All right, let us go into chapter 2, chapter number 2, verse 1, Wherefore, laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings, As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby. If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious. we see here that we have a responsibility. We are responsible for getting rid of malice, which is an unforgiving spirit. We are responsible for getting rid of guile, which is deceitfulness. We are responsible for getting rid of hypocrisies, envies, jealousies, and all evil speaking. And as newborn babes craves for natural milk, we ought to have that same craving for the milk of God's word, since we have tasted that the Lord is gracious. All right, verse number four, to whom coming as unto a living stone, let me read it again, to whom coming as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God and precious. I like that. We come as little babes, humble, to the living stone. The living stone is Jesus Christ, who was rejected of men, but chosen of God the Father, and is precious. I want you to know that Jesus Christ is indeed precious. Alright, verse number five. Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house and holy priesthood to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. Wherefore, also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Zion a chief cornerstone, elect, precious, and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded. Unto you therefore which believe he is precious, but unto them which be disobedient. The stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner. And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient, whereunto also they were appointed. But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, and holy nation, a peculiar people that ye should show forth the praises of him who had called you out of darkness into his marvelous light, which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God, which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy. Let me read those verses from the Living Bible. And now you have become living, building stones for God, for God's use in building His house. What's more, you are His holy priests. He says, what's more, you are His holy priests. So come to Him, you who are, acceptable to Him because of Jesus Christ, and to offer to God those things that please Him. Come and offer to God those things that please Him. I like that. As the scripture expresses itself. See, I am sending Christ to be the carefully chosen precious cornerstone of my church and I will never disappoint those who trust in Him. Yes, He is very precious to you who believe and to those who reject Him, well, The same stone that was rejected by the builders has become the cornerstone, the most honored and important part of the building. And all the scriptures also say He is the stone that some will stumble over and the rock that will make them fall. They will stumble because they will not listen to God's word nor it. And so this punishment must follow that they will fall. But you are not like that. for you have been chosen by God himself. You are priests of the King. You are holy and pure. You are God's very own. All this so that you may show to others how God called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light. Once you knew very little of God's kindness, now your very lives have been changed by it. Verse 11. Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshy lusts. Which war against the soul. Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles, that whereas they speak against you as evil doers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation. Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake, whether it be to the king as supreme, or unto governor as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of IEB doers and for the praise of them that do well. For so it is the will of God that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men. let me read this from the living Bible, which makes it clearer. Dear brothers, you are only visitors here. Since your real home is in heaven, I beg you to keep away from the evil pleasures of this world. They are not for you. for they fight against your very souls. Be careful how you behave among your unsaved neighbors. For then, even if they are suspicious of you and talk against you, they will end up praising God for your good works when Christ returns. For the Lord's sake, obey every law of your government, those of the King. As head of the state and those of the king's officers, for he has sent them to punish all who do wrong and to honor those who do right. It is God's will that your good lives should silence those who foolishly condemn the gospel without knowing what it can do for them having never experienced its power. That's well said. All right. Verse 16. As free and not using your liberty for a cloak of maliciousness, but as the servants of God. Peter says here, even though we have been born again of incorruptible seed, which means we are not from here, we are pilgrims, we are strangers, we are visitors down here. Even though we are from heaven, we are to abide by the laws of the land while we live here on this earth. And even though we are free, We must remember that we are the servants of God and as servants of God, we bring glory and praise to God by obeying the laws of the land. Verse 17 he says, honor all men, love the brotherhood, fear God, honor the king. Servants be subject to your masters with all fear, not only to the good and gentle, but also to the fraud. For this is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully. For what glory is it, if when ye be buffeted for your faults, when ye shall take it patiently? But if when ye do well and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God. And in verse 18, peter instructed the slaves to be subject to their masters. Whether they were good masters or unreasonable masters. Likewise, today, we are to be subject to our bosses on the job as long as he or she is not asking us to do that which is illegal or dishonest. Because as Christians, we reveal the praise of God by our attitudes and actions in labor, uh, relationships. Alright? Verse 21. For even here unto where ye called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example that ye should follow his steps, who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth. Who? When he was reviled, reviled not again, and when he suffered, he threatened not, but he committed himself to him that judged righteously. Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree that we being dead to sins should live unto righteousness, by whose stripes ye were redeemed. Healed for ye were as sheep going astray, but are now returned unto the shepherd and bishop of your souls.
