Wheaux & Housewives: The Real Housewives of Atlanta: New Blood, Old Drama
The Real Housewives of Atlanta returns with explosive energy in its Season 16 premiere, reshuffling the deck with a perfect blend of fan favorites and bold newcomers ready to make their mark.
Porsha Williams makes her triumphant homecoming to the franchise, bringing her trademark quotable moments and complicated relationship history. No stranger to controversy, Porsha quickly finds herself defending her marriage to Simon, who wed her just 17 days after finalizing his previous divorce—a fact new housewife Kelli (dubbed the "Queen of Waffles") wastes no time bringing to light. The directness of these confrontations sets Atlanta apart from other franchises, with shade-throwing and "reading" happening face-to-face rather than behind backs.
Bizarre living arrangements, astronomical wealth displays, and simmering tensions dominate this premiere. Drew Sidora reveals her strange basement-dwelling husband situation, where Ralph lives downstairs while she must vacate the house on certain days. Meanwhile, Shamea's birthday celebration becomes the talk of Atlanta when her HVAC entrepreneur husband gifts her a half-million dollar Rolls Royce, leaving everyone—both cast and viewers—stunned at the extravagant gesture.
The episode also teases future drama with the anticipated return of Phaedra Parks and notable absence of Kenya Moore, allegedly due to behind-the-scenes tension with newcomer Brit. With legacy housewives establishing their territory and newcomers refusing to back down, Season 16 promises to deliver the authentic reactions, genuine conflicts, and laugh-out-loud moments that have made Atlanta the gold standard of the Housewives universe.

so welcome to who's the housewives. It's your boy, sgr, and your girl, steph, who is the queen of waffles because of kelly. Did you, did, you, did, you did. You feel the most at home with kelly because you know none of the women I didn't know who to feel at home with.
Speaker 2:They were a lot different than our Beverly Hills housewives and I was just like dang like the whole episode. I at one point cause I was working out like while watching the episode and I was talking and people were like looking at me because I was just like oh my God, oh my God, the whole time- so I look crazy, it's great so, um, you know, I'm gonna go ahead and give you a little bit of throwback so that you can kind of, so you can kind of get it.
Speaker 1:um, cynthia, believe it or not, is a friend of the show, but she was the oldest housewife on here.
Speaker 2:Okay, she's married to Charles right.
Speaker 1:Listen, Cynthia ain't married to Charles. Listen, Charles Oakley is somebody else, it don't matter, I'm gonna catch you up. Okay, I'm gonna catch you up. Angela Oakley keeps talking about and I'm just like Angela, if that's gonna be your claim to frame, let it go.
Speaker 1:But, before we get into the tea, because you know we don't get into the tea. Then you had Portia, and Kenya started in the same situation. Now what I will tell you is Kenya was supposed to be on this season but she kind of got like unwritten off, she kind of lost her peach. We'll get into that a little bit later. There was a little bit of snafu, a little bit of pics and so on and so forth. And yeah, yeah, the reason why I'm wearing purple is because King is from Detroit. Can't wait until that drama unfolds. I got some stuff for you in the future. I'm sorry, I'm serious, because this is the one that, like, I watched Before I got into Beverly Hills. It was always Atlanta, but what happened was After Nene Leakes kind of left it kind of just like, and they tried, they tried so hard, so they did a whole rip and replace, brought back some of our faves, like what made Portia so great Was her quotes so quotable.
Speaker 1:Quote number one there are people Out here that are hungry 265 days a year. And then Nini says where does bitch live at? Because she can't be. Earth has got to be ours. Now, what makes Porsche also unique is that she is Hosea Williams' granddaughter, who was a big civil rights woman. Oh Lord, they went to like a trip and then they were talking about the Underground Railroad. Now I have to ask you real quick, before we get into the episode. You know the Underground Railroad was not electric, right? Okay, I lost your audio. I lost your audio. I lost your audio. Hello, yes, but she did. She was just like but there has to be electric, like how did the train think? They was like what so, portia?
Speaker 1:she's special well, she, she's overcome a lot of adversity, like on some real stuff. She was married, she got a divorce, got burned he was just messy Cordell, he was a football player and she got married again to this guy who you kind of learned a little bit about. What did you, what did you take from her divorce, and so on and so forth, what did you?
Speaker 2:yeah, so I'm going to be honest, I was just trying to like learn people's names a little bit. Um. So I remember portia. They talked about her in the beginning, I don't really remember I'm so sorry, I don't really remember I'm so sorry I don't really remember them talking about her divorce, did they?
Speaker 1:I can help you out. So she was married to Simon and the shady question that happened towards the end of the episode. Do you remember? Like how?
Speaker 2:Like Drew was like with Simon at some point, or like Drew and Portia were friends at some point, and then and like something about wigs natural wigs or something. I'm killing it right.
Speaker 1:I'm going to help you. I'm going to help you. So the wig was that Angela Oakley's wig was bubbling up because it was a little hot outside and it was outside and white party. It was Shamia's birthday party and in my opinion, shamia looked fabulous. My question for you, because I usually you know get asked.
Speaker 2:I'm saying that Portia met, drew on. I thought they were doing like something with her wig line or something.
Speaker 1:Go naked. There's a whole list and there's a whole naked yeah that was it. There's a whole bunch of things that these housewives then did in this segment, but I do have to ask you a question how would you feel if I showed up to your birthday party late and he was getting a big gift?
Speaker 2:I would never get a Rolls Royce like that. That I mean, that car was half a million dollars. That was the part point. Point at the gym where I was like talking out loud, I was like, oh my god, um, but I I'd say I'm probably, I'd probably be like kind of pissed but I'd also understand, but I, I, I'm not one of these ladies well, the funniest part is I'd be pissed because, like, don't come to my birthday and then walk up to the car, as I appreciate the new ladies.
Speaker 1:So we got again Britt, angela, oakley and Kelly. I appreciate the new ladies because they are standing their ground and they're clapping back and fighting back. Another question I have for you is if we are doing a friend group. Another question I have for you is if we're doing a friend group. And it was kind of messed up because Simon, who Portia married, was married to another woman named Fallon. Simon and Fallon were separated after the divorce was finalized 17 later. 17 days later, portia got married to Simon.
Speaker 2:So that's why, kelly, they were kind of, was that like Okay, so at one point somebody threw some shade it might have been Kelly or Brittany, it was Kelly. It was Kelly and they were talking about she stole that woman's man or whatever. They were talking about. Portia right, I got some of it.
Speaker 1:I just said I met his husband. I was like and so what made this shady in my in like the best layer of shade? Okay, do you know? There's this thing reading and shading, or no?
Speaker 2:The difference between being shady and shady.
Speaker 1:Sorry, shading someone and reading someone.
Speaker 2:Well, reading someone is like reading behavior and shading someone is talking.
Speaker 1:Smack about them yes, but typically when you read someone, you do it in front of them. So I could be up to like, oh, you just got from the gym and you look like a sweaty mess that's reading you. But shady would be up there like, yeah, she just got from the gym and she looked like a shady mess. Oh, hey, that's what it is, shady. So it comes from the gay community. Atlanta ran it up, then all the other housewives kind of ran it up. But my point of what I'm about to say that's going to crack you up was I did not expect Kelly to just be so forthcoming and just say it again Hi, why you said I'm his husband.
Speaker 2:I mean why you say that man's husband. I did kind of like Kelly.
Speaker 1:That's why your quote is the queen of waffles, huh.
Speaker 2:Queen of waffles.
Speaker 1:She was just like no, I'm not. And then Portia was just like, because Portia's been on this, Portia's dealt with this, Portia's had these conversations. Like I'm not doing this, like she's had these conversations. Like I'm not doing this, like I don't even not even subscribe to it. Now, what's a little messy, and like everyone has a storyline. This season, drew Sedora Is a artist and she's a mother and she was Married to this gentleman named Ralph Pittman. Now I will be honest with you. Okay, gotta say this Ralph is up there with Maurizio. In my opinion, it's like Maurizio Ralph. I don't care if Apollo is Apollo. I always thought Apollo was handsome because a lot of the husbands don't be like, and it's not because they're light-skinned or anything, it's just like the aesthetic and the personality. Now Ralph is a jerk, he is the biggest jerk and he's mean and he's rude and so on and so forth. And you saw he was in the basement. I'm like, bro, what is this? This cannot be reality.
Speaker 2:Like he has to stay in the basement and she has to leave the house every like one, three, five. I don't even know. It was weird, it was really weird.
Speaker 1:I thought it was and I was like I don't know. Go check downstairs. That was on, was it not?
Speaker 2:It was something man.
Speaker 1:Well, I mean, do you feel like I know you don't know anything? You're 16 seasons too late. But did you like the shade? Did you like the drama? Did you like the opulence? Did it give you anti-Beverly Hillsence? Did it give you like anti-beverly hills? Did it give you like I don't know, it didn't make any sense?
Speaker 2:I feel like some of the shade on beverly hills, especially now that rena's not there is kind of tame and I felt like this was really just in your face, like everybody's ready to own it.
Speaker 1:We're all owning it. Well, obviously, and it was just to me. It's one of those type of situations like there's never a dull moment with the R H O A cast. There's always something that somebody's gonna say and, like Kenya was always a mainstay. Kenya is very direct and very honest. She had to find her way. She went through a whole situation with a husband named Mark, got a divorce. I'm so happy she was able to have her kid named Brooklyn, but Mark was a weirdo, and that's all I got to say.
Speaker 1:Like he was a weirdo, well, it's because he never called her Kenya, he called her Ken, ken. Okay, ken, calm down. And like, when he said that to her she apparently would like, oh, I like her better, because you know she can't. This is the last season. He was like, okay, ken, okay, mark, ken, ken, ken, shutting her down. It was just like, wow, like Ken didn't feel like herself and she was trying to stay in it. For a lot of these women and again, this is just my opinion Like Cynthia said this, cynthia, as well as Portia, and you know, they want what they want, they want to be with what they want, they want to be in long lasting relationships and so on and so forth. But not even trying to be funny, but we got two housewives actual housewives, not saying actual, but two married folk on this season, out of what six or seven. So it's like it tells you that this is not. This franchise does not flourish relationships. I don't care what nobody says, it always divides them.
Speaker 2:You come to housewives to get a divorce. Basically, that's what it is.
Speaker 1:But you do. And so other high points I have to tell you. Could you believe that that man has all that from HVAC and airports? I was in the wrong business. I should have been installing HVACs and airports to me as husband. When she said that I was like I should have been installing HVACs in airports, Shamia's husband Like, when she said that I was like, oh, you probably walked in, it Walked in it.
Speaker 2:Yeah, you probably walked into my man. Shamia has like an elevator in her house.
Speaker 1:It has an elevator in her house. She has a Rolls Royce that is literally $430 million or $1,000.
Speaker 1:But it's a half a mil, it's like wild, and I do have to say that this is so horrible. I hope that Britt's voice is not that way permanently, because I was like it's like a vocal fry but a nasal fry and I'm like I don't know how much more I'm going to be able to listen to you talk, because you're losing me and that's just that. Sounds so horrible to say that, but like I'm like, is she doing this on purpose? Please tell me. It's just a deviated symptom. Please tell me it's a deviated symptom. That's what I'm thinking Like, she's like, and I'm thinking like she's like, and I'm just like your storyline is not gonna be interesting to me, but like episode one it is, but it's just it.
Speaker 1:Oh, so many things that we have to talk about for the season I. I want to do a little bit more in the future with these episodes for the R-H-O-A, or ROA, as they like to call it, so that you know I can write down my questions and give them to you, because I feel like my questions are kind of all over the place, as I am. But who is your favorite so far?
Speaker 2:So I liked Kelly, okay. I liked Portia, okay, and I guess Shmia is pretty cool, is that how you say your?
Speaker 1:name Shmia.
Speaker 2:Shmia sorry you're good.
Speaker 1:It's not like you know, these people shoot, we learning, you learning them. So that's kind of like.
Speaker 2:I don't really feel like, like I said, I was just trying to like, I tried to watch it twice, but I didn't make it so. I'm just trying to like learn who they are. It's hard for me to like have, I guess, like a favorite. I did like Portia. She seemed okay and I might eat. Eat my words, so we'll see.
Speaker 1:You might eat your words, but I think that you're living them and you know I kind of low key, want to throw something on the screen if it's possible. Are you okay with that?
Speaker 2:Totally.
Speaker 1:Okay, I'm going to kind of see if I can do it properly. Boop, okay, that's good, and then we're going to throw this here. So I kind of want to give you the rundown of the people so that you understand a little bit. Okay, so that you understand a little bit. Okay, so we're going to go in the center because, you know, shamia is the center of all of these people. Okay, she knows everyone, she's connected to everyone. So we know Shamia, britt and Kelly are close friends. The reason why King ain't on here is because of Britt, but we're going to get into that later. Angela is friends with Drew, but Angela is married to Mr Oakley, charles Oakley, who'd been in the Bulls, and he's NBA legend and royalty and I'm just like Wasn't he in Space Jam?
Speaker 1:Possibly Like what no listen, listen.
Speaker 2:I feel like he might have been in Space Jam.
Speaker 1:Charles Oakley.
Speaker 2:I'm going to be embarrassed if it wasn't him. Oh my God, I'm going to kill myself.
Speaker 1:Well, I mean, I Googled it, let's see, let's see, let's see Bill Murray, larry, I mean, I don't know, I don't know. Oh yeah, he was one of the basketball players he was. He was probably on the terrace, he was actually.
Speaker 2:I'm killing it, killing it over here, oh come on.
Speaker 1:So, drew, they have friends and business associates. So go neck and hair. You were right about that. Shamia and Drew, former co stars, shamia and Portia best friends. Cynthia is now a friend of the show Anytime. You're a friend of the show. You're basically like a Jennifer Tilly like you there, a Kathy, you there, but you ain't got to be there, you're not obligated. And Phaedra. So what I will tell you is the three to the upper left. So we have Portia, phaedra and Cynthia Housewide Legacy.
Speaker 1:Only thing you would need to drop in here is Candy, kenya and Nini, and that would be the old seasons. Now what I will tell you is this is a side segue to catch you up, to make it make sense Candy Burris you may not know who Candy is, but you know all her music. She's very much a producer. There's a lot of songs she'd have been on. I'm like dang Kandi was in that and she was. She's talented. I will say that she's very creative and she her drop the G and basically they were all like in her comments and saying that she was Bill Cosby not her, but Candy, and so this is not funny. So she goes. I want to turn it to my attorney, because Faye's just an attorney and let her talk.
Speaker 1:You said that and it was just. This was on the reunion and it was bad it was. There was also a time where Kinga did bring props to the stage and used the bullhorn and was like shut up, you dumb whore. And like did that to Portia? Portia literally swats. When I say swats, I mean swats to grab that out. Cynthia does a Janet Jackson and I think you know what I mean, and Portia had Kenya by the hair and it was dragging her all. I can barely hear you. I can barely hear you. You said what? No, say it, come closer.
Speaker 2:No, nothing, it just. I remember some girls talking about losing their boobs and I wonder if that's what they were alluding to, because literally, literally, uh.
Speaker 1:but what I will tell you is, when phager joins the season, because she was on mary's medicine, she decided to, uh, leave that franchise and come back to the Housewives. It's just going to be some mess. So I want to tell you you are in for a treat for this season. I promise you you're going to be shocked and amazed. That's all I got to say. I can't say much more. I'm happy to continuously spread this out to other franchises. Maybe we'll watch Southern Charm together. Maybe we'll talk about Can we?
Speaker 2:Who's in? Housewives encompasses all.
Speaker 1:Bravo topics. We talk about that often. I'm glad that you gave it a watch. I did.
Speaker 2:You know what I really liked it. It kept my attention. I've tried, I tried to watch. I think I tried to watch potomac or maybe I don't remember what franchise I was trying to watch, but it it. It wasn't giving initially, so like I was having a hard time investing in these characters, but Atlanta seems nuts.
Speaker 1:The reason why it seems nuts is because they had to recast, they had to redo, they had to do a whole bunch of stuff, a lot of the storylines before. So we had Marlo who was very much like a friend of the show for a very long time. Now Sheree probably holds the record. Sheree Whitfield holds the record for being invited and then uninvited.
Speaker 2:You got Sheree she be gone.
Speaker 1:She gone, Baby. They invite her and they're like no, no, your papers are gone, Bye-bye, See you later, no more, we don't need you anymore. But they had to rip and replace some people and I feel like, if you're not giving the drama, you're not giving like a lot of the storylines get dry and tired. That's what I'm gonna tell you. And Sheree was dating a gentleman who was in jail and it was just he couldn't be on camera because he didn't want to be on camera. Had her sitting outside of a restaurant for like an hour and a half waiting, Then calls her like I can't be there. I'm like I would be pissed. But again, drama TV shows blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. But yeah, I'm so glad that you watched season 16's first episode of the Real Housewives of Atlanta and will you come back again and watch another episode?
Speaker 2:Of course I would love to. I would like to have the opportunity to watch the episode more than once, just so I can be more helpful.
Speaker 1:So I can participate. I'm going to write down the questions for this segment so that I can ask you, because I feel like you do a lot of work on the Beverly Hills. I feel like it would only be right to take over for the Real Housewives of Atlanta.
Speaker 2:Okay, Is that a fair choice? That sounds fair.
Speaker 1:This has been SGR and we will see you guys later. Thanks again for joining us for who's in Housewives.
Speaker 2:Bye now.
