Hello, hello, hello, gentlemen out there in Be the Ball Land, and welcome to your official first podcast of the season. Be the Ball 19 is here. Last week we had a massive week, obviously, with the marquee drafts, player drafts. Everybody is in their team, locked away. We had the wedding, of course, that went on behind us. We got pushed out those doors pretty damn quick, didn't we, fellas? Yeah, too, right? We did Tay Tay and Kelsey. They were up there ready to get married for a secret wedding. There was an awful lot of shit about it out there in the press, wasn't it? Uh yeah, secret my ass.
SPEAKER_02I have to agree with you there, Lori. It uh was all over the shop. Uh T, I was front row trying to get her attention as she was moving in, and uh she came over and I thought for a moment, yeah, she I'm irresistible to this lady. Uh and she leaned over and sniffed and then slapped my face and kept walking. I haven't watched it since, so it's been a a great few days.
SPEAKER_01Oh, it's good to be back on Terraferma back in Australia, I gotta say, and uh I'm excited for the new season, week one, run and done, as you like to say. And uh it's looking okay, but you can't read too much into it at the moment, can you?
SPEAKER_04No, it's the first week. You can't really read much into any of these results until the first Tattoo Trophy event is underway and done. And that's the British Open, these days known as the Open, but as we know, I'm a bit of a traditionalist, so uh I still call it the British Open. Nobody uh no bastard knows what I'm talking about, of course, but I do, that's the main thing.
SPEAKER_03Yep, well that is the first one, and you're dead right, Mario. And you are too Ben, because we can't read a lot into these results, but it is nice to give a bit of recognition. And above all, today's podcast, uh, is really about teaching the rookies what's going on. And as a refresher, reminder, or maybe even teaching some of those boys who have been in the tour for a few years, we're gonna have a look over the results for week one uh and we'll also give a few bits of information that are gonna help people out this year as they play their way through the season, leading, of course, right up until that long weekend in June next year, where we will be in downtown beautiful cans, battling it out for that THC Premiership and Mum's Bum Cup trophy.
SPEAKER_04We won't be dilly-dallying around with these results each week, will we, Ron? I've got places to go, people to see. I'm a very busy man, as you well know.
SPEAKER_03Well, I do know that retirement is uh treating you savagely. Anyway, no, we won't won't be mucking around, fart assing around, or any of the above, because uh we'll just get these out each week. They are a really useful tool, boys, to keep on top of all the information that's coming. And this very first week's one we're going to do in tandem with the weekly result pack, so that if you actually open that up on the website or through your phone through the link, uh and you'll be able to follow along with what we're talking about. Especially helpful for the rookies.
SPEAKER_01And they need all the help they can get, mate, judging by some of those first week results.
SPEAKER_03Well, maybe, maybe not. There's gonna be some guns in there, I have no doubt about it. So let's get started, shall we?
SPEAKER_00Be the ball weekly results packs.

SPEAKER_04Ah guess no, it's the first week. You can't really read much into any of these results until the first Tattoo Trophy event is underway and done, and that's the British Open, these days known as the Open, but as we know I'm a bit of a traditionalist, so uh I I still call it the British Open. SPEAKER_03Yep, well that is the first one, and you're dead right, Mario, and you are too, Ben, because we can't read a lot into these results, but it is nice to give a bit of recognition, and above all, today's pod park podcast, oh Podbastard, uh, is really about teaching the rookies what's going on, and as a refresher, reminder, or maybe even teaching some of those boys who have been in the tour for a few years, we're gonna have a look over the results for week one, uh, and we'll also give a few bits of information that are gonna help people out this year as they play their way through the season, leading, of course, right up until that long weekend in June next year, where we will be in downtown beautiful cans battling it out for that THC Premiership and Mum's Bum Cup trophy.

Especially helpful for the rookies.
SPEAKER_01And they need all the help they can get, mate, judging by some of those first week of results.
SPEAKER_03Well, maybe, maybe not. There's gonna be some guns in there, I have no doubt about it. So let's get started, shall we?
SPEAKER_00Be the ball weekly results packs.
SPEAKER_02I see Bruce is working voiceover go to the boon as well, isn't he?
SPEAKER_01He's not missing any of us, mate. We're all getting up at Dawn's crack and burning midnight oil, mate. Uh you know, they were a great Bram Bam once, but uh we gotta do what we gotta do, I suppose.
SPEAKER_03Okay, the weekly results packs will be done every week, uh, unless something happens or blows up or there's something carnival is uh away or something like that, which is rare. But anyway, so every week, boys, after the weekend's play, uh the result pack is normally posted on a Tuesday. You can go to the link that is on the be the balltour.com website and you just click on the image that says weekly results, and you will be able to bring up the pack straight away. It will give you all of the results in all of the comps in one happy place. You can do it through your phone, of course, as well. We'll post a link each week and uh that way you can just keep on top of how you are going and how your team is going. Yeah, it's a great tool, and it gets bigger and bigger through the year as each of the competitions are finished as far as the Tattoo Trophy, the winners are put in there, the points go into the Tattoo Trophy tables, which are in that weekly results pack of course, uh, and you just play along at home actually. It's obviously faster to talk about results and upcoming news and things that are on and all things BTB than it is to write everything down. Uh so it's really essential, boys, that you probably give this a listen each week at your own leisure. You can do it while you're in bed, you can do it while you're pottering around the yard, driving home from work, you can do it any way you like.
SPEAKER_04I imagine this will cut out a lot of the duel stuff for Carnival, you know, where he's always going to be repeating himself through three or four different means as far as technology is concerned. Uh, if we can narrow it all down and tighten it up a bit, uh should be much better for all involved.
SPEAKER_03I agree very much so with that. Let's get over to our first competition for the year and see what the leaderboard says, week one.
SPEAKER_00Triple B's tipping. Big basket bed.
SPEAKER_03Okay, the season kicked off with three meetings as per usual. They will generally be, boys, for those that don't know, in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane or Queensland slash put it in there wherever you like. So this weekend we had Rose Hill, we had Flemington in Melbourne and Sunshine Coast. And at the end of each season, at the start of each season and a month in January, double points go to these Brisbane meetings. And we're in the middle of winter racing, so anything who knows anything about racing knows this. What, Lori? Uh winter horses, donkeys and desperates. That's what it's all about in winter. Good luck. And there were Ruffy's galore over the weekend, and I tell you what, gotta be one of the biggest results ever to be leading the triple B's after one week of competition. My goodness.
SPEAKER_02Carnival actually let it slip that this is one of the top six or seven scores in nineteen years history of triple B tipping within the beat the ball. Amazing, unbelievable, to do it week one. Drop the bomb.
SPEAKER_03He sure did, and it takes great I take great delight in announcing that our number one player for Triple B's and he's on top of all the ladders because it's week one everybody of the season, so that means the weekly, monthly, and yearly leaderboard will all be the same score. Please don't harass me or send any messages to Carnival. Uh just bear with us, okay? So week one they're all the same scores, and that man was none other than number eighty one Joshaby next.
SPEAKER_04You're kidding. My goodness, he wouldn't know one end of the horse from the other, Joshaby. How the hell did he tip that? Who did he win? My goodness.
SPEAKER_03Well he won and won in a canter. Get this for his first week score. 223.7 points. 223 bloody points. My goodness, the man was simply on fire. And how about this? He did all the damage, of course, in double points land, and that's where you want to be. Rookies, listen up. Double points, that's the meeting you want to score in, okay? Because that's where you get a gap on the field. You've got a bit of an edge. So you really want to pick well in those meetings in particular. Big fields, the end of the winter carnival up there in Brisbane, and uh we're running down a long, long straight at Sunshine Coast for anyone who follows the racing, and believe me, your horse is never home until it's home. And uh Joshuaby, get this.
SPEAKER_01Oh, you want me to talk now, mate?
SPEAKER_03When I point at you, Mario, you talk.
SPEAKER_01Okay, mate. So Joshaby, he picked a horse called Naturally Lit, which paid $41.2094, mate. $50 to $1 nilly. My goodness.
SPEAKER_04That would be what Joshaby normally is, isn't he? Naturally lit.
SPEAKER_02He doesn't mean the party you want to drink, the big fella, and he would have been chugging, I tell you, after that thing got up.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but more but wait, mate, there is more. How about this? The very next race, he's picked, this is in Sanchon Coast Race 5.
SPEAKER_03Very good, Mario.
SPEAKER_01He's picked number 12, maximum output, which got beat by the hair of his nails, mate, and there's not a lot of hair on a horse's nose. And he it paid $35.70 a place. It was 250 to 1, mate. Imagine if I had a got up. We would have had the highest score in 19 years. My goodness.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, he's just absolutely smashed it out of the park. So those two races alone, what's that? Uh 40, 60, 90. There's 180 odd points right there. So well done to Joshua, you arsey bastard. You are leading. Uh it's a great effort. And he actually picked them too. So I must be picking them on names, not form, but uh well done, Joshaby. Yeah, it was a mighty effort. So he's gone straight to the top of the pops as far as the big baskets are concerned, week one. How about this? This Quinella would have paid anything, thousands, if you had said before the races kicked off Saturday morning. Joshaby next was first. Second was Airwin Geordie. My goodness, 125.3. Yeah, he's had about 75 starts for no placings, no wins, uh, nothing. He's absolutely shown no form at all, Airwin Geordie. But a change of stable has been all that he needed.
SPEAKER_02Hey, once you come over to the Wranglers, you tend to feign form and feign form quickly. Geordie, the bulk of his points came from that horse, Sam Horse, $38 apiece or whatever it was, maximum output. And Erwin Geordie, straight up maximum output for the Wranglers. Well done, Geordie. 125.3.
SPEAKER_03And in third place for the weekend was a guy who finished last season on fire. And uh last season was his best year, without doubt, in beat the ball four tipping. He never really gave it that much of a go for probably his first 15 years. Um but Manscaper Nads, 109.4. He finished in third, just a nose or a lip or whatever part of the horse's body you wished to put on it. Uh Win Danielson, 108.6 in fourth. And Wes, he was the only other one to top the ton, uh, showing some great early season form there for the Cattle Dogs, 107.3. There you have it. So there's your top five right across the board. Weekly, monthly, and yearly. Well done to all those fellas. As far as the uh guys who didn't do as well as they would have liked straight up, well, Ericaby arrives, he stayed in the stalls, he finished with 24.4 points for the week. Uh Josh and the Sergeant, 31. He's uh run of poor form, continues, uh, and Captain Benzaber will be looking at uh this shooter and saying, Come on, we need a little bit more, Josh and Nickabee Rising, stablemate to Josh will be next, uh, 31 point Q. Uh so not great from those boys, but the good news is, yeah, we've got it. It's only week one. Uh there's nine weeks before anyone gets eliminated. That's right. So the bottom four going into oh, after week one, and you've got another eight weeks to get yourself. You only got to get yourself above four others, you four. Frogman Grant, Nickabee Rising, Josh and DeSarge and Ericaby Arrives, all had slow starts. Uh, Girias stuff, Crazy 80s dude weren't much better, which were a little bit of a surprise there. One former champ, oh, both former Triple B tipping champions. Uh key tip, do we have any key tips for the rookies?
SPEAKER_02Uh get your tips in, boys, even if it's just a default number or a s which means backup for those of you who uh find that word a little bit daunting. Uh pick a number so that if you miss your Asses on a weekend or you don't want to put horse tips in because you really couldn't give a rats, that's fine. But by putting a number in, you're gonna pick up points for yourself and your team. So it would make that a priority for those that haven't.
SPEAKER_03Yes, Carnival's asked me to pass on that all the uh default numbers from last year for the players returning will carry over unless you have told him something different for this season. Quick look at the teams, how are they looking, Ben, after this? This is just for the Triple B tipping comp.
SPEAKER_04However, the Wranglers are up on top again. Mate goodness, 846 after week one, Cattledog 717, Croc 711, King Brown 651, and Shooters 603.
SPEAKER_03Alright, so when we're collating these scores, boys, remember that you might have boys that do well at the top, but the entire team's got to do well because all these points count. So, for instance, the lowest croc, uh lowest Wrangler, sorry, was Tank uh Tank Rodder, Joe's. No, he's not a Wrangler yet, we'd love to have him. Uh Lion Tamer Lockheed, 42.1. But he is uh a good dozen places above the last place. So looking at that ladder from week one, there's a lot of cattle dogs down the bottom. King Browns, there's a lot of in the second half of the field, uh, and the Wranglers, their points accumulated for this event between their team gives them the lead after week one. But it's very, very volatile for these early weeks of the season.
SPEAKER_02And me just add one thing quickly, if you are okay with that, Ron. Yep, go ahead, Sandy. Looking when you're looking at page one for these Triple B resorts, you'll see in the far right the leaderboard for the year, folks. All you boys out there in Beat the Ball land. So in the far right, THC, it's in the a lovely aqua blue colour, actually. And you'll see from top to toe there how many points you get uh as far as the THC Premiership. So that's your contribution. So when you see that this is a group one event, so there's four group one events here as far as beat the ball are concerned. That's Triple B's, Panter of the Year, uh also Mums Bum Cup champion, and who is a footbig man of the year there? Is it how could I forget that one? One of the most important, if not the most. So those are your points. So you'll see right at the bottom of that table, group one event so multiplier of three in play. So this means the points that would you normally get for that ladder have been multiplied by three. That's how you get to 144. So 48 times two is 96 plus another 48 gets you to 144. That's how come the leader is on those points and it goes right through. Yeah, jeez, do we have to know that? Well, I think it's pretty important.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, me too, mate, because you want the teams to win, so the boys have to understand how this all works. So that's why those points are so big. It's a group. One event.
SPEAKER_03Thank you, Mario.
SPEAKER_01Be the ball DALEMS.
SPEAKER_03Okay, picking up where Sandy just left off. So the DALE EMS is an offshoot of the Triple B's tipping. Uh and as its name suggests, it's run along the lines of the old DALE M Rugby League 3-2-1. So if you finish as the top tip start each week, you'll get three points. Two points for second, one for third, they will be split if there are ties. As we go through, you'll see it all unfold. As a group two event, it's double the points. So it's not so it's not highly as prized as, say, the group one events, but it is worth something and it's good. And so after week one of the DALE Ms. Turn the page, by the way, if you're following this on the website or through the result pack, uh, you'll see that because Josh Aby won last week, he got three points. Uh, two points for Airwind Naughty, so he got the silver points, and and one point bronze manscaper nads. So they obviously lead the DALE M's right now, 3-2-1. You'll see the Beaver Ball monthly medal winners. So each month the winner of that gets 20 bucks off their fees in Beat the Ball 20. The names will appear in there and their teams as we go along. Uh, and looking to the far right on this page, you will see that King Browns they are leading the overall for the month so far on 506 points. Uh Crocs 464, 462. Now, when you're looking at these teams' points, it's important to remember that at the end for the THC Premiership, there are three teams with an extra player this year. Now, that can be advantageous or disadvantageous depending on how your team goes. Well, it should be a bonus because you've got an extra player who's actually competing in all these competitions.
SPEAKER_04So, but the downside is if that player does sweep Jack, well he gets zero points and he actually drags down the average total for the team, doesn't it? And those three teams, of course, are the Cattledogs, King Browns, and the Shooters. I knew it'd come to me eventually. And they're the guys who've got the extra one. So in the THC part of the game, that's what happened.
SPEAKER_03The reason I bring this up is that you would naturally think that the Crocs would be on top because Josh would be next, won the week. But the King Browns, when you look at it, they're on top at the moment in the Dallyams after week one. That's because of their extra player. So the 10% of points deduction off those three teams for having the extra player doesn't actually take place till we get to the THC scores. So you will see these scores through the year. Uh and if it they look a little skewy, that's why. Because the 10% off isn't taken to the end because it's taken off the combined total of all the players in all the comps in each team. Very confusing, I imagine, but stick with me, you'll get it. And that big grid on the right, every gun, you can see right now that there's already the three names in it. Josh will be next. We went through it. So he's got a green square, he's it's highlighted green. So the top point scorer for one week for the year will be highlighted in green. And to be honest, 223.7. It'll be bloody hard to beat. I don't know if the green dot will move from that square at all. Alright, are there any tips on how to play this best? Well, it's simple, go. We're gonna end the tipping in the triple B's. That's right. I will give you an insight into this, boys. You get a hundred, you're normally in the running for points three, two, or one. Some weeks it's less, depending on where all the tips go. If they all go faves and a lot of them get up in their short prices. Uh, other weeks it's much more. But uh around that hundred mark is generally a good guide for you to realise or know whether you are in the money as far as Dell EM points are concerned.
SPEAKER_00Punter of the year party.
SPEAKER_05Ding, turn the page!
SPEAKER_03If you are following along along with the weekly result pack at the moment, and I imagine some of the rookies may well be, if not others as as well. It's not a bad idea, actually. But as we look at this page, boys, this is the punter of the year stable. We had our punters up for the uh and stable war, sorry. We had our punters up for the weekend, our first ten, two per stables. Uh to explain the stables, this is what happened after the draft was completed. So each captain then put his team into two stables uh and of five if you're of ten players and a five and a four for those two teams with nine players. Uh in this stable, you will bet in turn. So it we try to work it out so that you're getting a punt every four or five weeks, six weeks through the year. By the end of the year, you'd normally had around a dozen punts, uh, something like that, uh, sometimes a little less. Uh, but you don't really care if that's the case because someone in your team is doing well and you're avoiding those dreaded vests. You do not want to wear those vests. My goodness. No fun. I'm watching the Craig's Carnival Sideshow, Sam, and a few of the other boys up there, Gatherby this year wearing them. Uh, they've done it multiple times, and it's not much fun for that first 45-50 minutes, especially on a Saturday morning when everyone's a bit crook and you've got to run everyone's beers. Alright, so how did the punt go on the weekend? We'll start with the shooters, Laurie. You want to lead us off? Yeah, well, we had two punters up in the saddle, and uh one of them, of course, was the skipper, Benzabier, leading off, like all good leaders should. And he had a punt on the races. He had 10 bucks a win on race nine number four, midnight dynamite, and that blew up in his face because uh did nothing. And his second punt for the weekend was uh Sunshine Coast, race nine number 11, North Pole. That's where he should send himself after backing those two donkeys. Just to quickly elaborate, boys, so every punter to start with gets a twenty buck bet. Now, if you double your return, uh double your stake, sorry, with a return, as one the next punter up did, uh, you will be up again the next week with an extra twenty bucks. So he goes up to twenty to forty to sixty and so on and so on. The better you punt, the more you get chances to accumulate even more, and dollars become points, uh, etc. etc. Ball pretty simple, past that point. But if you lose like many of these punters did this first week, you go back to a base bet of ten dollars. Now the reason we do this is over the 19 years of the beat the ball, we haven't punted that well, have we, Ron?
SPEAKER_02No, we haven't. Uh so it works out that their budget to lose $2,000 a year on the punt. Now before anyone gets their short and curlies all in a tangle, the bottom line is this work it out, two thousand divided by forty-eight people divided by forty-eight weeks. It works out to be about eighty cents a week, so you lose that much down the back of the couch. It's been said many times before, so do not panic about this. And one day, who knows, somebody may pull their finger out and get a huge win for us.
SPEAKER_04Well, we've been close a couple of times over the years. We nearly won a stack on a cox plate years ago and and in beat the ball two, I remember we were just short of collecting somewhere under seventeen thousand, just under. So it's all worth the the gamble.
SPEAKER_01And this year we lost uh sorry, beat the ball eighteen, we lost we lost about eighteen hundred bucks, mate, but in a weird way we that made us two hundred bucks for the year, you know what I mean?
SPEAKER_03Well that's the way it works out. So these boys, so this Benny, we'll go back as an example, Ben Zabear. His next bet when it rolls around to him again, he will only have ten bucks to play with, so he has to uh come up with something a little special to get that happening.
SPEAKER_02And we should also mention it's maximum two bets, everybody. That's it, no more than two, and your bets must be placed by midnight on a Sunday, and they must be finished by midnight on a Monday at the least. But if you can, look, there's a million things to bet on. Can you try and get them done in the weekend?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and also try and get them through the carnival, you know, give him a little bit of time. There have been boys over the years who have sent through text saying, Can you get on in the next six seconds for me? It's like you know he's He does have a life too.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, not much of one, but it's something. Ain't that the truth?
SPEAKER_03Alright, so let's go. Look at your second punter up. And this one's a bit better news for you, I believe, Laurie. Yeah, it was a shooter's cough to a great start with the key import. The number one marquee draft pick for the season, Smitty win. And he stood up and he was counted. What a great bet from him.
SPEAKER_01He actually had two bets.
SPEAKER_03His second bet was an NRL multi. Janny Tom try scorer went bell balls up very early, so forget that one. But the winning bet was Sydney race three, number one, Omar Long. I believe he was looking at himself in the mirror when he picked that one. Number four in race five. So he had the Omer Long to win at 215 into race five. Number four. Hello, Captain. I think he was still in front of the mirror when he uh picked that one. 185 into big red tequila. And that's uh what he had to commemorate the occasion. Uh straight after it, a big shot of big red tequila at 155. So he collected 62 bucks, which means obviously he doubled his twenty bucks stake. So he is back in the saddle for the shooters. Pew pew next week with 40 bucks to play with. Yep, it was nice to get off to a good start with at least one collect there, but it was all pretty much downhill from there. Over to you now uh for the Cattle Dogs, Mario. How did your punters go for the week?
SPEAKER_01Not too good, mate. We led off with London O'Lebard and Craig's the 80s, dude, and uh did not matter at all, mate. He backed the horse court Bengal Diamond at the Sunshine Coast, $10 a win on that, and uh there was no shine on that tiger. Believe it, mate, uh, just like the West Tigers on the weekend, woeful. And his second bet he had uh anytime through scorers, Jareen Bulla, Toriel Slan, and Adam Duwahi, and uh again the Tigers really screwed him up, and Leber, he's going back to the end of the line. See you again in a month, Skipper. Still love you, Lebba.
SPEAKER_04And I suppose Craig's the 80s dude got off to the same shenanigans as always with his three legged dollar ten a place into each other bets, just trying to double his stake.
SPEAKER_01Well, mate, he's obviously not bidding with much confidence at the moment because he took only two legs this time. Can you believe it?
SPEAKER_02Stanton Jorna would have been a popalyptic or however that word goes. It's amazing if you can see it.
SPEAKER_01Craig's he took uh racer number four on the Sunshine Calls, Ten Gun Tommy, who won the race, mind you, but he paid a dollar thirty, so really uh gutsy stuff there from Craigsey, and he only needed Jeringong in race eight, who's one of their fan favourites for the day, to run a place, and he would have collected oh my goodness, maybe even twenty dollars. Uh Jeringong ran forth, so Craigsey has stopped another train, another certainty, and maybe he it is time for him to look at uh maybe changing up the way he does things because boy god he has not worked for one Iota this last year and a half, mate.
SPEAKER_03I think he was a punter of the year a couple of years ago, and I don't know, but it uh he's not moving with the times, that's for sure.
SPEAKER_02You've only got to look at Craigsy's head. You know, he doesn't like change at all, the big man, but uh he's back to the end of the lane for them as well.
SPEAKER_03Alright, let's keep moving it right along. I'll do the Crocs if you like. Uh so we had our two punters up, Mikkelby McKenna, the skipper, extraordinaire, leading off, of course. Uh he also backed Jerengong, uh, which was the horse that let everyone down on the weekend, uh, nearly as much as the Tigers. He also had another wee bet later in the weekend, uh, which was a multi, and the Sea Eagles let him down, I believe, up front for that one. And the other punter up was Strength and Jonah, and he took a two-legg multi himself, so maybe he and Craig's the 80s dude are in cahoots.
SPEAKER_01It's a bit of a love story, that one, isn't it, those two? It's uh they pretend like they don't like each other, but deep down I think they're in love, mate.
SPEAKER_04I'm not so sure. I saw Strength and Jonathan giving a lot of attention to Manscaped and Naz on tour, so uh maybe Craig's uh the jilted one at the moment. I don't know. A love triangle, mate.
SPEAKER_03Strength and Jonat started off pretty well, uh oh sorry, didn't start off well, finished well, uh which is normally his way apparently of doing things. Uh Al Duca, which was one of the big favourites of the day down there in Flemington. Uh he didn't put his dukes up at all and uh he failed, so he was out early. But the second leg he was saving till Sunday, and I believed uh it's named after uh Blokie Nose, uh my mum's toy boy, and uh I don't know how well he knows him or whether they get on.
SPEAKER_01Maybe it's Clagsy, mate.
SPEAKER_03Or Nad's, it could be either of them, who knows? Well, my mum's toy boy did salute at the the juicy odds of uh two dollars ten because I think I finished at around a dollar forty, but uh no good for either of them, back to the end of the line. Over to you, Ben. Those King Browns, they were up in the saddle, how'd they go?
SPEAKER_04Saving Pravitt jumps straight in with a World Cup soccer bet on the uh Socceroos, uh, which did no good, so there was three or four legs to that, and as we know, uh the Socceroos are now out gone ski, so so's Ryan, back to the end of the line, but he's used to that really when it comes to punter of the year. Uh he does normally punts well in May, but the other 11 months or 10 months uh cause him a few heartaches and issues. Uh other one up was Tank Radder Jason, just another one that was on Jeringong. No wonder the poor bastard didn't do any good, Jeringong. He had three or four jockeys, and uh believe me, some of these boys uh they don't weigh anywhere near 60 kilos.
SPEAKER_03Well, no, they don't, so uh the we what we will say about this for the rookies here is a bit of an insight for you for the King Browns. They tend to have a rule that you can't back anything under five to one, which isn't a bad rule. They had a big winner a few years ago when uh Trendset of Todd, he uh nailed a huge win early in the year and and carried it pretty much all the way through. Uh they're all hit or miss, and they've got a carryover champion with Frogman Grant. Uh he's also uh had a big bet last year. So they attack it a little bit differently to others. I know there's two stables that attack it just trying to not lose too much money and try and stay next to that break even zero mark right through the year. Alright, uh Wranglers, Sandy, how did they go?
SPEAKER_02Satraw Sam was straight up in the saddle for the Wranglers, as all the skippers were, leading off for their team. He thought the Sea Eagles were a good thing in the NRL, minus eight and a half. Tommy Turbo would have scored a couple of threes. Well, that was a long way off the mark because those Paramata eels absolutely did a job on them. So he did no good, and Craig's Carnival, he had a couple of his each way uh parlies for want of a better word, they call the Yankees or something else. Uh he did get one collect on them, two of uh his horses ran second in one of those all-up multis, uh, and he collected 16 bucks. But that's no good to him because he's lost four bucks on the week because he started with twenty. He doesn't get at least his steak back to steer on twenty next time he's up, so he drops back to ten, but he doesn't take too big a points hit for the Wranglers when it comes to punter of the year.
SPEAKER_03Alright, alright, well done boys. Each week we're not going to go through all the punts, we'll go through the winning punts. That'll be it each week, uh, unless something special sticks its head up and we have to poke a little bit of fun at it. Uh looking back at the sheet, boys, for you rookies, if you've got the sheets in front of you, the weekly result packs, all pretty simple. Uh minus one, two, two, we are after week one of the punt. Uh the weekly collect. There's your two collects, 78 bucks. Uh, we give a team strike rate there in the biggest collects of the year. Obviously, there's only two on there. Neville Nobody running third for that one. Now, next to that Punter of the Year ladder, you will see Be the Ball Stable Wars. Now on the same page as Stable Wars, gentlemen, we have our uh sorry, Punter of the Year, we have our Stable Wars ladders. And as you can see, there's some uh lovely aqua blue there for leader, and the Black Caviar stable are leading with Smitty Win. Now all those members under him, Major Mortawin, Daniel Sun, come later, on style here early Harry, they're all in the same team in those stables. So the whole idea of Stable Wars, and it's been around since Beatle Ball 1, as has Punter of the Year, is that if you're going no good on the punt yourself and having a bit of a crap year, uh you can still do okay. Uh Erwin Geordie's probably a great example last year. He was part of the winning stable, didn't contribute a lot as far as winners went, but he ended up getting 40 bucks off his fees for this year because of this, because he did so well in Stable Wars or his team did so well in it. Uh not a lot to report at this early stage. Obviously, there's a lot of teams on uh minus 20, uh, and that's the way it goes. Now each team is split into two. What about the names up there? Some of the boys, uh especially the new guys, might be looking at the names thinking, what the hell does a black caviar stable mean? Well, over the years, from day one, we've had uh different these names were this is what the stables used to be before we split them into teams uh as the primary reason to do it. We only did that probably a handful of years ago. Uh so Norman Cummings, for instance, is uh Greg Norman, who was a great golfer, and Bark Cummings. Now the tour is about punting and and uh tipping and golf, so that makes perfect sense. Uh Daly Martin is one that many people ask about, John Daly, of course, party boy, big golfer. Uh he loved it. And uh the trainer at the time, so this goes back 20 years now, don't forget. Uh Tim Martin, a lot of us knew him growing up as kids, and uh he was a bit of a party boy trainer in the Sydney Circuit and doing quite well in those days, Daly Martin. We have had a couple of changes over the years. Hey, you bought in Winx, AC, you had to, didn't you? Well, Black Caviar, we we had that in as the top stable there for years. Uh Winx surpassed Black Caviar, so it became the number one stable. Uh this signifies now when you look at them, the King Brown's Wink stable, so it's number one Winks stable. They were the top team last year uh as far as winning the stable wars are concerned, right down to number 10 McElroy Wallace stable. These were the boys who were last last year, with a couple of changes obviously caused by the player draft. THC Premiership. Moving right along, boys. Let's have a quick look at the THC Premiership after week one. Oh, geez, we're rattling along today, Ron. Well, this is very much information packed, this first one. We've got to get a lot of things out there, and uh, that's for the rookies uh in particular. But there's also a fair few boys, I imagine, who don't like reading too much uh who would like a uh an insight or a refresher on how these things are working. So looking at the THC ladder for this stage after week one, please remember this boys, this table is very volatile. It will change massively over the next eight or nine weeks, and by the time we hit September, you've got a much better layer of the land where the teams are at. But right now the Wranglers are on top uh of the Crocs and there's 1900 to 1800 points somewhere in there. I wouldn't worry too much about that. Now, this is where having the 10 players, the extra player each for the shooters, cattle dog and King Brown's hurts, which is at the start of the year. Because right now, until everyone's had a punt and we're a fair few weeks into the tipping season, uh, you're carrying the extra player, which is uh means there's an extra minus 20, for instance, in there in the punter of the year scores, etc. So that drags down those shooters, cattle dogs, and King Brown's scores. So I would take all these with a grain of salt, but they are very handy for the boys to be able to look at and see where your team is situated. So this will be up here every year on this page in the weekly result pack every year, every week. I mean, sorry about that. We are trying to get through. By jeez, we are moving quick. All right. I like down the bottom how it's got the Tri Harder Cup scoreboard. That must be the winners over all of the years. That's right, mate.
SPEAKER_01The Captain Cattle Dog, uh, he's not gonna he's only down to one now. We're down to second last, so we need to move up a bit.
SPEAKER_03Well, that's right. Cattle uh the Crocs, Mickey McKenna, eight. Uh they are way out in front, and he's been the skipper for every one of those premierships. The Wranglers, after winning last year, they moved to two. That's two in three years, so they are the new kids on the block until next year, which we will get into down the track, I'm sure. Uh, shooters, uh, they're on two. Now they had two different captains for that. The first time was Girias Stuff, he was the first skipper, way back when, and uh Crying Out Loud came in, I think, took over in one year one victory, and uh then promptly retired from the position. Uh so there you go. Uh and the King Browns still yet to open their account this year, maybe the year, but Ben.
SPEAKER_04Ah, to your right. I don't think there's any doubt that the King Browns are going to win this year, and as you said, paying absolutely no attention to that scoreboard in these early days just yet.
SPEAKER_00Be the ball tattoo trophy.
SPEAKER_03Okay, gents, the final page for this week's weekly report, the first of the season for Beat the Ball 19, and it takes you to Beat the Ball 19, NRL tipping, super coach, and AFL tipping, which are all part of the next page. So that's the last two pages, the Tattoo Trophy. So the Tattoo Trophy for the rookies and for those who need a bit of explanation is run over 12 events throughout the course of the season. You accumulate points each tournament or contest, uh, depending on how many starters there are. So if there are 36 starters, for instance, in any contest and you happen to win that contest, not only do you get a hundred bucks off your fees going into Beatle 20 anniversary tour, you also receive 36 points. Second gets 35 points, third 34, right down to number one. Pretty self-explanatory. Yeah, you can anyone can work that one out. So but it's really important to get your team playing in them because if they don't play in them, what happens?
SPEAKER_01They get a big fat zero, mate, a duck egg town. That's where they're gonna be hanging around. You need these for the THC premiership.
SPEAKER_04Uh that's one of the problems with some of these teams. It's getting the boys to go into some of these comps. I mean, how hard is it to do something like uh put a number in or pick three golfers in order, you know? Go for your life. I mean, Carnival puts all the information in front of you.
SPEAKER_03Well, that is quite often what decides who wins premierships and who doesn't by how many there goes in them. So this is the first update for the NRL tipping supercoach and the AFL tipping since we went behind closed doors in that first week of May. So that'll be about 10 or 11 weeks um looking at the NRL tipping. We're not going to go through everything. Uh it'll take too long. Each week we'll just go through the top ones and any ones that need special mention. Strength and Johnna is still leading on 112. He's got a big, big lead at the moment. So that's about 17 points to equal second Metro Matt Barnes' boy Dave. Yeah, but you can't forget, mate, you have your Jokers. You have three Jokers to play this season. Yeah, and also if you happen to get the margin right, you get a bonus point there too. Yep, there's a long way to go. We are down to the final third of the NRL season, so the tipping has nine more weeks to go, as does the NRL Supercoach. So whilst strength and John are maybe out there a long way in front, uh, bottom line is I would say he's used most of his jokers, if not all of them, uh, and there are going to be some massive movers and shakers over the remainder of the season, especially once Origin's out of the way this Wednesday.
SPEAKER_02Heading over to the supercoach, and uh it looks like uh it's just a battle between uh King Blooms and the Wranglers at the moment, isn't it?
SPEAKER_03It is indeed. So Manscaper Nads has uh pulled away from Frogman Grant, who has led for much of the year, Frogman, but Manscaper had a massive week considering there was only five games on the slate. Uh 1,090 points, and he leads on 23-4-3-8. Frogman Grant, not far away, only 33 points off in second, 934. Highwire Will was the second highest score for the week, 105-1. So it's a welcome return to form for him. He's a Wrangler, of course, 22-7-9-8. But in that top three, six, eight positions, uh, there are three King Browns, four Wranglers, uh, and two shooters in the top ten with that, and then another Wrangler. So uh, and those two shooters, let's be honest. Well, they came over from another team.
SPEAKER_04They were plucked from the Wranglers in the player draft. So Benza Bear's done extremely well there.
SPEAKER_03That he has. Next to Win, Nath was a Wrangler, as was Smitty Wynn, and they are both sitting in the top ten, albeit in the bottom of that top ten, but they are now where shooters' colours. So those points, uh Tattoo Trophy points, uh, and also the THC Premiership points that are picked up from this, they will go over to the shooter score line now. So nice pickup indeed. Um, as you can see from that, there have been a couple of late entries over the last week uh since the player draft has been done. Lion tamer Lockheed and Big Top Al, they've both moved in there for the Wranglers. Running last and second last, that's to be expected. I mean they're starting off scratch, uh, but the bottom line is they will score at least some points for their team. So that's important to keep an eye on. Uh, and there may be by the look of that one Wrangler missing, so we'll have to uh look at that. And some of the other teams have got as low as six players, uh, which probably isn't going to get the job done and will hurt the team over the 12 months. AFL tipping, strength and John is out in front again, 128. He's only got a two-point lead this time over the teammate 126, Roger that Diva. Crocs on top, couple of King Browns not far behind, five points off tank rider Jason third spot. Frogman Grant uh leads a whole cacophony of players chasing those top few. Again, there are three jokers in play this season as well as a bonus point for getting the margin right on that dedicated game each week. Uh, if you want to play, look down to the bottom right of that sheet on your weekly player uh player pack, results pack, sorry, uh NRL tipping. You'll see the lead code there to enter. So go to the Daily Telegraph Supercoach. Just if you don't have a team, log in. Uh, put that lead code in where it says join leagues on the website, uh, and you'll go straight to the Beat the Ball comp. Same with Supercoach, same with AFL. And we have the three team sheets there for the team points in those events only, and the Crocs are doing very well. They're leading the NRL tipping and the AFL tipping. Uh the Wranglers are still on top in Supercoach, but that's an incredibly tight battle, and the Wranglers and King Browns look like they will shoot that one out. Uh pardon. Sorry about that, shooters, over the rest of the season.
SPEAKER_01Oh, the Cattle Dogs, mate, we aren't going very well. We're running third in the NRL tipping, last in the supercoach, and second or last in the AFL. This may be a long year, mate.
SPEAKER_03Well, it's up to the boys to get involved, to get a team in. Uh, but anyway, can't do much more than talk about it. Right, the final page now, we are over to it. This is the Tattoo Trophy page, and this table, as you can see, is blank at the moment. There's no one in there, no names, no points. But as soon as our first Tattoo Trophy event, the open, is run and done in a couple of weeks, those points will then filter into this table. They will then also filter into the individual Tattoo Trophy uh points for each player, but also into the THC Premiership points. So that's when we start to see the first of our real big moves on the THC table. I think that just about covers it for today.
SPEAKER_02Uh you've got those little uh competition acons there too. Uh what happens there?
SPEAKER_04You better let them know that, Ron. That's pretty damn simple. The people who win them, their heads go in there. I mean, uh come later on Steve, for instance, he won the Profit Legend last year, defending champion. Uh, and when that contest finishes, if he won it again, his head would go directly under Profit Legend. I think that just did it perfectly.
SPEAKER_03All right, uh any more to cover, boys, today? We've tried it, it's information loaded this one. I know, I apologise, but it needs to be said and done. Uh these will be a lot shorter, these podcasts going forward, just covering the weekly results, and we've got a couple of little things up our sleeve that we'll be introducing to you over the coming weeks.
SPEAKER_04Uh, I think that's it. Perfect. It's been uh I'm still a little jet lagged, to be honest, at coming back. Uh oh, no doubt still hung over too. I tell you what, you spent some time in that uh wine and cigar lounge. Uh Huey Jackman's, yeah, I did. I tell you that building goes for about six levels, and what I found in that dungeon, my goodness, it uh would open your eyes if you they weren't so shut from drinking so much.
SPEAKER_03All right, uh we might leave that one there. Uh anything else from you, Mario?
SPEAKER_01No, mate, just had to happy to be home, looking for a job, but I I'm sure we will talk about this later on. Uh I'm happy to be here though.
SPEAKER_03You do seem chirp here on these podcasts, so that's good to know.
SPEAKER_02Sandy, anything from you? No, not at all. I um uh just the Wranglers have started okay, so that's fine. They've taken a couple of hits in the draft.
SPEAKER_03Just on the draft, is uh do you uh anyone have anything that they've noticed from those teams? I just think they're all pretty well balanced. Looking at them all, I can't see this competition not being tight. The Wranglers are are gonna have a fair few players that are rookies, uh, so that's gonna hurt their points initially, but I expect them to rally back and I think it's gonna go right down to the wire this year. It's gonna be pretty exciting. I do too, as does Carnival. Alright, that'll do us for now. Thank you for listening in, boys. Uh, this week on the way, uh, we will be back on Thursday with a weekend preview for week two, and then next week we have the Open, the British Open starting up, so there'll be details on that coming out at some point, I am sure, from Carnival. That'll do for now. Thanks a lot, boys. Talk to you later on.
