Speaker 1:

This is the Good Neighbor podcast, the place where local businesses and neighbors come together. Here's your host.

Speaker 2:

Welcome to the Good Neighbor podcast. With me is Sue Bradley with Harmony in 3d. Welcome, sue, it's a pleasure having you today.

Speaker 3:

Thank you, I'm looking forward to it.

Speaker 2:

Awesome. So tell me a little bit about Harmony in 3d. What does that mean and what do you do?

Speaker 3:

Harmony in 3d is a way to relax, release tension and Sink in together your mind, your body and your spirit. That's the three Dimensions, and the harmony is to bring them all back together when they belong. And it at Harmony in 3d we use equipment, mostly music, that is pipe through eight speakers, and Then we also have vibrations that are built into a padded platform on which you would lie and that is suspended from an open geodesic dome. So you have all the factors For relaxing. The room is dark, we have a salt lamp, we can have a diffuser on if people want that, so they just go in the room and lie down and Disconnect everything. No phone, no way for anybody to get in and bug you.

Speaker 3:

While you're there and before you actually take the session, I would have an initial meeting with you and we would talk about why you've come. Is it stress, is it anxiety, is it pain? And we don't diagnose and we don't treat any particular ailment, but we do prescribe certain types of music, certain types of vibration To relieve your Discomfort. So it really depends on what your goals are and then I work with you to set up a session Specifically for, for your needs. That's what we do at Harmony in 3d.

Speaker 2:

So it's a way to completely disconnect for a little while and you experience music and vibration. Is that right?

Speaker 3:

That's correct and there's no one. No one touches you. You don't take a pill, you don't smoke, you don't do anything except let the music and the vibrations Go through your body and it actually cleanses. The first time I did that, this was many years ago and the equipment was just in its infancy, and After the session I got up and stood up and felt like my whole body was Realized the way it should be, and that's the goal when you come to harmony.

Speaker 2:

So how did you get, how did you find harmony in 3D? How did you get into this business?

Speaker 3:

I was living in North Georgia at the time and I ran across a man who had a son in my daughter's high school class. This man was Peter Kelly and he was just getting into the electronic idea of having resonance coming through and the equipment is called BETAR Bio-energetic Transduction Aided Resonance we just call it BETAR. So he was coming up with the electronics, the devices and measuring the results. And I did that once and then I moved to Auburn and I just kept remembering that, remembering that I actually went back a couple of times and through the years I was teaching piano at home and I was teaching music appreciation and I just kept thinking I want to do that someday, I want to offer this to other people someday. So I just thought about it and thought about it after I retired from teaching piano. I said you know, this is the time to do this. So a few years ago I contacted the company, I bought the equipment, it was set up and I put the word out that I was here.

Speaker 2:

So you have a background of music already and I think it's pretty widely known that music can definitely be healing. So it's an interesting story you have here of how you are taking that element of music and then combining it with the vibration of music to really help people.

Speaker 3:

Yes, it does. It very much does, and another goal is to help people learn how to do this on their own, if they can. I mean you can be driving in your car and crank up the volume and have a soothing effect there too. The thing I like about my equipment is the visual. When you go in and there's the geodesic dome on the platform, it's just a pleasant place to be very soothing. And there's no, you know, no headphones are gonna touch you. The music is coming through the space, Okay.

Speaker 2:

All right. Well, you know you've been doing this for a little while, do you know? I don't know if people really understand or know about this as a possibility for relief or their stress and anxiety, but are there any misconceptions about doing this kind of treatment?

Speaker 3:

Well, yes, I'll tell you about my husband for one, when I first said I was gonna do this. He's a scientist.

Speaker 2:

I'm a musician.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, okay, so we get the drift. He immediately went and looked this up and started telling me oh, but you better be careful of this and you better watch out for that. He was concerned about the hurt, the level of vibration, and yes, there are limits, there are limits, but we're well within the normal limits. After I had this set up, he decided he would try it and he was hooked. He said this is wonderful.

Speaker 3:

And he never gave me a bit of trouble and he's told lots of people about it and he's still, you know, we still do it, we do it ourselves. Yeah, and that's really how that worked. And the other thing is that we're not doctors and we're not prescribing, and we're just offering you a different way to detach from your busy world and the stress, and this is good for people of all ages. I have an older sister who loves it and I've had my grandchildren do it, so it's available to any and everybody, regardless of your age or your background. You don't have to know music. You can enjoy it without all the years of practice that we put in.

Speaker 2:

Very good. So you know, part of the reason I do this podcast is to also encourage people that are thinking about going into business for themselves, or maybe they're new in business, and I like for them to hear from people that own their own business. Tell me a little bit about any challenges that you may have had, either in the startup of your business or even currently, that you've overcome and has made your business stronger, or maybe even yourself stronger.

Speaker 3:

I've taught piano for 45 years. I taught and different places and I always I was moved around a lot in my life and I always started up again. So I knew how to organize myself and I always taught at home piano lessons. So I had you know people come one on one, all ages, male and female, and I would set my own schedule, my own prices, so forth. So I had done that for many years as a small business person myself. So when I decided to do this I thought, well, it's very, very similar.

Speaker 3:

One person comes at an appointed time. I work with them. They leave. Someone else comes, same thing, and I set my own schedule and I'm like, my own prices, and the thing that I share with people again is to decide which music, what kind of music, would work best, which of the vibrations would give you the best result, and how long of a session, and I make suggestions, but I listen to the person and it's really best if you'll come several times, because we can tweak all that.

Speaker 3:

We can change the music, we can change the vibrations, the volume. All of those things can be adjusted to give you the best result. Okay, you asked about a challenge. Quickly, I'll just say that I opened up in 2019 in an office with plenty of room and a secretary. My granddaughter was the receptionist, and that lasted just until COVID got really started.

Speaker 3:

Of course we had to stop. Nobody could come and we didn't want to expose ourselves or be immediately, so I waited until it was out of the area and decided I'll just take this back home. I have a room in the house where the equipment fits perfectly, and I'll just do it. So I got my business license renewed as a home business, and so I work out of my home now.

Speaker 2:

Okay. Well, tell me, is there one thing that you wish people knew about what you do, that maybe they don't would automatically know?

Speaker 3:

The most important thing is to know there is a place where you can go and be by yourself with yourself and have this experience where you benefit your as we say mind, body and soul. And that's true. You can learn how to turn your mind off, you can feel your body relax and you are also moved spiritually, depending on the music that we're going to do on this session.

Speaker 3:

There's just lots of benefits. I have a man who's been coming since last February and he goes out of the house just a changed person and we decided that once he's finished we won't talk, he will just come out. I'll let him out the door and he goes to his car and sits for a while, so that we don't break the mood, we don't break the tension of the day. So I just invite people to go to the website harmonyin3dcom. All the information is there about me, the business. You can get in touch with me through that, either by email or phone, and come and try, see if it works for you.

Speaker 2:

Well, it sounds incredible and just a very natural way to relieve some stress. We really, in this day and time, we've got stress coming from us at all angles. So, yeah, just a very unique way of relieving stress you have there. Well, sue, thank you so much for joining me. I have thoroughly enjoyed talking with you and learning about harmony in 3D.
