Speaker 1:

Welcome to Simply Sports. It's your boy, sgr. We got Gene, monty and Lamar for the Super Bowl and if you did not know, the Eagles did win. We have to take a moment and give a righteous recall. The righteous recall was again where a person was wrong. I was the person. Monty, speak your piece, please.

Speaker 2:

All I said was that it was more than likely going to be the Chiefs and the Eagles in the Superbowl, even though that's not what none of us wanted. I said that more than likely it was them and that the Eagles were going to win if it was.

Speaker 1:

And I do have to say something in this moment. I want to do what Kendrick told me to do Be humble To what happened and what did we want to happen? Obviously, we all wanted the lions to go to the Superbowl and money One of the Steelers to go to the Superbowl. I'm going to read my, my, my tagline, Cause you know Jailer hurts new fave IDK. Like I don't even know the man's position, but it's okay, Look, look a quick Google. Let's tell me everything I know. He's six one and he got a girl.

Speaker 3:

You didn't read quarterback oh he's quarterback hey, qb hey.

Speaker 1:

So, gene Lamar Manny, what did we want to happen? Obviously, like I said, you know, we didn't want these two to go to the Super Bowl, but they got to the Super Bowl. But did you guys want who you wanted to win to win?

Speaker 3:

Yes.

Speaker 1:

Yes, I think we did.

Speaker 3:

It was a real, I mean one of the. I texted you guys like the very first, like pass interference call with AJ Brown. I was like, oh, come on, man, not with that. But I mean, yeah, yeah, it was a good game, we'll get into it. I think the chiefs were very good in the one objective that they had, which was stopping safe on barkley. The rest of it couldn't have been worse so your, your tagline says what today patrick mcsack six times.

Speaker 3:

Oh dude, he had no. Their defense was smothering out these guys. Some people just amp it up and I was like he had no room to breathe, like at all I just I kind of was watching, you know, playback and so on and so forth.

Speaker 1:

But I'm just laughing because, I'll be honest with you, the super bowl, if it wasn't my team, I don't watch it like so I watch the clip. I'm just like they will end up. So, lamar, what say you? And you know, read your tagline too when you're done.

Speaker 4:

For sure. Honestly, I didn't have a leg in this fight, I just wanted to see a halfway decent game. You know, honestly, I thought the NFL was going to try to go for, you know, the three-peat, and notice, I said the NFL was going to go for the know, the three peak, and that's notice. I said the nfl was gonna go um, but I actually enjoyed the game more than I thought I was, and I'm gonna tell you why. It's because, um, the eagles have been so run dominant all year and and gene was right, um, they, they, they, the. The chiefs went to stop the run. But guess what? People forgot Jalen can actually throw and Jalen actually has a good surrounding cast, so he was slanging that thing, you know. People forgot that AJ Brown is a beast. People forgot Smith was, was a dog, you know. And you got Dallas Gilbert as as your tight end, and so I was actually really impressed that he did the opposite of what he normally does he threw the ball. So I mean dang, did they shut down the Chiefs? I mean dang.

Speaker 1:

What was the score?

Speaker 4:

Lamar, Monty, Gene, here's all I know None of my parlays hit or none of my scores hit, so I don't even remember.

Speaker 2:

Mine did baby oh hit, so I don't even remember, mind it, baby.

Speaker 1:

Oh, really, I do have to laugh because I have to answer that question, because you know I have to. Before we get off topic. The Philadelphia Eagles have 40 points and the Kansas City Chiefs literally had 20. Excuse me, let me make sure I don't lie 22. Go Birds, that's what Lamar's tagline says. Go Birds, go ahead, monty. What do you got to say?

Speaker 2:

I enjoyed it. I feel like everyone was really expecting the three-peat P the NFL. There were so many people who, like, leaked the fake scores, saying that that's what they would want, because that's the fairy tale, because it's never happened. If repeat doesn't happen, often in many sports it doesn't happen. So for the NFL this would have been the first time, so you would have thought they would have went with the commercialized, like three P, all of the things.

Speaker 2:

Taylor would have got her proposal whatever the commercial, oh no, it was. She came in her all white, ready to be proposed to, and then, ha, you should have wore red to support your man. You're probably the reason why y'all lost, but I hope AI don't edit this into that part.

Speaker 1:

I swear to Lord in Jesus Christ, please. No, that's the gaze.

Speaker 2:

No, that was not. That's clocked. No, that's clocked.

Speaker 4:

That's clocked.

Speaker 2:

Thank you, that's the gaze.

Speaker 4:

My bad. Well, let me reverse that.

Speaker 2:

It's not the gaze, it just means clocked. But no, seriously, I wanted the Eagles to win. They definitely deserved to get their revenge from a couple years ago when they retreated out of their first Super Bowl. They got their revenge. They won. They really did a really great job of shutting down Patrick Mahoney.

Speaker 1:

There was one other thing. Your tagline says he doesn't do it for me. And you were talking about someone specifically because I asked well, eugene asked if we could have, you know, the top three da-da-da, and you said say Brown, I'll do it for you, even though he intellectual, you ain't even got that. Don't do that, no more.

Speaker 2:

He doesn't, I'm sorry.

Speaker 1:

It's okay, I don't need to hear any more lies out of your mouth.

Speaker 2:

Oh, it's not a lie.

Speaker 1:

He more lies out of your mouth. So we're not a lie. He doesn't sorry again. I'm gonna pause for the cause and go to the next little sub segment, which is what everybody think about the superbowl. Um, the superbowl halftime show. I really I liked it a lot. I feel like a lot of people probably didn't like it a lot, but that's my opinion. Gene lamar, money will go around again. What did you think, gee? You gotta ask you help me understand.

Speaker 3:

I was at a party. I may have had a few drinks and a couple smokes, so I wasn't totally there, so I might need to pass the buck and help me understand okay, we're gonna go to lamar, then monty, and then we'll come back to me so I'm like gene.

Speaker 4:

Um, I did have me a couple of dope beverages. However, so many many people in my circle know that I'm a Fairweather Kendrick fan, so I do like Kendrick, but I'm not a cult leader or a cult follower like everybody else, so the song selection wasn't my favorite. However, from an intellectual standpoint, it was spot on. I mean, I love the gems that he put in there. The pettiness was at an all-time high, which I love pettiness. It was at an all-time high.

Speaker 4:

Um, almost a little too high. Like almost too much energy towards the pettiness. Yeah, like like we spending a lot of money and creativeness towards this pettiness, which kind of bothered me a little bit, but okay, it's cool, whatever, um, so I I think it was cool. I mean, I think it's what we needed at the moment type type of thing. I don't think it's gonna be a long burner type of thing, like you know, not one that we talk about in a couple years, but I think it's what we needed for the moment all right, monty, your turn, and I'm gonna try to give you guys the breakdown of what I've read and researched.

Speaker 2:

You don't have to do the research, you know I got you. So I thoroughly enjoyed the gym, the idea Now, did I want him to go? Classic Kendrick, yes, but for what was what is happening in the world? He did what needed to be done, wholeheartedly um to have trump in the audience and to completely call him out in front of him. So beautiful to have the sage set up like squid games um, which symbolizes the rich and the poor and the game controller there you go there you go game controller to have the sony game controller which of course you know.

Speaker 2:

Sony just had his big issue a couple, a couple weeks ago, to have uncle sam. That was daniel. That was deep on two different levels, if you. You remember who we played in Django, his character in Django and him having that same mentality while he stands up there. And then Uncle Sam, of course, telling us don't be too ghetto, don't be too loud, give them the commercialization of what they really want, don't stand out. But of course that's what Black people are always told not to be too loud, not to be too ghetto, to stick in, to be like that. But his portrayal of they're not like us. We do not need to fit into whatever bubble that they're trying to place us into.

Speaker 1:

Can I steal the Serena point please?

Speaker 2:

Can I just say that, oh no, no, I'm a black woman. The idea that Drake disrespected Serena on so many levels, then to have her up there crip walking if you don't know, drake and Serena were together. So Kendrick having Serena crip walk, yes. And then, if you didn't also know SZA is also his ex To also have her sing a love song to Kendrick. The love that he thought of Every piece of everything that he did the A minor chain that he had on Beautiful, the fact that even the 40 Acres and a Mule, the idea of them telling him that he could not do this song on this stage because of the accusations of pedophilia. All he did was he took that line out, but he still, hey, drake this is something that I'll go ahead and say.

Speaker 1:

kendrick lamar is very much a lyricist, and very much a smart lyricist, like even if you because he's a very fast rapper even if you literally just read his stuff, it's like so the lyric is a minor, like the sound, but he's talking about him hitting on a minor, so the double entendre is there Exactly.

Speaker 1:

You laugh at it. He wore a chain with a lowercase a. As soon as I saw that, I was just like I know good, and it ain't well he's going to do I know he's going to do it Even though he knew that he was going to be suing.

Speaker 2:

Then the line of I want to do everybody's favorite song, I want to do the song they want me to do, but you know they like to sue. And he slid it down and did the love song. So we like oh, he ain't going to do it, he's not going to do it.

Speaker 2:

But then he was like oh no, it's bigger than the music which it is Because of the way that the politics are playing out right now and the way that Donald's policies are literally coming for everyone's neck. It's bigger than the music. Everyone wanted for this halftime show to be Lil Wayne, because he's so commercial, because it's New Orleans, because of so many things, and it would have been the songs that everybody knew, but he chose to do the songs that you didn't know. He chose songs that actually had meaning and power behind them, instead of what everyone would have expected, and I think that's what I had. Way more respect for him. And then the red, white and blue was all black men. How there were some literally this country.

Speaker 2:

What? Not until later, the american flag was all black men, and that's because this country was literally built on the black backs of black men, so it was just.

Speaker 1:

The entire show was symbolic of what we needed today I just, I just have to say thank you for breaking it down so funny, because I thought, listen, listen, lamar, I'll be looking to your right because I know it's the opposite. I'm just making sure nobody was coming down. If they come down, they come down, it's okay. Then go ahead and creating a new sub-segment today, calling it the Pivotal Play. What do you think really led to the victory? And again, we'll go around We'll start at Gene Lamar and then go to Manny, and then we'll go to Coach and Corral and end the episode for the 59 Super Bowl. It's so crazy that it's only been 59 Super Bowls. I feel like sports has been going on longer than 59 years. But we'll talk about that another day. Gene, what do you think led to the victory?

Speaker 3:

Yeah, no, that breakdown of the halftime show was great. I wish you were sitting next to me explaining it, because I was like why is this chain like that? I'm like there's just certain things that just don't click in my my pea brain, so I need people to help me understand. So thank you for that, I really appreciate it.

Speaker 1:

No problem, I'm going to cut it down and share it so that people can actually understand Loni's breakdown, because she is literally, but I'm sorry the only part I didn't say was when I say he called out Donald.

Speaker 2:

He literally said America chose the wrong guy and that's what he literally is calling chose the wrong guy and that's what he literally is calling out your president, flat out. I mean he's the wrong guy.

Speaker 1:

He's still the president, he's just not. Gene, go ahead. That's a different segment, purely political. Gene, go back to it. Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 3:

No worries, I think it's funny because, like you say, he did a lot of things that you didn't expect. I feel like that game went a lot of ways you did not expect, for sure. I mean, I said a lot of it earlier I feel like they ran, they rushed saquon 25 times, like that was there. I just needed him for a touchdown to get that three-player parlay. He couldn't do it. That's okay, it's fine, I'm over it, but yeah I mean the passing game was great.

Speaker 3:

I mean, when you that that like back foot catch by aj brown was sick, that deep bombed devonta smith was sick, he, that guy was all over him too. I mean, he's a little, he's not a little dude, he's like a little dude, but he's so strong, like so strong. And then every time jaylen needed to run, he did. You know he made like one bad throw earlier in the game and he just, you just knew he was like all right, fine, uh, yeah, take it. You know, even their kicker showed up.

Speaker 3:

I'm like everybody and their defense man, their defense was just like, as I joke patrick mcsack six times like if he wasn't such a good scrambling quarterback he got to easily take a 10 sacks like. That defense was like the year that michael strahan showed up and just like helped the giants like single, single-handedly crush the Patriots Like they just there was. You just knew from the start it's like they wanted it so much more than the chiefs did and they were playing like out of their minds. I was like it's, it was over from the start for me.

Speaker 1:

I was about to say I could tell when there were points on the scoreboard and the Chiefs had nothing. I mean they can't Lamar, Lamar, yes, yes, Go ahead, Mr.

Speaker 4:

Nobody. For me it's just simply that defensive line. As far as the scheme, they didn't really have to blitz because the defensive line just got that much pressure so that allowed everybody else, meaning your linebackers and your cornerbacks, to just stay in coverage. When you have the ability to just blitz excuse me, not even blitz just rush your four defensive linemen and create that much pressure and get that many sacks, that's a game changer, because that means essentially nobody is open on the back end. You know I'm saying somebody has to make a play. So for me it was just defense, defense, defense, defense wins championships. Clearly that's what. That's what won that yesterday and money, you know definitely.

Speaker 2:

I mean, the entire game was was great. I just was so impressed with the idea that most people thought they were going to choke second half because of how heavy they came in in the first half. They're like, oh you know, patrick can come back and I'm like, no, that you can see it in the Eagles that this is what they wanted. They needed this revenge that they they came to play and they came out in the beginning ready to just knock it down like you didn't touch nothing at halftime. It's crazy, like you, they did not. They, they did what they needed to do and they they. Jalen deserved it.

Speaker 4:

He deserved to finally get his and get his championship that jordan brand put out right after the superbowl was classic, classic absolutely I um, all of the commercials were interesting.

Speaker 2:

Coca-cola controversy is even my favorite right now, but yeah, I mean listen.

Speaker 1:

What I will say is that the way that the world is why just Pepsi, yeah and the way that the world is going, I'm learning not to be so shocked when I see things happen Because, again, I kept playing in chiefs, chiefs, chiefs, chiefs, chiefs, chiefs chiefs. But the way and the thing I love like if I had to take all of the episodes and everything is like sports expect the unexpected. We could say that, like the NFL is rigged, we could say that, you know, the ref reps are doing one thing, blah, blah, but ultimately, when things are going too far left, they go too far right, and when they go too far right, they go too far left. And I mean that plays out in multiple levels in our world. And that's all I'll say and I'll just leave it at that.

Speaker 1:

But does anyone have something that they want to leave with a coaching corral before we transition to baseball and basketball and even hockey? Because I heard there are so many different sports that we could talk about and, you know, not all of us are well-versed in everything except for football. So I would love to, you know, take a moment to talk about not this episode, because you know we'll start talking, but you know, simply, sports does not go away just because the NFL season has ended this NFL season. But does anyone want to give a little coaching corral of anything that you saw that you wish would happen this next season for Super Bowl 60? Or predictions of who you feel like the halftime show is going to be next year? I don't know, oh sorry.

Speaker 2:

Before I pass it, do realize that if you perform on, the halftime show is going to be next year, I don't know, oh sorry, before I pass it, do realize that if you perform on a halftime show, you get no money $472.

Speaker 1:

You get $472. What? Yes, you don't get money. So what you're doing is putting your name out there. What you're doing is making people talk about you. When Rihanna performed a couple years back, she took out a little makeup palette bop, bop, bop with her Fenty Beauty. Shout out to Rihanna. Y'all know why, but my point being is that's just marketing. So all that this did for Kendrick and I'm sorry to go back a step is he just wanted a slew of Grammys. Y'all going to be talking about this man. Some people may or may not understand, but y'all gonna be talking about this man. So that's all. So again back to the coaching corral. This is why we have an order, because y'all know I get all distracted. So, junior Lamar, what say you guys? What say you guys?

Speaker 3:

Leave him with for next year. We're still talking football, right? Anything, just anything. Oh, yeah, well, the Dodgers are ruining baseball, so I'll leave people with that, don't need to care. But yeah, football-wise, I don't know. I mean Xavier Worthy, definitely drafting that guy next year, for sure, 100%. I'm excited to see. Yeah, he's good man, he's good when they get Rashi back, it's going to be sick If he doesn't go to jail. Who Worthy or Rashi.

Speaker 4:

Oh yeah, that's right Rashi might go to jail yeah.

Speaker 1:

Bummer Baseball, nazlion football soccer Sorry.

Speaker 3:

I'm pulling a Ramil here. You said baseball and it's just the Dodgers are ruining. It's starting, spring training's starting and the Dodgers, literally, are just disgusting.

Speaker 1:

We will talk about that. No, no, you're not pulling your reveal, you just got to say the sport before, because then Lamar just chimed in and I thought Lamar only knew about football.

Speaker 4:

Aha.

Speaker 2:

Aha, don't place people in bubbles, aha.

Speaker 1:

People in boxes Hello.

Speaker 2:

Never in a box either.

Speaker 1:

Darling, you're physically right now in a box. You literally are?

Speaker 2:

I'm not actually.

Speaker 4:

Oh, with the hair flip, all right.

Speaker 1:

That's Blondica. You hear me that's Blondica, because she just switched it up. She got a little honey blonde, now Lamar and then Monty, and then I guess we'll end it.

Speaker 4:

I'm going to stay with the hometown. I really would like to see my Lions do something that they don't typically do as of late. I really want them to go after one of these elite pass rushers. They're going to have to give up something. I am football. Sorry to bring everybody back. I'm back on football. I need the Lions to get one of these elite pass rushers. I'm back on football. I need the Lions to get one of these elite pass rushers Miles, garrett, crosby, maybe Trey Henderson or Hendrickson Sorry, I really need them to give up some of them.

Speaker 4:

Picks to solidify that defensive line and then you know, and then continue to get. Excuse me, I just lost my thought to get to continue to build the secondary. But I think if we focus on that defensive line, do some good depth and get some more corners, I think we'll be all right. Um, I really feel that in my heart that we have to add a another elite person on that defensive line, because the eagles proved to you last night again if you got a stacked four, you can create crazy pressure and everybody else is that much better. Because the Eagles had two rookie cornerbacks that did not get beat on a single play, almost Because that defensive line just held it down. So we need to just get one of these elite pass rushers. So that's what I would like to see for next season.

Speaker 1:

And Monty, since we're resetting in the sake of good spirit and this is a righteous recall, they are called the Super Steelers, but you also have to forge this path where we can call, like, the Loyal Lions or something. Ok, so we're going to, we're going to forge this path where we can call it the loyal lions or something. We're going to try this, we're going to see how long it lasts. The super stealers and the loyal lions. Go ahead, manny, let's hear it.

Speaker 2:

I'm actually excited because we play each other this year here in Fort Field. I will be there, of course.

Speaker 2:

I'm going to sit on the lion with my Steelers outfit on. So real respectful, real respectful. I want to stand out. I want to be in a sea of blue with my Steelers, like this, just where we at, because it is both both hometowns at the same time. I really, really, really do hope that, lamar, you're right that you guys are able to double down on your defense, because when I looked at y'all who y'all play on next year this is the year y'all could have won Next year I don't think y'all really got a shot. This was y'all's year. Next year, 14 out of 17 of y'all games is straight beast mode that road games is rough.

Speaker 2:

Them role games is about to be buck wild If you have not seen what it's going to look like. Yes, you have to go, look at it.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, it's, it's sick.

Speaker 2:

14 out of the 17 games is going to be buck wild. Like I said, I really, really hope that they do double down on defense, that the team that they do have gets healthy. More than likely, this was the year that they could have won. Next year is going to be. If they don't double down on who they draft, they ain't going to have a chance.

Speaker 1:

I just have to take a pause and say this I appreciate everyone for doing this segment, but I also have to take a pause and say this I appreciate everyone for doing this segment, but I also have to say, if you can see this and Lamar can see this and G can see this, I hope that the people that pop can see this, cause I don't need us, not the other word, okay, I just, I just have, please, sorry, that's it Remain my composure. You know, call it back, but I do feel like this is a great season for all, players included. I know that some people did not. So hilarious my brain. I was like I don't care, such and such be such and such, and that's why the commandments got knocked down by the Chiefs. And then this person got knocked down and it was like the Eagles beat the Bills. I was like yeah, I was like yeah, so, anyway. So you know my brain don't be working. I'm like I don't know how the Eagles got here, but they apparently. You know I gotta bring the humor, but I want to tell you guys, thank you again.

Speaker 1:

This is not the end of Simply Sports, since we are going into a new season. We may have a new color. I don't know. I got to think about that. What say you guys? Should we keep it the Honolulu blue? Should we go red for the Red Wings? Should we go, like you know that, old green for the Pistons? Y'all know what I'm talking about. Or should we go like the Detroit white with the blue?

Speaker 2:

I mean, you can keep it as it is. It's still just going to be about sports and especially with the fact that the commissioner was just here from the NBA and talking about bringing the draft or all-star weekend to Detroit, I don't know if Detroit can handle an all-star game because the way the money gets flowing for that I don't know.

Speaker 1:

I just want a rich daddy, rich daddy, no, I just want a rich daddy, no one, gene Lamar, y'all can laugh. Anyway, me too, listen that part Me too.

Speaker 2:

I got one, I don't need another one.

Speaker 1:

You hear her, she don't need another one. Anyway, I hear she needs to slide her stuff in. I just don't need another one. Anyway, I hear exactly she's sliding her stuff. I just don't need another be sliding in like nobody can hear it.

Speaker 2:

okay, so, this is my actual daddy.

Speaker 1:

Don't do that no, no, man, that's not what you're talking about. Check out relationship realism. This has been simply sports with sgr gene lamar. Yeah, you can go ahead and laugh, monty, because you know the Rock, the Pasta.

Speaker 4:

I'm sorry. Before we wrap I have to say this Shout out to my Detroit Pistons and Cade Cunningham making an all-star team. We're going to incorporate the Pistons and the Lions and the Wings a little bit more. Y'all just wait, Y'all just wait. But shout out to Cade and the Pistons.

Speaker 1:

Well, all I want to say is next week's episode is the same time, so we can go ahead and draft up. Y'all know how to do a note. If I need to start a note, we have our group chat Aside from the co-host, with the most, because I feel like the other two be like they be there, but they don't be there, and I love him. I love him to death. What are we talking about? Y'all gonna say anything. You tell her about herself, okay, gene. You tell her about yourself.

Speaker 2:

Don't get him in trouble.

Speaker 4:

Don't do that. I know it.

Speaker 1:

That's my best friend. I knew her.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, she did, he did.

Speaker 1:

You called me a she. I still answer. As long as you couldn't stop me, I got to cut some steak and let you know. But anyway, this has been Simply Sports again with SGR, gene, lonnie and Lamar. I just want to tell you guys, thank you again and I look forward to next week's conversation about the sports and the basketball and the soccer and the hockey and all the different things. I do have a hockey friend. He's really big in Anopoly, but he was just like we can't talk about sports. We saw what happened when you talk about the Lions.

Speaker 4:

I was like I didn't even do the math. You're doing it right now, I ain't even doing the math.

Speaker 2:

He became a fan.

Speaker 4:

You got to cash some jerseys in my boy oh no, he bought a Broncos sweater.

Speaker 2:

Tell him to wear the Broncos stuff.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1:

I'm calling you out about your government. You disrespectful, because you told me to burn it. You told me to leave it, I did.

Speaker 2:

But I didn't bring a little energy to the Lions. I'm sorry.

Speaker 1:

You were a little hard.

Speaker 2:

You were a little intense.

Speaker 1:

You know what I'm going to say this in a calming voice so that my mic does not drown me out, because it does a great voice isolation. When I was watching in Colorado, the Lions beat whoever they did. They're not relevant, they beat them. I'm pretty sure it was the Vikings. Again, they beat the Vikings on the Thanksgiving. I fell asleep, but when I woke up it was like seconds left in that game.

Speaker 2:

You went to sleep, though, so you weren't actually watching.
