Simple Discipleship - UNFILTERED
Our Experiences with Julie Green Ministries and a discussion on Holy Communion - No Broken Bones!
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
What if communion isn’t a ritual to rush but a doorway into life, healing, and courage? We open with fresh testimonies from a powerful ministry weekend—people leaving wheelchairs, oxygen set aside, faith rising—and then trace the story that makes sense of it all: the Passover lamb with no bones broken, the crucified Messiah who fulfilled that prophecy, and the living Christ who calls Himself the Bread of Life.
We walk through the Scriptures with care, from Exodus to Psalms to John 19, showing why it mattered that Jesus’ bones remained unbroken—because only a perfect Passover Lamb could bear the weight of our redemption. From there, we linger in John 6 where Jesus feeds the multitude near Passover, then shifts the crowd from craving loaves to seeking true life. His claim, “I am the bread of life,” invites more than admiration; it calls for participation. To “eat” His flesh and “drink” His blood is to receive the whole Christ, not as spectacle but as sustenance for souls and bodies.
Finally, we turn to 1 Corinthians 11 and talk plainly about worthy participation. This isn’t fear-mongering; it’s an invitation to repentance, discernment, and deep joy. Prepare your heart. Reconcile where needed. Approach the table not to fill your stomach but to proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes. Along the way we share practical ways to restore reverence—reading the texts aloud, using meaningful elements, making space for prayer and healing, and remembering that even the “broken pieces” matter to Jesus.
If your faith needs focus, if your heart needs hope, if your body needs healing, come hungry. The Bread of Life still satisfies. Listen, share with a friend, and tell us what shifted for you. Welcome, Updates, And Recent Revivals
SPEAKER_04Thank you so much for joining me on the show today. Jesus has to send it. I'm your host, Sister Diana. Hurry up to the lady.
SPEAKER_01There's a cube.
SPEAKER_02Apparently not.
SPEAKER_04I got the lovely audience today. I got the lovely one. Hey y'all. Pray everybody's doing good. I know that there's a lot of uh stuff going on around us. And and for just a probably 40, 50 minutes, we just want to just take you away from all of that and just get into the word and see what Jesus has to say today. I love that tagline. But um we're so glad that you're joining us. I pray that you go and you share, you like, you share the podcast, send people to their platforms to listen and go to YouTube. And we've got some videos there that Brother Ernie's been doing for us. They took a vacation. Can you believe that?
SPEAKER_03No. Went off unattended.
SPEAKER_04Brother Ernie and Sister Patty did. They escaped and left the the monkeys out in the cage, right for us to just do. But we're we were just uh having discussion yesterday. We um oh man, we had a weekend, probably unlike anything I've ever done. I know I've said that because we were at Kayla Gabbard's event, and that was beyond amazing.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
Testimonies Of Healing And Outpouring
SPEAKER_04Um, but then this past weekend for Thursday night, Friday, Saturday, we were with Jilly Green Ministries um out in um Irving. Irving. And man, it was so powerful. It was just so powerful. I mean, yeah. She barely ever got to preach. I mean, they they had a tremendous praise and worship there with uh what was the girl's name? Jasmine Brady. Jasmine Brady and the the kindred souls. The kindred souls, yeah. So go look them up on Spotify. Powerful, powerful uh praise and worship. But that praise and worship would be so intense that when Julie came finally came out, she didn't even have time to open the word. The Lord just began to show her people and and she began to lay hands on them, and they had like a little um uh track, if you will, that they put across the stage with the little fence that kind of kept her away, but but enough to where she could lay hands on and and all that. And she every single day laid hands on and prayed for hundreds and thousands of people at one time. Yeah, one time. And I mean, they were having to hold her up because she was just so depleted. And uh, if you've never done that, uh it just when you begin to pour yourself out like that, it's like you it gets sucked out of you as you're praying for people. It takes the mud out of it. It takes it does, it really does suck you dry. And so you have to really, really be um prepared and in prayer and all that for uh that type of service. But it was just absolutely amazing. We went not because we needed prayer for anything, but that we felt like God was calling us to just war with her in this because there were people in uh I mean wheelchairs and walkers and canes being healed, on oxygen being healed, uh deliverance taking place, salvations taking place. I mean, all of that in you know, for hours just going on each and every service, and it was so powerful. And so we were worn out just praying with her the whole time and and you know, just worrying because it was like, oh my gosh. But it was just it was it was just amazing. And so um the next time she comes in town, we're gonna make sure everybody knows because I've never experienced anything like that. No, and it was just no, I mean, I have uh, you know, back in the day when um when they show like Katherine Kuhlman and things like that, you would see hundreds of people getting uh healed and stuff. But but understand in Benny Hen as well, they didn't go and lay hands on people though. No, they didn't in their ministries, all they did was the atmosphere was set for miracles to happen. And then they would walk, they had people that would walk through the audience and say, Did you receive your miracle today? And then the person that would say, I can actually, they were like, Well, have you tried to get up and walk? Or have you, you know, have you tried to open your blind eyes? Have you tried to listen? And then the people would say, I can see or I can hear or I can walk. And and they would then go to the stage and testify of what God had done, but they never actually went out into the audience and laid hands on them. No, that was just a move of the Holy Spirit just going and and doing what he does.
SPEAKER_03But it's like some of those people Julie didn't lay a hand on them, she just kind of breathed it.
SPEAKER_04She she was breathing a lot. She was like, Give me a minute, because I'm like, I feel that. I feel that because she was like, I need some mints. So that it was she would just like blow in the breath of life over them, and it was just powerful. And I'm so subconscious about that when we're praying for people about my stinky breath, and I'm like, I need a mint, I need a need some gum, you know. Um, because God will often have you blow breathe over somebody so that you know you breathe that breath of life, and that's just powerful. I love it. But it was an amazing, amazing time. And uh I just I tell you, if you get a chance to go, um, and it's not because of her, and she'll be the first one to tell you. Yeah, it had nothing to do with her other than she's the willing servant to go out and do it. And and what really touched my heart, and we had the conversation after was there needs to be more of that, you know, there needs to be more of that.
SPEAKER_02And so I still find myself the man in front of us praying, praying for him to see the miracle that happened for him. Yeah, he was right in front of us, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah.
Turning To Communion As Today’s Focus
Passover Foundations And The Unbroken Lamb
SPEAKER_04And he had, I think he'd had a stroke or something. And I mean, she was actually having to feed him and help him and help him do everything. And by the by the third day, he was he didn't have a walker. He was walking to himself, he was feeding himself, he was talking. It was so amazing. But yeah, today we want to go into a subject that I know we've talked about sometime past, but the Lord just kind of keeps pushing us in this direction um about communion, about communion. And so, um, and I think we just want to go a little bit deeper into that. And and um, you know, I I think taking um communion is so powerful, especially if there are those of you who are dealing with physical issues in your body. Um if you're dealing with mental issues, if you're dealing, you know, um just the spirit of heaviness, or just whatever that you're dealing with, you know, what there were so many people there that were dealing with cancers and and so many people with, you know, mental health disorders and and and maybe it was just depression was just so it was a lot of people went down for like depression and stuff. But um I want to to to say I encourage you to have a daily communion. Um, but then in that I also want to caution you this before you take communion, and y'all know that I have this pet pee about giving communion out on just Easter and Christmas Eve and stuff when people come to visit their families and they get drugged there basically. Um because communion is very sacred. And if you do not take it correctly, and if you do not if you take it unworthily, scripture says that it would not be good for you. And and so I would advise you that when you say um we're gonna do communion, it you need to make sure you're right. Yeah. You need to make sure that that there's no distractions in the room. You need to make sure that you come to the Lord with an a repent of heart and that first and foremost you you take care of that first. You go you repent of any unclean thing in your life, uh, any thought, word, or deed is the way that I pray it uh that's contrary to God and his word. That you repent and lay it at his feet. Then you have the the ability to come boldly before the throne of grace, right?
SPEAKER_03Right.
SPEAKER_04Communion, there's no greater thing that communion is as that it shows so how much grace God has for us.
SPEAKER_03Yes.
SPEAKER_04Because there's so much power inside this communion. And so we're gonna delve into some scripture. Uh, we're actually breaking the pages out today. And so if you if you're driving and you're just listening, uh don't try to, you know, open your Bible or nothing like that. But but I would encourage you when you get to a place where you can sit down and listen to this, please do that and write down these scriptures and go study for yourself. I always want to tell you, don't listen to what just anybody says. Go study to show yourself approved unto God, right? Scripture tells us. Don't take for granted that that's what the word says. Go dig in there for yourself. And so where we start today, um, we're gonna go over to uh Matthew 26, 26. Uh, who's got that one? Anne, go ahead.
SPEAKER_03Okay. Matthew 26, 26.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_03And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed, and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, Take and eat. This is my body.
SPEAKER_04Then he took the cup. No, we'll stop right there. Now, I want you to see one thing. We oftentimes when we do communion, we say that Jesus said, This is my body which I have broken for you. Right? Yeah. And they break the matzah or they break the bread or whichever that they're giving out for the communion, and they say that Jesus did this, as this is how we say it. But Jesus didn't say that.
SPEAKER_02No.
SPEAKER_04Jesus didn't say, This is my body, which is broken for you. Now we know Jesus paid a horrendous price for us, and we do not want to negate all that he did. He, you know, he was bruised and crushed and beaten, and you know, you know, when we see we talk about the passion of the Christ like we were talking about yesterday, even as dramatic as that was, it's only touched just a very tiny bit of what Jesus did for us, right? Right. And because they say that when when he was on the cross before he said it is finished, um, that you could not even tell if he was male or female.
SPEAKER_03Right. That you couldn't even tell his beard was pulled out, his flesh was torn open, just see bone and muscle.
SPEAKER_04Spine and it and it just horrendous, horrendous. So did Jesus pay the ultimate price? Yes, and we don't want to negate that. But it is important that we don't say that the bread is broken as his body was broken. And now people say, well, what's the importance of that? Well, let's go look in scripture. Let's go look in scripture. So who has um Exodus 12 and 46?
SPEAKER_02Exodus 12, 46. In one house it shall be eaten, and you shall carry any of the fellows outside the house, nor shall you break one of its bones.
SPEAKER_04Okay, so here we are in Exodus, and when we talk about where we're at in Exodus, this is talking about the Passover um meal that they're doing. Okay? Now, where did Passover begin? In Egypt. In Egypt. In Egypt, and what was the purpose of it?
SPEAKER_02The Passover was they were told to put they were told to put blood over their door so the angel of death would pass over them.
SPEAKER_04Right. You take the lamb.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Okay.
SPEAKER_02Instructions were to take the lamb, kill it, kill it, take the blood, spread the blood, take the blood, and spread it over your door.
SPEAKER_04Your door post. Yes. And then they cooked it.
SPEAKER_02Yes. Okay.
Prophecy Fulfilled: No Bones Broken
SPEAKER_04So it's very important that you see that. When the angel of death was coming on the tenth plague, right? We're talking about the Israelites uh in Egypt. They had been in bondage there for over 400, I think 40 years. 400, yeah. Um, and Moses had been sent by God um to tell Pharaoh to set the people free, right? Pharaoh kept on saying, I'm gonna do it, but then he didn't do it, and another plague would come. But now we're down to the tenth plague, which is that the death angel is going to come, and he is going to kill the firstborn out of every household, right?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, not only the babies, but the animals, the animals as well. So it's a firstborn of everything.
SPEAKER_04Everything. There you go. And so the only way that you could be spared the death angel is if you had the direction from God to kill the lamb, put the blood over the doorpost, um, and seal yourself in, cover yourself by the blood, if you will. Yes. And then they were to cook the lamb. Now, this direction that we just read, I want you to read it one more time. It's very sacred. So what they did was they take the lamb, and after they would kill it, and what did they do?
SPEAKER_02In one house it shall be eaten, and you shall not carry any of the flesh outside the house, nor shall you break one of its bones.
SPEAKER_04Should not, you shall not, shall means what? You better not do it.
SPEAKER_03Don't you do that?
SPEAKER_04You better not do that, is what we would say, don't you? You shall not do it. So you shall not break any of its bones. Okay, who's got the next verse? Uh Numbers 9, 12.
SPEAKER_03Stand by. Here we are.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, we're actually going into the word today. Yes.
SPEAKER_03They shall leave none of it until morning.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Nor break one of its bones.
SPEAKER_04Right. So here we go again, and we're we're reiterating in scripture that we're that we're to take the lamb, we're supposed to to kill the lamb, but do not break any of its bones. Okay? Psalms, uh our Psalm thirty-four twenty-four twenty.
SPEAKER_02He guards all his bones, not one of them is broken. Evil evil evil shall stay the wicked, and those who hate the righteous shall be condemned. The Lord redeems the soul of his servants, and none of those who trust in him shall be condemned.
SPEAKER_04Okay, so let me find one more verse. Um I tell you why it's important. Um because when Jesus is on the cross, he says it is finished, and the soldiers come along and on the left and the right of him are are what? The two thieves. And so um for each of the two thieves, what happens? They break their legs. Break their legs. Why did they do that?
SPEAKER_03Because that go ahead. Because they before they break their legs, it's very hard for them to breathe with their arms spread out and barely able to touch the block holding their feet up. So they're having to stretch their body some to be able to breathe. When they break their legs, there's nothing to support them, so they just drop zag down and initial intend they just they suffocate.
Seder Elements And Symbolism
SPEAKER_04They suffocate. So it's it's a measure to make sure that they're dead.
SPEAKER_03Yes.
SPEAKER_04Right? Right. Yeah, when they got to Jesus, let's go to John 19 and 33. John 19, 33.
SPEAKER_03And when they got to Jesus, when they got to Jesus, but when they came to Jesus and saw that he was already dead, they did not break his legs. Now, why is that important? Why is that important? Because you cannot break any bones of the sacrificial lamb. Right. Because Jesus is the perfect Passover lamb. Yes.
SPEAKER_04He is the perfect Passover lamb. And and God had already instituted in the word that the only lamb that would be sufficient for the Passover, for um, for the the death angel to pass pass you by would be a lamb that would had no bones broken.
SPEAKER_03Right.
SPEAKER_04And so, in order for Jesus to fulfill the scripture of becoming the Passover lamb, that He could not have any of his bones broken.
SPEAKER_03No. Absolutely. And that that that was one way of fulfilling Scripture.
SPEAKER_04It was. So read on, you you did 33, go on down to 36.
SPEAKER_0330 down here at 36.
SPEAKER_04No, read 33 through 36.
SPEAKER_03Well, okay.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_03But one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out. Yeah. And he who has seen has testified, and his testimony is true, and he knows that he is telling the truth, so that you may believe. Not one of his bones shall be broken.
SPEAKER_04Right. Because what we just read in Psalm 34, 20 was that the Messiah that's coming, David's prophesying.
SPEAKER_03Yes.
John 6: The Bread That Satisfies Forever
SPEAKER_04In Psalm 34, right? David is prophesying that the Messiah that comes will be someone that sacrifices himself, but that he will be the perfect Passover lamb because none of his bones will be broken. Correct, right? Isn't that awesome? Yeah. And so everything had to line up and and and and be exactly right for Jesus to perfectly fit into what the directive of who the Messiah was going to be coming. And so not only was, you know, we know we talk about before in the Old Testament, there's over 300 prophecies that Jesus so perfectly fulfilled to be the Messiah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_04To meet, the meet all of the qualifications to be the Messiah for the Jewish people. And so we know that, right? And we know that that, you know, they they they still there's still a lot, the Orthodox Jews that don't believe that He does that. And we had been reading something the other day that talked about eight reasons why Jesus doesn't fulfill it. And I'm like, eight reasons why he doesn't, but there's 300 of why he does. You know, yeah. And so um, and so, but what we understand too that our Jewish brothers and sisters that we love, um, they the Bible says that they do have blinders put upon their eyes, that there is a hardening of their heart until the time, right? We know that that will be probably during the tribulation period, and when they when they see uh the abomination of desolation or when they see the two witnesses uh, you know, there walking around scripture, you know, and they're gonna go, oh my gosh, you know, yeah, Jesus was it. And then there'll be some that don't even still believe then. But when Jesus comes back through that eastern gate, you know, we talked about. And they're gonna be amazing. Uh and he puts his foot on the Mount of Olives. And and I I was reading something yesterday where God was talking about that there's a fault line that runs right down the middle. Right down the middle of it. And so the Bible talks about that the that the Mount of Olives gets split in two. There's a fault line right under it where it's gonna happen. And so it's gonna happen. And so, um, and so Jesus, I mean, everything is lining up, you know. We we we could get on this tangent of where we are in times, but um in the last days, and I just want to reiterate that. I don't think we're in the just in the end times. I believe we're in the last days of of this time on earth. And so we we are, you know, we're not young spring chickens anymore, you know. Um, but we do everything we can every single day to find, you know, to just go and and preach Jesus and teach Jesus and that that people can come to repentance because we want to just have take one more with us, right? We can just take one more with us. Okay, so in this, Jesus becomes the perfect Passover lamb. And so in the elements of the Passover meal, we have, or which the Seder meal is what they call it. There's an it Seder means what? Do y'all remember? Yeah, Seder means order. Um, and so there's an order in which things happen, and so in the Seder meal is the order in which Jesus fulfilled the feast. So you have the the the roasted lamb, you have the the the bitter herbs, and you have the unleavened bread. So they had the the roasted lamb because the death angel came and and passed them by. Right? Right. And they had the bitter herbs because that reminds them of the time that they were in the wilderness, right? The unleavened bread. Now, what does the unleavened bread represent? What was the purpose of the unleavened bread?
SPEAKER_02When they were go ahead. When they were getting ready to leave Egypt, they had to leave in such a hurry they didn't have time to leaven the bread and bake it.
SPEAKER_04Right.
SPEAKER_02And um, so they they had to eat unleavened bread, take it out with them. Then the bread was unleavened. But the reason being too is that leaven puts things into the bread, and that's and you have to eat something that's that has nothing added to it. Yeah, so that's leavening.
SPEAKER_04If you leave the leaven out, then it purifies it. Right? And so it makes it purified. We know that Jesus became um the first fruits, right? He became not only not only the Passover lamb, but the first fruits, and he also became the Feast of Weeks, right? He fulfilled the Feast of Weeks. And so in that, um, we're talking about communion, there's that second part. So the first part is we know that the bread um is broken, but the brokenness isn't what represents Jesus' body. The brokenness represents that the bread is for everyone, so that when you begin to piece off the bread, there's enough always. And where do we hear that story at?
SPEAKER_02The feeding of the five thousand.
SPEAKER_04So let's go over to um John 6. This is very exciting here that we're gonna talk about. Um, we kind of alluded to it yesterday. We go into John chapter six, and everybody knows me, knows John is my favorite book other than Revelation. Yeah, and I know it's weird because everybody's like, why?
SPEAKER_02Well, John was with him through everything.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, John was always by his side.
SPEAKER_03So when when they speak of them knowing that this is the truth because he was there as the he's he's referring to himself as the witness uh at Calgary. Yeah. So yeah.
Hard Sayings, True Disciples, And Faith
Reverence In Practice: Worthy Participation
1 Corinthians 11: Examine, Discern, Proclaim
SPEAKER_04Yeah. So I want you to see this. This is so very cool. If you've never read John chapter six, and we started digging into this yesterday, um, because we were at a conference all weekend, like we were talking about, and all and and so yesterday we were like we're tired, you know. Um, but then we ended up doing a Bible study anyway, you know, for two hours. So um, but it was okay because you know, we didn't have to wear a bra. So it was good. And you know, just so life was good. Life was good for me. We can talk about Jesus all day long, you know what I'm saying? So um that's why that was not on video. So all right, so John chapter six, I want to encourage you to go and read this word for yourself um when you get a chance. But this is where um um Jesus is is is um coming into uh Galilee at the Sea of Tiberias, and and there's a great crowd that's following. Y'all know this story where uh Jesus is uh going to feed the 5,000, which we know is probably over 25,000 people. Okay. Um, and so it says in verse 3, and Jesus walked up um to the mountainside and sat down there with his disciples. And and listen to verse 4. Now, the Passover, the feast of the Jews was approaching. Listen what season it is, okay? Yeah, it's Passover season, it's time for Passover. Now, people overread that because they get down and start talking about the 5,000 and they forget. Now the Passover feast of the Jews was approaching. So Jesus looked up and seeing that there was a vast multitude was coming toward him, he said to Philip, Where are we gonna buy bread so that all these people may eat? Now, see, Jesus wasn't poor. For Jesus to even think about let's go buy some bread for them, they had to have a little bit of change. You know what I'm saying? Yeah, because they would have had to have some money. Now, everybody that's mad about the prosperity people, y'all take it up somebody else. Uh Jesus is more sufficient. Uh it was he didn't do it for money, but he did have money to do it. You had to have money to run ministry because they had people that were giving to them. We know that uh Joanna, uh, who you know, oh yeah, you know, she was she made really good money. She gave money to the and to the ministry, and then the disciples had get, you know, everybody was selling property, they were doing everything they needed to do to finance this work. It takes money to pay pay for stuff, you know. And for everybody that's given to us, thank y'all. We appreciate you very much because it keeps us on these platforms. But um, but then he says to to but he said this to prove or to test them, for he knew what was about to happen. Philip answered, 200 pennies is worth of bread is not enough to everyone to for everyone to even get a little bit. And another of his disciples injury, Simon Peter's brother, said to him, There's a little boy here who has with him five barley what? Loves and two fish. And what are they among so many people? And Jesus said, Make all the people recline and sit down. Now the ground, the pasture, was covered with thick grass at the spot. So men threw themselves down and about five thousand in number. So all the men were seated all together. And Jesus took the loaves, the the five loaves, and when he had given thanks, he distributed it to the disciples and the disciples. disciples to the reclining people. So also he did with the fish as much as they wanted. And when they had all enough, he said to the disciples, Gather up now the fragments, those broken pieces that are left over, so that nothing may be lost and wasted. So accordingly they gathered them up and they filled twelve small hand baskets full with fragments left over by those who had eaten from the five barley loaves. And when the people saw the sign, now listen to this when the people saw this sign that Jesus had performed, they then began to say surely and beyond a doubt is this the prophet who came into the world. When they saw this when Jesus multiplied the bread and the fish all of a sudden their eyes were opened and look what says 15 and Jesus knowing that they had meant to come and seize him that they might make him a king he withdrew from them in other words he got away hurriedly now up until this time Jesus had already done the following okay let's see over here he had already turned the water into wine he had already healed the official son at Capernaum He had already done deliverance He had already healed Peter's mother-in-law he had already healed many many many sick uh he had already done the catch of fish he had already cleaned cleansed the man with leprosy he had already healed the centurion servant he had already healed the paralytic that came down from the roof he had already healed the weathered hand on the Sabbath uh he had already raised the widow's son from dead from death he had already raised the dead all right he had already calmed the storm on the sea he had already cast the demons into the herd of pigs he had already healed the woman with the issue of blood he had already raised Jarius's daughter back to life that's two people been raised from the dead right Jesus healed the two blind men Jesus healed the man who was unable to speak Jesus had already healed the invalid in Beth Seda but now Jesus feeds the 25,000 or so and all of a sudden now they're believing. Yeah now they believe but here's why here's why let's go over back into John and let's look at verse 25 this is why and when they found him on the other side of the lake they said to him Rabbi because he done took off and they said Rabbi when you when when did you get over here and Jesus answered them and said I said most surely I tell you you have been searching for me not because you saw the miracles and signs but because you were fed because you were fed with the loaves and you were filled and satisfied that's very important. Filled and satisfied you were filled with the bread so stop toiling and doing and producing for food that perishes and dec decomposes by striving and working and producing rather for food which endures unto life eternal the Son of man will give you that for God the Father has authorized and certified him and put his seal on of endorsement upon him they then said what are we to do that we may habitually be work working the works of God what are we to do to carry out what God's requiring and Jesus replied This is the work that God asks of you okay this is what God's telling you if you want to do what signs, wonders and miracles this is what I require of you that you believe in the one whom he has sent therefore they said to him But what sign will you perform then so that we may see it and believe and rely on and hear to you what supernatural work have you that you can do and our forefathers ate the manna in the wilderness now listen to this our forefathers ate the manna in the wilderness as the scripture says he gave them bread out of heaven to eat. Now we know that's in Exodus 16 and 15 we won't go over there. And Jesus says to them now listen I assure you most solemnly I tell you Moses did not give you the bread from heaven what Moses gave you was not the bread from heaven but it was my Father who gives you the true heavenly bread for the bread of God is he who comes down out of heaven and gives life to the world he is the bread he's the bread he is the bread so then they said to him Lord give us this bread always and Jesus replied I am the bread of life he who comes to me will never be hungry and he who believes in and cleaves to and trusts in me and relies on me will never thirst at anymore at any time but I told you though you have seen me but you still do not believe and trust and have faith all whom my father gives to me will come to me and the one who comes to me I will most certainly not cast out for I have come down from heaven not to do my own will and purpose but to do the will and the purpose of him who sent me go down to verse 48 Jesus says I am the bread of life I'm the living bread your forefathers ate the manna in the wilderness and yet they died but this is the bread that comes down from heaven so that anyone may eat of it and what? Never die. Not die never die I am the living bread that came down from heaven if anyone eats of this bread he will live forever and also the bread that I shall give for the life of the world which is what my flesh my flesh my body this is Jesus talking about communion yes yes said not only am I the bread of life but I'm coming to give my body to you because the bread the communion bread is going to signify my body because he is the bread of life he is the bread he is the bread then the Jews angrily contended one with another saying how is it that he is able to give us flesh to eat and Jesus said to them I assure you you cannot have any life in you unless you eat what? The flesh of the Son of man and drink what? His blood unless you appropriate his life and the saving merit of his blood.
SPEAKER_03Yes.
Repentance, Return, And Daily Walk
SPEAKER_04He who feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has and possesses now eternal life and I will raise him up from the dead on the last day for my flesh is true and genuine food and my blood is true and genuine drink. He who feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood dwells continually in me and I in him to hear that just as the living father sent me and I live by and through him because of the father even so whoever continues to feed on me whoever takes me for his food and is nourished by me shall in turn live through and because of me this is the bread that came down from heaven it is not like the manna which your forefathers ate and yet died he who gives he who takes this bread for his food shall live forever.
SPEAKER_01He said these things and guess where he was when he said it synagogue in the synagogue so Jesus Mic drops so Jesus stands up in the middle of the synagogue this is what I love so much about it.
SPEAKER_04Yeah Jesus is declaring himself the bread of life right of life the bread of all and he's in the synagogue so imagine the draws of the Sadducees and Pharisees and scribes they're sitting there while Jesus is talking about I am the bread yeah I am the bread of life and if you you those who eat of my of me of my body and of my blood and they're going what and if you go on down in in chapter six even the disciples that were present begin to question God right this man has lost his mind. Yeah and they and they and and it says many left yeah it said that's it I'm done yeah yeah and so he turns to the 12 and he says to them uh down in verse uh 67 he says Jesus said to the 12 will you go away too Simon Peter says what Lord to whom shall we go to whom shall we go you have the words of eternal life and we have learned to believe and trust on you and to come to know you are the Holy One of God the Christ the Son of the living God that's what communion is about is that you know the the we talked about this the Catholics they actually when they do communion and they do it usually every week I was I was telling y'all the story um I was in New Mexico uh a couple weeks ago and and my brother and his wife they they are Catholic and so uh on Sunday morning they turned on their mask uh so that we could watch it and the priest came out and he clearly was having some sinus issues or he had COVID or something. I don't know but he was just blowing his nose the whole time and and he was just like can you bring me a tissue and he's like trying to you know read the word and it's not what's coming down and it was just like okay this is gross. But anyway at the end he tears the bread like he's the one that has to bless the the bread and the wine and they in there they believe in substantiation and so which means that they think they believe that the bread actually becomes the flesh of Jesus yeah they believe that when they drink from the cup and they all drink from the same cup becomes the blood of Jesus. And I was like I would just have to skip out on Jesus today because brother clearly had some I mean you know you had to have some faith to take that bread I don't want and take that blood you know say we're sharing the word but not your germs. Yeah let's uh let's just anoint this little cracker and stuff at the house and you know we'll do so anyway um but they believe in a literal that it that when they bless it that it actually becomes that and so and I and the thing is that we are talking about I think that that's so kind of cool in a way because they so reverence it and I think that we go through the motions so fast when we do communion that we overlook the significance of it. I wish we kind of had something in the middle of that where there's where we have such a reverence for what we're about to do. And and that's why scripture talks about not taking it wordly what was that in uh who's got the Corinthians yeah read that in Corinthians and we're gonna close up in a minute okay let me make sure I'm in the yeah okay and when he had given thanks he broke it and said take yeah this is my body which is broken for you yeah so so Paul is telling Corinthians this is how they did communion. Yeah and Jesus was saying this was my body not my broken body because we know that that the bread had to be whole right so they break the bread in order that they can give it to everyone. Yes and I love the story of the 5,000 where Jesus said go get me the broken pieces too. Yeah I love that I love that Jesus said that there's nothing even the broken pieces means something to him and that could go in so many different directions go in so many different directions. And so when you're when you're taking communion one repent make sure you have a time of reflection in yourself and say God I know I don't always get it right because that's every one of us around the table right and and I didn't introduce you guys but Sister Ann and Sister Audie are here today. Apologize for that sorry I was just excited about the topic but you know but I would say when you're when you begin to do communion take that time of reflection and I want to say this if you feel like you're not in a place to do it don't do it. Don't do it. Right yeah don't fake it till you make it that's just one of those that you don't because it's such a holy thing.
SPEAKER_02And if we did picture it as literally we're ingesting who Jesus is if you go further down in this chapter Paul reiterates the importance read that okay it says therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord is in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and the blood of the Lord now stop right there.
SPEAKER_04Where's that verse? You're in 27 in 1 Corinthians okay first Corinthians 11 24 and now we're on 27.
SPEAKER_02Read from 24 down there okay just reread that okay and it it you want to start from the whole from 24 and when he had given thanks he broke it and said take eat this is my body which is broken for you this is my body okay go ahead do this in remembrance of me. In the same manner he also took the cup after supper saying this is the cup is the new covenant in in my blood this do as often as you this do as often as you drink it in remembrance of me. For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you will proclaim the Lord's death till he comes. Okay so listen the importance of it is as often as we do it we're proclaiming right we're proclaiming what Jesus has done what he did with his body what he did with his blood we can't fathom that we can't we cannot there there is a redemption that took place upon the cross the redemption that he paid for the price for our sins he gave himself for us for our sins go ahead for as often as you eat this eat this bread and drink this cup you proclaim the Lord's death till he comes yeah therefore who s whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and the blood of the Lord but let a man examine himself examine himself okay there I like that go ahead and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup for he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself not just discerning the Lord's body for this reason many are weak and sick among you and many sleep for if we would judge ourselves we would not be judged but when we are judged we are chastened by the Lord that we may not be condemned with with the world.
SPEAKER_04Therefore brethren when you come together to eat wait for one another but if anyone is hungry let him eat at home lest you come together for judgment and the rest I will set in order when I come okay so what he's saying is I want you to do communion I want you to but one have the buffet before you come yeah mm-hmm right because this isn't so you can get filled up you know like you go to ponchos or something it's not you're not this isn't to this isn't about the food. No this is about his body right it could be this is about his blood this is about what he did for us and that's what I'm saying I wish we kind of had this mentality of that kind of in between um where we so reverence the communion act if you will that we that we don't do it wistfully like we don't just go peel the little paper off and have the little those nasty little wafers um but that we actually take time bake bake a big loaf of bread and and and break off a piece for everybody you know let it be blessed and and and do because you take on who he is you take him you ingest who Jesus is that means if you're doing it and you're doing it in a worldly manner there should never be any sickness or disease. No, because I mean he did this at Passover so he's proclaiming his death and prophesying about his second yes he's already prophesying it with it with it and that's what's so powerful about it because they're going you've lost your mind we're sitting in the synagogue we're about to all be killed you know you're proclaiming yourself as the bread of life and that you come down from the Father you're saying all these things in chapter six you're gonna get us killed you know enough that people got up that had been following him for a long time and left.
SPEAKER_03And I mean they left because in my my opinion they weren't true believers they had not seen or looked beyond what he was trying to tell them.
SPEAKER_04The thing the only thing that they were doing was following the signs and the wonders and the beard that's it they were just they weren't following Jesus they were following what they could get from Jesus.
SPEAKER_02Yeah they were following him for entertainment yeah and that's not what what he was what he could give them not digesting his word and that's the important thing he was saying I'm the bread of life you digest what I'm telling you yeah I like that yeah but two I think this besides this this second part here that I read I think it's also a warning to Christians that this yes this is a sacrament but don't take it lightly don't just do it because you do it every Sunday.
SPEAKER_04Right right and that and that's why I think I don't I don't think we should ever get in a position where we take it lightly that we say oh it's Easter let's do you know communion and then you got your you know your third cousin that came out for your mama's side that you know they're gonna come because your mama said I need everybody come up here and then you're giving them communion no because you could hurt them. Yeah yeah you know you if there is not an explanation if that isn't read every single time before someone takes that little baby cup and wafer then they could you could be detrimental to their to their life you can die.
SPEAKER_03Yeah yeah and I wonder how much then that happens important for people to read their Bible and to ask questions. Ask questions because if they're not asking the question and they're not getting an answer that's sufficient to them then ask someone else.
SPEAKER_04Yeah and that's why I always say if you're in doubt ever about scripture what you should do or not do read it. The Bible says to study study study to show yourself approved. Yes right yeah it's not a matter of what somebody told you and somebody's telling you to take this communion no understand the ramifications that can come from doing it unworthily. Right right but Jesus is so good to us isn't he I think this is just a great word today I pray that somebody got something out of it uh we do want to say though to one of the things that we want you to do is want you to examine yourself and if in that examination when that light is illuminated you feel like you're not in right relationship with Jesus maybe you've fallen away from it maybe you haven't been in fellowship forever or you just life got busy so you've just kind of not been in the word and forever whatever reason that you found this podcast today we want to point you to Jesus. Right he is the bread yeah he's the he's the bread from heaven he's not the manna no he's greater than that because the manna they can only eat it for the day and then they had to wait till the next day to get some more Jesus is the bread that we continually feast upon right he's the bread from heaven he is and so and so I want to I want to tell you today just repent. Repent and just ask Jesus to come inside of you to forgive you of your sins to come Holy Spirit to just dwell inside of you and then make a conscious decision to make Jesus the Lord of your life and that doesn't mean that I just carry the Christian badge that means that that I truly surrender my flesh over to the Spirit to say I want to follow you with every part of who I am I'm not always going to get it right but I am going to pursue you every single day. Yes until I do I do get it right right and so and even after you get it right. Yeah because you and if you've messed up look if you've been saved and you've messed up repent it's that simple just repent turn back to the Lord yeah because he hasn't walked away from you you've turned away from him I guarantee you if you repent and turn around he's right there. Right I I will follow that yeah I mean you know we talk about all the time but all of us around this table we've been in that situation.
SPEAKER_03We are a work in progress.
SPEAKER_02Yeah we're not perfect but he is you know and this the I read somewhere in in something that it said Christians even the best best quote Christians sin at least seven times a day.
SPEAKER_04And you know I was like I don't want to count I don't want to count my money I know you know I just yeah yeah but I think you know it take take that for what it for what it's meant for because we all sin the Bible says we all sin and fall short of the glory of God.
SPEAKER_02And I just take that to mean everybody no matter how perfect you think your walk with God is you are going to mess up.
