oftentimes people will throw away their stories like it's trash right. We pop our callers saying that we're just fine we don't want to talk about it we're okay however if we keep our stories to yourselves and we throw our stories away then we are actually holding on to the treasure that could help another individual oftentimes trash is somebody else's treasure and it's so important to be able to use that voice
JOSEPH M LENARD (HOST): to speak up. As the British would say we put on that face that keep that stiff up brilliant right wander around pretending like nothing's happening or nothing's wrong and that doesn't help you and certainly doesn't help others if you keep that bottled up it will eat away at you and again by sharing it can't help others. Yes. Are you still in Idaho now or? No so I left Idaho when I was
MICHELLE JEWSBURY: 20 years old and I moved to Hollywood California at 20 and I actually moved to Florida January of 2022 so I currently reside in the Tampa Bay area so Tampa Florida. I do a lot of traveling so while we're recording this podcast I am actually sitting in Los Angeles and then from here I go to Idaho to visit some family and friends and then I go to Washington state because I'm a huge Dave Matthews band fan. Oh Dave Matthews band does Labor Day at the gorge so it's a three-day experience I should say experience is a is a good word for it but I'm a huge concert goer I love going to concerts especially DMB and I think it's important for people to have a release so this is my summer vacation in a sense and then from there I start working again I'm going to an event in Las Vegas early September called Secret Knock it's a really great event hosted by a man named Greg Reed and then from there I travel back to Tampa and then back to Vegas for the now honors with Teresa Goss and then of course the BioMed Expo so I get to speak at both of those and I think in the Intermittent I am also speaking at a nonprofit event called Safe Space in Florida. So you're busy
JOSEPH M LENARD (HOST): yeah yeah so let the cat out of the bag not the exact date but yes we we are recording this in August and as we said before we started recording I do not have a specific drop date yet for this episode so when you're hearing this just know yeah we recorded it in August it won't air in August it may more likely be October but again things are fluid I move them about as things happen
MICHELLE JEWSBURY: you can find information just you know just go on to michellejusbury.com and and there's a link there that says um what does it say it says stay connected that's easy so just hit stay connected and we'll get your email address you'll find information about the book anything that we're doing with unsilenced voices any product services and of course all the speaking engagements all over
JOSEPH M LENARD (HOST): the world that I will be at yeah I love Vegas I have been there since last I was there at the Sahara in 2006 right before they were gonna renovate it and turn it into the SLS or whatever it is now so yeah it's been a long time since I've been to Vegas a lot of change since then so I I don't really need an excuse to go to Vegas but maybe that could work out yeah you know there's been
MICHELLE JEWSBURY: a lot of change just since the covid pandemic and I think that people are in a different realm I don't know a better word to use right now but pre pandemic versus post pandemic there is we lost a couple years in between there people are confused they have anxiety now going back to work there's all kinds of different things and it's great to go back to in-person events and kind of slowly integrate back into the way society is meant to be where we are in person talking with one another it's interesting I typically have meetings with clients you can book calls with me and I actually still have phone calls so people sometimes get confused when I call their cell phone versus having a zoom link for example they're like wait what's going on here and I'm like well I'm kind of old school I suppose I want to hear your voice and if we decide to work together then I'd love
JOSEPH M LENARD (HOST): to hop on a zoom and find out even more glad you mentioned the Wuhan hysteria year because when you mentioned it before I meant to feed off that and got sidetracked and I forgot to you mention it again one of the press releases I put out regarding terror strikes because of again the suicide prevention sub-seam and the book was indeed about the escalation in suicides during the Wuhan hysteria period as people were isolated and in the uptick especially in children because they were really isolated and completely away from everything and that's not
MICHELLE JEWSBURY: even including the uptick in domestic violence sexual abuse victims child sexual abuse victims so C-SAC and commercial sexual exploitation pornography has increased mental health has decreased suicide homicides I mean there are so many stats out there where being isolated is detrimental to your health to not stay isolated I have a client a potential client I should say that I had a conversation with a few weeks back who is located in Australia and in Australia they had you locked down for two years you were like in a in a less than a five-mile radius around your house or your apartment and it was horrible for a lot of Australians and depending on where you live if this is an international podcast you could be listening to this in Pakistan or Australia or the Europe or the United States if you are sitting in the United States oftentimes we don't understand and recognize what's happened overseas just over the pond in Europe and then you go further east and then go to you know Asian countries and then Australia and all of these other countries where the mental health crisis is huge I work a lot in Africa so I go to Sierra Leone quite frequently just the discrepancies between what we think is Africa and what actually is Africa is just so severe one of our girls for example today she got into an accident her name is Salia Matu she is a a wonderful student of ours she's been with us for shoot almost since the beat so almost since since our inception so I'd say six years we've been working with Salia Matu we rescued her from the streets and she was in this tragic accident well in Sierra Leone they don't have direct access to the medical care that first world countries do so this accident she is not being x-rayed there are no CAT scans available the doctor just comes in and pokes at her and says where do you hurt so it's really interesting to see the the need in other countries and I know we're going off on a tangent here but unsilenced voices is all about giving people a voice worldwide and these medical advancements in first world countries really need to be given to a lot of third world nations to help them and then this this AI and all these technologies coming out and by the time you know you're listening to this podcast this could be years after we've recorded this episode and the advancements are going to be so far fetched that I don't even understand what it looks like two years from now
JOSEPH M LENARD (HOST): yeah oh and it's sad because like you said I mean Africa is as varying as different parts of the United States can be we we still pretty much have sound and solid water delivery and electricity
MICHELLE JEWSBURY: but parts of Africa still do not many parts of Africa where we work in both Sierra Leone the mass majority of people we work with they don't have running water and they don't have electricity you know our girls are trapped in the brothels even if they no longer participate in sex work there's no housing for them so then the brothels serve as an apartment complex but they're so disgusting there's no water there's no electricity the toilet systems are so bad that some of the girls keep getting reoccurring STIs because of sanitation and this is mind boggling to think about coming from a first-world nation that there are countries there are places out there where these these people are not treated as human beings and I know you know in America people need help as well I go to different parts of the United States and it feels like it's a third world country however in every city in the United States they have access to running water they have access typically to some toiletries and a toilet area there's access to housing yes they got to put in work in other countries there's there's no access to any of this right and that kind of leads me back
JOSEPH M LENARD (HOST): to my care strikebook my personal philosophy has been and therefore I have my character say it in there things could always be better but they can often be worse with what we have here we take for granted and yes it could be worse here but think how much worse indeed others in other areas of the planet have it before we wine moan and complain so much that it could be so much worse
MICHELLE JEWSBURY: yeah so this is why we need your help so if you're listening to this podcast unsilenced voices was founded in 2017 we do a lot of work with sex workers with individuals who have experienced sexual defilement human trafficking domestic violence a lot of our girls are anywhere between the ages of 11 one of the youngest ones up to like 35 years old and all of these people need your help we also work with men we work with two villages in Sierra Leone and then we also published a curriculum called graced for prosperity here in the United States where people who have experienced extreme violence like domestic violence can learn using this curriculum how to find you know financial prosperity how to overcome their challenges and then in 2022 we also gifted 33,000 dollars to usa survivors did a four city tour so we need help one of our next goals is to build a school with housing component in Sierra Leone and then in the United States a day center with wraparound services and emergency housing in the Tampa area so you know the us it's about 2.2 million in Sierra Leone it's about 150,000 we need both so the 150 is going to probably come sooner because it's easier to obtain 150 than it is 2.2 but you never know right and are you aware of a site
JOSEPH M LENARD (HOST): called story rocket no I am not okay it is a site where people who are authors can put their books to get it in front of movie producers potentially to adapt into a screen adaptation and I'm thinking remember what sound of freedom did for human trafficking perhaps a small independent studio might pick up and put out an unsilenced voices or a breaking the silence movie as another aspect of or just one of the aspects and that would greatly lift all those voices yeah and I've
MICHELLE JEWSBURY: actually thought about using my first book but I love him and finding a screenwriter so that we can come up with a script and pitch to some publishers, promoters, producers, directors I know a handful of people because of me living in LA for so long but that definitely would bring even more exposure especially to domestic violence and as we're speaking I know that Blake lively just did a film called it ends with us about domestic violence and I saw the film it was a great film she did a great job typically domestic violence looks a little different because it's worse the type of individual she was dealing with was more of a narcissist and I don't think that he would have let her go so easily however they did a good job of portraying what domestic violence could look like and it's important for people to realize that one in four women in the US one in seven men in the US experience domestic violence worldwide one in three women this does not include any of the sexual defilement the 200,000 kids that are being trafficked in our borders in the United States or the over two million children worldwide that are being trafficked so it is important to bring advocacy and awareness to a lot of important topics yeah why would urge you to engage you
JOSEPH M LENARD (HOST): don't have to find a screenwriter they can find one for you yeah if you put your book on story rocket.com indeed someone might gravitate to it as I said my terror strikes coming soon to a scene near you is still up there I'm still shopping it hoping because that book is yes about terrorism but it's really not about death it's about life and living and I want somebody to pick that up to show that aspect of it rather than it be like a clampsy book movie about terrorism a different angle on it to tell a different story and your first book I can indeed envision people being interested in it and a whole lot of people watch that story rocket site and you might get picked
MICHELLE JEWSBURY: up that way I think that that would be a good option so I definitely will look at that thank you so
JOSEPH M LENARD (HOST): much for the recommendation oh you're you're most welcome having you on is not all about just me helping to promote my show which about obviously being able to help you as the guest further promote your projects and what you're doing it it's not a quid pro pro but you know it's an unspoken thing in podcasting I mean we should help each other yes that's the way it definitely should be for sure we've mentioned it a few times but let's give out your two sites again where to find you
MICHELLE JEWSBURY: yeah definitely so before we end I would love to leave your audience members with something important I know that we've talked about some heavy topics today so there's a movie called Finding Nemo it's uh I always end every podcast interview with the same way because it's very important in finding Nemo Nemo gets lost and Nemo's dad goes out and tries to find Nemo well Nemo along his journey he meets a fish called Dory and Dory is an airhead so Dory every 15 seconds forgets what what where she's going what she's doing however the one thing that she keeps singing to herself is just keep swimming and I want everybody to remember that despite what it is that you're going through just keep swimming because you don't have to stay stuck in those circumstances it's your choice to break free and it will be your choice to determine how those experiences define who you are or how you get to define those experiences you can find me at michellejusbury.com again michelle jusbury j-e-w-s-b-u-r-y.com you can also find information about unsilenced voices on that site or go directly to unsilenced voices.org again unsilenced you and s-i-l-e-m-c-e-d v-o-i-c-e-s.org thank you so much joseph. Oh you're welcome and of course links to those
JOSEPH M LENARD (HOST): will be in the show notes to share with everyone and I'm glad you ended I like the finding Nemo Dory kind of angle there that's a wonderful way to put it because even you know I don't I never had kids but I still love cartoons. Yeah. So yes I've definitely seen finding Nemo and that is indeed a good way to share it and indeed if you're an adult without children or grandkids or you know little cousins that you babysit to put on finding Nemo watch it anyway because now you've got a new lens to view that through the Michelle here. Oh and I meant to tease you as I my sister's name is Michelle. Okay parents were a big Beatles fan so I was named after the Beatles song MeSHELLE MY BELL as well. Okay exactly where I was going with that so yeah I'll tell my sister indeed there's another Michelle my beLL running around out there because of the Beatles song so thank you for coming by I hope uh if someone or everyone has gotten something from this broadcast maybe if you yourself don't feel you got something think of someone you know that needs to hear what we talked about today and share this episode on video or audio whatever with them help others that's in part what my show is about helping ourselves and as Christians wanting as our own personal commandment to be our brother's keeper through community not forced communism we are to want to help others not be forced to help others. Wonderful take care of us see you next time wait wait wait wait don't go away yet I thought of something that I should have brought up with Michelle that uh didn't enter my mind at the time and to be quite honest I just came from the local ice cream shop and they had a song on an old 50s or 60s song remember the I can help song I don't remember who does it didn't think it's important enough to bother to look it up but that reminded me now that is more or less kind of a love song and love letter or a die to a gal who sure do me good to do you good let me help okay let's take that in the abstract that's an important concept here it goes along with what Michelle and I were discussing would sure do me good to do you good I can help or let me help right religious or not most people understand the concept of karma it's not always viewed in the right way but human nature if you exude happiness you're bound to get some of it back or mostly that back if your partner covers the kids hair ears and asshole all the time why would you then be surprised that if negativity is what you get back most of the time so the point being no matter how down in the dumps we are we may be indeed putting on that facade that imminent front to quote another song Townsend in the who at least on occasion to try to pretend to be happy so we get happy back in return and that happy we get back in return which is why I like to joke a lot with people brings smiles back it helps ourselves when we can help others to be uplifted and happier and better off on their day so that's not to say of course you can't vent we all have to at times vent my point being though is that if you always vent if you're always negative if you're always dragging others down don't be surprised why nobody wants to be around you so you can help yourself by putting on that front and helping others right giving others a smile even when you're not necessarily happy oh let's just smile back often which indeed can then make you feel better a lame pun as you know me as jokes or Joe on savage done filtered and I can't avoid the lame puns even lame stupid humor let me give you a joke I tell a lot in restaurants I've never shared it with the audience yet there's a coffee manufacturer you know more industrial side type coffee makers by the name of bun B-U-N-N now I'm sure it's a plenty wonderful whatever the origin of the heritage of that last name is perfectly fine however think shmuckers right shmuckers knew that oh boy this this name might be an issue so the brilliance of their ad strategy of whether a name like shmuckers it has to be good absolutely brilliant but at any rate the bun company and their coffee makers that are in a lot of restaurants that I whenever I see one I always joke with the wait staff and even sometimes the customers in there look at the name of the coffee maker I don't understand why anyone would want coffee that has been filtered through somebody's buns but I'm bum right dumb lame joke potty humor but it still can elicit a smile back and guess what it might even then trigger them to want to tell you a joke maybe just as lame maybe better but you know if they indeed share a joke that then earnestly can trigger a laugh in you you're helping others then helps you it makes the world a better place karma in that sense right if you surround yourself with upbeat people it helps you be more upbeat and if you're indeed like I suffer anxiety and stress still and indeed bouts of depression it sure does me good to do you good let me help right I crack a lame bun coffee maker joke it elicits a positive response 99 times out of 100 and bad and turn indeed earnestly and honestly helps me feel better and I didn't think of that while speaking with Michelle it's part of this whole overall thing now again with the book that I spoke with Michelle about again this is not to say you cannot and should not share your story at time but if that's what you're on all about all the time negative you're going to dwell in that negativity all the time and make yourself worse you're going to make others around you worse which in turn feeds the cycle they down in the dumps when they're around you then makes you even more down in the dumps so indeed I bet you know I'm going to say it right at any rate indeed that karma in that sense 10 matter it doesn't have to be tied to a religious notion just the concept of karma in that sense is you often get what you give right it isn't going to be true all the time you could be positive and somebody else having a bad day make react badly react negatively we're human we're all frail we're all flawed we all have bad days the point of this is trying to avoid having a bad day every single day of the week in month and year and decade so indeed help others help yourself and again in closing of segment two here again you don't know what tomorrow will bring into you carpe diemit I as we discussed suicide attempt survivor it took many years for me to then see that what would have been missing if I'd have been gone and my family needed my help being here also so many years later an amazon bestseller now obviously you may or may not write a book or record an album back to the point like with Michelle little things matter and unless Clarence like in this a wonderful life comes down to try to earn his wings and show you all those little things you didn't pay attention to remember it's a wonderful life yes you stop the drug is from poisoning a kid which ruined multiple family lives it's a movie it's a movie it's meant to be overly dramatic to make the point you may never do anything that big that granda scale but little things matter you don't see it you don't notice it doesn't mean it isn't there it isn't happening that you are adding value to other people's lives and again a year from now five years from now 10 years from now you never know what might come your way what you might accomplish in life later or equally as important by helping others the pankeying thing again two friends self two friends still two the other lives you touch you indirectly affect that book coming out that album coming out that person as I spoke with Michelle that person's son or daughter curing cancer that guess what that little trickle down effect it wouldn't have happened if not for maybe just something silly stupid from you you think little and unimportant at the time that really is matters every drop in the ocean matters to building up the overall mass okay uh I went a lot longer in the second segment than I expected but being at the uh the sweet shop I just felt like I I had to cover this thank you all I I'm not sure if the video froze on your side of things or not but it froze on my side thank you all take care god bless have a good day gang a brief interruption in the show about Christmas giving tangus sorta or to ask are you coffee drinker what about other coffee drinkers you know it's indeed Christmas giving [ChristiTutionalist Politics podcast begin Show intro]
JOSEPH M LENARD (HOST): welcome to the show everyone front Brock and as my audience knows you don't know Trent we're just meeting each other for the first time today I can't resist lame puns so I am now for the rest of the day gonna have a brain warm you know the Bob Seager song like a rock it was in the old Chevy truck commercials like a rock I think you need to commission someone to do a song parody for you like a Brock huh huh huh you should be my working agent I'm got a position open as well and as we joke before although cancer is no laughing matter we got to keep a sense of humor for my audience as I told you you win I only had cancer once you've had it three times you're the winner you get the trophy and then go ahead a few more categories as well I probably win too yeah we will we will be discussing overcoming adversity today that's why you're here but the third kind of lame pun bad humor can't pass on jokes is leading before hitting record I was joking you asked me how things were going and I said busier than a one-legged man and an ass kicking contest is the saying goes and your response was that kind of fits the scene because I almost
TRENT BROCK: had my leg amputated and it's and it's shorter than the other again not really a laughing matter
JOSEPH M LENARD (HOST): but you know if we don't laugh we'll cry ourselves to death right well I think I think the last stage
TRENT BROCK: of being able to accept something like that is if you can make a joke about it and laugh about it
JOSEPH M LENARD (HOST): you're over it right oh I'm in the rear view man I'm so glad you mentioned that because I have a couple of shows that I discuss it's Christitucional politics I usually don't go into politics with my guests unless if they bring it up a rabbit hole presents itself but in my normal Saturday monologue politics releases I have discussed a couple times that getting someone to come to grips with a political wrong you know something they they just don't know the facts don't have the evidence on is like mourning the old Rick Springfield has an album the stages of grief grief shock denial anger acceptance and indeed if you can reach acceptance through laughing about a situation that that is great that is a bonus because you uplift others also through that and again why you're here to discuss overcoming adversity well we've rambled for like four minutes now completely off topic oh let's get to who you are though first and foremost who are you we know your Trent Brock and like I said like a Brock anyway who are you where are you what is your life about oh let me give you a
TRENT BROCK: quick and dirty here well my name is Trent Brock I'm originally from North Louisiana Shreveport Louisiana and when I graduated from college I moved to the big city of Dallas and I was an IT software expert consultant traveled all over the country installing large IT systems then I started doing that internationally and ended up on the bottom end of the world in the small beautiful also country of New Zealand was doing IT work there was in the boxing gym randomly met some American guys that had traveled down there to prepare for some matches their manager was a serial entrepreneur and he did craft market outdoor kettle corn in his home state of Washington well you know through some training and talk in and everything we figured out they didn't have kettle corn in
JOSEPH M LENARD (HOST): New Zealand and who doesn't love kettle corn me actually but don't I'm weird so don't judge it on me well that's obvious right yeah hey if we're not willing to poke fun at ourselves we shouldn't poke fun at others please proceed kettle corn in New Zealand right so we started we started a kettle corn
TRENT BROCK: business on the weekends I was doing IT during the week popcorn on the weekends this thing blew up we were just going out to the local fairs the local markets you know then we started getting contracts like with the rugby stadium and and event companies and etc etc fast forward 14 years we became the number two popcorn manufacturer in the country supplied all the supermarkets internationally like Singapore, Malaysia, the Middle East etc two factories one on the about size of a football field inside massive deal right and everything was great you know on top of what I like to call popcorn heaven you know I spent a lot of time as a small business owner in my factory and that was my place popcorn heaven well in the in the spring of 2019 I started um went around the factory go to several doctors and they kept telling me the same thing you got a torn butt muscle finally went into the hospital to have some blood work done totally unrelated and the doctor said you need you need to get an x-ray for this whatever okay well okay sure well I'm glad we did because she actually saved my life she called me a week later on my way to lunch leaving popcorn heaven and said you know it was one of those calls that you've gotten one of those you know it knocks you over and it's the call that changes your life and that was I had extensive hip bone cancer with a quarter inch of bone holding my leg on it any every any every step I took I was in danger of breaking the leg if I broke the leg it was gonna come off couldn't believe I haven't broken the leg already get into the hospital right now that was my entry into the cancer journey it's public health care in New Zealand so you know with anything with the government it's free but yeah right yeah services average normally and it's slow so the process would be we're gonna we're gonna do some tests and scans and x-rays we're going to prepare an implant then we'll go in and put the implant in well every time they were getting ready to do that the cancer progressed the implant wouldn't fit third time well we're gonna cut your leg off I lost it I lost it my parents were on the phone luckily I got into the point where I would have them on the calls you know most of my important calls and my dad stepped in and just said you're not cutting this guy's leg off he's a fighter he's not a queer he will make this work you don't know this guy give him a chance and so the doctor reluctantly came back and about a week later and said we'll leave the leg I won't guarantee function I won't guarantee feeling it's gonna be shorter than the other he's gonna be handicapped for the rest of his life he'll never walk again if you want me to leave the leg I will but his light his quality life will be better without it my dad said we don't care leave it you can cut off later so they left it exactly
JOSEPH M LENARD (HOST): you can only do it once you can't put it back you could put it artificial but once you go that far you've gone that far now before we get back to the seriousness you mentioned popcorn heaven I like movies so I spent I like regular theater popcorn so I spent a lot of time at my local mjr on free popcorn two things but that's an aside anyway you know here I'm talking now about movies and theater popcorn while you're in the middle of I almost lost my leg
TRENT BROCK: well I'll tell you you know this is kind of like a bad movie with with an okay ending right
JOSEPH M LENARD (HOST): so there you go yeah and you mentioned no law New Orleans uh do you know gee stuff the rapper I'm like I don't know maybe I'm not sure he he's originally from New Orleans and I did a show with him so maybe sometime you could check out Christi tuchelos politics politics and find the gee stuff uh discussion I had with him about New Orleans and you can have have some nostalgia for New Orleans through my discussion with Gista the rapper at any rate that's a verbal crutch I use I kind of say tongue the cheek now jokingly poking fun at my verbal crutch but back to the leg literal crutch
TRENT BROCK: did you have to use crutches for a while and whatnot uh yes so the leg the the the the cancer removal was the surgery was successful but the leg was infected the third time it was well well I had about six or seven surgeries to get rid of the infection never happened okay and uh we did you know IV antibiotics etc etc finally after about four months you know it's good enough they let me out of the hospital so I was a wow yeah wow yeah that's a long stay oh man it gets it's it
JOSEPH M LENARD (HOST): I got I got even more time in there yeah I when I was in for my APL leukemia Carmano's cancer center in Detroit I was in for a month for treatment so I mean you know when stir crazy at about a month because there's like three four channels on the tv uh you're stuck in that bed what are you gonna do although you know these days with smartphones and you could did you have a laptop or anything with you to help
TRENT BROCK: past time absolutely so this is public health care right so in that's it in that setting there's four people in a room your privacy is pulled the curtain you hear everything about everybody they know everything about everything about all the tests run about everything you talk about it's no there's no privacy you can't get any sleep and they ran out of budget there's no
JOSEPH M LENARD (HOST): TVs yeah free there's no such thing as free corners have to be cut and people pay for it somehow some way otherwise no such thing is free and like you said but yet some people want to bring forced like warehousing health care to the america and I don't get that and again not to go down the political road either yeah but but uh nachi germany was the one that kind of invented socialized medicine and it wasn't about health care it's about power and control over the people but at any rate that again this show is often about politics I've discussed it before so just put that out there please keep the four in a room and everybody knows everybody's business
TRENT BROCK: go on sure so just to give people an idea this is this is what they did so this is where they removed you can see this is the normal hip side okay now they removed all of the hip there for that's the wire that's a little wire they put in to keep the leg from going up okay for for purposes
JOSEPH M LENARD (HOST): of the transcript because this is mainly an audio only show right front show to picture if you want to see the picture to see what all was done and he's holding up an actual uh uh test of the hip bone now if you want to see that go to big shoot brightie on rumble youtube at jlunder detroit video channel to see the behind the scenes sneak peek video you'll be able to see that
TRENT BROCK: please continue sure so uh mom and dad went home i got a hospital mom and dad went home and i just continued on with my life trying to get back to normal but you know working the whole time i never stopped working since i owned the company right uh had meetings you know people would come into the into the hospital with me you know have meetings and suppliers whatever second next scan i get i have pancreatic and lung cancer okay so the pancreatic is obviously the more serious of the two and that's a less than five percent chance survival so i uh in between the the diagnosis and the surgery covid hit and they locked us down in new zealot right so no one can come in or come out well you could leave it not come back uh you couldn't go anywhere we were locked in our homes so you know this the next several surgeries i had were alone
JOSEPH M LENARD (HOST): in awe so i had to think so there was one silver lining to the wuhan hysteria there you actually got some private care right and it's it was the opposite of hotel california by the angles where they say you could check out but you can never leave in your case if you left bye bye can't come
TRENT BROCK: back good luck stay in awe that's right yeah so you know my family couldn't come or you know no support from that from that um angle had the pancreas surgery right successful but when we went uh on the debrief the they kind of tried to spin it on me and said well congratulations you don't have cancer and i'm like well what happened they removed half of my pangars and spleen for a mistaken diagnosis of a blood clot instead of a tumor okay oh boy no no consequences it's public they don't care they don't care okay so okay let's just take the positive out of this you're lying you beat it but obviously there's going to be some health concerns and issues you know ongoing because you don't have some of the stuff that you were born with okay yeah next surgery lung you know do the lung surgery that was successful but that got infected and the orthopedic doctor had found out this is about a year from when i had the initial hip hip surgery for the cancer the orthopedic said hey look you know we need to go in and take that wire out i had been avoided i didn't want to go back i wasn't going to do anything else i've been avoiding but i was in the hospital all alone under you know the influence of narcotics and pain medication and blah blah blah and everything and he came in and said we're going to take out that wire it's causing the infection okay well i thought he was going to do the surgery a junior surgeon did the surgery and botched it up
JOSEPH M LENARD (HOST): terribly okay oh my god yeah you know well you are a walking talking testament in my opinion again to get political i'm blatantly going to go there socialized medicine what the hell is a matter with you people why the hell do you want that listen to what this man is saying
TRENT BROCK: yeah so uh calls you know little nerve bladder issues where i think i need to go to the bathroom and you can imagine trying to get up and down all night with this infected leg that's shorter than the other etc right um calls a surgical hernia now this is my hip this is my hip area my left hip oh my god they cut me from all the way like from you know here all the way to here that's that's just the the hip area but no hip that's my intestine okay oh my god now now for people you can see the
JOSEPH M LENARD (HOST): video it's it's not ultra graphic but uh to insert a transcript description his hip literally looks like it was hit by a semi-trunk buck and is indented permanently yeah it looks like somebody took him a shatty to me there you go that's an even better metaphor analogy they they were concerned
TRENT BROCK: that it was never going to heal up they didn't think it was ever going to heal up and may you know by the grace of god and amirpley it did so with the fire removed it caused this problem so this is where the leg bone was originally this is where it moved to the top of it so you can see that's where my leg bone normally would be it's moved four inches up okay oh my god this is the shoe i had to wear oh my you look like you're a member of kiss
JOSEPH M LENARD (HOST): the record right that's like a almost a six inch platform shoe you look like you're jean Simmons you have the tongue can you we bleed your tongue you don't want it it might get infected don't try that at home yeah so i'm so glad you have a sense of humor i don't i mean you know i'm still here man i'm still here that's all that matters right now now i'm going to have the elk john song i'm still standing better than i ever did in my head so now i get two brainworm songs in my head because of you which you know not bad there's worse songs that the Rebecca Black Friday Friday annoying song but now that i've said it that'll be in my head we need a rick roll right you know what a rick roll is where you randomly insert the oh what is that song uh never gonna give you okay yeah yeah right i think it is rick essaly yeah rick roll i do i know that i i i do a Rebecca roll on social media i take the friday song and just randomly inserted in discussions the video for her for annoying friday song with the hashtag Rebecca rolled but anyway my bad lame humor insertion again i apologize again you're a great guy i i would love to meet you in person you've got a great sense of humor and again if we don't keep a sense of humor we'll be curled up in the corner in the fetal position sucking on us some just waiting to die that's it so uh you know a couple
TRENT BROCK: months in the hospital you know i was expected to be a couple weeks um you know in the reinfection remained got out you know still just trying to get back to normal life back to work doing my thing the next scan you really do have pancreas cancer this time for sure oh god okay okay right so you know i said this time i want to biopsy we need to prove it because last time you wouldn't allow it you wouldn't approve it you wouldn't do it and you know if we do remove the pancreas that that's you know that's creates a surgical diabetic and you know issues with digest digestion i didn't want to live like that can we just zap the thing so it was this discussion over several months of trying to get the biopsy done and done it out of that and everything so again
JOSEPH M LENARD (HOST): again the shortcomings of socialized medicine they they just want to you know dictate whatever just we think this so we're just going to go ahead and remove it uh no prove to me it must be removed what are the other options absolutely exactly exactly
TRENT BROCK: when they found it on the scan it was that big the size of two nickels put together okay in four months it had grown to the size of a tennis ball oh boy i was losing weight i couldn't eat i was sick all the time i was i look like death i could look in the mirror and honestly i'm like you're dying this is killing me you look like a skeleton oh man i mean you know just pale as a ghost you know i mean it was bad and you know steel dealing with this infected leg and dragging this thing around and the pain is just you know almost unbearable you know limited limited pain management resources etc and so i went to a private i went to a private doctor like my times or not i can't wait if i wait around this i'm just going to wait and die so i went to a private doctor and he said look based on your scans it's growing into your stomach and it's too risky for us to do anything and we want we're i won't recommend anything for you and i said well well with sir you know like with treatment for pancreatic cancer with treatment it's less than a 5% chance to survive you're telling me go home with no treatment and maybe maybe not i'm like you're telling me go home and die man and he said there's nothing i can do for you so i went on and i started to spiral down right i started i was like you know maybe this is just yeah i'm just you know i'm tired i'm starting to give up i'm all alone it you know i mean i don't i don't have you know insurance in the states i'm going to just this i mean this is what's going to happen this eventually is just going to kill me so i after an appointment with the nut with with the with the public health care doctor and i was on the phone with my folks you know i started to feel you know they were strum they've been strong the whole time supportive you know never bought into the negativity you know everything i can feel it i can sense it they were starting to give up you know they were like our son's going to die with nothing we can do the hopelessness the hopelessness the despair and i said you know what i had a friend about a year before i had started this whole cancer thing die of kids are left despite the kids okay then i had a buddy about six months before that a good friend he had a restaurant that we went to almost every day on the beach okay got sideways with bankrupt and went out in the woods and off themselves and you know what the the sadness of watching these parents bury their child and i'm like i don't care about me anymore but i got to do something i got it i got it i'm gonna i'm gonna try for my parents i'm gonna try this i'm just not gonna give up i'm not gonna fill it so
JOSEPH M LENARD (HOST): i uh i've done several episodes my book terror strikes coming soon to a city near you has a suicide prevention sub-threaded it i am a suicide attempt survivor myself so this is near and dear to me and i've done several shows all life has meaning you may not see it at any particular moment in time and i am so glad that you came to that realization indeed it's not selfishness right it's not just about us it's about others like with my leukemia i like you was resigned to my fate was not going to seek treatment and was planning to die was going to make hospice arrangements but my sister got on the phone with my ex-wife and kind of you know you talk to him so yes i agreed and obviously i'm still here you're still here you don't know what tomorrow will bring them to you carpe diem right today may not be your day next week next once next year next decade you don't know and i indeed went from suicide attempt survivor and cancer survivor to number one political thriller amazon bestseller you don't know and now you're here your story of overcoming adversity is meant as an inspiration story like in my care strikes coming soon to a city near you book i've had the philosophy for for years and i have my character say it things could always be better but they could often be worse and i think even you recognize in your darkest days things could have been worse right i don't fear death but i do fear a painful long contracted agonizing death it could be worse you didn't have tons of pain right you said you had issues eating and obviously life was not enjoyable but you weren't in a massive amount of pain were you
TRENT BROCK: oh i was an immense pain chronic horribly terrible pain i mean it's just unbearable every step i took anytime i rolled over in the bed trying to get in and out of the car i mean just all i mean you know anytime you moved that leg it hurt because it was infected you know with with with an area
JOSEPH M LENARD (HOST): about that big of infection and fluid you're you're holding up for the visual on the transcript and the audio only a little bigger than a softball smaller than a volleyball but yeah uh even then uh it's hard to imagine that it could be any worse but it possibly could and again you overcame
TRENT BROCK: this adversity that's right yep so you know i realized my options in New Zealand are done i run out and um you know i started brainstorming with with my parents and my dad said you know a lot of the health care rules and guidelines have changed since you've lived here i didn't think i
JOSEPH M LENARD (HOST): can get i didn't think i could get insurance oh bomb i care right well yeah the affordable
TRENT BROCK: guitar so i thought you know i was done i was done for with no um with pre-existing conditions and my you know practically i just thought about it practically i'm not going to come home bankrupt all my friends and family and die on them right so do you want to be sad you'll be sad and broke or just sad well i think it's better to just be sad so you know i'm going to croak in New Zealand and ship me home in a box you know okay right well we kind of figured out that that it was a possibility and it's expensive but it doesn't break the bank it's a portal it's not going to bankrupt you right you know there's a limit there's a limit to how much you're going to have to spend right and so i came home and um you know i i've been given a year to live i have been told by all of my surgeons from my from you know my pancreatic doctor to my lung doctor to my orthopedic they all told me you're done for this is going to get you you've had a good run enjoy the look the year you have left well i couldn't go anywhere it was covid i couldn't go anywhere i couldn't do anything though you know i was like well i'd like to go travel or go on a cruise or whatever well i said well i'm going to go home it's been time with my folks and i thought you know what i'm on this new i'm on this new mission i'm not i'm going to keep trying until my last breath so i decided you know what i'm just going to go to the local clinic here in northwest Arkansas where my folks live i researched it i could go anywhere in the country let's start here they've got a good pocket of health care you know the waltons are here wal-mart's here big companies are here and they are building out you know world-class health care here let's start here okay so i went to the local clinic and you know went to the radiologist and he just said look you know um we need to we need to zap this thing pretty quick or yeah it's going to kill you i said what about all these concerns in New Zealand and all this and that and very humbly he said we have pretty good machinery here and um i think we can get this thing and if we don't rent it's
JOSEPH M LENARD (HOST): going to kill you yeah again that's the socialized medicine limitations rationing of care cutting corners on costs they can't and won't spend for the latest and greatest of wonderful modern medicine we have in america but yet some people want to destroy that and i don't get that but anyway please
TRENT BROCK: continue well just just on that note it's a business right it's absolutely a bit i mean it's a business privately and it's a bit but but the thing with private okay and i don't want to get too far into this but the thing with private is there's consequences right if you screw up you can get sued and no one wants to do that well in the public thing they make decisions based on finances with no consequences so i know i know that you know looking back they will just run away me out i was a statistic i was nothing they didn't want they wouldn't spend any more time with me they didn't want to spend any more money on me when i would go in to see the doctor they would give me the junior junior like a guy that wasn't even a native english speaker they could barely speak english that would read the report all off the thing and just say well you've got a pancreas cancer and they want to do surgery uh you need to pick a date i'm like it you know it's just you know there's no there's no service there's no customization there's no nothing it's just like that you know hundred people in the waiting room you get four or five minutes they're trying to rush you in and out as fast as they can they don't care i had to fight i had to fight just to get in to see the head surgeon to make any getting decisions made right so anyways anyways i'm back here and we went and decided to do radiation and it was the size of a softball when they zapped it okay wow had to wait several months clear we're clear okay um did some immunotherapy after that to ensure we didn't have anything to spread metastatically like it had done in new zealand which was a smart move um so that was good and then i was like well i'm alive for my parents but i want to walk for me this is what i'm going to do for me okay so i've got to get rid of this infection to do anything with this hip you know and i have been told you're never going to walk again there's so much removed you'll there's nothing to put anything there nothing's ever been done 99 of the people they cut their leg off this is this just they there's no you know they didn't recommend any physical therapy there's nothing for me i had to do yeah all there's no support all this is on my own because i'm in a position where almost no one
JOSEPH M LENARD (HOST): and pass this right yeah are you and that's the other thing with socialized medicine they don't have the research dollars the wonders of miracle medicine in our country yes it's expensive some drugs very expensive research takes time energy money i'm thinking in my mind now as you're going through this about infection infection infection well we've made leaps and bounds in antibiotic antiviral did that ultimately work or was it something else that
TRENT BROCK: absolutely so um you know i was really i was going to die i was going to doctors and i kept getting told no you've had this chronic infection you know we have to do something about this or you know there's nothing to bolt anything to found a doctor again here in northwest Arkansas in my network okay found a guy and he said we're going to try these antibiotics i did a three-month course of id any bionics two hours a day every single day made me sick like i've been going through chemo i was just sick as a dog terrible i did an extra month longer than anyone else has ever done you know i was like right on the edge of all you know like the tolerability right but but so um it worked it worked right um and so then it's like okay i you know i had the test run i had the scans done i had all that stuff done and um we're clear so let's look for a doctor well again you know i'm looking looking looking can't find anybody i have a check up i have a checkup catch up with my again northwest Arkansas orthopedic advisor and he said look if you want to try to walk again you know you're really the only one that's out that'll ever have done this there's a guy
JOSEPH M LENARD (HOST): at Mayo Clinic hey there's always a first right there's always a first yeah thank you for being
TRENT BROCK: a trailblazer that's right that's right you know everybody remembers the first and the last no one remembers the middle right so um this guy had worked with him and and he and he specializes in hips and knees that no one else will try this guy loves a challenge you know you know going on the edge but you know all that kind of thing and i had already been to Mayo right and Mayo said well Mayo told me no already and i said well you know and he said well you haven't talked to this guy you have to see this guy i'm giving you a personal referral this is your guy okay so we went to Mayo and we we started a we're in the middle of a three part surgery the first one the first one we prepped everything and got it ready and fixed that that huge hernia so that looks normal again and got it ready and back in July we put in the largest most complex hip and plant ever done in the world with procedures that have never been attempted on any one ever and this this is what a normal hip looks like you can see that this is what mine looks like oh you look
JOSEPH M LENARD (HOST): like an erector set i'm sorry to go to the lame humor again but yeah i mean your midsection that area you look like you're uh you know Austin Powers not Austin Powers Steve Austin six million dollar man comes to mind right do you look like an erector set put you together that's it that's yeah and again for those listening on audio again you can go to bitch chute brighteon rumble youtube at jlunder Detroit see the video you want to see these images Trent Brock is sharing with us
TRENT BROCK: this right here okay this little weird looking thing is the multi-million dollar piece that they put in to hold all those screws and bolts together so i've got about eight eight screws in me that some of them span all the way across my pelvis from you know from one side to the other and this little thing fits in here like this i've got i've got rods in my spine and basically you know just quite simply this is an air and engine air and engine experiment on human that's all this is
JOSEPH M LENARD (HOST): yeah and again like you said somebody's got to be the first somebody was the first heart transplant somebody was the first pacemaker ah person you were the first for this and again pardoned the lame humor but again you've got such a great sense of humor so they basically said screw you and you
TRENT BROCK: said yeah use lots of screws exactly right so um this is the size shoe that i wear now i didn't get all my link back because if they stretch everything too much it can paralyze the nerves and the and everything so i got a couple inches back and i got functionality i got i got balance and stability and and this leg is improving i'm on you know i've been on two crutches i've been on two crutches or a wheelchair for over five years i am on one crutch now and i'm close i'll be on a cane soon then i'll be on nothing and if i want to down the road the third surgery optional they go in they cut the femur okay and they do a bone lengthening thing that they do on people that maybe if it been born you know with uneven legs or a car crash or something like that right so that's an option down the road um but either way okay i know that just with this little shoe that i'm
JOSEPH M LENARD (HOST): wearing now i'll be walking soon i'm going to walk that's great and you probably should maintain a cane through the rest of your life just as a precautionary you know side thing that there's liable at some point in time that you're now as you get older than obviously your sense of balance and everything then starts to go especially with everything you've been through so uh for for your sake i i would highly recommend you know you you may not like the visual of having a cane the rest of your life but you're on the right side of the lawn that's the saying
TRENT BROCK: goes right hey man canes are cool canes are cool right crutches aren't so cool right canes you go with an outfit they're they're you know they they can be an accessory right right and and
JOSEPH M LENARD (HOST): it can make you a handy weapon if you should need it what else self-defense self-defense
TRENT BROCK: i'm well i'm kind of you know i'm indestructible but you know well all the metal i got right oh
JOSEPH M LENARD (HOST): you know that brings to mind another movie yeah invincible right did you see that movie with uh Bruce Willis and Samuel Jackson with the guy he's the one under the spectrum with the brittle bone syndrome and right Bruce Willis plays the guy supposedly indestructible so yeah i'm glad you brought that up and another aside another rabbit hole i of course i have a bad tendency to do this with rabbit holes as they pop up yes i talked to sigh on the other day again this show is not scripted i do minimal research as i said with sigh i i just want to know your basic story what you're coming on for overcoming adversity i knew none of this i didn't want to not because i don't care about you but because it provides a free flowing conversation you go with the flow
TRENT BROCK: where the rabbit holes open you go down them sure sure you know um it when i had that talk with my parents you know a couple years ago and i made that decision right um you know i made a decision at that point to change a lot of things and i started you know it the first couple years you know i just kind of was moving along and i just thought well this will be the last time i'm just going to get on with life and it just kept coming up right and it's like well you know it's hit me and had enough times you need to make a change so i started changing you know the obvious things right started you know changing my diet and i didn't do drastic things i didn't go anything crazy i just made sensible choices i started exercising and making choices with my life like i was going to have a future for example exercise and working on this leg because i was planning on doing something even though i had been told by everyone you'll never walk again right and then you know my mindset i had to do a lot of work on my mindset i'm a practical guy i'm a facts guy you know it's just i'm a realist everyone's telling me this you know this is over etc and i had to really work on that with you know i have i'm in control of this i'm the quarterback of this
JOSEPH M LENARD (HOST): game yeah well why you well you can't have control of right don't select the things you can't control focus on the things you can't and i've got a suggestion you joked about me becoming your PR guy your marketing guy i've got a suggestion get with your formal former kettle corn buddies and in the future i want to see the Trent Brock walkathon oh that's a good idea yeah yeah bringing
TRENT BROCK: awareness sure sure i actually you know i'm a volunteer with my local uh cancer um organization called the cancer challenge and um we do a huge thing and you know we have a whole bunch of a whole bunch of we have a week where we do golf and pickleball and all these tournaments and and one the last thing is they do a walk right they do a walk and you know i do my volunteering and then on the last Saturday morning i go do the walk so i'm hoping this year i'm good enough to do the walk i would try one mylar without any crutches but hey it it'll be a very
JOSEPH M LENARD (HOST): slow walkathon but hey right amen oh i really oh i really mean it when i say i will be praying on this one day i want to know about and i hope i could be a part of it in some way after mentioning it the Trent Brock walkathon yeah oh that would be so wonderful and i i hate i think we've gone pretty much through everything i try not to do too long the show so i do want to wrap it up if people want to reach out to you where do they get to you do you have a website i we found each other through podcast guest list but do you have a website things like that are you considering writing a book i have a book called how to write a book and get it published well i see you reaching for something so yeah there it is all right yay tell us about the book and then where to reach you
TRENT BROCK: um well look yeah i was invited to co-author in this book called breaking the silence voices of survivors i i have a chapter in this book about how i overcame how i overcame cancer and there's other authors in a book that talk about you know their situation and how they overcame things um the way you can get in touch with me is you know i don't have a website up up quite yet i just sold my popcorn business about two months ago and i'm moving into kind of my own thing with inspirational speaking and um like patient advocate slash cancer uh journey coaching um and so you know you can get in touch with me Trent Brock at yahoo.com very easy or i'm on facebook linked in uh instagram and i'm doing the victory pose like this that's my that's my profile photo you it's easy you see it you'll see me because you know i'm winning man we're winning right we're still here we're still here to fight and we're winning yeah so i would love to talk to anybody if i can help them in any way um yeah you know my my calling is to tell my story and help people and um you know that's what i'm out here trying to do and so i appreciate you letting me be on your platform yeah
JOSEPH M LENARD (HOST): and reach people that i haven't yet you know yeah one of the things i'm the author oh i hold more than three dozen copyrights but i have three and june christituchelous politics to the book will drop i have will have four internationally available books one of the irons i have in the fire is under the working title living hell uh i might reach out to you uh for contribution to that fiction book and it'll be fictional but i planned on putting cancer in some way shape or form in that book as part of the story of the person going through the living hell and you sound like having contributed to a book already i'd love to have you as a contributor to that book potentially i would i
TRENT BROCK: would be honored to work with you it would be awesome i would love to work on that project you know this is nothing but a snapshot there is so much more to this story with you know i'd be you know i had two pulmonary embolisms that could have killed me i've had chronic infections that i could have died from i i mean it just goes on and on and on you wouldn't believe all the things that have come along with with this with with this thing and you're right i have been through living hell and i know what it's like and man i just appreciate just being here amen i can't again it's like it's a wonderful
JOSEPH M LENARD (HOST): life movie in my care strikes coming soon to sit in your new book as part of the suicide prevention but even your issue of health and better like you don't know you someone uh Clarence right Clarence shows George what life would be without him you don't know what others lives would be without you here you provide value and meaning to others as do all people all lives matter and have value and meaning a major sub theme in the terror strikes book i like to say it's yeah terrorism but not about death it's about life and living and we provide value to others we may or may not recognize doesn't mean it isn't happening so thank you Trent Brock for coming on i'd greatly appreciate it when the show drops in the future i will of course reach out and send you all the show notes you've seen me during the show making notes of things i want to make sure i remember to put in the show notes including i will reference the breaking the silence book so people can check that out in the chapter you have in that please send me your home address so i can send you a free copy autographed of my how to write a book and give a published hints tips and techniques so that in the future perhaps indeed we will be able to work together on that living hell book sure that sounds great that sounds great you know what i'll send
TRENT BROCK: you one of my books oh great i appreciate that awesome but let's do a little book change and
JOSEPH M LENARD (HOST): book change right yeah it sounds like a great idea i love it welcome to the Trent Joe book club there you go there you go man you got it all right thanks again Trent Brock take care god bless you too thank you bye bye wait wait wait wait wait don't tune out yet hold on hold up hope you notice there's more time on the clock we're ready to shoot some more threes here and run up the score i have no idea why i did some silly dumb sports analogy other than yes i've been enjoying Caitlyn Clark and the Indiana fever and certainly hope they make the playoffs i'm not much of a basketball fan so i otherwise wouldn't normally be watching the NBA let alone the WNBA but if you know it before snooze.com i wrote an article about WNBA will Caitlyn Clark actually put all women's sports especially basketball really on the map this time or die due to DEI hate but that's not what the second segment is about i got myself way off on a side tangent has nothing to do with anything if you're looking at behind the scenes sneak peek at the shoot brightian rumble or youtube you could see me holding up a book title breaking the silence voices of survivors michael jusbury is the attributed author but it has others it has chapters from other people that have put together items for this value one it says up in the corner book now why i bring that up is because i talk with Trent Brock well Trent Brock has something in this book so i'm recording a second segment to mention it and before i get to what Trent wrote on the inside cover it says curated by michael jusbury so that's probably certainly the correct word she didn't really author these pieces in here although on the inside it does say author note it's probably to be just a student should have been the curator of this book's note by that anyway well we'll joke with her when she comes on because yes michael jusbury has agreed to come on christet usan's politics should be on probably in a few months but the author note says some names dates and locations have been changed in these stories for the author's protection okay so i just wanted to mention that it's published through amazon slash kdp select kindled direct publishing kdp copyright 2023 official copyright holder michael jusbury speaks comma llc and of course all rights reserved no part of publication may be produced or blah blah blah you know the disclaimer well michael and frant who's item i'm going to read part of have graciously given me permission to indeed be able to reel from the book a little more about the book itself though let's give a shout out to editor Jim martica i found pronouncing that right i hope it's not i apologize cover design by daniel e so shout out to you too also the first printing of this book 2024 the table of contents were specifically going to jump to chapter four the ultimate underdog became the overcheezing overcomer by trent brock page 38 so taking taking scrolling scrolling actually i had it bookmarked see behind the scenes you can see i'm lying to you on audio i'm not scrolling i i have it bookmarked so chapters four from breaking the silent volume one book from prent brock the ultimate underdog became the overachieving overcomer now obviously i'm not going to read a whole lot of this i just wanted to give a little tease from the start originally from north luisiana most people would consider me a southern gentleman with a slight flare of redneck i i like how this guy is willing to be honest about himself and even take a little bit of a jab because most would consider redneck a slur but hey you know it's it's just a kind of thing that happens especially with farmers right the farmers can the sunburn on the lower arms and on the end the neck it's just a regional thing it shouldn't be a slur but a lot of people take it at any rate i got one sentence in that already went down another rabbit hole continuing from the book i graduated from luisiana tech university with an mba and an information technology emphasis in 2000 and and at any rate i'm not going to question the editing after graduating because as you've seen if you look at my articles i talk about gram or not she's they are k-h-e-i-r topography y-r-e there are so right i mean we all have our regional dialects the way we say things after graduating i traveled around the united states for five years as an it consultant installing and customizing large scale software systems for big companies i knew i liked this guy for a reason because i'm a former IT guy too i was an operations kind of guy not necessarily a software though i yes i did some coding and whatnot continuing from Trent Brock from the book it was an insane gig and i needed a break as i know too well uh 24 seven in it often you're on call seven days a week it's what put me on to disability stress anxiety uh my body shut that shut down so and you'll see why i'm going into this well you've seen segment one and you know his battle with cancer three times i myself didn't choose this hairdo it is because i also had leukemia blood cancer survivor from 2010 continuing on moving along moving along for those who recognize that from the movie dave and we're walking and we're walking okay enough of my stupid lame humor right i moved to spain to teach english attempted to learn spanish which really was a bit of a disaster and traveled around europe during the holidays the international travel bug had bit me at the age of 29 so i went back into IT and ended up settling in new ceiling for over 15 years i'm only going to read that first paragraph i don't know that that's enough of the keys to get you to want to read that book but hopefully after segment one of this episode you've learned enough about Trent that you're really going to want to read chapter four the ultimate underdog became the overachieving overcomer by Trent Brock in the breaking the silence voices of survivors volume one book 21 stories of resilience and transformation i give this book definitely a thumbs up and indeed recommend it not just for trunks writing but others also therein and indeed you go to the back a little bit about the author a standard kind of thing uh uh michael writes an epilogue in the book since she didn't really write the whole book she's as it says the curator of bringing together these important stories i can't talk again i'm still having an issue from having a tooth pull the other day but at any rate so hopefully some ctp show people will indeed surf in over your way by the book indeed i recommend it at this point i'm just going to drop off because the show was supposed to end what let me look at like 12 minutes ago this is a last minute segment tag on because thankfully Trent sent me a copy of the book so i could see the chapter that he wrote therein and i wanted to tack this segment on to let you know that he's a part of that book and there's more information that you can seek out through that thank you all take care god bless
