Cook Islands Kukicast

Joanne Stephens was born on Mauke and after a working life as a nurse in Australia and New Zealand, returned to her home island in 2017. She was elected Mayor in 2024 and is a dedicated advocate for her community and a devout Christian.  Her election was not only a personal achievement, but has been seen as significant for the LGBT+ community as she's the Islands' first transgender Mayor.
