"Dear Christianity..."

Dale Westervelt

Christianity is the largest religion in the world, and in just over 20 years, half the number of practicing Christians in the United States have walked away from the faith. Not only is it fair to call this a crisis, but it's surprising this story is so publicly quiet. This is a fact that will be featured in future history books. Consider possible causes for such a steep decline. Either Christianity is a fundamentally destructive religion, or the church has gone off the rails without even realizing it. Were I one of the ones who walked away, I'm sure I would believe it's the first one. But because I'm so firmly convinced it's the second one, I started this podcast. The name Dear Christianity is the opening of a letter, one that I've written and I'll publish in the autumn. And I believe that no matter who you are, you have something important to write in your Dear Christianity letter. I'm your host, Dale Westerville, and I bring a master's degree in theology and 45 years in the church. teaching, psalm preaching, and church leadership. The podcast will be built on three big ideas. Number one, there's an obvious and serious problem in contemporary Christianity. Number two, the crisis is owing to a widespread and fundamental misunderstanding about the essence of the Christian religion. And number three, the remedy is simple, though not easy, and it's extravagantly good. I invite you to join us twice a month for a clear eyed look at contemporary Christianity and the gospel of Jesus Christ, a gospel that is suitable and sweet for humans like me and like you.
