Episode 15: Preparing for a positive Caesarean Birth with Dr Natalie Elphinstone
Dr Natalie Elphinstone is an Obstetrician working on The Mornington Peninsula. She has witnessed the birth of over 1500 babies and believes in supporting women and families to make individual choices that feel right for them. And if that choice involves a caesarean section, then she’s a keen advocate for making that the best possible version of a caesarean birth it can be!
Her videos of Maternal and Partner Assisted Caesareans have gone viral on Instagram (@drnatalieelphinstone) prompting discussions with healthcare providers all around the world, and inspiring no less than at least 7 other countries to follow her lead so far.
In this episode, we discuss:
- An overview of what to expect in a caesarean birth
- If someone is wanting a maternal assisted caesarean, what does that mean and who can access it
- Ways you can create a calm, positive environment for a planned caesarean
- What options people have in 'emergency' or unplanned caesareans
