SPEAKER_00:

This is the Good Neighbor Podcast, the place where local businesses and neighbors come together. Here's your host, Susanna Hodges.

SPEAKER_01:

Welcome. My guest is Dr. Paige Edwards with Cornerstone Family Chiropractic in Auburn. Thank you for joining me, Paige. Well, thank you for having me.

SPEAKER_02:

I'm excited.

SPEAKER_01:

I am very much into chiropractic care. I depend on it. And I know that a lot of people do get benefit from chiropractic care. Tell me a little bit about your business and what you do.

SPEAKER_02:

Absolutely. So at Cornerstone Family Chiropractic, we are a family-focused, neurologically based chiropractic office, and we've been around since 2011. We help people of all ages, ranging from like one-day old newborn babies all the way up to 100-year-old grandparents. And we feel, we make sure that people feel and function their best through personalized chiropractic care. And the way we do that is by removing those barriers, which aka subluxations, that's our famous word here in the chiropractic community, that keep our body from healing and working the way it's meant to. Whether someone's dealing with chronic pain, they're expecting a baby and looking for a more holistic approach to support that pregnancy journey, or people just wanting to improve their overall well-being, we're here to support whatever health journey y'all may be taking on.

SPEAKER_01:

Okay. Well, tell me a little bit about you. How did you get into chiropractic care?

SPEAKER_02:

Great question. So I got very lucky and I somehow like fell into the chiropractic world in high school, actually. Um, my local uh woman-run chiropractic office, they needed a chiropractic assistant to work at the front desk. And I knew absolutely nothing about chiropractic, and I thought, great, like let me let me try this new thing. So I got in there. Um, they really took me under their wing and just kind of explored the whole world of chiropractic, including the philosophy behind it and the why. Um, and I kind of realized that it's not just a profession, it's it's really a lifestyle. And so I knew that I wanted to take that on and make it my own. So flash forward to college, I went to Auburn University for my undergrad, War Eagle. And at that time, um, I actually started going to Cornerstone Family Chiropractic as a practice member. Um, and that's where I met Dr. Rusty, who's the owner and the head doc of the office. And he really encouraged me to go to life university um to get my doctorate of chiropractic. And then I ended up doing my internship at Cornerstone um here in Auburn. And I got hired on as an associate chiropractor right after graduation. So it's really been a full circle journey in the chiropractic world.

SPEAKER_01:

Oh, that sounds awesome. Uh so you've been a chiropractor for a while now. Uh, what are some of the uh misconceptions people have about chiropractic care that you've run across?

SPEAKER_02:

Yes, these are my favorite questions because the chiropractic world, we have a lot of those. Um, so the biggest one, and I love to address first, is chiropractic care is only for neck and back pain. Um, actually, only about 10% of the nerves in our body are those pain sensing nerves. The remaining 90% of the nervous system is made up of nerves that handle everything else. So controlling movement, regulating organ function, managing balance, um, and carrying all those sensory and motor information that keeps our body functioning properly 24-7, 365. And so that's why chiropractors and other healthcare professionals often point out that a lack of pain doesn't always mean that you're not functioning optimally because most of your nervous system's job actually has nothing to do with pain at all. So it's just important to get adjusted, make sure those structures are in correct alignment. That way you can function at your highest potential.

SPEAKER_01:

What are some of the uh symptoms of like if you're not having pain, what are what are you looking for, you know, that would prompt you to get chiropractic care?

SPEAKER_02:

That's such a good question. Um, so our office specifically, we're very much focused on like preventative care rather than that retroactive care. So a lot of times people um only come to the chiropractor whenever they start experiencing symptoms, whereas we we see a ton of pregnant women and babies that literally have no symptoms at all. They're totally asymptomatic, and they just know that healthy kids grow up to be healthy adults. And when our spine is in that correct alignment and we don't have that nerve interference that's miss, you know, misconstrued from the brain down that spinal cord and out to the rest of the body. Um, we can function at our highest potential and therefore live at our highest potential.

SPEAKER_01:

Okay. Well, what is one thing you wish people knew about chiropractic care that they may not realize?

SPEAKER_02:

Um, the one thing I wish people realized is that chiropractic care is literally from everybody. So, like I said, we we adjust like one-day old babies all the way ranging up to um like a hundred-year-old grandparents. Every single person has a spine. And that spine, it protects and it houses our nervous system, which controls and coordinates literally everything in our bodies down to every cell, tissue, organ, you name it, it controls it. Um, and the way I like to approach it and think about it is we go to the dentist for our oral health, we go to the biologist for our skin health, the cardiologist for our heart health, et cetera, et cetera. Why wouldn't you go to the chiropractor for your spinal and your nervous system health? You know, um, it's not always just about feeling good in that moment. Um, it's about removing that like long-lasting nerve interference to your body so you can function at its at its highest potential and communicate as effectively as possible.

SPEAKER_01:

Absolutely. Well, let's shift the conversation a minute to you personally. When you're when you're not, you know, doing chiropractic work, what do you like to do for fun?

SPEAKER_02:

Yes, so I am a I'm on full-blown mom mode outside of the office. So I am working with the two, oh yeah. So very busy but very fun. I have um two little boys, one's 21 months old, he'll be two on Christmas, and the other one is four months old. So they keep me very busy all the time. Um, we are always outside doing something, whether it's jumping on the trampoline or going and playing at the park. Um, and then for me personally, I big, I'm a big hiker. I love the national parks. I've been to 13, but my goal on my bucket list is to hit every single national park before I die. That's that's my big one.

SPEAKER_01:

That's fun. That would be a great, a great goal there. Absolutely. Well, how can people get in touch with you if they're interested in having you be their chiropractor? Where can they find you? Great question.

SPEAKER_02:

Um, well, there's a couple different avenues. Um, we actually have four different locations. So the first one and the OG location is the Auburn location off of Airport Road. We have Phoenix City, Foley, and we actually just opened up the fourth one in Huntsville. So if you're in those areas, make sure you check them out. Um, you can reach us by phone. So 334-246-4040 is our phone number. Um, or you can visit us on our website at cornerstoneforhealth.com. And either one of those avenues, you can call and schedule an appointment or ask any questions you may have. Um, you can find us on Instagram, on Facebook if you just type in Cornerstone Family Chiropractic, just make sure you're on the Auburn one or the whatever location um you're closest to. Um, or you can even stop by and say hi. We love to give people tours and just answer some of those deeper rooted questions. Um we're located at 323 Airport Road Suite A, Auburn, Alabama, 36830.

SPEAKER_01:
