Welcome To Good Neighbor Podcast
SPEAKER_00This is the Good Neighbor Podcast, the place where local businesses and neighbors come together. Here's your host, Susanna Hodges.
SPEAKER_02Welcome, and with me is Paige Kemp, and she is the owner of Home RN, serving the Auburn, Opalica area. And welcome, Paige. I'm happy to have you with me today.
What Home RN Care Does
SPEAKER_01Yes, I'm so happy to be here.
SPEAKER_02Tell me a bit about Home RN. What are the kind of services you do?
SPEAKER_01So, Home RN, we are a concierge caregiving service that provides nurse-led, personalized in-home care. Um, it helps people, you know, feel safely and comfortably in their home and giving families peace of mind while we um you know bring care inside their home.
SPEAKER_02Okay. And I think the uh RN part is registered nurse.
SPEAKER_01Is that right? Yes, ma'am. So um all of our admin staff are registered nurses. Um we do all the trainings um with our caregivers as well as nurse visits. Um so anything from you know wound care, IV antibiotics in the home, lab draws within the home, anything nurse related, um our nurses can do that as well.
Paige’s Path From ER To Owner
SPEAKER_02Okay, so that's really uh uh an extra service that you guys provide, having that registered nurse uh capacity there. Yes, ma'am. Yeah, it's great. Well, tell me a little bit about how you got into your business here with Home R and what is your career journey look like?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so I um was an ER nurse for six years, um, loved it, um, did night shift for a while, which you know I think anyone knows that that will wear on you. That's tough, yes. So um I did that for six years, learned so much, and then stepped away from that after I had my first son and COVID had hit. So then um I did do comp hospice for about a year, which was a great change. Um, and I think that's where I kind of learned that the in-home care is really important. Um, and so I've always been like super interested in that. And when um I actually got the opportunity to be one of the registered nurses with Homer in Auburn, um, I just saw firsthand, you know, the difference that it could make in people's lives and families' lives. Um, and when the opportunity was brought to me to, you know, become the owner of Auburn, I knew I couldn't pass it up. Um, you know, investing in the Auburn community and the surrounding areas was just something I couldn't say no to. Um, I'm from here, I was born and raised here most of my life, and I don't plan on leaving, so I knew that um that this would be a great opportunity for me and my family.
SPEAKER_02Awesome. And and you know, going into business is a daunting task sometimes. And um, so I applaud you for doing that, going into business for yourself. It's always uh uh uh uh scary but also very fulfilling, right?
The Biggest In-Home Care Myth
SPEAKER_01Yes, absolutely.
SPEAKER_02Well, tell me a little bit about some of the misconceptions people may have. I'm sure you've run across them about in-home care.
SPEAKER_01Yes, so I would say the most number one common misconception is that families feel they should wait until an actual crisis happens before seeking in-home care. Um, but in reality, starting care early can actually help and prevent hospitalizations, um, reduce the stress for families, and allow the actual patient to maintain independence in their own home for a longer period of time. Um, we do see that a lot of families call us when something does happen. And so then they're getting, you know, having to move them into assisted livings and that sort of thing. And so it just allows families to be able to keep them at home for as long as possible if they can get things going a lot earlier.
Family Life And Auburn Roots
SPEAKER_02Yeah, absolutely. Uh and that's uh always what you want is to stay at home as long as possible. Well, let's talk about you for a minute. What do you and your family like to do for fun when you're not taking care of other people?
SPEAKER_01Um, so um my husband and I, we have two kids, um, Easton and Everly, and they go to Auburn City Schools. Um, and so like I said, we just we love the Auburn community. Um, but when we're not here, we love to go on trips to the beach. My in-laws live at the beach, so that's like our happy place. Um, we love, like I said, anything Auburn, Auburn baseball, football, um, being on campus, and then of course, spending time with um our other family and friends.
Caring For Neighbors With Purpose
SPEAKER_02That's good. That's good. Uh well, what is one thing that you wish people knew about home are in that they may not realize?
How To Reach Home RN Care
SPEAKER_01Um, I would say one thing I really want people to know about our business is that we're not just providing a service. Um, you know, we're caring for your neighbor. Um with concierge caregiving, our goal is to help people stay safe, comfortable, and independent in the place they love most, their home. And so as a nurse, I've seen how compassionate personalized care can change someone's quality of life. And so that's why we're committed to serving the community and we want to be here for families when that time comes. Absolutely. Well, how can people come like you? So they can reach out um really any way. So we are always answering the phone. Um, it's you always either get me or my other nurses. It's not an automatic system. It will always be one of us. Um, and we're happy to speak with families, answer any questions, and walk through what that um in-home care process looks like. Um, you can also visit our website and then um or connect with us online. Um you can submit a booking request and we can call you, answer any questions, send you all of our info. Um, and yeah, we would love the opportunity to help.
SPEAKER_02All right, awesome. So when you're looking it up online, just homernauburn.com. Is that it? No, it's actually homerncare.com. Okay, home rncare.
SPEAKER_01Yes, Sam. We have several um franchises throughout, and so everyone's on there, and then they can click on Auburn Montgomery, and that will take them to our page.
SPEAKER_02Yep, I'm doing it right now, seeing it. Okay, awesome. Very good. Well, thank you, Paige. I appreciate your time today and learning more about Home Ari and Auburn. Yes, thank you so much.
