The BTB19 year is about to kick off with the PodBoffins, bringing live to you from Madison Square Garden, the Marquee & Player Drafts for the upcoming season. A quick recap of BTB18 major award winners closes one door and opens the next. This is the calm before the draft storm...
BTB 18 is in the rear view mirror. We now look forward to beat the ball 19. All battles commenced this Saturday. But before then, we have to decide who is who in the zoo. With the marquee draft, followed by the BTB 19 player draft. Whose team are you on?
SPEAKER_01Snap, snah. This frog is capitalistic. Whose turn is it?
SPEAKER_00I should have done a button to let his rain at the top be spoiled by some freak. Sideshow clown.
unknownHere little puppy.
SPEAKER_02I agree, Lipper. 100% mate.
unknownWoof woof!
SPEAKER_04King Browns. Did somebody say snakes?
SPEAKER_01Snakes. Why do they have to be snakes? To be a Wrangler, you've gotta stay with it.
SPEAKER_07Just forget it, let it go. Excuse me, I I think you forgot my bread. Bread? Two dollars extra. Two dollars? What do you want in front of me? Got free bread. You want bread? Yes, please. Three dollars. Nothing for you.
SPEAKER_04Be the ball.
SPEAKER_02What the fuck? Holy shit, mate.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, baby, that's got me going. Oh baby, that's what I like.
SPEAKER_03Beatleball nineteen is in the house. Hello, hello, hello. Here we go, boys. Here we go, here we go, here we go.
SPEAKER_02Where are we going, boys?
SPEAKER_04We are going to Cannes, my friend, Beatleball 19.
SPEAKER_03It's nearly here. That it is, my friend, that it is. But we've got a couple of things we need to tie up first as we sit here at the world-renowned, famous Manhattan Madison Square Garden. Unbelievable this year being the Balboa Creed Tour, we have access to this great place for our Be the Ball 19 marquee and player drafts.
SPEAKER_05Good morning, Bee the Ballers, and welcome back to this, our first podcast of the new season, and our comp air has forgot to welcome you in. I certainly have not, because I am a professional. He is still in Amateurville.
SPEAKER_03No, I'm not, no, I'm not. I hadn't forgotten the Bee the Ballers at all. We will get into that. But right now, hello boys, by the way. Right now we are at Madison Square Garden. And I tell you what, there's been some magnificent fights over the years here, held here boxing in particular. Ali Frazier, you know, twice they were here. And the third one in the middle, where was that at? I know that one. It was the rumble in the jungle.
SPEAKER_04Some of the gre one of the great boxing trilogies of all time.
SPEAKER_03That's right.
SPEAKER_02So Ali Frazier. I've never heard of him, mate. Uh is here like from the Middle East.
SPEAKER_05Now you moron. He's uh Muhammad Ali, one of the greatest boxers to ever pull the gloves on, versus Joe Frazier, who wasn't far behind him just quietly. Oh, okay, that makes more sense now.
SPEAKER_02Thank you very much.
SPEAKER_03Any relation to Dawn?
SPEAKER_02Dawn Ali? Isn't that an Indian dish, mate?
SPEAKER_03I do like a bit of beef in the loo. I wonder what all that banger was.
SPEAKER_02You shouldn't eat anything in the toilet or bathroom, mate, ever.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, that's private business, but you know, whatever you do in the lavatory is up to you, Ron, but I don't know if that was fit for the airwaves. What are you talking about? I like beef Vindaloo.
SPEAKER_04All right, all right. So he likes beef in the loo. You know, whatever. That's his awn proclivities are his.
SPEAKER_03No, you've all got it stuffed up, and I'm moving on from that. It's an actual Indian dish. I thought that's where we were going.
SPEAKER_05I thought we were at Madison Square Garden and we're already here.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I don't want to go anywhere else, mate. We only just got here, you know?
SPEAKER_03We're not going anywhere else. Oh, this is an absolute bloody shambles. Start again on and leave your toilet habits out of it this time. I will. So we're here at Madison Square Garden. Do you know there's been two popes that have been here as well over the years? Oh, you must mean Lloyd and Ollie. Oh, Lloyd, that little red-headed turner. He's not a bad spinner when he doesn't get thumped around. And Ollie, I don't know why a bloody pom was allowed in here, but sorry about that, Buckley. Oh, you're more than welcome. We love pommies. Hey, and be the ball. Not so much at Madison Square Garden. Why would Lloyd Pope and Ollie Pope have been here? I'm talking about Francis and John Paul II, you bloody imbeciles. This has got off to a rough start, fellas. We've got to be better than this. We are under the pump this year from Bruce and the boys. You know he wants us to do all sorts of extra stuff, so let's get it right.
SPEAKER_05Ah, for fact's sake.
SPEAKER_03I'm with you. Give him a golf Ben.
SPEAKER_05What are you talking about? I've spilt coffee all over the front of my base slacks. Looks like I've shipped myself backwards.
SPEAKER_02Oh yeah, mate, that is nasty. Look at that. Oh, there's a merch shop.
SPEAKER_05We'll go and get you a big pair of New York knickers.
SPEAKER_03I'm not wearing underpants around New York. Me either. I've gone commando. Getting back to what you said, Laurie, yes, the New York Knicks, they won the NBA for the first time in about half a century, only a couple of weeks ago. Uh and this is their home as well. Uh uh ice hockey team too. Not many people know there's actually an ice hockey arena under the basketball court. That must get very congested. Yeah, the basketball is slipping over and the hockey team trying to slam dunk the puck.
SPEAKER_04Uh when you said there was the two Pops here on uh were they saying mass? That's right, they were. They one of them said mass here at least.
SPEAKER_02So we had a couple of boxes going at it. We've got their basketballers slipping everywhere, we've got the hockey team who uh can't get up to the net, and we've got the mass trying to be set at all at the same time, mate. No wonder this place is so famous, mate.
SPEAKER_03I'm ignoring all of that. Uh so the New York Knicks were originally called the New York Knickerbockers. I'm not putting Knickerbockers on.
SPEAKER_05No way in the fucking world.
SPEAKER_03I didn't say you had to. Just sit back down. We can all see that coffee stand, and you're right. It's a dead set blight on humanity, that thing. Uh anyway, that's why the Knicks are called the Knicks.
SPEAKER_02Oh, thank good for that. I thought you could only play for them if your name was Nick. There would have been a lot of people changing their names, and I can't imagine every Nick is tall and athletic. You know what I'm saying? There'd be some short Knicks.
SPEAKER_03The Stevie Nicks. I think she played here. Yeah, point guard. She was in fleet with Mac, one of the greatest bands ever, you bozos. Alright, ticket sales have been red hot. Just moving right along. I can't get I'm I'm just completely flummoxed. And the Beat the Ball 19, Balboa Krieg Cannes tour tickets for the player draft and marquee drafts are the hottest tickets in town, my friends. And starting tomorrow, we come at you with that marquee draft. But today we've got to have a quick look at what happened in Beat the Ball 18, and we're gonna have a preview of what's coming up in that draft and what we expect to happen. I saw Jerry Seinfeld out there earlier, sensational.
SPEAKER_02Was Kramer with him, mate? I love Kramer.
SPEAKER_04How about Eileen? Always being a sneaky good saucy minks that one.
SPEAKER_05I always preferred George. I think it was the only one who was sensible out of that whole crew.
SPEAKER_03There's going to be plenty of celebs, there's going to be plenty of sightings, and most of all, the guests of honour and New York is waiting eagerly in anticipation for the Be the Ball boys. There we are, lads. You guys, they're waiting for you to get here for ready to find out just who you will be competing for and against next year. But right now, we're going to have a look at Be the Ball 18.
SPEAKER_04Be the Ball 18. The tour that was.
SPEAKER_03Alright boys, we've just got back from Adelaide, and uh to be totally honest, I am only just recovering still. It was a big tour, a great tour, as they all are. And if you can't have fun on those tours, I don't know what we can do for you, to be totally honest. Yeah, it was pretty good. The weather, it looked like uh it was going to be absolutely abysmal, but it cleared up nicely, so we all had a good time. The casino was one of the favourite haunts there. I mean it's a sleepy old town at best of times, but Adelaide, isn't it?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it was fun to be there for a while, mate. Once everything opened, which was about four o'clock in the afternoon. Yeah, but it was good to go back and we did it. The golf courses were pretty good. That was a good test for them.
SPEAKER_05It was wonderful to see actually that the boys actually got tested, stretched a little. And last year's tour, the easy golf courses, late starts, not this one, however, and uh that Sunday morning in particular, my highlight of the entire weekend was uh watching just how crooked Buckley's and Tank Rider Jace were. There was a photo or two that's doing the rounds, and my god, they looked ill those boys.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it was a true test at 7 a.m. start on the Sunday. Uh that found our Mum's Bum champion, and of course, General Buckley's has somehow picked himself up off the canvas, sticking to the Creed Balboa theme, and produced one of the great performances in the Mum's Bum Cup, and him and Entre Enz could not be split as they hit the line. It was exciting stuff for sure. It's only the second time in the history of the Beat the Ball that we've had two tied winners. The first one was a handful of years ago, and I believe it was in Cairns, actually. Last time we were up there, and that was devastating. Dave and Crazy 80s dude. They split that green jacket down the middle and shared half each year and put it back together and gave it to the next bloke. Tango Tom, who didn't take it off for twelve months, didn't wore it everywhere he did, even in the bath.
SPEAKER_04It was a fabulous effort. I mean, General Barclays there were a few people who noticed at that last Cairns tour that this guy could win it one day. They were absolutely sure of it, had a great game, and on trend whereas who will ever forget that drinking performance of his, Beat the Ball 14 Sydney, where he was the overnight leader, dappily dressed, and he had about 75 drinks in front of him at one stage and got through the lot. Had to be carried on once the call there hit once we left the Doncaster Hotel. Uh but once that was his preview to what was coming down the lane.
SPEAKER_03It was a fantastic effort. They won by four shots from Nicoby Rising, who had his best effort in about 12 starts, maybe even more than that. Uh and Nicoby has shown that he's been getting some secret golf lessons out there in Dubbo and Central West. And uh he performed admirably and for a long time there he looked the winner, but the golfing committee, uh aka Gruntengrow and Roger, that diva, they had a job on their hands, you know. Luckily there was both of them there. They needed all their fingers to calculate who was winning, uh, and it went down and that was a tie.
SPEAKER_02But uh mate, that that's good that there's a tie, but what happens in future, mate, if if there's three winners or four, or oh my god, what happens if six tie one day?
SPEAKER_03That's a very good question, and it's uh been decided by Carnival. I don't think he's actually even talked to anyone else about it, but uh oh he did actually on tour. Let's give him a break. Uh if there's any more than three, there will be a countback system employed. Quite happy to declare dual winners. Uh it's not I don't think it's fair, and I actually agree with him on this, uh, that if you've got duel winners, they should share the spoils. Uh but once you get to three or more, well, there's gonna have to be some sort of system.
SPEAKER_05Sounds like the committee's got a few things in front of them to work out.
SPEAKER_03I'm sure they will under the stewardship of those lads, Grunton and uh Roger, they will be fine. But all congratulations and kudos. One Catalog on trendware's number 78, first time his name's on the Mum's Bum Cup jacket and champion board. He's joined by General Buckley's. They will be forever holding hands in beat the ball time. Well done, gentlemen.
SPEAKER_05It was great to see the King Brown there with number 82 General Buckley's. I must say I am impressed and thoroughly believe that the King Browns could break their hoodoo, their duck, their cabinet full of wooden spoons. What am I talking about? Their whole town full of wooden spoons, everything's made out of wooden spoons out there in King Brown town, and I've got a good feeling Beatleball nineteen could well be their year. Well they need it, don't they? Faired income. They've been around for a decade and they haven't won one yet. They've only finished in the top two once.
SPEAKER_03And that was second. That was the year that the Cattle Dogs got their solo triumph. Uh those Wranglers, they are the ones to catch at the moment. They've shown a clean pair of heels last two tours.
SPEAKER_04They they have and they took out the T Heat C Premiership in Feinstay once again, back to back. Go you Wranglers. Who yeah, it was a good neat party team in the town there for the boys, uh, and they got their commemorative t-shirts that Skipper Sage or Sam had organized for them, uh, much to the disgust of many of the crowd, but those boys just did not care.
SPEAKER_03That's right, the THC Premiership, it was all over really before we got there, let's be honest. They had a 700 point odd lead uh last season, sorry, the season before, and last year going into the Adelaide Tour, they had another big, big lead, and they ended up winning with 5,308 points. Uh they won by 450 odd from the Crocs, uh, who have gone a little bit quiet after their back-to-back triumphs in 14 and 15 beat the balls. Uh, but it was another performance that they should be proud of. Yeah, well the shooters, we had a bit of a down year, but it was Penzerbear's first year as skipper, and I'll tell you what, there's some uh silver linings around those tar clouds that are gathered, and I can't wait for the draft this year. It's going to be absolutely massive. I think Benny is a quick learner, and I think there's gonna be mayhem carnage chaos. That's all I'm gonna say.
SPEAKER_02The Cattle Dogs, mate, the Lebo was doing his best. This year, I believe, that their Cattle Dogs will be going for a uh youth policy. So I'll be interested to see how the draft works out, but they finished third, middle of the table. Not good, not bad. Uh only okay.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it was that. So it was Wranglers first, they've won their second THC premiership now and move into equal second on the all-time ladder. Four premierships. Shooters had won two. Uh the Crocs are still out there on eight. Uh, and we've got now King Brown's looking for their first, shooters will be looking for their third. They will get first picks in the draft, but all kudos and congratulations have to go to the Wranglers. Our be the ball 18 THC premiers.
SPEAKER_00Did you get the license number? What? The truck that ran over your face.
SPEAKER_03Okay, moving right along, our other pillar trophy winners for the season, and I'll tell you what, it was a cracking season as usual, all up, and our triple B tipster of the year was none other than third season vet, and he missed this previous tour with uh a major bout of E bowler on the eve of the tour, and that was Water Tank Matt. He uh led from pillar to post pretty much all through the year. Uh, he took the lead in uh around week 33, I believe, and he was not run down from there. So congratulations to that Wrangler, Water Tank Matt. They had a massive year in the tipping and the Dali Ms, and no doubt that went a long way to them getting the title. Hey, they did.
SPEAKER_04He's been fantastic from the start, and Water Tank Matt was one of two Wranglers that were in that top eight. Gold digger Davabby, he finished sixth. Uh, the big mover in that final five weeks when we went dark on the results, and these were all presented on the Friday night of the tour, of course. Manscaped and Nads, he had a huge last month. He took out the monthly medal for me, uh, but he also got that last winner in the last race of the year, 50 to 1 pop-up there in Queensland, double points. Uh, it got him a massive amount of points, but that moved him up to fifth overall.
SPEAKER_03Yep, uh, so Water Tank Matt, he was our winner and carryover champion now into beat the ball 19. He finished on nine three double nine, three points in front of Mustard Keen Matt. He is just always thereabouts, is he not, Ben?
SPEAKER_05Uh, one of the most consistent players in all of Beat the Ball history, Mustard Keen Matt. He is uh one of the King Brown Diamonds. He had a fabulous year to finish second. He just overtook Londra Leber.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, Leber put in a big performance, mate. He had a rough year with injuries, but he kept picking himself up and dusting himself off and taking one step forward, one punch more. Give me that another round already to go. And what about this for a heartwarming uh little epi episode at the bottom of it? Because I don't know the word that I'm supposed to use, so I'm gonna use that word. Dukes Row Daniel, his son. We have Big Leber and Little Leber. They finished that in fourth for the Cattle Dogs. Fabulous for for the Cattle Dogs, and uh good work, boys. Love you both very much. Thank you. Bye-bye.
SPEAKER_03All right, Mario. Yeah, wonderful coverage there. Waxstar Jimmy was the sole shooter who he was out of this upcoming tour. He's suffered a couple of knee injuries, a shoulder injury, two wrists, uh, and uh apparently he Achilles. Now I'm uh I don't know about that last one. I'll threw that in, but it makes it sound even he's got to get a few operations, let's just say that. So big Waxstar Jimmy, he could barely make his way up to the pub for that uh parte on the Thursday night of the tour. Uh, he's gonna take the year off and get himself all fixed up. He finished seventh. And saving private, he went into that final week, the skipper of the King Browns, he was the second of them in the triple B tipping, and he took number five for every race in all of those last five weeks. He defaulted to his default number. A backup number for some of those who don't know what default really means. I'm one of them. I know you are, Mario. So it's his backup number and it did jack shit. Let's be totally honest. Sweet FA. He finished eighth apart of me. Uh so well done to all those boys.
SPEAKER_05Moving on to punter of the year and another King Brown, shining bread, Frogman Grant. He must be close to being a marquee player. I've got to say, he is just improving year on year on year. He uh got that big and a real multi there in uh I think it was in the week 30s as well, somewhere in the middle there, and was never headed after that six hundred dollar plus collector. Of course, it's a strategic event these days, but Frogman Grant, well done popular trophy winner, and uh now on the boards for all-time legends within the tour.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it was a great effort from Frogman Grant, Punter of the Year. He was always going to be difficult to run down once he hit the lead, uh, you know, two-thirds of the way through the season. Uh, you've got to punt outside the square then to try and catch him. Or you take that strategic view, which the Crocs did all year, and had a pretty fair year on Punter of the Year, as did the shooters overall, because they decided that they were going to go and try and get back in and and not leave with losing big points. So uh overall in the teams for Punter of the Year, the shooters were 882, and they actually streeted the field. Great effort there. Come later Ronste and Hero Lee Harry, that tour rookie, uh, they punted very well in particular over that last month, and and they got the shooters right up there on top of the teams ladder. The Wranglers were abysmal down the bottom 518. Crocs were pretty strong in second, 681, uh, Cataldogs and King Browns. Uh, thank God for Frogman Grant, uh, that's all I can say, and Saving Private for the King Browns, because they also took out the Stable Wars top stable, uh, and that was the Daily Martin stable for the King Browns. Mustard Key Matt, Frogman Grant, Manscaped and ads, trendsetter tot, and airwin Geordie in his very first season. They took out the teams event in Stable Wars, but Frogman Grant was number one in Punter of the Year. Saving Private, runner up to 467 points in total for Frogman, 221 for Saving Private. The only other players in the black were copy that Kondo shooter, who led early on for a long time. He finished third on 110. Smitty win 34 for the Wranglers. Dukes Row, Daniel, and Ballroom Benny, 33 and 5. Ballroom Benny not touring again this year, of course. He's decided to uh withdraw. He is the thorn under a rose, so to speak. Those of know what I mean, they will understand. Come later, Ronste, shooter, two points. The rest. So that was at about eight. Finished in the black. Uh, and we had some absolutely disastrous, uh, devastating Dave and Casey as Paul. They finished on minus 120 for the year. General Buckley's minus 120. Metro Matt minus 110 for the King Browns. And the Wranglers, as I said, they were absolutely awful. Uh, so well done, Frogman Grant. This year's Pillar Trophy Punter of the Year.
SPEAKER_04Well, we're on a roll. We better look at that fourth one here, and the big man of the year. That completes the four cornerstones of the Be the Ball Tour. It went to none other than number one Craig's Carnival, who's won it for the first time ever, a Wrangler. And uh I tell you what, he was very humbled by it, uh, especially the scroll that was delivered to him. Mickey B. McKenna and the other skippers of the teams were adamant early in the season that he was going to be officially recognised as a big man of the year.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it's taken a bloody long enough, 18 years, a big fella. But I'll tell you what it did do, it moved him into that elite company, you know. Rhinestone Graham, Roger that Diva, now Craig's Carnival. They're the only three grand slammers. It is the most elite group in beat the ball history, the three of them, and uh I think that was a wonderful thing, and I I know he was nearly moved to tears. Sorbing like a bloody little child he was, Carnival. He was not. You carry it on there. He was very he was very uh humbled and didn't have a lot to say for a change, which was nice for the larger crowd that was there. Uh so he took out that award, and as you said, he is now in that Grand Slam Club.
SPEAKER_02Are there many others waiting to get into that club, mate? Because I would like to get inside one day too, and have a look at it.
SPEAKER_03You're never gonna get there, mate. You don't even play, you're not allowed to play the events.
SPEAKER_02Oh, and maybe mate on already they could name me, you know. I I'm quite happy to take whatever title they give me.
SPEAKER_03How about Chief Dickhead?
SPEAKER_02Oh, no, you're just being cruel, mate.
SPEAKER_03Well, uh uh you might get there one day, Mario. I don't know how to sugarcoat that. Uh there are a few uh who are sitting there. Uh, Gary is tough, he's been on three for a long time now. He did take that two year sojourn out of the tour. Uh, but he is back now and uh he's starting to find a bit of form again. So if he can get in get in there, he is the next one off the rank, you would imagine. Mickey McKenna's got a couple, he's been around for a long time. I think he's still down a couple, he's punting and uh tipping. He needs to uh improve on them.
SPEAKER_05I believe devastating Dave and Craig's 80s do a both also on that doorstep with three each. So there's three cattle dogs from last season who are all waiting to enter that elite club.
SPEAKER_03That they are, and I think uh looking at it, what do they need to get? So Girias stuff needs to get Big Man of the Year. Uh devastating Dave, he needs to get punter of the year, and the way his results went last year, he's a long way from that happening. Crazy 80s, dude, he's sitting on big man of the year. He needs that. And then we've got that stack at two. So Mick and B. McKenna, saving private, come later, Ronste, Mustard Key Matt, Lonro Leber. They are the main ones there. They're all sitting on two, so they need to win a couple more events to get there. But that's what happened there. They're the four pillar winners of the year. So congratulations. Congratulations to the boys, all the big fours. And we're going to quickly just wrap through the rest of the results because we need to just cover that off. Because we want to get down to the player draft. That's what's exciting at the moment. The Mums Mum Cup overnight leader.
SPEAKER_05That was one of my favourite things of the tour. Wyn Danielson. Magnificent effort. That uh he got off a little late. He didn't have to wear the fluore vest because they wouldn't let him into the casino at uh, you know, early hours if he was going to be wearing that. Would have been a big target on his back, but well done there. Uh we got down to the MVP champion and club champion with Craig's Carnival.
SPEAKER_04He's had a big season, but that was a little bit fluky, that, let's be honest. Uh it was a Bradbury win. Stephen Bradbury, if you remember him from the Winter Olympics, this big skater from Australia made his way through to the final. Three of them fell over on the last turn. He came through, took the gold medal. That's pretty much what happened to MVP champion and club champion for Carnival this year.
SPEAKER_05Oh, I think you've been a little bit harsh on it.
SPEAKER_03He has finished runner up a couple of times in both, but you're dead right. So he's capped off a great season. The number one badge holder, so well done, Carnival. And you're right. The boys did fall over in the golf in particular, and the big man of the year, big man of the year, sorry. Uh, those points certainly got him up there. Those 72 points probably got him the club championship victory in the end, just over copy that condo. And as far as the MVPs went, uh, there was a lot of boys in there for a long, long time. And uh in the end, he did just enough to hold them out Carnival. Fellow Wrangler Smitty Wynn, who looked at one stage lucky, was gonna win everything on offer for the season. He sort of fell a bit flat late, but he was second in the MVP, 689. Copy that condo 685. Carnival out in front on 732. Uh Water Tech Matt, uh, he finished fourth, another Wrangler, uh, 683, so three Wranglers out of the top four, and that pretty much explains why they were the premiership winners once again. That it does. You've got to be uh pretty good to uh win right across the board. It's no good having half your team doing well and the other half not. Uh, and that's one of the reasons the Wranglers did win. The Tadoo Trophy. Now that was another big event, twelve events across the entire season. Water tank Matt took that out for the first time in his career here, and another Wrangler running second, Smitty win. So that was a nice victory. In the end, he won by about 15 points, Water Tank Matt. Tank rider Jace had a huge season for the King Browns, elevated to Mark E status last year's draft. Uh, he certainly performed Highwire Will finishing fourth. So three Wranglers out of the top four there across all of the Tattoo trophy events for the season. Uh, and again, that just points to why they were at the champions table come Sunday night. Uh, just to tie it all off now, um, I think we've got the Stefan Wolfe Award. Yes, we have. Uh, what a wonderful effort. Transcetter Todd. Oh, that was one of my favourite moments of the whole tour. Sunday night Chinese. Uh the King Browns didn't get a table, unfortunately. The Chinese they had struggled counting, they gave us four tables instead of five. Uh, but not to matter, we all just got on with it, as you do. Uh so the King Browns sort of were last ones in fashionably late, and uh they all split up on tables, and Todd told the story to the boys on the Wranglers table, actually, about how he has been in two teams on the beatable tour. He was a cattle dog for eight minutes, apparently, uh, which had everyone in stitches. He told the story. Remember Bone Crusher Brad?
SPEAKER_04Hey, who can forget Bonecrusher, the angriest man alive, even when he was uh euphoric he looked like he wanted to bust your skull and shit in your neck, you know. He had the one of those faces, uh arresting punch your head in face.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, he did. Well that was Brad, and uh anyway, Todd tells a story, he turns up for his very first tour. He was a cattle dog, he meets the cattle dog skipper at that time who was Bone Crusher Brad, the original cattle dog skipper years ago, and he says, Oh hi skip, nice to meet you, I'm in your team. Uh Bone Crusher just grunted at him and walked away, and he came back two minutes later and he said, Hey, you're not a cattle dog, you're in the King Browns now.
SPEAKER_05That is so Bone Crusher Brad, isn't it? He's had one look at Toddy, walked over to Ryan and said, He's a King Brown, he's yours. Walked back to Todd and said, You're out. He's only been in there for eight minutes, not even that.
SPEAKER_03I must admit I was within the earshot when that story was being told, and uh some of those boys at that table were in absolute tears because they could see it all unfolding before them, and and Todd took it in great spirit and had a great laugh with it, and he's been a King Brown ever since. Uh so maybe it was meant to be, you know. Uh, but he took out the Stefan Wolfe Award for the man that everyone loved touring with the most. And when we look at that, it's voted on post-tour. The boys sent through. There's a lot of guys every year who get voted for, uh, and it's never a high margin that the winner wins by, and this year was no exception. But Trend said to Todd, he got the nod, uh, he won by a vote, and uh it was fantastic. And it's namely for the man that you go away with, and someone that you don't traditionally know maybe that much, or or you've not spent a lot of time with on tour, uh, that really brightens it up for you and makes it a great place to be. And Stefan Wolfe's named after a character who never actually toured. Three years running he tried uh and he never got there. He paid for his fees a couple of those years as well. Uh he was all set to go, but he was absolutely ravaged by cancer. He's probably I know Carnival talks about him as being probably the toughest guy he ever met, and uh it just ravaged him year after year and took more away from him. So uh a gutsy man, Stefan, and uh Stefan Wolfe Ward uh goes to, you know, it's always been highly sought after, and well done, Trencetta Todd. Super effort that. Rookie of the year, final thing, let's call it off. We only had two rookies last year, we've got a stack more this season coming. Uh but young Here Early Harry got over the top of airwind Geordie and uh here early Harry gets his first gong on tour. It was great to see the young man there can play golf, apparently, the boys are saying. Oh yeah, he can drive the ball out of sight. Uh, you know, he's off a very low handicap for his age. He's uh he's only about eighteen. Uh next year we have another 18-year-old coming in, I'm sure we'll get to. But uh well done, here early Harry shooter.
SPEAKER_05Pew Pew! Congratulations everyone. Well done. Now can we move on and get down to the good stuff, Run?
SPEAKER_03That was all fabulous stuff that we needed the recap, but now it's time to look at Beatle Ball 19. And first up, we've got our marquee draft tomorrow, player draft Thursday. How good is this? It's time to get it on.
SPEAKER_01But you gotta be woman to think this! And that's what you're thinking to say. You ain't where you want to be because of him. Eliminate you! You're better than that! Oh geez, that's gonna be coming big time, man.
SPEAKER_03We're better than that, boys. We're better than that. Oh, it's getting down to it. Beat the ball 19. It's coming in the player draft is here. It's make or break right now, right here, right now, one step at a time, one punch at a time, one round at a time, and the captains, they've got their work cut out. Or they do, I don't know if I could have done that any better than you just did then, Laurie. Yep, it's now hair-raising on the back of the neck time as we get down to these drafts and and looking at the way they finished last season, the teams, and what the skippers need to do. They've been bunkered down in their war rooms for weeks. Since the last tour finished a few weeks ago, they have been there plotting, deceiving, trying to work out how to put the best group of guys together to be sitting at that champions table, come beat a ball 19 cans. Chinese, smiles, and everybody else throwing in their 20 bucks for you to get fed and just sit there in the glory of it all. Now, we have a full and complete field of 48 starters. This means the five teams, three of them are going to have ten players, two will have nine. The Wranglers and the Crocs, they will have nine, they finish one two on the ladder, be the ball 18. So that means the other three cattle dogs, King, Browns, and shooters, they will all have an extra player. But as we know, the scoring across the season is averaged out. So each week you'll see the scores and they've already been averaged out. So those three teams will be divided by ten, so they'll have ten percent off essentially, give or take, you know what I mean. That's the mathematics of it. So all the points are accurate right the way through.
SPEAKER_02Next season is going to be a little bit different, but mate, is it not?
SPEAKER_03Yes, it will be because this year, as was announced on tour, there will be a sixth team coming in for the Beat the Ball 20 anniversary tour. So the 48 will all be divided equally between six teams, so there'll be sixteens of eight next year. So we forget about that for now. We're still at the five teams for this season, and there's a lot of changes that have got to be done, and we're just gonna have a brief look at where they fell down the teams last year and where the captains need to get it on and figure it out and get winning players in there.
SPEAKER_05I know Saving Pravit's got the bit between his teeth, and he is very, very confident with the men he's got up top, and we've already started some competitions run, so they're looking pretty good at the moment, the King Browns.
SPEAKER_03That's right. So we've got five rookies in there this season, so let's introduce these rookies and welcome them aboard. Number 108, Lion Tamer Lockheed, he comes in, and uh there's talk around and whispers that could he be the first ever rookie to go as a marquee player.
SPEAKER_04I know that it's something that Sage Hills Ham's been tossing up very strong to in the last two seasons. He's loathed to see any of his players go, but with the reverse draft this year, the first team that's ever been in place, it's a bit of a dead set lottery for all the skippers.
SPEAKER_03That's right, we need to touch on that. So, as we know, Carnival likes to put a wrinkle in each year into these drafts, and with the Beatleball 20, big year, massive season coming up, uh, they're gonna have a new draft system probably in place, one that may go forward uh in its own right uh into the following years. But this year he's thrown up a real curveball, and the skippers weren't entirely happy when they heard about how the draft was going down this year. They were very happy with the fact that they get to keep four marquees. Traditionally it's only been two for the last handful of years, but they get to double that this year and four. So that means they get a core of their team together going into this new season. Yeah, it's really important. You know, you've got to have that core and then hope you can get add the rest. And normally the skippers would add the rest and they'd they'd put in their pieces to complete the jigsaw for their teams, but not this year, because the players are getting to do it. Can you believe it? That's right, it's a reverse draft after the marquees. So the players then go into a draft, they random lottery. There's two draws in the random lottery, and the first random draw was to see what order the players would then spin in to find out where they will actually be picking uh in that order of 23 players that are looking for homes this year, uh, who were left out of the marquee draft or traded in or out. It's all very strategic from the skippers because they want glory for their team. They want to be sitting there, you know, just walking around knowing that they're the best come tour time. Uh and then that second random draw is for their players to pick their team that they're going into. So uh you can't have one group, one bloke just going top to toe on a on a ladder of players who missed the cart uh for the marquee draw. Uh they have to have the draw to find out what order they draw in, if you know what I'm saying.
SPEAKER_02My good mate, I am so confused. My head is spinning now. Thankfully you know what is happening.
SPEAKER_03Well Carnival knows what's happening, that's the main thing. So it's all been done and it's all been completely and utterly random, and that means this year's player draft is gonna be so much fun because these boys, for the first time ever, who have missed the cut, they get to choose what team they want to get into.
SPEAKER_04Do you think they'd all be staying with the same teams they've been in? You know, will it be a bit of an anti-climax, do you think? Not that I've had many of them in my team.
SPEAKER_03No, I think it's gonna I think there's gonna be a few that would uh like to switch teams uh and have looked from afar and thought, I wouldn't mind being part of that. And there will be plenty who will stay loyal to the cause of the team that they've been in for years. Uh and the other thing is it can't be taken personally out there. Anybody cannot be taken personally. Uh, this is the way it works each year. Most of the players have all been in multiple teams. We've been down that track, we've said that a million times. Yeah, we have. So we've got line tamer Lockheed, he's in. Uh, and as you said, there's whispers that he could go as a marquee player. I highly doubt it myself. Uh very rare for that to happen. Uh it's never happened before where a rookie's come in. Uh it's a he's number 108. 109, Big Top L. What can we tell? What do we know about Big Top L?
SPEAKER_04I tell you what, I know is that he can play golf a bit, and what he's about that socially, he's gonna be outstanding. No problems with that. He has a problem with canines, so if there's any dog pounds or anything uh uh around the traps close to the golf course, it may give him the jitters a bit, put him off if anyone's walking their puppy on the on the course. Uh he he will be fabulous across all efforts. Uh the tipping and punting uh we remains to be seen. He knows what he's doing, but is he a good judge or not? We're gonna find that out. But I think he'd be a pretty good pickup for any team going forward.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, and that's the same for Clarke Miyagi. Uh, you know, he's come in, he's been bought on by Wynne Danielson. And Clarky Miyagi, sneaky bloody good goal for this bloke, don't worry about that. Thank God that first year handicap of 15. Uh, you know, he that might even be too much for him still, but uh he is gonna be very good. They're very keen to get involved in it. It'll be interesting to see what team picks him up or or what team he picks if he doesn't go as a marquee. I doubt any of the rookies will go as marquees, but they will get their chance at picking who they would like to join, which is uh fascinating. First year rookies, they actually get a choice. They do, they do. Spin Smith Liam, he's an excellent gun cricketer, former gun cricketer. I don't know if he still is a gun cricketer. We might have to get a cricket game going. And uh, you know, we why not? They've had everything else in Madison Square Garden. We might as well put a set of stumps or roll out a rubbish spin down the end there and and uh throw down a few balls and see what he's got. But uh he is going to be very handy. Apparently, the punt. He's very good on the punt, apparently. Great judge of horse flesh, and uh loves to slap a you know a stallion on the rear now and then and just check it out, check out his fetlock. And uh so Spinsmith Liam, he could be a great pickup, number one one. So there's four of the five, and then we've got a bit of a uh random coming in here. We don't know a lot about him because the King Bounds don't give up too much, Ben, do they?
SPEAKER_05No, they don't, and we do that on purpose for obvious reasons. Uh nobody listens to us. Number one one two, one twelve, Corporal Crowbar. He has been invited in by General Buckley. Not a lot known about this runner at this play at the position of the year. But I will say this, if he's anything like the general, socially he is just going to be absolutely outstanding. Uh golfing, no idea. He could be off one plus one plus five, he could be off seventy-four. I don't know. Um, but we do know that he is going to be very good. It'll be interesting to see where he goes. He may be going head to head on the dance floor with General Buckleys, depending on what team he selects.
SPEAKER_03So that's it. They're the five rookies, and they will most likely be in the player draft. So may not hear a lot from them on the first day, which is the marquee draft. Looking at the marquee draft, boys. Let's start at the bottom. Wooden spooners for last year. That's the shooters. That's your mob, Laurie. Uh you've got to be disappointed with that. Yeah, it wasn't something we were hoping for, but as I said, there were there were excuses, reasons, if you will, like the you know, Ben's a bear, big Benny sat up there last year, that first draft, uh pitchforked in, wasn't knowing what to expect, thought it was all, you know, holding hands and Kumba yarring stuff. These are these guys are brutal. These captains are brutal. They want to win, they want victory. Number one, and they just ate poor old Benny. He did give what he did, but was give some of the boys an opportunity to become marquee players and stand up, you know. Uh so he had guys like Josh and DeSarge, who'd had a wonderful season the year before, but fell flat last year, especially in the tipping side of things. Then he had Major Mortar, who I thought wasn't too bad across the whole lot, and uh and his go-to man, Copy That Condo, finished second over all in the MVP points. And we know the MVP ladders are the ones that can really give you the quick insight into how these boys have gone, how your team's gone, and where you're looking to pick up players for next year. Alright, so looking at the shooters specifically last year, Copycat Condo finished uh the best for them. He was easily he was in the top two and top three, top two club champion, top three Tadoo trophy. Benzberry himself, good season, uh 11th and 8th across those two categories. Waxstar Jimmy and Barnes's boy Dave, the experienced fellas, they were the third and fourth best in that group, I think. Uh, and then from there it gets down a little bit. Here early, Harry. He can be excused, season one, he didn't get to go in those NRL tipping, Super Coach Fantasy, Profit Legend, or the AFL tipping. And that's a distinct disadvantage the rookies uh going to have coming into this because we're halfway through four competitions out of that twelve that go into the Tattoo Trophy. Uh any thoughts on this?
SPEAKER_04It's something that's just the way it is, you know. Uh first year rookies, generally you're supposed to just come in and enjoy the tour, have a look around, get a feel for things and see how you're going from there. It is a disadvantage. The skippers will look at that, but that won't prevent them from picking up some of these players. There's a stack more events to go over the season, and they would have already been doing their intel into who what players they want and what strengths they bring to their team.
SPEAKER_03Josh and DeSargent didn't have a good year at all last year, uh, considering he had almost a record breaking year and certainly his best last season. Grunton Grown and Rhinestone Graham come later Ronste, they were in the bottom half of that shooters' team last year. Looking at who Ben Zabair may take as his marquees this year, what do you think, Ben?
SPEAKER_05Is there anything standing out to you? Ah, far and away, you've got to keep copy that condo. You think he's earned his spot back, he has turned into one of the better players within the tour. So I think that's spot number one. From there, I d I don't know. Like these boys are all good fellas, lovely blokes, but my god, you need some winners in there, someone who's gonna be up there. I'd probably be inclined to take Josh and the sergeant again, give him another shot. He's just had a down season, everyone can have a down game. Um but looking at it, we don't really give a shit what the shooters do.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, that's all we do. And I I'm saying right now, he's got to change it up, Benny. Uh we can't be fucking around no more. He's got to pick some guys that are gonna get in there, balls out, balls to the wall, and they're gonna put in and they're gonna get their shooters team back up, you know, really challenging. Not only just yeah, to be good, to be the best. That's what we want. One step at a time, one punch at a time, one round at a time.
SPEAKER_04Who would you teach them, Mario, looking at that?
SPEAKER_02Well, I wouldn't give him any of the cattle dogs because he they don't deserve to go to a team as shit out as the shooters.
SPEAKER_03Well, them's fighting words, it's on now, Mario. Don't you worry about that. We don't wouldn't touch any of your cattle dogs on with a stick, mate. This is where it gets interesting, boys, because after they pick their marquees, all captains of the teams have to select their four marquees and themselves, of course, who they've already selected. I hope they've selected themselves, otherwise they haven't told me that they're not going to be captains. They certainly haven't told Carnival that either. So all five skippers are back, they will pick their four marquees, but then what whoever they've discarded go into the player pool, and then the player bull pool is once again presented back to the skippers, and they can then swap out a player from their marquee selections into the player pool and take one of them. The bonus for the player is he becomes instantly a marquee player for that team, and let's face it, you do alright, you're probably going to be a large and integral part of that team for a fair while in the beat the ball. Uh, but it's not a good place for a marquee to go uh unless a marquee may maybe on the quiet he asks the skipper to be put back into the player pool. I doubt that would happen either, but you never know. Yeah, that's the other thing. It depends who's in that player pool, because uh one thing I can tell you now, looking at it from a shooter's perspective, is that those Wranglers they can't keep them all. They've won the last two comps. Uh they don't really have a bad player amongst them. And I think Benny, he should have just, you know, absolutely dismantled them last year, but he's just too nice of loke. Uh this year I've seen an edge to Benny. I've seen that sparkle in his eye, and he's bit down on the chewing gum, on the mouth guard, and he's gonna I think he's gonna look to take some of those Wranglers. I don't think he'll be the only team looking to take them either. As you said, they can't keep them all. Looking at the Wranglers, Sandy, who who do you think that they may keep?
SPEAKER_04Sage or Sam, he's been absolutely split in half about what players to keep, whether he shows you know real urgency with keeping the blood laying in there, the boys that have played well for him, the boys that he's related to, or does he go with those guys he started with? Don't forget they were wooden spooners their first season three years ago. Uh and some of those boys he is incredibly loyal to, as he should be. So he's been torn, you know, as Natalie and Bruglier would say. And I I think he will keep Carnival. I think you'd be mad to not keep the MVP of last season uh from there, but it gets a bit dodgy. Highwire Will has been his lieutenant since day one. I can't see him cutting his brother off, you know. Oh, that would cause all sorts of issues, wouldn't it? It'd be fun to watch from the sidelines with some popcorn. So I imagine he'll keep a carnival and highwire Will. After that, it gets all sorts of ragged. You got Robo's pocket rocket, he's been good the last couple of seasons. Smitty Win, Water Tank, Matt, we're talking gun players. Golddigger Gaverby had one of his best seasons in history last year. How do you get rid of Gav? He's been there two of the three years. He has been in a tug of war with another team but over the last couple of seasons. So where will Gav go? Next to Win Nath, he had to miss the tour for the birth of his newborn, little Elizabeth. And I tell you what, he is chomping at the bit to get back into it. He was good across all comps, and he is a big mum's bum cup threat next season. Uh and then Warwick Farmfeller, like he'd been around since time itself, the walk, and he was very, very good as well. He picked it, they picked him up last in the draft last year. That shows the overall strength of this team. So good luck, Sagew. In the end, we've talked about it, we've discussed it, we've got all the names up on a board, but I'm not sure he's made his final decision yet.
SPEAKER_03Well that means straight up, looking at that, that we can probably pick up out of any of those guys you mentioned. If I was Benzaber, I'd probably be looking at to say you've got copy of that condo. He seems to be a standout. But from that point on, you know, Josh and the Sargent, maybe, yeah, yeah, yeah. We've talked about that. Uh, but I'd be looking to pick up some of them. If you could bring in uh a water tank, Matt, uh a next to win Nath, someone like that, or a couple of them, I'll tell you what, they're instantly strong. The shooters. Makes complete nutter sense to me, Laurie. Well done. Uh what what about the other teams? King Browns. Now, what are you you think they're gonna do, Ben? You've been in the war room with Ryan over the last couple of weeks. Uh do you see any changes, big changes?
SPEAKER_05I don't know that there's gonna be massive changes in the King Browns. The core of their team, the top half, has been very strong for years. You're looking at guys like Musk. Team Matt Tank Rider Jace Manscaper Nads, who don't forget last year was put on the outer and he performed admirably. Finished fourth overall for the King Browns in the MVP points. Mustard on top, tank rider Jay second. The big mover and shaker within that group, of course, is Frogman Grant Ribbett. He did ribbet apart. I tell you what, he is definitely one he won't want to lose. And holding four, you'd have to have them. But you've got the Mums Bum Cup champion there, for goodness sake, General Buckley's. Yeah, but the problem with the King Browns the whole time has been that their top half strong, but their bottom half is, you know, they're normally anchoring down all the comps, though.
SPEAKER_03Do you get rid of them? Is he gonna finally cut them loose? Well he doesn't have to make the choice this year, does he? That's a really interesting point, actually. You bring that up. So the King Browns, look, there's four or five there. You'd assume their marquees are gonna come out of that again. They're very strong. Uh they were very good across a lot of comps. Uh Muster Keen Mac, tank rider Jace were both in top ten MVPs last year, tattoo trophy events, things like that. Nadsey uh produced his best season in probably a decade. Frogman Grant, well, you've got the reigning punter of the year there, so you you'd be loath to let him go. But he may not have to choose this year private. Well, he doesn't have to choose. Well, his players decide to come back to the King Browns in that random player draw. That's the big thing. Maybe by default they end up with the strongest team they've had in years.
SPEAKER_04Well he doesn't have to hold the loyalty factor. He's a very loyal skipper, saving private, much to his own detriment as far as THC Premierships are concerned. But this season he is cut loose. He's not the one making decisions. It will all come down to where those King Brown players that go into the player draft have to make a selection and what number they are in that random draw. Because if once you get to the bottom of that random draw, most of the teams are going to be filled up. It's a lucky dip this year, as far as that goes for the players. So by default almost, they could end up with their strongest team ever, the King Browns. I know the Wranglers uh keeping one eye on them particularly. They've started the season very strongly. Once all the results go up after week one, you know, we have updated NRL Supercoach tipping, AFL tipping. Uh I think Profit Legend will be updated too. The origin series will be over. You'll see King Browns scattered all over the top half of those contests. So uh we are definitely wary of them.
SPEAKER_02Cattle dogs don't care, mate. We're not scared of nobody. Bring them at this, throw them at this. I think we're going to go for youth.
SPEAKER_03Alright, well, let's touch on that, Mario. Looking at the Cattle Dogs last season, and I tell you, it was a bit of an up and down there. Leber had his best year by a mile in a long time. Uh he was down for the count, but he got to study all that horse form for a while. And I'll tell you what, his uh triple B tipping was excellent and he was good across the board. Struggled a little bit with the golf, but he he he had had a couple of you know health issues with his knees, hips, things like that. So I'm sure he'll be back stronger ever next year, and he is a former Mum's Mum Cup champion. Dukes Row Daniel, is that the youth uh challenge that you're looking at? The the youth personnel that are coming through?
SPEAKER_02Oh, without doubt, mate. Dukes Rod Daniel, he could one day be a cattle dog skipper, I have no doubt. Two years in, mate, and he is already right up there. He finished third in the club champion, mate. The daddy's sensational. He finished 11th in the tattoo trophies, so he's uh very good. So MVP overall, he was second in the group. So you keep Dukes Rod Daniel. I think that one goes without saying. Lebba's not gonna pick his son. And then you look at the other players, Craig's the 80s dude. If he didn't have such an aversion and fear of technology, mate, he could be anything, this man. Um but whatever he doesn't know how to log in, uh he's they're going to be hampered a little bit in the tattoo trophy. Still finished 18th out of 46 last year, so he's still in that top half. Uh Borden Ben is gone, so there's an opportunity for someone. A devastating Dave. Well, we all know he's only one place off being a grand slam champion. So you gotta keep Dave, you think, on Trim Wiz, Mum's Mum Cup champion, all round good guy, and he puts fear into the other teams, just Chucky Norris, and that is our Wiz. Uh so there is some opportunities there to bring in some young guys.
SPEAKER_03Alright, so who are you gonna bring in? You're gonna look to rookies or are you gonna wait for other teams to off discard or offload players and pick them up?
SPEAKER_02Well, I think I someone like Hiruri Harry, you would like to bring in. Are you looking at Lion Tamalocky, a rookie, perhaps a big call to make him a marquee, but you might get him in the player draft, you know, very cheaply, which would be another good one. And we start to turn over some of the top end, and we get some of young blood in there, and that's the way we will be looking to go. And I think that is the way the Cattle Dogs need to go. Woof woof!
SPEAKER_03Alright, so that's them. I'll I'll bring up the Crocs right now, and Big Win Neal. Uh looking at what Mikabi McKenna may do as far as he marquee goes, it'll be hard to go past Big Win Neal. He's uh 12th overall in the club champion, uh, and he was their top player in the MVP last year, and he was one of the few Cattle Dog uh Crocs, sorry, to make uh a real impact. And he finished fifth or sixth overall, sixth overall he'd finished in the MVP. So he would assume Neil would be there. Roger that diva. Well, he's certainly not going to the Cattle Dogs.
SPEAKER_02He's not even allowed to look at the Cattle Dogs, mate. No way in the world.
SPEAKER_03Well, Roger that Diva, so he's down to four teams he could go to. I doubt whether Mickabee would let him go as a marquee, but stranger things have happened. He's cut him loose before, and we all know Mick, when it comes to blood versus victory, he will take victory every day of the week. So, Roger, you would probably give a 70-30 chance to coming back. Strength and Johnna. Now he had a season that was not one of his best for a guy that is normally up there in everything. He was a little bit off pace last year and he finished 13th overall in the MVPs. Is it time to maybe freshen that spot up and bring someone else in? Yeah, I would. I'd I'd cut Strength and Johnna, cut him straight out. I'd put him in with Nazi in the uh King Browns and watch him implode. They'd just blow up those those guys. So I I'd probably, you know, he might need a freshen up, he might need a new team.
SPEAKER_04Are you kidding, eh? You've got to leave him in there. Like Mick would be a bit mad to get rid of Strength and Johnny, you'd think he's been one of their gun players forever.
SPEAKER_03Alright, well how about this one? Josh would be next. He's up. He finished fourth last year overall in the MVPs and they had his best season by a mile. And for the Crocs. Uh will Mick bring him back as a marquee player? He's got four now, so he can fit him in there, slide him in. He is his son, mate, so he may well bring him back.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, but don't forget he cut Nick years ago. He said, Nick, see you later. Off you go. And uh then brought Nick to be back in. He did the same with Roger. Maybe that's part of his strategy. He sends him uh over to another team for a year. In Roger's case it was to completely sabotage uh the cattle dogs, and we all know the outcome of that. Uh with Nick, but it was maybe go over there and see if the grass is really greener, and he he didn't then he brought Nick back and he finished third in the Mums Bum Cup. He won't suffer hugely as far as losing handicap. So he'll be there again you'd imagine next year, and with twelve more months of secret lessons under his cap, he uh would probably be in I'd be bringing Nickaby back before Joshabit.
SPEAKER_03Well that's gonna be one of the dilemmas. Why not bring them both back? He could bring Roger, he could bring Neil or Strength. No, he can't. He can't bring five of them back. So yeah, he's gonna have to make a call. There's gonna be crocs, good crocs go out, because you've got Win Danielson, overnight leader in the golf last year. He went pretty good in the comps across the year, you know, middle of the road, but uh that's better than down the bottom. He's lost stiffler. Now he's been lost to Adelaide, you know, uh poor bugger. He's stuck over there and he he won't be returning this year. Ericabi arrives. Well, Eric's gone in every comp and uh he's probably results belied just how well he went. He won his first one of his first ever events last year in uh the Tadoo Trophy. Uh so he's won, definitely one that you probably think twice about cutting. So the I know that the Crocs uh they've been deep in uh thought and negotiations, uh and Mikabee has got a fair bit in front of him. Potentially before the marquee draft boys, is there anyone that you think we may have overlooked?
SPEAKER_05Uh Ranstein Graham, he was pretty good for the shooters last year. He's a Grand Slam champion, and his name hasn't even been brought up to be a marquee. I think the shooters should slot him into one of those spots and keep him nice and tat and handy up there. Yeah, well he's definitely one of the names we've looked at. Gun player.
SPEAKER_02Gideous stuff, mate, he's won. He's starting to find form again. So I'd be thinking Gideus probably needs to uh be looked at as their marquee for the cattle dogs. Although Leber, he's not saying too much on this to me even, but I'll give him a foot massage later and he might tell me lots of stuff you never know.
SPEAKER_03I think in the Crocs, the one that's been overlooked, uh, without doubt, is Wynne Danielson. I think he is the one that they need to strongly consider keeping. Uh you want to keep that youth coming through, and you these boys have all learnt the ropes and they're all starting to get go good. So I'd think him, is there anyone from the Wranglers that you think's a must keep that maybe not at the moment, Sandy? Yeah, no, it's a dead set toss a coin.
SPEAKER_04I mean Waddock Farmfellow was picked up last last year. Sage or Sam the skipper's got raw ball next to Winneet. Heyway, we'll go dig of go. He's got a wealth of riches there. What will me bring the Wranglers undone, which terrifies us, is the player draft. He's like, who's coming in?
SPEAKER_05What about the rookies though? I look at uh Metro Matt, for instance, he's no rookie. We'll get to the rookies in a moment. I've just saved a shot, I've just seen the name there, and I thought, my goodness, Metro Matt, he's gonna win the Mums Bum Cup one day. I don't think there's much doubt. So you the captains have to get the four or five things right, don't they? Erwin Geordie, he had a not a terrible first season, he knows how to go now. I I think he might be one on the improved too. Would I put him in as a marquee? Most likely not, but you know, stranger things have happened.
SPEAKER_03Well, you raised a pertinent point there. There are things that the captains are looking for because you've you've got to we learnt this last year. Now the shooters went in and won the Mums Bum Cup weekend easily. Uh they had a great strong golfing team, but the problem was they're a thousand points behind going into the golf. You've got to find that nice blend of guys who are good at the tipping, good at the punting, uh guys who go in all the Tattoo trophy comps, and and then you want your golfers at the end. So there's no point stacking them with one, not the other. Uh the Wranglers only went into that last Mum's Bum Cup weekend, needing one or two to make the cut, to just make sure it was locked down and done the premiership. And they did that with Sideshow Sam, who was in the final four, uh, capitulated, had a tough day in that second day, but it didn't matter. He'd done what he needed to do was make the cut. Carnival sleeped in there late into the cut as well. So once they had those two in, uh they knew that they were pretty good. They were going to win it. Uh the shooters were used as an example. You could probably put the King Browns in that boat. Uh they're just not doing enough through the season to get to the Mums Bum Cup and challenge hard. Uh they've got a great golf team, the King Browns been, and uh they will certainly be there. They really will.
SPEAKER_05Mustard Keen Mapp barely missed the cut this year. You've got Tankerada Jace, who's been in the top half dozen the last two years. Progman Grant, we've all seen him hit a ball. I'll tell you what, the ball doesn't come back. Uh it's that simple. If it gets a chance, it jumps the fence and runs home. It just gets away from him. He just flogs it. Uh Manscaper Nads, well, you've got a champion there, but he's also shown in the comps this year. He's very good through the season. Uh, and I'm looking at him. They need a bit more though from those bottom four or five in that group. Um, they need them to produce something, not anchor the tables.
SPEAKER_03All right, well, I think that just about wraps it up. The preview for the marquee draft. It's going to be sensational, fellas. We can't wait to get it going. Madison Square Garden will be jumping tomorrow. Uh, we'll all be up nice and early, rising and shining. I believe all the teams have got corporate boxes for the event as well. Is that correct, Laurie? Yeah, did you know that the change rooms in here are circular? I didn't realise that. It took me ages to get out of one earlier. I thought it was the bathroom, but it was actually a change room. And I just kept going round and round and round and I finally got out. But yeah, bug of that. Corporate boxes, yeah, they've got them all. The skippers will be up there waiting. Uh, they're all decked out. We've got a massive crowd. They're already lining up. Some of them are sleeping out overnight. I did see George out there earlier and he was uh did have his knapsack, but there was a couple of guys, gay guys, giving him a hard time. Uh but we'll wonder we'll get him in there. He'll be one. Uh there'll be celebrities wall to wall everywhere. The rookies are having a sleepless night, no doubt, Sandy.
SPEAKER_04Uh the rookies, eh, yeah. Well, what are they gonna do? This is the first team in there in the beat the ball. It's a global event. Golf's very unofficial, fifth major. Once again, nobody took up the uh invates last year to tour. You know, all those PGA players, they might wear some of those jackets until you've got a mum's bum cup jacket. Seriously, you're not even in the fate, are you? Uh they will have a sleepless night or two now because n once this is done over the next two days, player draft, marquee draft, those two things, you have the comps starting on Saturday.
SPEAKER_03That's right, we do. We have the competition starting Saturday. The season kicks off the cart this coming Saturday, so I'm sure there'll be heaps of stuff out. But for now, we need to go and uh maybe have a quiet drink in a corner of a nice New York bar somewhere, fellas, and prepare ourselves for what's going to be a massive two days.
SPEAKER_05Ah can't wait, can I wait? This is going to be sensational.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, me either, mate. It's wonderful and it's gonna be nice to hop into someone else's too, but and he, although they're all yellow, it's all a bit boring, you know.
SPEAKER_04It might be, but I've got to go and see a couple of twins.
SPEAKER_02I've heard about those twins, mate. That can I come with you?
SPEAKER_04I know you can't.
SPEAKER_03Alright, everybody, thank you for listening, Beataballers. Well done to all those in Beat a Ball 18. You're our champions for the year, you're on the champion boards, you're on our websites, you're locked in history as one of the legends of the tour. Uh and for everyone else, it's time to get a good sleep because we got Beat a Ball 19 coming up, and with those two drafts into the season start, it's gonna be a big week.
