This week, Bro. Ernie starts a brand new series on "A Simple Presentation into The Gospel of St. John".  Personally one of my favorite!  Get your notebooks ready!  Unlike the other Gospels, John takes us on a journey to show the deity and lovingness of Jesus.

What if the smallest word changes everything? We open a fresh study of the Gospel of John by tracing Jesus’ claim that the Father is in the Son and the Son is in the Father, then follow that thread across 2 Corinthians, Colossians, Timothy, Hebrews, and Acts. The aim is simple and demanding: believe on Jesus as the Scripture has said, not as culture, tradition, or preference might prefer. From living water in John 7 to life through His name in John 20, we explore how Scripture-shaped belief leads to receiving the Spirit, praying with authority, and expecting signs that follow believers.

Along the way, we slow down for a human portrait of John. Likely the youngest apostle, called from nets into nearness, part of the inner circle at the transfiguration and Gethsemane, and the friend who leaned on Jesus’ chest at supper. That closeness did not blur his doctrine; it clarified it. John saw the humanity of Jesus and still wrote that He is the express image of God’s person. We reflect on why Jesus entrusted His mother to John, why rumors swirled that John might not die, and how John’s long witness formed a Gospel that blends affection, awe, and uncompromising truth.

This conversation also equips you to study well. We share practical tools: use first mention to anchor symbols, read in context with covenant and audience in view, gather complete mention across Scripture, and pray with patience. Expect God to answer. Expect the text to shape your beliefs. Expect that calling on the name of Jesus is more than a tagline—it is a claim on power, identity, and mission. If you’re ready to trade vague inspiration for clear conviction and living water, grab your Bible and join us as we make John and Acts a daily rhythm. Subscribe, share with a friend who loves Scripture, and leave a review to help others find the study.

I would love your feedback and topic suggestions!

Because of John's relationship with Jesus. But I hope you enjoy it. Now, as far as the date that it was written, scholars are uncertain. They think it was somewhere from 60 AD to 100 A.D. Can't put a nail in it. Just know that John was the disciple who lived the longest, the only one to die a natural death. Now, I want to talk to you about the purpose of this study from my perspective. First is to provide a written historical document that confirms the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob is revealed in and through God's Messiah, the only begotten Son, Jesus of Nazareth. And so very quickly, if you turn to Gospel of St. John chapter 10, we're going to read a few verses here to try to set the atmosphere, as it were. John chapter 10, and we're going to read verses 37 and 38. Jesus speaking here, most of the time, Jesus is speaking to his detractors. Other times just people who ask questions, but at this time, detractors. He says, if I do not the works of my father, believe me not. But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works that ye may know and believe that the Father is in me and I in him. So that's a unique relationship. My dad and I can agree, but I can never be in him. And he could never be in me. Let's look now to John 14. And this time Jesus is talking to his disciples. And I'm going to read verses 10 and 11. Jesus is talking to Philip. And Philip had asked him, would you please show us the Father and clear that up for us? And verse 10, Jesus answers Philip. He says, Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me. The words that I speak unto you, I speak not of myself, but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me, or else believe me for the very works' sake. Again, what's happening here? The preposition of the word in is being stressed over and over by Jesus. Now let's look at 2 Corinthians chapter 4. Talk about this for just a moment. 2 Corinthians chapter 4. I'm going to read verses 5 and 6. Paul writing to the Corinthian church. So the apostle saw himself as servants to the church. For God, who commanded the light to shine out of the darkness, hath shined in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. Just stressing this, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob is revealed to us in and through the only begotten Son of God. Let's look at 2 Corinthians chapter 5. Verse 19. Same audience now. To wit that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them, and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. God was in Christ. Now, the book of Colossians, chapter 1. And there's a lot to read here, but we're going to focus right now on verse 19. 4. It pleased the Father that in him that is in Jesus should all fullness dwell. That is, there is a complete revelation of the God who fills all time and space in Jesus Christ. And then look at Colossians chapter 2. We'll read verses 8 and 9. Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. For in him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. Again, in Christ is a complete revelation of the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. And as we read through John, we'll see this over and over again. Now, we're going to look at 1 Timothy. So John is not the only one who writes about this. 1 Timothy chapter 3, verse 16. Paul writing to Timothy. And without controversy, great is the mystery of godliness. There is a mystery about God. Listen to God, we love and know. No matter what we say about him, he fills all time and space. We will not make him fit in our little theological boxes. He won't go there. And without controversy, great is the mystery of godliness. It is great. But Paul's going to talk about what we can understand about that minist that mystery. God was manifest, or that means revealed, in the flesh, in the form of a human being, justified in the spirit, seen of angels. How does the invisible become seen? Preached unto the Gentiles. Who did the apostles preach unto the Gentiles? Believed on in this world and received up into glory. Who ascended up in the glory cloud? In Acts chapter 1. Finally, the book of Hebrews. The first chapter. The first eight verses. That is, through the prophets he spoke to Israel, hath in these last days spoken unto us by, or that is, through his son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds. He made the worlds through the only begotten Son. He was not even an entity until he came forth from the womb of Mary. But the writer keeps talking about him, who being the brightness of his glory. Whose glory? God's glory and the express image of his person. You want to know what God looks like? Look at Jesus, upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the majesty on high. Being made so much better than the angels. Jesus, why? Because he was the very image of God. Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they. Hold on to that, because you inherited your last name from your father. Jesus inherited his name from his father, so declares the writer. For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my son, this day have I begotten thee, and again I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son, and again when he bringeth in the first begotten into the world, Adam was the first created. Jesus is the first begotten Son of God, and the only begotten Son of God. He saith, And let all the angels of God worship him. And of the angels, he saith, Who make his angel spirits and his ministers a flame of fire. But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is forever and ever a scepter of righteousness, is the scepter of thy kingdom. So one of the things we want to prove about the Gospel of John is that as a historical document, it confirms that the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob is revealed in and through God's Messiah, the only begotten Son of God. Hence we have touched all these scriptures before we go further into the gospel. Another reason it's written is to declare the truth, and the reason we're in this study, to declare the truth, that to believe in Jesus according to Scripture, that is to believe on him, on his name, the name Jesus, as the scripture hath said, is what matters. Not just believe on him any way we want, not just make a concept that says, well, this is the God I like. I had people say to me in the past when I was pastoring them, the God of my understanding has shown me this. The God of my understanding has shown me that. I'm glad you have an understanding with God. But he is more than the God of your understanding. He is the God who is omnipotent, omnipresent everywhere and everywhere, the only true and living God. Now, let's look at John chapter 7, verses 37 through 39, and it's important that what we believe about Jesus is grounded in the Word of God, not that just the Jesus I want. I I saw a clip on Facebook yesterday where a guy was painting a picture of a Jesus that I don't know. Just because you want Jesus to be something doesn't make him that. You may want me to be ten foot tall, but that's not gonna happen. All right, John chapter 7. This is the last day, verse 37, the great day of the feast. We believe this was the Feast of Tabernacles. Jesus stood and cried in Jerusalem to the crowd, if any man thirst, let him come unto me and drink. Pay close attention to verse 38. He that believeth on me as the scripture hath said, not the way they want to believe, as we are instructed in scripture to believe. Out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. If you don't believe on Jesus as the scripture has said, he is saying you won't receive this experience. John goes on to write and clarify that experience in verse 39. But this spake he, Jesus, of the Spirit, that they believe on him should receive, for the Holy Ghost was not yet given, because that Jesus was not yet glorified. That is, after the resurrection of Jesus Christ, those who believe on him are to receive the Holy Ghost, if they have believed on him as the scripture has said. Matthew chapter 18. We'll go there to verse 20. For where two or three are gathered together, he's teaching people who are following him now, not necessarily detractors. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. You're a physical human being. Are you telling us, no matter where it is, around the world of all time in history, that if two or three of us are gathered together in your name physically, you will appear? They'll be in 500,000 different places. This stresses that the identity of Jesus Christ is closely tied and fused together with that of the God of Abraham and Isaac and Jacob, according to Scripture. Let's look at Mark 16. Now, if you've been following in other studies, you know we've gone over these scriptures time and time again because these are some fundamental things. Mark 16, verse 15 through 18. Jesus last words to his disciples, as recorded by Mark, people think that he is the nephew of Peter, and Peter narrated this gospel. And he that is Jesus said unto them, Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized, not he that does it any old way he wants to. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved. But he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow, them that believe, not you eleven, not you twelve, not you handful, them that believe in my name. Shall they cast out devils? They shall speak with new tongues, they shall take up serpents. Who will do this? Them that believe. If they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them. They shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. Are we believing as the scripture hath said? This is something we must learn to do. We've got to get a good understanding of scripture so that we can know why we believe the things we do. It tells us not only what to believe, but why to believe it. All right, so the gospel of Saint Luke, we're going to read from verses 24, verses 46 through 44. And he said unto them, thus it is written, and thus it behoove Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name, beginning at Jerusalem. And we are witnesses of these things, and behold, I send you the promise of my Father. But tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem until ye be endued with power from on high. What if they don't tarry? What if they don't preach repentance? You have to believe, as the scripture hath said, in order to be endued with power from on high. Gospel of St. John chapter 1, verse 12. Look at what John writes about Jesus. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God or the children of God, even to them that believe on his name. We are to anticipate, to expect that there is authority and power in the evoking and invoking of the name of Jesus. John chapter 3. Everybody's well acquainted with John 3.16, and we should be. But we forget as part of a very much larger conversation. I'm going to read 16 through 18. For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Now he's going to clarify what that means as we keep reading. For God sent not his son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned. But he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. If you're not believing there's power and authority in the name of the only begotten Son, then you're not believing like John 3.16 instructs. John 14. Verses 14. See, I think I typed that in backwards. Should be verses 13 and 14. I've got it.

Oh, I've got mine typed in 14 and 13. I made a correction on yours or somebody else did. But that's good. So here we go. Verse 13. Jesus says, and whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified. Here it is again. In the Son, not with, not beside, not also, in. If ye shall ask anything in my name, I will do it. John chapter 20. We've got just a few more scriptures under this heading. John chapter 20. And we're going to look at verses 30 and 31. John is getting near the end of his gospel. And he pens these words. And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book. But these are written that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that believing ye might have life through his name. Oh, this is just one more reason that we baptize in the name of Jesus. Let's go to Acts chapter 3, verse 6. Peter's statement concerning the man who was healed at the gate called beautiful. Then, I'm going to read 6 and 8. Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none, but such as I have give I thee. How did he pray for him? In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk. He literally commanded him. And he took him by the hand and lifted him up, and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. And he leaping up stood and walked and entered with them into the temple, walking and leaping and praising God. Finally, Acts chapter 4, verses 10 and 12, when Peter is answering the people who are, the Sanhedrin who are against him and against the gospel, for the man being healed, especially being healed in the name of Jesus. Verse 10. Be it known unto you all and to all the people of Israel that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, does this man stand here before you whole? This is the stone which was sought set and not of you builders, which has become the head of the corner. We are going to read through this gospel and understand we are to believe in Jesus as is stated in the scripture, the picture that is painted of him in the gospels and in scripture, not necessarily the traditional picture of men, not what the Muslims believe about him, not what the Buddhists believe about him, not what Baha'i believes about him, not what any particular denomination believes about him, not what historians believe about him and atheists believe about him. What the scripture says about him, this is what we are to believe. So we want to discover what we should believe about Jesus and why we should believe it from Scripture. Now, about John himself. Scholars suppose John was 15 to 8 years old when Jesus called him to be a disciple. He is thought to be the youngest of those called by Jesus to be his apostles. And at the time Jesus called John to follow him, he was already a fisherman, at least an apprentice. So let's look at the Gospel of Matthew, chapter 4. And we'll see something about when John was called. Verses 18 through 22. And Jesus, walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brethren. Simon called Peter and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishers. And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. And straightway they left their nets and followed him. And going on from thence he saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother. And he called them. And they immediately left the ship and their nets. A scripture that goes along with that is Mark chapter 1, verses 16 through 20. Now as he walked by the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew his brother, cast that's he being Jesus, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishers. And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men. And straightway they forsook their nets and followed him. And when he had gone a little further thence, he saw James, the son of Zebedee and John his brother, who were also mending their nets. And straightway he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the ship with the hired servants, and went after him, that is, after Jesus. Now, Luke chapter 6. And we'll read verses 13 through 16. And when it was day, he called unto him his disciples. And of them he chose twelve, whom he had named apostles, Simon, who he also named Peter, Andrew his brother, James and John, Philip and Bartholomew, Matthew and Thomas, James the son of Alpheus, and Simon called Zelotus, and Judas the brother of James, and Judas Iscariot, which also was the traitor. He is numbered among the apostles by Luke. Now for me, I see the youthfulness of John. When John was not the least bit embarrassed to lay his head on Jesus' breast or chest. I will still hold them close to me or to my chest at a time, or my grandson, but just up to just any man? No, no. But the relationship that John had with Jesus made him feel comfortable with that. You couple that with what we think about John's age. John 13, verses 21 through 26. When Jesus thus said, he was troubled in spirit and testified and said, Verily, verily I say unto you that one of you shall betray me. Then the disciples looked upon one another, doubting of whom he spake. Now there was leaning on Jesus' bosom one of his one of his disciples, whom he loved. Simon Peter therefore beckoned to him that he should ask who it should be of whom he spake. So they felt like it was okay for John to ask it. But they didn't want to ask it. He then, lying on Jesus' breast, saith unto him, Lord, who is it? Jesus answered, It is he to whom I will give a sop when I have dipped it. And when he had dipped the sop, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon. So John was so comfortable with Jesus and their friendship that he could ask this question when nobody else felt like they could. And he could just, hey, like I'm your kid, brother, you know, I can rest in your affections and not be embarrassed. Now, John wrote five of the books of the New Testament. They are the Gospel of John, first, second, third, John, and finally the revelation, the last book in the Bible, the revelation of Jesus Christ or of Saint John the Divine. John, it appears, was one of the three disciples that were closest to Jesus. Matthew chapter 26. Matthew 26, and we'll read verses 36 and 37. Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto his disciples, Sit ye here while I go and pray yonder. And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, James and John. When he went to pray at his most critical moment, John was in the inner circle. In Matthew chapter 5, I'm sorry, Mark chapter 5, verse 37. Mark writes, and he, Jesus, suffered no man to follow him save Peter and James, and John, the brother of James. You see how close they are? He had 12 apostles, but out of the 12, he had three that he was pouring special leadership instruction into. He wanted them close to him, closer than the others. Not that they all wouldn't be leaders, but that these three would have specific duties. All right, so we're in Mark chapter 9, verse 2. And after six days, Jesus taketh with him Peter and James and John and leadeth them apart into a high mountain. They were going to go see the transfiguration of Jesus. Mark chapter 14 and verse 32. And they came to a place which was called Gethsemane. And he saith to his disciples, Sit ye here while I pray. And he taketh with him Peter and James and John, and began to be sore amazed and to be very heavy. They were with him at his most critical even moment. John even refers to himself as the disciple whom Jesus loved. That's quite a statement. He was loving all of them, wasn't he? John says, you know, we were like cup buddies. We're all friends. But he's my best friend. I'm his best friend in the natural. John chapter 13, verse 23. Now, there was leaning on Jesus' bosom one of his disciples whom Jesus loved. John wrote this about himself. John chapter 19, verse 26. When Jesus therefore saw his mother and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, we know that's John. He saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son. Then he saith unto the disciple, Behold thy mother. And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home. Jesus was so close to John that when he was dying, instead of having one of his brothers there, and we know his brother James became the pastor of the church at Jerusalem, he picks John and says, You're gonna take care of my mama. That's close. John chapter 21, verse 7. Therefore, that disciple whom Jesus loved. This is how John keeps referring to himself, his relationship with Jesus. Hey, we all get saved the same way, but as a human being, the Son of God and John had a unique relationship. It's just like you have many friends in your life, but you know there's just a couple that are different. I could call some names of people in my life, they're all my friends, but I could call some names of certain people that we have shared deeper struggles with, which has caused a deeper sense of affection because of our experiences. There even arose a rumor among the disciples that John would never die. John chapter 21, verses 20 through 25. Then Peter turning about seeth the disciple whom Jesus loved, following, which also leaned on his breast at supper, and said, Lord, which is he that betrayeth thee? Peter seeing him, seeing this disciple, saith to Jesus, Lord, what shall this man do? We see your relationship with him is a little bit different. You got special instructions for him? What shall this man do? Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? Follow thou me. In other words, hey, you and him, I love you both the same, but we've got a different relationship. You pay attention to what you're supposed to do. Then went this saying abroad among the brethren that this disciple should not die. Yet Jesus said not unto him, He shall not die. But if I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? This is the disciple which testifieth of these things and wrote these things. And we know that his testimony is true. Also, when he wrote this gospel, he had people at least proofreading it, because he said, We know these things are true. This testimony is true. And there are many, excuse me, and there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written, every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen. I have read that John was the apostle that lived the longest. He himself writes that he was in the Isle of Patmos in Revelation 1 and 9 when he received the revelation that he wrote there. And the first teaching I heard about this is that the Romans tried to boil John in oil and it didn't work. So they took him out and they sent him to the Isle of Patmos, a prison isle, where he received his revelation. After leaving Patmos, it is said that he shepherded the church at Ephesus, and it is commonly believed that he is the only disciple that died of an old age of natural causes. So when you read this gospel now, I want you to remember some things important. When we go through this study, if you read something you don't understand in any study, use the principle of first mention if it's a metaphor or a type. How should I understand it? How was this language used the first time in Scripture? Because it'll be used that way every time again. Use the principle of context. Which covenant is this under? Who wrote it? To whom was it written? And why was it written? Ask yourself those questions. Use the principle of complete mention. Look for it every place in the Bible where it's mentioned and verify the meaning by using all the similar and related scriptures. And finally, always pray, ask for guidance, and then listen. If you don't hear an answer immediately, don't give up. God may answer you ten minutes later, a day later, a night dream, a vision. God may answer. Thank you for your precious time. That's all for today. That was your phone that went off?

SPEAKER_01

That was there was my alarm to go off, you know why? Well, because I have to pick up kids. Okay.

SPEAKER_00

All right. You gotta leave right now.

Closing Motto And Community CTA

SPEAKER_01

No, no, not yet. But anyway, we we thank you so much for the Ernie for this study. I'm so excited about going into the book of John. If anybody's listened to us at all, they know that that's my favorite book other than Revelation to read. And and I I just love it. I love that John just has that personal gooshy feeling about Jesus. He just as a human. And he and he it just shows a divinity of who Jesus is, more so than just you know, Jesus did this, Jesus did this, and we witnessed this, we witnessed this. He's more of he just loves Jesus. You know what it shows to me?

SPEAKER_00

That we have no excuse.

SPEAKER_01

I know, I know.

SPEAKER_00

Because that means uh John could see Jesus fully as a human being and be couple buddies, and yet see past that in identify.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

The divinity within him.

SPEAKER_01

That's exciting. That's exciting. I'm excited for everybody. I'm excited for everybody that's listening. I'm excited for those who are gonna watch the video of this. SPEAKER_00

Is there anything about the introduction that you noticed in particular?

SPEAKER_01

No, I just I like I like that we're going into more of the intimate side of who Jesus is, and I and I I love that. And so praise God. I'm excited for uh for this uh study. So thank you all for being with us today. We're gonna go ahead and close and we're gonna do our little motto to go show some love, show some compassion, give, mercy, and go be Jesus today.
