Gratitude & National Podcast Day
SPEAKER_01Hello, hello. This is Dominique.
SPEAKER_00What's going on, y'all? This is DJ.
SPEAKER_01And we are bringing you another podcast episode today. We're super excited because today is National Podcast Day. So we thought it was just right.
SPEAKER_00It's only right.
SPEAKER_01Absolutely. And we just want to start this episode first off being so grateful that you are giving us your minutes of the day. We hope that every time we bring you an episode, that we can feed your soul a little bit and have that radiate to the next person through you. So podcasts are definitely powerful. It has a way of not only bringing me and my husband together with our thoughts, ideas, but also letting us express ourselves and our voices out there and laying that foundation of no matter what you can do, you can give out to somebody some way and live in
Why Podcasting Feels Powerful
SPEAKER_01your passion. It gives you a voice.
SPEAKER_00100%, y'all. And most importantly, keep it real with you guys, giving y'all a little bit more of an outside taste. Obviously, if you are involved in our community, man, just giving y'all some raw tangents background on us outside of the building, outside of the gym. And if you're not involved with our community, just even if you're listening, like Dom said, just trying to inspire you to become better in your body and in your mind, and hopefully have you relate a message to someone else to help them as well, right? That's what it's all about, building each other up through what we love to do. And shout out to, you know, all the other people out there podcasting on things that they love, man, and trying to inspire positivity into this world, uh, one person and one listener at a time.
SPEAKER_01Yeah,
Community Beyond The Gym
SPEAKER_01absolutely. I think me and DJ both have a good set of podcasters that we listen to that help influence, inspire, and even give us good business insights and growth that we really relied on when we were first opening up body games. And even now, we're always looking to grow, looking to be better. And I think podcasts are the best way to do that first in the palm of your hand, I guess should I say. It's it's something that you can find the information, find like-minded, find tips, tricks. So I think it's a great outlet. And it's something that we all can do. Pick up a podcast if you haven't.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, podcast, write, read. There's power, guys. That's that is what we like, Dom said, just want to always continue to grow on whether we in a uh physical mental journey, whether we in our prefers professional life or even relational, uh uh with our with our people that we love and and we enjoy being around.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, absolutely. And I think DJ hit on a great word right now, which is power. Y'all know we love that word because it has so many different meanings. But we are actually coming to
The PowerShift Challenge Overview
SPEAKER_01you not only on podcast day, but also in the middle of our power shift challenge that's happening at Body Game. So, DJ, you want to break that down a little bit? What was the Power Shift or is the PowerShift Challenge?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, again, we're in the middle of it. We are actually in week five. There's eight weeks to what we're doing right now on our PowerShift Challenge. And it started on September the 3rd, it's ending in that last week of October, right before Halloween. But we wanted to pretty much break this challenge down into eight different points, eight different sections. We had accountability, we had the mindset, we had nutrition, we had power, we had a recovery week, which we're currently doing right now in our D lo phase. And the biggest point was for that we wanted to do is help our people possibly through each phase figure out what was their weakest phase, possibly, what's their strongest phase, and how we how we can improve, but above all, most important, consistency. So creating those consistent habits, being consistent, knowing that it's not gonna be perfect, but no matter what, just making that effort to show up, man, without the excuses.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, we've had a good number of people join us for the PowerShift Challenge. And I told DJ it's probably been one of our most consistently attended challenges for our new members or the people that joined us for the challenge. And I think that has a great deal with sort of the way that it was structured of not only are we saying, hey, reclaim your power, but let's reset this one step at a time instead of just throwing you into something. Yeah. We started very basic and we've sort of grown up and into. We scaled it back, of course, this week for D-Load week, but then we're going straight into max week. So a very tangible way that, hey, you don't have to go zero to a hundred, guys. Like that's that's not doable, that's not sustainable. We're gonna burn out, we're not gonna build up. Let's do one thing. Can you handle adding in a wall? Can you handle adding in something nutritious? That's where we start. We lay our foundation and we grow from there. So I've been really excited. Shifting power, shifting gears. I know going into October, we got three
Structure: Mindset, Nutrition, Recovery
SPEAKER_01months left of 2025.
SPEAKER_0090 days, 90 days. So, and just get out of those excuses, guys. If you're if you're not active right now or you just been thinking about it, hey man, just go ahead and take actions. I know, man, I'm just anti-excuses, guys. I hear people say, oh man, I'm I don't know if I can still do it. I'm too old. And this is family as well. And my thing is we're never too old. You know, I just take it back. One thing my pastor has been challenging us on is going back and just taking time in the Bible. And I've been fortunate to go back even to the very first chapter in Genesis. And one thing about Noah, guys, is God came to him to build the ark. Noah was 500 years old. So think take take that into context. Like, what if Noah told God, like, hey, God, I'm too old to build this ark. And what would happen to Noah? It would have flooded with the rest of the world and his family would have died. So we have to stop coming and thinking that we're too old or we we can't do it. Like we used to speaking that over us, man, when we just take that one action step and then compound it over time, and next thing you know, you you ahead of your journey.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, absolutely. And I think internally we've had a couple members join that were on the quote unquote, probably I'm too old status, but they have stuck with it. They have found each other, and every day I'm like, oh my gosh, this is amazing. Yeah. From coming in and not being able to lift a five-pound dumbbell to sitting there curling a 20. 100%. And I mean in a matter of a couple of months.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And I'm not saying that just to brag on our folks, even though you know I always will. But it is the power of consistently. The people that I'm referring to showed up three days a week for the last three, four months. 100%. Regardless. They shift around their schedules, they text each other,
Consistency Over Excuses
SPEAKER_01they're like, hey, I'm not gonna make this class, but you better make it to that class. Yeah, exactly. So it's overcoming that I can't, and just start saying you will. What you speak over yourself is going to be. Yeah. So why not speak positivity? Why not speak action? So many people construe this word action as a feeling. Oh, when I feel ready or I feel better or I feel like I have time. That's kind of BS. Yeah. Calling you out. I love you, but it's not a feeling. Action is what it is, it's a verb, it's doing it regardless. And that's the discipline, the consistency that we have to have to achieve goals in any realm of your life, not just fitness.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. And if you have kids, uh Domin, you're 100% right. If you have kids, guys, that that is positive and can be negative, like depending on how you're showing up with them. Um, I love seeing our kids in childcare looking out and they're seeing mom or dad just getting after it on the floor, uh, lifting weights, or even on a conditioning day. Because now you we're just inspiring good quality, healthy habits that's gonna help them mentally and physically in the long run. So your child being able to know, like, hey, at this time, no matter what, at nine o'clock or 4 40, my mom, I'm gonna be with them and I'm gonna be in child care, and I get to see my mom or dad work out. It's power in that. And that is so inspiring. Them seeing us do healthy habits and not just be on the couch or watching Netflix or but actually doing and taking action. Because guess what? As they get older, they're gonna see that and they'll be like, I feel like I should be working out, or I feel like I should be following my mom or my dad in their footsteps and what they're doing.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, absolutely.
You’re Not Too Old: Real Stories
SPEAKER_01And not only following in their footsteps, building that generational health, but you're also teaching them a way to cope with their daily lives as they get older, as they have stress, as they go through school. Exercise and eating well is such a power tool to keep them going, to keep them focused, and to help them release stress. I mean, I know I'm a happier mom when I get to work out.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's facts.
SPEAKER_01Oh so why not teach them and show them those tools? Because those are things that we need. We had somebody actually join us for the PowerShift Challenge that starting law school, and they literally suggested that they find somewhere to work out to help them cope. And if that's not power and hey, if y'all don't do it now, you better start because you're gonna need something to let it go. Why not teach your kids how to do that now?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_01Why not? I know our kids love to be in a gym, they think they're little coaches, and I think it's hilarious, but it's figuring out that that system that they'll be able to develop when they get older.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and then and it doesn't have to be an hour workout, it doesn't have to be that 50-minute or that 30 or even 20-minute workout. Again, just that five, that 10, 15-minute walk outside. You got some dumbbells, you got some kettlebells in your garage. Hey, after that meeting, or you feeling that stress and anxiety, you had a but a bad conversation, a bad moment. Hey, go, go, get out, get out your head, you know, and get in your body. And then I guarantee, no matter what, just you getting that blood flow to your body, to your nervous system, to your brain, afterwards, you're gonna be like, man, I I'm glad I did that. You're gonna feel better, you're gonna feel more energized. And that's why we say, man, movement is medicine, guys. Movement is medicine.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I think to DJ's point, just going into knowing that every season of your life is going to come with a different struggle. You think as soon as one thing is over or one thing that's taking your time, let's say your kid's in the sport season, next turns around, okay, well, your job switched up your schedule. There's always gonna be an obstacle, but it's how we pivot overcome. Y'all, what DJ said, it can be five minutes. It can be 10 minutes, 10 minutes after you eat every day to get up, walk in place, walk around your office, go outside if you're able to. That is
Action Beats Feelings
SPEAKER_01something that's just gonna jumpstart your body, your movement, and make you feel better regardless. It doesn't have to be this over and compensating thing. It's just what we can control to make ourselves better and to take that power back.
SPEAKER_00100%. And stop, let's let's all stop saying the phrase, hey man, life just be life and because guess what? It's gonna always be life in that context. And it's up to us to make that time, right? Make that time and take that time. And even, hey, if you got a busy morning or a busy afternoon, adjust. Adjust that schedule to that. And then just remember, man, you're making appointments. We're making appointments with ourselves for our health long term, right? That heart attack or that high blood blood pressure diagnosis actually started 20 years ago. Right? Any that obesity, that 20 pounds, guess what? That 20 pounds that we're trying to lose, that didn't just happen in the last two weeks. This happened over five, six, seven, ten years of us not taking that action enough, not making the right decisions. But we have the power to change that right now.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, absolutely. And to DJ's point, it took us, and everybody has habits, so we're not calling you out if you know whatever it is, but it takes
Modeling Health For Our Kids
SPEAKER_01years for these things to adapt and to happen to our bodies. So to think that we can wake up and change it in the matter of weeks is not reality. We have to come to terms with things being slow, about it being uncomfortable, about the mornings when we wake up and we're like, oh, I don't even see it. What's the point? That's that's so beyond what you need to achieve and realize that it took years to get into this habit that you have now that you want to break. So it might take a year to get out of it, but it's consistency, consistently telling yourself that you can, that you want better, and that you're gonna let God take the wheel because at the end of the day, he's gonna steer you in the right direction. He woke you up today for you to make an impact, for you to find your purpose, live in it, and impact people around you. So let's wake up with you behind the driver's seat instead of riding passenger. Don't let what you see all day influence how you're feeling about yourself, influence how what you're gonna do, who you're gonna see, what you're gonna wear. Screw that. This is
Five Minutes Counts: Movement Is Medicine
SPEAKER_01your day. This is your life. So get up and make it yours. Take that control.
SPEAKER_00Take that control. And as we're wrapping it up, man, we I think we're around 13 minutes now. Celebrate those small wins. I know we you all heard us say this in the past. You're gonna continue to hear us say this not only today, but tomorrow. Guess what, and next week and next month. Celebrate those small wins. It's so easy to get caught up in what we didn't do, what we could do, instead of focusing on the present, focusing on that peace of mind. And then, hey, you know what? I I made it on time today. You know what? I didn't hit the snooze. Hey, I finished that book. I finished the pages, uh, those five pages that I said I was gonna do. I I did great with my notes. I sent that email out that I was supposed to. Those small wins, guys, celebrate those, reflect on those, build on those, and be better for tomorrow.
SPEAKER_01Absolutely. I think what DJ said is right. The only thing I have to add there is just be intentional about it. Yeah, know what you're setting out to do, and then recognize when you accomplish it. And that can be in everything and anything that you want it to be, not just fitness or wellness. That could be your job, your kids. Set that intention and go out there and make it happen because you have the power to do that.
SPEAKER_00Facts. It's facts, man. That's good stuff, guys. You're gonna
Pivot Through Life’s Seasons
