Why Sales Feel So Unsteady

Hey, welcome to the Ally D Show. This is gonna be a good one. Okay, I'm really excited to talk to you today about three things you need to be focusing on if you feel like your sales are super inconsistent, or you feel like your social media is totally blahskies, no one's paying attention, no one's listening, and you really haven't figured out how to actually generate consistent sales selling online. And a lot of you sell great in person, I hear that all the time, but when it comes to selling online, it just feels super uncomfortable, super awkward, super cringe, or it doesn't feel cringe, you just can't figure out how to actually do it. And you're wondering, you're looking around, you're wondering, "Why are other people-- How are other people getting consistent online sales and I'm not?" Okay, so this episode is gonna lay out everything you need to focus on, the top three things right now you need to spend time on in your business figuring out if you wanna get consistent sales. 'Cause if you don't look at these three things, and you are out there chasing a million, zillion other things because they, they feel shiny and cool and fun... I'm sorry, shiny, cool, and fun doesn't pay the bills, doesn't make you rich, and we want you to have a very happy, healthy business. We want you to feel fulfilled. I want you to feel fulfilled. I want you to feel like this is something that you just love waking up every single morning doing, and y- you know, we get to do this, right? We get to be entrepreneurs. Is it hard? Yes. Do you wanna scream and cry on the bathroom floor sometimes? Yes. That is normal, too. But once you have these three things figured out, everything does start coming together. I just want you to hear me say that. When you work on these three things, everything will come together. There's no way that it won't. But if you keep getting sidetracked or you don't p- put enough energy on these activities, you will not see the results, okay?

Get Clear On Your Customer

So the first thing I wanna talk about is, number one is your customer. This day and age, you have got to get very, very, very clear on who your customer is. Why? This is not just a marketing thing, okay? The reason why is because there are way more businesses online selling now than there ever has been, which is really hard for a lot of people to crack the code on, and it's why people will say, "Oh, it's oversaturated," or, you know, "There's too many people selling all the same thing," and blah, blah, blah. Like, literally none of that matters. The reason why it feels like that is because nobody has figured out how to market to their ideal customer. And once you figure this part out, it-- like, other people don't even matter. Like, you could-- Like, the competition does not even matter at all, literally, because you are so zoned in and focused on your customers, and your customers are so zoned in and focused on you, that it literally does not matter. Think about how many people online are selling, like, sweatshirts and, like, that's their whole brand, but they're still selling out drops of sweatshirts, the most common thing possible. And the reason why they're doing that is not because it's a sweatshirt, it's because they have figured out who their customers are, and all of their marketing speaks to that person, which then cuts through the noise of people saying, "Oh, sweatshirts is oversaturated." Listen, I can sell sweatshirts and T-shirts all day long, and there is a million sweatshirts and T-shirts company out there... companies out there, and a lot of them who are not getting sales and are not seeing success, and they're wondering what the missing piece is. It's because they're just speaking to too many people. They haven't honed in on exactly who their customer is. So that's the first thing you've gotta figure out. This is what's gonna make you stand out, right? Because if you don't do this, you're just going to blend in with everybody else. It's almost like picture yourself in a big, giant room, a- and you're trying to get everybody's attention, right, but everybody's just talking. They're looking at their phones. They're eating their little hors d'oeuvres. They're drinking their champagne. Like, no one's paying attention to you. You can yell and yell and yell, and no one's gonna pay attention to you. The way that you would get an entire room of people to pay attention to you is to get on, like, a 10-foot ladder, stand on top of it, get a bullhorn, and scream your message, and then people are gonna look and go, "Oh, I see them. I see what she's saying," because you've risen above the masses. If you're just hanging out with the masses, no one's gonna notice you. So the, the way you reach your people so they actually see you in the first place is you gotta stand up on that ladder, and you gotta call out to them. Otherwise, they're never gonna even know you exist, okay? And so anyone who's selling anything online and, and successful at it understands that this is the first and foremost thing that you must fix, okay? You've got to speak to your ideal customer. You have to get specific. I talk to you guys all the time about this 'cause this is literally the foundation of building a successful business in any market. I don't care if you're in retail. I don't care if you're in services. It doesn't matter who. The more specific you are, the more money you make, and anyone who says otherwise is totally dumb, and they... and it's not true, okay? I mean, listen, I don't wanna say you're totally dumb, but you... it's the, it's the reality. Okay, I'm trying to be nice here, but that's the reality, right? It is a dumb thing to say that niching down does not make you more money because the niches, the riches are in the niches, right? That term was coined for a reason. This is how you get unbelievably successful and make unbelievable sales. It's by focusing on things like this, okay, your customer, first and foremost. So that is the first thing I wanna talk about.

Build Content That Actually Sells

The second thing is you've got to really understand that content is king. No longer can you fight the idea of creating content every single day, okay? This is a must-do for your business. So you might as well just submit to it and go, "You know what? If I wanna sell products online, I have to commit to the process of what it takes to learn how to create good content." Because crappy content, or content that's just wishy-washy, or content that everybody else is doing, or what these Instagram gals tell you to do, like, "Oh, here's my, like, download my 10 viral hooks," blah, blah, blah, all that stuff, right? We've all been victim to that. That is not how you sell products online. That is not how you reach your customers. Could you use one of those hooks and possibly go viral? Sure. So you get a million views and no one buys. Who cares? So you get random c- random followers that are never gonna buy from you. Who cares? We don't care about that as business owners. Like, we want direct links to the people who are gonna buy from us the most. So you have to start thinking about your content in a totally different way. It's not just, how do I get a lot of people to watch my content? It's, how do I get the right people to see my content to then feel so connected to it they wanna buy from me? This is a whole different level, and it's what so many people skip. Literally, this is the entire thing when it comes to people finding you, and people buying from you, and then becoming obsessed with your business. So much so that they tell their friends, they share your, your content. Like, they actually share your content, right, to their feed. They get excited when you release something new. They're first to, to, to wanna know about your drops and your new releases, and they'll show up for you in person. It's because you're creating content that has spoken to them on a deeper, more emotional level, and it's not, "Here's, like, me doing the funny viral thing." Like, how... That's not gonna speak to anybody on a deeper emotional level, right? So if you're gonna be spending your time creating content anyways every day or every other day, whatever, you know, your content creation schedule looks like, why not focus our effort on creating the right type of content that's actually gonna get you sales? This is the whole thing. By the way, I wrote all of this down in a free doc for you, a free Google Doc. Um, the way that... I'll... L- listen, I'll drop the link in the show notes, but if you're listening to this and you want access to this free doc, it's gonna be game-changing. Um, all you have to do is, uh, e- just DM me on Instagram, ally.d.ceo, and let me know you want the free content doc. Or, on any of my Reels, if you just comment the word content, it will automatically DM you the link to get this free download. And this is where I wrote down everything about this concept and why it matters so much Okay? Content is, is everything. I cannot reiterate that enough. And what I don't want you to do, and I see this happen to so many people and so many businesses, is they post and post and post, and they don't get results. And they get tired and exhausted, and they just think, "Ugh, I'm not cut out for this. This is not meant for me. Maybe I can't figure out how to sell online. Maybe I'm never gonna be successful in this era like her or them or whatever." And you get to comparing yourself, and you end up just so frustrated that you're like, "I don't know if I can do this." I'm telling you, it's very simple. It is so much more simple than all the ways that people are trying to teach you or sell you. It is not about trying to copy some other people's things that are, like, going viral or whatever. It's about you creating content that connects with your customer on a deeper level, which is actually so easy because you are most likely your ideal customer, and the things that make you happy, make you laugh, make you feel something, hit your emotional core, also hit theirs. So it's so much easier than trying to just pull followers and content out of thin air. Like, you do not have to do that. You do not have to wake up every day and go, "What am I gonna post today to get sales?" There is a real content strategy you can start implementing immediately that is going to teach you exactly how to do this. Some of you have already been in my programs. You know what this is, and it's like you go from feeling totally invisible to all of a sudden you're getting engagement, you're getting people excited about your brand, and then you're getting sales, consistent sales every single day. This is the formula. You've gotta have a content strategy in order to make this happen, okay? So, we talked about our customers as something that's massively important, and then our content, obviously, is massively important.

Sell More With Real Sales Streams

And then the third thing we gotta do is, you guys, you gotta sell more. Okay? Sell more in different ways than you're used to selling or showing up selling. So many people think that the only way to sell online is to talk about their products in their content. And what you know if you're in my world, if you've been following this podcast, is that that's not how you move products. You can't just talk about your products 24/7 on your social media and think that that's how you're gonna get a lot of sales. Most of you are doing this, and you're not getting consistent sales. So what you need to do is instead, you almost have to, like, separate what's going on in your, in your business into sales streams, and you have to nurture every single sales stream like it is the most important thing in the entire world for your business. A lot of you are off doing a zillion other things instead of nurturing your sales streams. Like you, like what takes precedence for you is making sure, you know, the new inventory is, um, steamed over actually making sure you're selling that day, right? And like both things need to get done, but your sales comes first always. And so many of you put your sales at the back burner, and I think it's because it's the most uncomfortable thing for you to do online. It feels uncomfortable, whether you wanna admit it or not. Sending out emails feels uncomfortable. Showing up live feels uncomfortable. Selling on your stories feels uncomfortable, right? All of these things feel uncomfortable, so it gets pushed to the back burner 'cause it's so much easier for you to do the things you're already comfortable with doing. So you're gonna show up and do those first in your business. I want you to flip that in your schedule. In the morning, I want you to wake up, and before you get into any of the other rigmarole, I want you to work on selling your products. Show up for your sales streams. So the cool thing about having an online business is you get to decide what your sales streams are based on your skills, right? So if you're someone that, like, really loves going live, that can be a sales stream for you. If you're someone that really loves, um, I don't know, TikTok Live, which is a whole different animal than like a Facebook Live, that could be a sales stream for you, right? Your, um, Instagram stories, your email marketing, and all the different automations and weekly emails, that's all sales streams. But the, the, the hard things are the things people ignore because believe it or not, it's easier to like follow some guru on Instagram and think that going viral is gonna save you than actually doing the real business work, and that's why everybody always defaults to that. Nobody wants to do the really hard work because it is hard work. And it's not even that like you're scared of hard work. It's just, it just feels like, ugh, I don't know. It's too much, right? It's too much to learn how to do emails and all the automations I need and my abandoned cart email series and my welcome flow, my post-purchase flow, but these are the things that make you money. So instead of just like, like I said, looking at the Instagram gals out there that are selling you these quick fixes, there is no quick fix when it comes to a product-based business. You've gotta do the work. You've got to do all the work. And part of that is knowing that you've got to show up and sell. You have to have a sales strategy. So I always-- it's like the, the magic three, right? You have to have a strategy to figure out your customer base. You have to have a strategy to get your content to your customer base. And you have to have a strategy that's going to get you sales, that's gonna be set up to work for you every day, every week, every month. And this is where you break down what are the sales streams that I wanna focus on as a business owner, and you go all in on just a couple of those to start until you actually see results. 'Cause what happens is a lot of you pick a lot of sales streams, like you wanna do all the things, right? And it's all over the place. You don't get results like that. You need to focus on just a couple of things. So for you, maybe it's like, "Okay, I'm gonna go live every week. I'm gonna do, um, at least two pop-up shops, in-person pop-up shops a month. I'm going to, um, focus on sending three to four emails per week. I'm going to sell five to ten times in my Instagram Stories every single day. I'm going to make sure at least one post that I have per day on my Facebook is, um, talking more about the, uh, benefits of the product and relating it to my ideal customer and linking it and making sure I'm doing real solid calls to action." Right? Like, all this stuff needs to happen. And this magic three, when you focus on your content, you focus on your customers, you focus on your sales strategy, this is where you make money. And that's the whole point of this, right? We're not here running hobbies. We're not here just trying to grow our closets full of all kinds of random stuff or our homes with all kinds of random stuff. We are here to make money. I want you to make money, and a lot of it. I want you to make money where you're like, "Oh, my gosh, I'm making thousands and thousands of dollars every month. This is so fun. I get to take my kids on vacation. I get to buy my vacation home. I get to go to Disney. I get to retire my mom so she can come work in the warehouse," whatever it is. Like, you can get there. But if you don't focus on these big three, it's not gonna happen.

The Big Three And Next Steps

That's just the cold, hard truth. So customers, content, sales. Again, if you want help with the content, download my free doc, because I, I go in depth more on the psychology of this, which is what you need to understand. You need to understand the why and the psychology behind this, and then how to actually implement it, okay? So again, just check the show, the, the show description. I'll put the link there for this episode. But also, if you want the link to my free content doc, all you have to do is just DM me on Instagram or comment on any of my reels on Instagram the word "content," and it will immediately send you a DM with a link to download this doc. Oh, okay, this was a juicy episode. I told you it was gonna be juicy. It was a really, really good one. So I hope you all have really, really listened to this and took it to heart. Listen to this episode again and again. And whenever you get scatterbrained, and you're out there in your business, and you're like, "I don't know what to do. I don't know how to make this thing work," it goes back to these three, okay? Check yourself on your customers, check yourself on your content, check yourself on your sales strategy. When you have all three of these locked in and lined up, oh my gosh, you guys, the world is your oyster, and I just cannot wait for that to happen for you
