This Mindset Shift Will Change How You Wait
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Waiting can feel like a room with no windows: you keep checking the door, re-reading the same signs, and wondering why everyone else seems to get called forward first. We sit in that tension and talk about what Jesus says in Matthew 6 when worry starts creeping in, not because our needs are small, but because waiting can do real work on our hearts. If you’re waiting for love, healing, direction, restoration, a diagnosis, provision, or your next step, you’ll hear language for what you’re carrying and a gentler way to hold it.
We unpack the “waiting room” mindset and the comparison spiral that comes with it: watching other people get engaged, buy homes, have babies, or land opportunities while you feel stuck in the same season. We name the lie that quietly steals your life one day at a time: “my life will begin when…” Then we slow down on a key line from Scripture, “Seek first the kingdom of God,” and talk about what that really means. It’s not a command to stop hoping. It’s an invitation to stop making the outcome the center of your world, and to choose God’s presence, peace, and joy today.
You’ll also hear why waiting is not evidence that God has forgotten you. Over and over in the Bible, waiting is where God forms people, prepares them, and grows their faith. We close with practical ways to live fully while you wait and one question to carry into your week: what am I seeking first? Welcome And The Waiting Room
SpeakerHello, loves. Welcome back to 1 True Talks. Today we are going to talk about the waiting room. I am so happy to be here to have this conversation with you because lately I've been reading through the book of Matthew during my quiet time. And there was a section this week that I couldn't stop thinking about. You know, when you read a message you've read a hundred times before, but all of a sudden, it feels like you're reading it for the first time. What happened to me this week? And honestly, I spent a lot of time waiting, waiting for prayer to be answered, waiting for clarity, waiting for the next opportunity, waiting for healing, waiting for the next chapter. And maybe you do too. Maybe you're waiting for a relationship. Maybe you're waiting for a baby. Maybe you're waiting for a financial breakthrough. Maybe you're waiting for a phone call of a diagnosis, a promotion, or simply wondering what God is doing in this season of your life.
Reading Matthew 6 On Worry
SpeakerAnd as I was sitting, all of that, I opened up Matthew 6, and Jesus started talking about worry. Not because he doesn't know what we are waiting for, but because he knows exactly what waiting can do to our hearts. So I want to read this passage together and then just talk about what God has been teaching me through it that I hope is helpful for you. Jesus knows what you're waiting for. I'm reading from Matthew 6:25 through 34. Therefore, I tell you, don't worry about your life, what you will eat, or what you will drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Isn't life more than food and the body more than clothing? Consider the birds of the sky. They don't soar or reap or gather into barns. Yet your heavenly father feeds them. Aren't you worth more than they? Can I just pause here for a second? Because I think something we hear don't worry and assume Jesus says, stop caring. But that's not what he's saying. He's saying you have a father who already knows. And I feel like a lot of us need that reminder because our first instinct is usually to figure everything out, to make a plan, to fix it, to control it, or honestly, to refresh something. Refresh the email, refresh the bank account, refresh the social media, refresh the dating app, refresh the test results, refresh the circumstances. And meanwhile, Jesus is gently saying, look at me.
Stop Trying To Control Everything
SpeakerLet's talk about the waiting room. The passage also made me think about a waiting room. Nobody enjoys a waiting room. You're constantly checking the clock. Every time the door opens, you look up. You're wondering why everyone else seems to be getting called before you. You start comparing your timeline with everybody else's timeline. And I realized I think a lot of us are living our spiritual lives exactly like that. We're sitting in God's waiting room, watching everyone else get engaged, watching everyone else buy a house, watching everybody else have babies, watching everybody else get a promotion, watching everybody else seamlessly move forward while you're sitting in the same chair we've been sitting in for months or maybe even years. And instead of noticing God's presence, we're staring at the door, waiting for our name to be called, the lie that life starts later. Jesus continues in Matthew 6 saying, Can any of you add on moment to his lifespan by worrying? And the question challenged me because I think one of the biggest lies we believe is that my life will really begin when I get married, when I lose weight, when I get healthier, when I get a new job, when I have more money, when I finally figure out God's plan. And without realizing it, we postpone joy, we postpone gratitude, we postpone living life to the fullest. We convince ourselves that today's season is just something to survive until God finally gives us what we've been asking for. But nowhere in scripture does Jesus tell us to put our lives on hold. Instead, he invites us to walk with him today. Not someday, but today, right now, in this moment, then we come to one of the most quoted verses in the Bible. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you in Matthew 6: 33. I've heard that verse my whole life, but this week I noticed something different. Jesus doesn't say, don't desire marriage. He doesn't say don't hope for provision. He knows those things matter. What he's saying is, don't make those things the center of your life, because we're always seeking something. We're seeking clarity, we're seeking approval, we're seeking comfort, we're seeking control, we're seeking answers. And Jesus lovingly says, seek me first. Not because he is trying
The Waiting Room Comparison Trap
Speakerto take something from us, but because he wants to give us something that circumstances can never take away. His presence, his peace, his joy, his kingdom. God is still working. One of my favorite things about scripture is that almost every person God uses had to wait. Abraham waited, Joseph waited, David waited, Ruth waited, even Jesus spent years in ordinary, quiet life before his public ministry ever began. Waiting was never evidence that God had forgotten them. It was often where he was forming them. And I wonder, what if God is doing his deepest work in the season you're most eager to leave? What if he's growing your faith, teaching dependence, building character, preparing you for something you can't even see? Maybe your waiting season isn't empty. Maybe it's divine intervention for your higher God-given purpose. Your imitation. Every day has enough trouble of its own. I love that because Jesus keeps bringing us back to today. Not next year, not five years from now, today. So maybe tomorrow morning looks a little different. Before reaching for Instagram, reaching for scripture, before opening the dating app, open your Bible, before asking God, when are you going to change my circumstance? Ask God, how can I know you more today? Because maybe that's the invitation. Not to stop hoping, not to stop praying, but to stop postponing our joy until the prayer is answered. Go take a walk. Call your parents, laugh with your friends, serve a church, start the project, take a class, volunteer. Love the people God has already placed in front of you well. Because your life isn't waiting
The Lie That Life Starts Later
Speakerto begin. It's happening right now. So, in conclusion, I want to leave you with one question that's been sitting on my heart all week. What am I seeking first? Not what I say I'm seeking, not what I wish I'm seeking, not what am I actually pursuing every single day. Because here's the beautiful promise of Matthew 6. We have a father who already knows what we need. We don't have to chase his attention. We already have his love. We don't have to convince him to care. Father, thank you for meeting with us in the waiting. Thank you. You are just as present in the unanswered prayers as you are in miracle. For every person listening who feels forgotten, remind them that you see them. For every person who feels behind, remind them that your timing is perfect. For every person carrying disappointment, replace it with hope. Teach us to seek your kingdom before we seek certainty. Teach us to trust your heart when we can't yet see your hand. And help us remember that you are still moving, still working, and still writing a story more beautiful than we could ever imagine. We love you. In Jesus' name. Amen. Thank you so much for spending this time with me. And wherever you find yourself today, whether you're waiting for love, healing, direction,
