The Talents and a Penny

There was a conversation at the Train Man's place of work concerning the talents, in relation with today's business world.  In comparison to the kingdom of heaven, Jesus relates it to the man making a trip out of town and given the servants talents to increase his business.  While he was out of the office, the servants did what they were told, except for one.  Also, the conversation continued into a day's wages for those were worked in the vineyard, as we know today as our jobs with benefits.  The Train Man relates what was discuss into a message called The Talents and a penny.  For more information, check out our website: www.TheTrainManATL.net.

And greetings from the train man ATL Chronicles. I have a interesting conversation with one of my co-workers and he was explaining to me along with the manager at work. Now I work at the Atlanta. And we were discussing certain things that going on uh in the world of billionaires getting tax break and the poor is still the poor. Jesus said the poor would always be with you. And so this particular conversation that one of my coworkers came up with about the talents. And he was referring to Matthew the twenty fifth chapter, fourteen all the way to the thirtieth. Now let me explain to you about the talent. The talents is large unit of money or weight. And in the old testament is a unit of weight in terms of precious metal. But when Jesus was talking about it, he was talking about a unit of currency, a sum of money. Now I'm calling this message the talent and the penny. The penny back in those days, which is which is a day pay. I'm gonna refer that to Matthew twenty, the first first to the sixteenth. But let me read you about Matthew twenty five. Gonna start with the fourteenth verse. It says for the kingdom of heaven is a man traveling into a far country. Now this is what Jesus was saying in terms of how a steward can be beneficial in terms of another man's money. Let me read on who call his own servants and deliver unto them his goods fifteen said and unto one he gave five talents, which is, like I said, a unit a currency to another two and to another one. To every man according to his several ability. That means what he can do with it, his ability, his capacity to and straightway took his journey. Then he that received the five talent went and trade with the same and made them other five talent, and likewise he that received the two he also gained other talent, and likewise he that have received two, he also gained another two. eighteen says, but he that has received one went and dig in the earth and hid his Lord money. He didn't want to have no dealings with him. He just hid it towel underneath the earth and uh he will explain why he did that in a little bit here. After a long time the Lord of those servant cometh and reckoning with them and so he verse twenty and so he that had the five talent came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliverest unto me five talent. Behold I gain, I have gained beside them five talents more. And the Lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant. Thou hast been faithful over a few things. I will make thee ruler over many things. Enter thou into the joy of the Lord. Now that statement is related to what Jesus has said in terms of coming into his kingdom. If you're faithful to Christ and if you are hearing his word, believing on him, and understanding what Christ is all about, he died, but risen as man on the right hand of God and redemption and remission of sin belongs to the man who believes in Christ. That statement regarding enter thou into the joy of the Lord place of joy with the Lord is a statement saying the Lord is pleased with what I'm doing. He pleased with how I well let's say he's pleased with the talent that he gave me so I can utilize the talent and and produce more. But he gave you that talent, you increase that talent through the Lord, not through man, okay? Not through his uh chronal mind, but through God. God give you a talent, you utilize it and increase it. It's not the idea of being rich, it's not the idea of being prospering in man's world, it's the idea of being prospering and rich in God. Let's read on twenty two said he also that had received two talent came and said Lord thou deliverest me unto me two talent. Behold I have gained two other talents besides him. His Lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant, thou hast been faithful over a few things, I'll make thee ruler over many things. Enter thou into the joy of the Lord. And then twenty four says and then he which has received the one talent came and said, Lord I knew thee that thou art a hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strawed, and I was afraid and went and went and hid thy talent in the earth. Lo there thou hast that is mine, thine. twenty six says the his lord answer and said unto him, Thou wicked and soft servant. Thou knewest that I reap where I sow not, and gather where I have not strong. Thou ought therefore to have put my money there's the word money, the talent, money in relationship with your ability to utilize this piece of talent and increase it. Money to exchangers and then at my coming I should have received my own with usury, usury in in the sense of uh exchange, you know, bankers and uh interest. So you put the money in the bank and it gain interest. The money that you give to me, I want to utilize it in the bank or investing. Well, the stocks are uh they up and down each day Monday through Friday. And you put your money in the stock, it goes up one day and then goes down uh another day, and then some days it will be up, up, up, and then some days it would be down, down, down. Because you're dealing with other banks, you're dealing with other companies that have stock in in there in you know the Dow Jones industrial stock, uh, SP. Stock fluctuate. But he said the bankers, these bankers they do have percentage of interest where if you put the money in there, the interest accumulate each day. And if you put like a talent, let's say put in a talent or amount of money, and it goes up, maybe they have like a percentage, two, three percent, four or five percent daily or whatever, that money will increase. On that one tile, it could be an increase to two dollars in a matter of time or three or four. That was Jesus was saying. Twenty-seven, let's read that again, thou ought therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received my own usury, my own interest. Then twenty eight said, Take therefore the talent from him and give it unto him which has the ten talent, for every one that has shall be given, and he that shall have abundance, but from him that has not shall be taken away and even that he has, and cast ye the unprofitable servant into out of darkness. There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. But see, Jesus was saying that the talent that the Lord gives you multiply it. Even if you have to put it in the bank to earn interest. And the two, the one with the five and one with the ten, they doubled it. Now, let me uh go a different direction here. Go to Matthew twenty. I'm gonna read verse first verse all the way down. And this one is about the penny. It's diversely the same concepts because you working in as in the vineyard, and co-worker did mention that instead of the plantation where you are a slave to the company, you're working in the vineyard to earn the money that you want to be earning. And we at uh our company at the plane train in Atlanta airport, we we we earn money. We work, it's a vineyard, and the vineyard is uh making money. The airport is making money. That's the easiest thing I can say to you. And you get a job at the airport with benefits. You you you find a job with benefits and that benefit will earn you health, uh dental, uh eyeglass, eye um health, um security for your house, legal service, all sorts of good things that this vineyard or you want to call it a job, a steady job. Not these jobs that out here that going to give you a job but don't give you benefits. Retirement when you get older and you want to retire and you can get your 401k, Social Security and all that. Uh-uh. These jobs got benefits. When you retire, you get your 141k, you get your social security. Other jobs, they just let you go work as a slave. And you don't want to be a slave. You want benefits. You want to work at a job that has benefits. Now, let me quickly do uh uh Matthew twenty and psalm first one. For the king of heaven is like unto a man that is a householder, which a rich man, you know, being billionaires, they got companies all over the place, and somehow or another they get tax breaks and all that. Where that tax break gonna fall into? We pay taxes. The upper, the middle, and the lower class of people. They work in the vineyard, they are taxed, which came out early in the morning. Early in the morning now. Check this out. Up early in the morning to hire laborers into his vineyard. Labor laborers into his vineyard. And vineyard is represented as a place to work, okay? And when he had agreed with the laborers for a penny a day, he sent them into the his vineyard. Now remember a penny a day is a day's wage at that time. It may be on any amount that the householder may give you or the child of the job or HR which is human resource where I give you all this amount for you to work and then it's for one day. Now verse two, verse three, Reverend And he went out about a third hour and saw others standing idle in the marketplace, and said unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard, and whatsoever is right I will give you. And they went their way. Remember, he's paid them a penny a day, you know, a day's wage. Okay? Verse four and said unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard, and whatsoever is right I will give you. And they went out on their way. Out again he went out about the sixth hour and the ninth hour and did likewise. Oh about the eleventh he went out and found others standing idle and said unto them Why stand ye here all the day idle? They said they said unto him, because no man has hired up. He said unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard, and whatsoever is right remember that whatsoever is right that is equal to a day's pay. Okay and what also whatsoever is right that shall ye receive. So when Eve Eve was come, the Lord of the vineyard said unto his servant, Steward, call the laborers and give them their hire beginning from the last to the first. Remember okay, there was another another in that same conversation that when the the rich man was uh giving all his goods into the in the storehouse, let's say, and he got these workers and the rich man start paying him just like today, uh the people get paid first before the rich man gets his the amount of money they ask for, they will get paid one by one. And then whatever is left which is probably a lot more than what they get paid for. He paid himself last. He's the last person to get paid. He always be the last person to get paid because it's his company. It's his company because he tr he um investing in it, he's uh w building it up. He's an investor. So apparently he get he's the last person to get paid. He paid everybody else, his employee, he get paid everybody else, and he's the last person to get paid. Now eight said, So when evening come, the Lord of the vineyard said unto his steward, call the laborers and give them their high beginning from the last unto the first. And when they came that were higher about the eleven hour, they received every man a penny, which is a day's wage. But when the first came they suppose that they should have received more, and they likewise received every man a penny, a day's wage. And when they had received it they murmured against the good men of the house, saying these lads have wrought but one hour, and thou hast made them equal unto us, which have bore the burden and heat of the day. thirteen said, But he answered one of them and said, Friend, I do thee no wrong. Does not thou agree with me for a penny? Take that thine is and go thy way. I will give unto the lad even as unto thee. fifteen is it not lawful for me to do what I will with my own? Is my eye evil because I am good? So the last shall be first and the first shall be last for many because few are chosen. Jesus was risen from the dead. He taught his disciples how to spread the gospel to all the earth beginning in Jerusalem. Now that was two thousand years ago. Now in the kingdom of heaven, do you think that the ministers the women and the men going out and preach and teach uh Christ to the other most part of the world, you think they're gonna be first or do you think they're gonna be last? Because as this statement said, so the last shall be first and the first shall be last, for many be called. We are called by God to work in the venue. We are called by God to obey him. We are called by God to hearken unto his voice to preach the gospel, but few children. I'm gonna leave you with that. Let you think about that, because many times Jesus wants you to understand him. He's sitting on the right hand of God. And we may be the last, but he considered us being the first. And when you hear the word of God, wherever you hear the word of God and you receive Jesus Christ as your as with a personal savior, and believe on him who died on the cross and risen up and is seated at right hand of Almighty. You are you are among us. You among God's kingdom. You have the Holy Spirit, you have his word, you are anointed by God. Father, I pray that everything works out for these people. Let them learn about the talent and the penny of day's ways and accept it, and they will increase as the Lord increase their ability. Through God in Jesus' name.
