All right, I trust that you are already there at 1 John, the first chapter. First John, the first chapter, but let me just say this. This epistle places emphasis on our assurance of salvation. It reveals several contrasts such as light and darkness, love and hate, God's spirit and the spirit of the antichrist, God's children and the children of the devil. It covers topics such as the love of God, Jesus, our advocate and more. And on this note, let us begin our study through this awesome book. I trust that you're already there at first John chapter one, and let's begin reading that verse number one. Let's read verses one through four. That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled of the word of life. For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness and show unto you that eternal life. Which was with the father and was manifested unto us that which we have seen and heard declare we unto you that ye also may have fellowship with us. And truly our fellowship is with the father and with his son, Jesus Christ. And these things, right? We unto you that your joy may be full. Now the Apostle John, his message here is of Jesus Christ. From the beginning refers to the time Jesus entered the world in the form of man, clothed with humanity. When Jesus was about 30 years old, John became acquainted with him. He became one of his disciples. John heard him with his ears. He saw him because he was with him for at least three years. He says, our hands have handled. In other words, he had a personal relationship with him. John wrote these things to encourage the believers and to keep them from being unmovable in the fate. All right, let's look at verses five through 10. This then is the message which we have heard of him and declared to you that God is light and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him and walk in darkness, we lie and do not the truth. But if we walk in the light as he is in the light, We have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ, his son, cleanses us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful, and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. Now, John is simply saying here that God is light, and his children are light. And anyone who claims to be a child of God but practices sin is a liar. But he also makes it clear that the believer is not flawless. Anyone who believes they are without sin deceives themselves. We all have shortcomings. The difference between us and the ungodly is that we don't know. practice sin and they do. Then he says when we do sin and confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
