Ep.#91: Renew Contouring, Noninvasive Body Sculpting That Actually Works
This is the Good Neighbor Podcast, the place where local businesses and neighbors come together. Here's your host, Suzanne Hodges.
SPEAKER_03:Welcome. And with me is Shannon Kay. She is with Renew Contouring in Auburn and a location in Columbus. Welcome, Shannon. Thank you. Thanks for having me. Tell me a little bit about Renew Contouring. I've had, you know, a little bit of time to look at your website. It looks great. But for our listeners, tell us what you do.
SPEAKER_02:Sure, I'd love to. So we do body contouring. It's what we do, it's all we do. So when you're thinking about doing some changes, maybe after you've had a baby or you're um getting older or you've lost weight, we take care of loose skin, stretch marks, cellulite, and pockets of fat. And we can do that from head to toe with no pain and uh no needles, no, it's non-invasive. So we use ultrasound waves to break down fat cells very gently, and we use radio frequency heat to tighten the skin five layers deep. It's wonderful.
SPEAKER_03:So for people like me, I'm getting a little older and my, you know, uh, I would like to like tighten up my face a little bit. I'm starting to get the little lines on my uh the edges of my lips that makes me look like I'm frowning when I'm really not frowning, you know. Is that something that you do?
SPEAKER_02:I hear you, sister. That's um actually how we got started because I was in your same shoes and I told my husband, I said, you know what, for my birthday and Mother's Day gift, just combine them because my birthday's in May. Like, just combine them and I'm gonna go get Botox, filler, whatever. I'm just gonna go in and have them tell me what I need to do to get rid of these lines, these jowls, these under-eye bags. I just I just want a fresh look, right? I want to age gracefully. So he did that, and I went a couple times and spent over$2,000, and I didn't see a change, I didn't see a difference, and and it hurt so bad. Um, and he was like, How many more times are you gonna do this? Because it was expensive, right? Yeah. I was like, I don't know. I just and I was really seeking something that could help that would be, like I said, age gracefully. I didn't want to like wake up and and I'm 65 or 70 and say, Oh my gosh, I need a facelift. And then I look totally different.
SPEAKER_03:Right. Because it never works out like you think it's going to.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah. So yes, yes, ma'am, we can fix all of those things. And I do it on myself as well.
SPEAKER_03:Awesome. Yeah, I think that's that's definitely, you know, on our minds as we're getting older and we're looking in the mirror. We're like, you know, just a little bit. It really isn't, you don't really need a whole lot, but just a little bit of a lift. And and because my husband's like, Are you mad? I'm like, no.
SPEAKER_02:This is the one I get. Are you tired?
SPEAKER_03:Yeah. I know, I know. So that would be wonderful to be able to fix just those little things. You're not looking to look like you're 20 anymore, but you would like to, you know, not look like you're mad, you know?
SPEAKER_02:Right, that too. Yeah. So when I do mine, it's it's interesting because I um after a treatment, I feel like like when you're putting your makeup on or you're doing your moisturizer or just you know, your morning or evening routine, it feels like when I was uh like 10 years ago. Like the the elastic of the skin, the way my makeup is um being applied. It just it's it's really like turning back the clock. It really is.
SPEAKER_03:Well, what are some, you know, I'm looking at the procedures and they've got all these different names, ultrasonics, thermal lift, and all of these, none of these procedures like are cutting into your skin, right? None of them.
SPEAKER_02:None of them. Wow. No, so and it's the same ultrasound that we use on pregnant ladies to see the baby. It's just a different frequency and it vibrates the fat cell until it bursts, and it doesn't hurt at all. You you hear it in your ears, which is kind of strange, but once you get used to it, you're like, okay, keep keep going because I want these fat cells gone, you know.
SPEAKER_03:Yes. So you've told us a little bit about your journey. You kind of you you kind of had experience with other ways, and that and is that how you got into the business? Was you just not satisfied?
SPEAKER_02:We were looking to start a business. I am a uh career pilot. I've been flying for 20 plus years, and um I decided back in 2023 I didn't want to fly as much anymore. So I okay, well, and I gotta take you back for that too, because who says that? I don't want to fly anymore. Let me tell you why. We have three children. My oldest is 16 and he's disabled, he's non-durable, he's he's he wears diapers. Um, so it's a lot. And then we have a 14-year-old and that's a lot, and then we have an 11-year-old little girl, and that's a lot. A lot, yes. When mom is gone, it's hard on the home, it's hard on the children. So there was a flight that I had back in April of 2023 where I didn't think I was gonna make it home. I had to declare an emergency, it was extremely terrifying. And in that moment, I realized I'm not afraid to die, but I am afraid to leave my children.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah.
SPEAKER_02:At that point, I told my husband depending on you. Yeah, yes, exactly. I'm like, I can't, I can't risk it right now. Maybe when they're older, but right now they need their mama. Yes, I need to be home. So when we were looking for different businesses and we looked at all kinds of different businesses, and when my husband saw this, he was like, Well, maybe I can kill two birds in one stone, you know. Yeah, Shannon can have her anti-aging treatments and we can make some money and and help some other women out, and and it it's exactly done that.
SPEAKER_03:So, when did you start your business?
SPEAKER_02:2023.
SPEAKER_03:23, very good. So you just jumped off a cliff, and that's you know, a lot of the reason, uh, well, the main reason I do this podcast is to encourage others, and I did the same thing, I just jumped off a cliff and went into business for myself. It very much feels that way, and uh, but you know, you're going into your own business here, and uh it's so exciting, but there's always gonna be obstacles or hardships that you know you have to overcome either personally or or in your business. But once you overcome them, it's made you stronger, it's made your business stronger. What are some of those things that you had to encounter in when you started your business?
SPEAKER_02:Well, the business side of it is um, you know, we're dealing with, and I I say dealing with, I don't mean in a in a negative way, we're trying to help women overcome their insecurities. And I did not realize um how a journey that would be. So when when women come to us, and men come to us too, but uh obviously the majority of our clientele is women, um, they come in uh feeling bad about themselves. Right. And so yeah, and through that, um my technicians and I have really developed a way to approach our clients in a sensitive, loving, kind, affirming kind of manner. And you know, it's it's interesting because when people come to us, they're showing us their ugly side, which I don't see it as ugly, but they have seen this part of their body that they think is ugly and they don't want to show people. They've been trying to hide it, they've been trying to camouflage it, they've been trying to fix it, and they're coming and they're showing a complete stranger what they hate about themselves. And that's hard. And so you really have to respect the woman for coming in in the first place to show a complete stranger what she hates about herself. And so over that time, um, our technicians and myself, we have um developed a way to help build confidence in women. So when they leave our office, they're gonna look better, but they're also gonna feel better about themselves. It's not just the outward appearance, it's the inside too. And it's it's strange because think about all the times you've been vulnerable. And in those moments, have you felt safe? Have you felt loved? Have you felt accepted? And here you're vulnerable because you're showing us an insecurity that you have, but we're here to help you through that and let you know that you know you're not alone. We see this every day, and we're gonna fix it, we're gonna be there with you. And and in that moment, those women open up. I mean, yeah, our technicians sometimes feel like counselors, if not.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, I was gonna say, you probably have a little bit of counseling involved there.
SPEAKER_02:Yes, and it's not like we're therapists or anything, but we're like the best friend. We we we listen, we acknowledge, we encourage, and that is the part of this business that I absolutely love.
SPEAKER_03:Absolutely, because you really are making a difference not only in their body, but in their lives.
SPEAKER_02:Absolutely.
SPEAKER_03:Well, what are some of the misconceptions you've come across? People, you know, have ideas about what they're looking into with you. What are some of those misconceptions you'd like to clear up?
SPEAKER_02:Sure. Um, you know, our society as Americans, we're the microwave society. We like one and done, we like it immediately. Um, and that's just not body contouring. Um, actually, that's not really anything, is it? Not that no, it isn't.
SPEAKER_03:Everything takes time.
SPEAKER_02:I mean, weeds grow fast, but oak trees take forever. You know what I mean? So getting the client to understand that this is gonna take time and you have to do your part. So it's not just, you know, you go out and eat Cheetos and drink milkshakes and come to us and we fix it, it's not like that. No, yeah, we need your help too. So um, you know, a healthy lifestyle, and it's really great for people that are trying to make that change, like they want to eat better, they want to, you know, get active, work out, things like that. When you combine our services with that new mindset and lifestyle, it really motivates you because you see the changes so quickly.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, absolutely. Well, let's talk about you for a minute, Shannon. What do you like to do for fun when you're not helping women feel better about themselves?
SPEAKER_02:I saw that question and I was like, what do I do for fun? I don't, I don't know. Um, you know, most of my free time is given to my children. And and I'm not saying that's not fun. Um, it is. I really enjoy my children. Um, my husband and I, we try to travel. We we're not able to go too far because of our son. We don't we don't want to be too far away from uh if an emergency happens, but we do like to travel uh as much as we can. So I would say that's my my fun time.
SPEAKER_03:Absolutely getting out of town for a little bit always helps. It sure does. Yes. Well, what is one thing you wish people knew about renew contouring that they may not realize?
SPEAKER_02:Oh, um, that it works. And and this is funny too, because when we were researching this, my husband was like, oh, it's snake oil. There's no way this could work. These pictures are are you know doctored or photoshopped. I'm the one that does our own before and after photos because I'm I'm the same way. I'm a skeptic. Um I'm like, oh, they changed this, or they I don't I don't know how to use um Photoshop. Yeah. So I um it it works, it works. Um because a lot of people look at the before and afters and they're like, there's there's no way, but I'm I'm telling you, it does. You just have to stay at it. It takes a few months. And and but it in the grand scheme of things, if you compare that to like plastic surgery, cosmetic surgery, liposuction, a few months is nothing because you're gonna have to deal with those scars for life. You're gonna have to recover, take recovery takes months when you get something like that done. So if you weigh those options and the cost, we're a fraction of the cost compared to that. So um that's you know, that's what I want people to know is that it is a wonderful alternative to cosmetic surgery. Um if it's if it's done right.
SPEAKER_03:Exactly. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah. And it doesn't really have it.
SPEAKER_03:That's right. Well, how can people learn more about you? Where do where's your website? Yeah, I'm sure you have social media, phone number. How's what's the best way to get in touch with it?
SPEAKER_02:We do, yeah. Um, we have uh renewcontouring.com. We love we love our website, it it explains all of our different modalities. Um, and there's a contact page on there if anybody has questions. Um, we have Instagram at renew contouring, we have uh TikTok at renew contouring. We have some fun on on there, so don't judge me when you see when you see those videos. Yeah, we try to get on that bandwagon every once in a while. We're like, oh, we got to do this video, it'd be so much fun because we are we are like a family. Um, we're a team, but we're also a family, me and my technicians. Um, and we're also on Facebook, Renew Contouring.
SPEAKER_03:All right, well, thank you for being with me, Shannon. I've enjoyed learning about you and also about renew contouring.
SPEAKER_02:I appreciate you calling me. I was blown away. I I love it. And I've watched some of your interviews, and I love what you do. I just it's so needed in our community, and I love that you highlight people and um and I saw that there is a strong undertone of the love of God, and I just really appreciate that.
SPEAKER_03:Well, that's what I do. I love to tell stories. Uh, I've been doing uh some form of storytelling my whole life, and this is just another way to let people, you know, we we just really connect with each other if we can have conversations, can't we? And so much of our society now is looking at your phone, and we feel so isolated because we're not communicating with each other. So that's why I do this is to let people know about uh people in our community and that we're all, you know, just people and we need to we need to have conversations and learn about each other.
SPEAKER_02:Amen. That's beautiful.
SPEAKER_03:Thank you so much.
SPEAKER_02:Thank you, Susanna.
