G'day everyone, welcome back to another and probably the final episode of Shed Beers for a While. I'm Joe H.
SPEAKER_03I'm Summers, half bucket.
SPEAKER_04I'm Henry. He's embracing it. And what was Christian Cullen's nickname, which referred to his hometown?
SPEAKER_02The Kiwis are gonna hate me about this. Uh yeah, I don't know. I have no clue.
SPEAKER_04Okay, the Kiwis are gonna hate me for this. Pakarakariki Express? I don't know how to say that word. So if you haven't guessed everybody, we're drinking spikes. Hi Kakakariki Express. There's no way.
SPEAKER_03Oh, the really long. The really long. I can't I can't.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, there's a stomach to it. Yeah. No, so we're we're on the spates. We've got the spates. The old uh I don't know how to diplomatically say this on the podcast, but the old uh squirt juice word definitely is for George.
SPEAKER_03Squirt juice, that's disgusting, but that's come on, fuck it. Um no, obviously the last time I had these um was the first time I had them. And um I don't know, they just gave me gave me they gave me the beefies. But the next day I just had like a bad bat I just had tummy ache, basically. I don't know why, but um anyway. Uh farming.
SPEAKER_04That's that's the farming and not your bow move. Although someone did comment on the uh on that episode saying that uh because we discussed how we'd junk the spates, yeah, not not on not on a podcast. Yeah. And yeah, they did say that you could shoot through the eye of an eater from 20 yards. No, yeah, yeah, yeah. It's very funny. Um but no, we're back. We uh most likely will not be around for a little while, so anticipate that.
SPEAKER_03Last one before seeding, probably. All going well, we won't have time to do anything.
SPEAKER_04That's the plan. Um so yeah, this will this episode will come out on Easter Sunday, Easter Monday.
SPEAKER_03So Happy Easter, everyone. Yeah, happy Easter.
SPEAKER_04Happy Easter. Hope you had a safe Easter. Now, if you're uh you're at home and you're just chilling, grab yourself a beer and I don't care if it's eight o'clock in the morning, go grab yourself a beer and watch along. Actually, this comes out at twelve a twelve twelve. So I think twelve o'clock, it's five o'clock somewhere. Exactly. Uh 12 o'clock, you can have beers at lunchtime, so yeah, lunchtime beer. Nice. Well, while you guys uh listen to this, we'll be hopefully seeding, that's the plan. So we're gonna fire up on uh on Monday and see how we go.
SPEAKER_02But yeah, yeah, should be good. Once George has done servicing his machine.
SPEAKER_03Oh yeah, I've got a service racks. Change the filters, change the oil.
SPEAKER_04I'm so annoyed you forgot that because there have been so many times today where we're like you just been around.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it would have been an ideal day today to do it. And John knew about this. Uh I didn't write it on my notes. Yes, did I? I forgot to get the filters, so uh Monday morning we'll be doing that. And uh that's pretty much all we've got left still on Cedar.
SPEAKER_04It is, yep. Cedar is ready to go. It's taken us a little while, but I mean we went slow because we decided not to go over Easter.
SPEAKER_03Oh yeah. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, so there's no rush to get it. But I reckon we do it properly. Yeah, I reckon it was good having the time. I think we've done everything properly and it's good.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, we uh I think the main thing that was sort of holding us back was the uh velocity. So that only got delivered end of last week. But then we were needing to treat that with uh on top, so Cosmos, albatross, some sort of tross. I'm sure I'm sure th those are the only two brand names I know. Yeah. But uh yeah, uh we we traded that on top, so four later's uh a uh ton of that. And that will hopefully get protected against the uh army of I guess weevils that maybe you guys are flea beetles here. I don't know what you call flea beetles, but slayers, but it's um we've got a huge amount of uh earwigs. Earwigs. Oh yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, nasty down there.
SPEAKER_04Earwigs will decimate a canola crop. So uh we had to treat that and make sure that that was uh yeah, that was all good.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Oh cool. I remember my first year here, the earwigs were so bad. Like uh Well, they still are. Oh yeah, but won't because we had so many bags on the ground, it was uh harvest 22.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I'm pretty sure it was that year that uh we decided to do the outside lap in Hatton's bet uh Hatton's front, and we could see our bin crawling. Yeah, that was horrible. That was yeah.
SPEAKER_03There were so many, there was like millions. It was the smell, it smelled like fish unraveling this bag to put the debag on, and there's like a million there, and it just so you're not even exaggerating too like disgusting.
SPEAKER_04There were millions.
SPEAKER_03That was horrid.
SPEAKER_04Someone kicked out you had a burn ass drinking. Bad time. Someone had to do that.
SPEAKER_03Uh but yeah, no, the seed is all ready to go. Um, we've got all of our seed now, which is good.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, yep, so it's all traded. Uh, how fun was that? You guys enjoy that? Was that was that good?
SPEAKER_02Uh I mean the worst part was just debagging it. Yeah, no, the rest was actually fine. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_04Three three ton and twenty kilo bags. Yeah, yeah. Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_02But to be fair, it's better than lugging it up, even just that half half ladder.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, we didn't say that. It means we don't have to carry it, do it on the banner, I think.
SPEAKER_04Um what else have we done? We got the well, we got the little chemical transfer pump. That's all sorted, ready to go. So that's pretty cool.
SPEAKER_02Looks like it should work pretty well.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, so we just got a little uh little 61 litre a minute air operated chemical transfer pump, just a diaphragm transfer pump. And uh that's gonna suck the ZMC and the flutrifoil. What else? Uh cruiser opposite. Cruiser, yeah. Uh and the uniform. Uh so yeah, that'll be uh yeah, I'm excited to see that go because I mean when in water, which obviously is the most viscous, it uh but the ZMC is pretty viscous too.
SPEAKER_02So which is good because that's the one that's what 270 litres of that, that's yeah the bulk of what you're actually pumping.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it's gonna take a while. Yeah. That's why I've got it pumped into the side of the tank. So even if even if the uh flex end fills up, you still just keep that going. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Easy as. Nice. And then I'll definitely be pinching that for the well, maybe George will be pinching it. For the fence line spraying. Yes. Because that'd be very handy.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, we definitely should just drill it into the s another thing on the side of the fence line sprayer. Yeah. I don't know. No, trust me.
SPEAKER_03I've never done it.
SPEAKER_04Not having to decant chemicals.
SPEAKER_03What time of year do you do fence line spraying?
SPEAKER_04Uh when are you back?
SPEAKER_03Midwinter.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it will we'll be about exactly when you get back, probably. It's about when you get Sunday. Not Sunday. No, it's alright.
SPEAKER_04Uh so it depends on how how green it gets. Sometimes we have to do it twice, so we'll do one maybe about that June. Yeah. And then, but typically it's around August.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_03No worries. We'll get that done. I'm sure it'll be nicer than spreading gypsum.
SPEAKER_04Of course, you're in Ben. You got bloody.
SPEAKER_03You'd have to fill it in a luxury. Yeah. Yeah. That'll be alright.
SPEAKER_04Now you've got to fill up like what? Once every twice a day with the fence line spar? Three times a time.
SPEAKER_02I was doing four times. Yeah. So I was doing twice.
SPEAKER_04Maybe I'm not doing it as maybe I'm I'm not going as quick as Henry. I don't know. Henry screws it at 1.30, done the side of this money.
SPEAKER_03The pump is just Oh, but no. Anyway. Um.
SPEAKER_01I mean you can keep talking, but uh I don't know anything about fight-size spraying.
SPEAKER_02It's a very cruisy job. Like you're just sitting, especially like you said, in in Ben, it's just sitting Ben all day and just it's better than Bill. Yeah, yeah. I haven't touched wood. I can wear some. Uh haven't got Ben stuck yet, whereas Bill, I've got stuck a few times.
SPEAKER_03See. Yeah. I will not be getting anything stuck. Oh big call. Drawing seeding. Oh, it's still better, still a big call. That's still a big call. Anything I'm pretty good, me. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04I know. Yeah. You have not towed that bar yet. No, I haven't.
SPEAKER_02But uh I'm excited. And we're meant to be getting rain this weekend, ready for you to go and do Hatton's front. So what paddock are we starting in?
SPEAKER_04SEC.
SPEAKER_03And then we are we gonna go down to Hattons? Then Bush. Uh yeah. SCT bush. Sorry. That block. And then we go down to Hattons. Do all of that. Then come to Monsfront or driveway.
SPEAKER_04Um driveway, Mun's front. Work all the way down across to Russia. Uh uh round down, then Russia. Yeah. Probably finishing F. That's a lot of C. Oh, we did the tank. Oh yeah, we got uh We've got two new tanks on farm. Someone commented on the uh the last shed beers, and they go, I don't understand what the point of shed beers is.
SPEAKER_03Shed beers. I don't know. You're listening. Having bears and shit and having a gun to take a yarn. I don't know. We're just drinking beers. It's more behind the scenes sort of stuff.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, you just moment with that you're just describing what we're not doing. Yeah, it's basically all talking about all the stuff.
SPEAKER_03We just talk ourselves in like not doing it. Oh well.
SPEAKER_02No, the point of Chev Bez is just having a yarn about uh things that might get not go on the YouTube videos.
SPEAKER_04So like sucking up a ratchet strap.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that kept you a bit busy this morning, didn't it?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it did. Um Yeah, no, Chevy, I think yesterday afternoon caught a ratchet strap that was on a like an old pile of gravel or whatever. Um so that got wrapped up in it, but it got really wrapped up to the point where uh this morning uh backed it over the pit and we had to take off the full assembly. Yeah, take the full assembly off, take the blades off, like the the thing that holds the blades, and drop it all out and then take the ratch strap off, put it all back together. Which was a bit of a pain in the ass because it it took a while. Definitely took a while, but um we got it done.
SPEAKER_04Kept Jockey pod. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03I haven't had a lot to do today, guys.
SPEAKER_04I mean you cleaned the shed, you swept the shed.
SPEAKER_03I did the bits looking good. I did a few bits on the Cedar, like got it to where it's fully ready, and then yeah, just been tidying the workshop.
SPEAKER_04Well, uh on the Cedar.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Why is the Union Jack so much bigger than the Aussie flag?
SPEAKER_03Oh, I mean, like, is it not obvious? Just like I I feel like the United Kingdom is like more just just better, or like more superior over Australia. Oh yeah. So, you know, like there's there's a reason.
SPEAKER_04So why are you here? Uh just experience.
SPEAKER_02FDU cases so much better.
SPEAKER_04Hey, I wouldn't. We just have to extend up for the UK if you're gonna do it. We could uh oh no, your flag's not that big. What's that? I was gonna say we could we could put up you know the November generation or I don't think any of them have eyes. No, they don't. I don't have violence. Oh no, sorry, that one there does. That one there goes. Oh no, that's a fiberglass thing on it.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Anyway, the point no, the reason why the union so there's two flags on the Cedar, the Union Jack and the Australian flag. And uh well, obviously because I'm driving it, so that's the reason why the Union Jack is much bigger. And then I thought, oh, let's put the Aussie flag on, seeming now I am kind of Aussie. And uh and we also got a lot of comments.
SPEAKER_02And it's a lot of harvest about not having Aussie flags.
SPEAKER_03That was it, that was amazing. Yeah. So um I thought, oh, you know, I've moved to Australia, it's an Aussie, like we're in Australia seeding, let's get an Aussie flag, and um but the Aussie flag is like maybe four times as small as the um as the actual Union Jack itself. So um, yeah.
SPEAKER_04I wouldn't say four times.
SPEAKER_03I don't know.
SPEAKER_04Maybe it is. Definitely not.
SPEAKER_03One, two, three, four. I reckon four. Yeah, maybe. Like if you had four. Anyway, it's a lot smaller than uh Union Jack. It's very noticeable.
SPEAKER_04I reckon it'll be the first comment on YouTube.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, so what? Suck it up, you know what I mean? Next time, rule the world. Sorry. Oh yeah. Anyway, let's not get political. Oh, let's go. Yes. Come on, guys, what's going on? Oh we're so out of practice.
SPEAKER_04We are, we are. We we maybe we need to go back to everybody fortnight. Uh, every night, you know, and do a night, Jesus. That's what it felt like. That's what we had.
SPEAKER_02That's why we had to stop doing because it feels felt like, oh, wait, we need to do a podcast again. Yeah, jeez.
SPEAKER_03It did feel really recent, like it was constant.
SPEAKER_04Especially if we were, you know, doing kick-ons a couple times.
SPEAKER_03And hey, I say kick-ons at John's place after this. The girls are already there. Let's just go for it.
SPEAKER_04Didn't didn't she just drive past?
SPEAKER_03Uh yeah, to drop off the shopping.
SPEAKER_04Uh, okay. Oh well. I heard a rumour. I heard I heard a rumour.
SPEAKER_03The wine's flown.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I thought that she'd come back.
SPEAKER_03Oh, no, no. Yeah. I don't know. I don't know. No. Kick-ons. Slay. Um we don't have to work tomorrow. Anyway, let's talk about these solar pumps. That's one thing we've done that we haven't talked about on the podcast. Yep. Henry, go. Right.
SPEAKER_04Actually, it wasn't even on the YouTube, really.
SPEAKER_02No, no, because most of it was done uh while you were away. At carnivals at or was that George? What'd you say? Stupid kids. Stupid kids, yeah.
SPEAKER_04It's funny.
SPEAKER_03Jesus. You're always saying to me, like, oh, there'll be kids on the go, but like, you know, if I you understand if I have kids.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, you've got to come down to these events too.
SPEAKER_03Oh, it'd have to come down to these events too. So, Henry.
SPEAKER_04He needs to have kids, and then he will be down at the events as well.
SPEAKER_03So we're just gonna get nothing done. There's just no one on the farm anymore. Yeah. Anyway, these solar pumps. Yeah, you would have seen the video.
SPEAKER_02Um two new tanks on farm. So obviously, uh, so one is done off the new shed, so that was just piped onto the tank, and then we're 250,000, I think, literally, and then we chucked in a 350,000, is it? Yeah, 350,000 up in Rushine, and that is got a big ass pump pumping from our big ass dam.
SPEAKER_04I'm so impressed in how much water's in there already.
SPEAKER_02So we um yeah, so we finally got it plumbed together last Friday and only turned the pump back on. Oh no, I left the pump on, but um it would have only been started pumping on the Sunday, I think. Yeah. When we finally started getting sun and it started pumping, and I went up there and it's fair pouring into that uh into the tank. Yeah. And it's already three quarters full. Yeah. So it's uh smashing it, but yeah. Yeah, so that was that was interesting. Two and a half Ks of pipe and uh laid and uh yeah, just plumbed in this uh solar pump, which has got eight solar panels, so big older rack. Oh yeah, no, it was on ideal conditions. It was interesting getting that all set up.
SPEAKER_03Oh, yeah, it was good fun. The instructions were terrible.
SPEAKER_02Oh, that's okay.
SPEAKER_04I'm honestly so glad that I wasn't there for you.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but but you say the instructions were terrible. We didn't have instructions the first time.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, we had to try and figure out which way the we got it wrong the first time, I think.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, no, we we started putting it up and then we tried to put the solar panels on. I was like, that is not right.
SPEAKER_03I think you got things wrong that you didn't even realise you got wrong. Yeah. Because I went down to the solar pump like near my face. And I was like, Henry, these are on the wrong way. Yeah, no. Henry's like, no, they're not, we did it right. They were definitely on the wrong way.
SPEAKER_02What's on the wrong way? Uh the clamps that hold things, uh, the solar panels on. They're just wrong. How are they the wrong way? No, there's two different sizes. So what I said to George is we probably clamped it down and then it was like realized that was the wrong size wrong way round, and then decided it's holding it. It's good enough. That's fine.
SPEAKER_04That's fine by me.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_04As long as it's holding it. But no, that's fine.
SPEAKER_02So that that was the other thing that we did was we swapped out your solar pump for a bigger one.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, because I had a I think a 10,000 litre down there and it just wasn't doing the job, or maybe even five. But yeah. We swapped that for a 20 at a time.
SPEAKER_02And then and then put the that one out of there onto our saltwater soak, and that's yeah, still pop booster.
SPEAKER_04The problem with a uh pop top is they don't they don't.
SPEAKER_02Oh, like a catch.
SPEAKER_04Which Australian-born hang on player scored five test entries for New Zealand? Scott Stearis. Oh, Scott Starrus. Starrus. Guys, I'm dyslexic.
SPEAKER_03Reading is not me to try and read it. What was I think you read that one?
SPEAKER_04I don't think Henry read anyhow, did he?
SPEAKER_03In which sport does Teams complete or the John Lennon Trophy. Uh Badmington. Imagine trophy spelt with a PH. That's disgusting. That is disgusting. English.
SPEAKER_04It's your language.
SPEAKER_03Well, I'm not saying it's a good language.
SPEAKER_04It's Oh, so what the motherland does get some things wrong.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, true. Um anyway, come on. I said Badminton. What was it again?
SPEAKER_04Uh it was who competes for this trophy.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I can't remember. I don't know. I don't know. The the John Levin trophy. Um softball. Softball. Softball. What is softball? Softball is baseball. Baseball but under our baseball. Yeah. Yeah. Baseball for kids.
SPEAKER_04Oh.
SPEAKER_03Shots fired.
SPEAKER_04Shots fired. Hopefully no one here plays baseball. Oh yeah. Softball. Softball.
SPEAKER_02Andrew Murdens was born in which city? Neither of you probably know who that is. Wellington.
SPEAKER_03Ah, Auckland.
SPEAKER_02No. Oh. Wrong it wrong island. Oh, and is it an is there's another island?
SPEAKER_04Um what cities are in the north? No, you both said North Island cities. Is Wellington in the north?
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Oh my god. It's on the very tip of the north. Wellington is in the tip. Queensland. Queensland. Queenstown. Queenstown. Queenstown. Now we're going to the wrong country. Queenstown.
SPEAKER_01Queenstown.
SPEAKER_02Close to that. North of Kobaka.
SPEAKER_04Where are we talking about?
SPEAKER_02That's Dunedin.
SPEAKER_04Oh. What didn't you say, Dunedin? We've had so many people work here from Dunedin. Oh. That's the rough part of New Zealand. No common? The rough part of New Zealand is New Zealand.
SPEAKER_02No, there's definitely worse parts of New Zealand than Dunedin.
SPEAKER_04I honestly thought Wellington was in the It's the very south tip of the North Island. It's close enough to the South Island.
SPEAKER_02That's the capital, isn't it? But it's Auckland. No, Wellington is the capital.
SPEAKER_04I thought Auckland is a little bit more. Common mistake.
SPEAKER_02Yes, it's just the same as everyone thinking that Sydney's the capital of Australia. Yeah, my buddy Canberra.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. It's Wellington. Why was it Wellington? I can't remember the reason why they made it capital. Oh, I can't even remember. When I traveled New Zealand.
SPEAKER_04I'm such a well-travelled man.
SPEAKER_03I actually am, duh. I am.
SPEAKER_04Now on that, so I'm not sure if we brought it up on the podcast, but when you when you had to apply for your visa, uh they had to you they said to you that you need to put a list of every country you have gone to, every flight you've taken, like every country you've gone to, and what time, how long were you there, what were the dates. And uh when you said it to me, I was like, Oh my god, like for someone like you, that's ridiculous. For someone like me, I haven't left the country in over ten years, so it's pretty easy.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, with so the the thing was in the last ten years um you had to say everywhere you've been dates that you left the let's say the UK because it was dates you left the UK and then came back from the UK so arrived back in the UK and uh addresses of where you stayed now like I don't know I'm from the UK past last ten years where does that get me eleven eleven eleven years old yeah yeah yeah um yeah anyway so like I don't know my you know my family's been quite on quite a lot of holidays yeah and you you know you you guys are so close so you go to you know it's such a well travelled yeah you can just like nip over to Greece you know France and like it's you can go anywhere. Portugal um Portugal Switzerland yep anyway the point was like in the last 10 years I'd been to so many places.
SPEAKER_04Do you know how many places it was uh I don't know it was over 30 yeah yeah it's insane but and because I I mean when I was young I I well we did quite a lot of international travel yeah so yeah it's trying to think of that and you're going back oh my god I've I was 11 I don't even remember that yeah like I just the the key was like going through my mum's phone in photos and then like you could go back to the photo and see the date of the photo and just trying to work it all out but it was hard it it did take a long time to get all that information there.
SPEAKER_03It was quite funny just before we did this podcast we uh you know we were sitting down and you experienced your first uh thing of feeling old I did as well yeah I I had some sympathy for you guys it was crazy just a little bit a little bit yeah when we had Isaac here and yeah we're talking about the Chaser bin that was in 2003 and he was like oh man that Chaser bin's older than me I'm like oh wow I was 13 which the chaser been's older than you yeah yeah and then uh Chevy's quite a bit younger than you and yeah yeah gave me back I was just like yeah I don't like I was born 2004 and when Chevy said I was 2004 2004 1990 nice and easy look at that what nineteen ninety one right I 1999 anyway yeah I don't know classic Gen Zindan basically both of us were in high school before you were even born womp womp you're an I four yeah yeah what were you gonna ask no I was just trying to work out where I was in school oh I see yeah why were you at school I was fourteen years old cool yeah 14 years old I can't remember that's at a year 10 more so 21 plus that's year 10 14 you're 35 oh this year yeah 36 36 oof yeah no I'm a 90 drop so it's really easy yeah right well you know how old I am how old are you Henry late three I don't mind telling everyone in my Jesus and I turned 35 this year yeah that hurts to say you're a spring chicken Henry chicken yeah no it's uh yeah it is a it is a bit wild when you put it into that's crazy to me you'll get there someday and you'll I'm sure I will like today I was like oh my god like even that made me feel old but you guys yeah because what are you you're for on top of Chevy yeah that was four years apart and he well he said 2008 and I was like damn yeah it is wild when you put it into perspective you know just wait till you go to the pub with someone born in the 2010s oh god have you done that Henry no oh okay sorry I thought you said it's still like 1620 yeah when they're 16 yeah yeah you said it like an experience where you were like wait until you go to the pub with someone when they're 2010 it's crazy it is crazy illegal you do know that you go Germany you probably could don't start we need to do it on move on how about this weather hey yeah sure this podcast man i i'm enjoying it it's good fun no oh so far we've been able to do it 27 minutes and we've talking like 10 minutes of the farm I think that's better though like now we've got off the farm it's probably you know well it's just funny isn't it good chat all of that any interesting DMs lately should we have a look I haven't looked in a while actually at your old requests yeah yep I can't say I've had any uh interesting ones but you seem to get the you know the interesting ones regarding questions about yourself and Henry so what's happened disappeared everything's disappeared I don't know your Instagram's weird weird compared to mine but uh what we might as well have a little bit of background music while we're all silent waiting for you to um sorry guys I've I don't know no they've all disappeared no messages yeah that's unfortunate too anyway um what was the I can't remember it was just a few like about the farm and stuff um but no burning questions from all the viewers no burning questions no burning questions um so yeah see yours is completely different to mine he's got it in dark mode no I just have it in dark mode that's the only difference oh well when you had it up it was all different when it's up it's not different what are you looking at you're in requests there no requests and it says no message see oh you had an update or something uh well sorry everyone we're uh trying to educate a Gen Z here the the only thing I've got is from my grandma oh um here's a hug for the day carry it with you wherever you go leave in requests thanks Arlene how's the farm going back home how's old Mick and Baz too many bums and bags Mick Mick and Baz yeah Mick and Mick and buzz all right yeah buzz is not there any of that yeah I got the bottom and bag early I'm sorry that's good chat we should do that we should do that um yeah um farming in the UK is tough at the moment as you as farming here is tough at the moment um yeah price of diesel price of everything's going up um but no it's good uh just started lambing so obviously April how many head what how many head uh lambing yeah I don't know I don't know I've been here haven't I um what's he up to now I don't know it might might be 300 maybe that's pretty decent considering the size of your farm yeah he might be doing 300 um yeah I can't remember geez anyway um so yeah April is spring at home so we've just started lambing we lamb all of our lambs outside uh we don't bring them in the sheds to lamb indoors like a lot of people do and that but they do that in like February to try and get the lambs born like a lot of people try and get the lambs born in like first of February to have them fat by Easter which is crazy to me because like you're just pumping them with food and like I don't I don't see how they make the money off it. It's all there.
SPEAKER_02I'm sure the pubs are going crazy yeah yeah yeah um good chat um I know started laughing yeah everything at home's going well I think mum and dad are happy with how the farm's looking caterer's still rolling along still meowing hey guys if you're in the Leicester area and you have a cat that nears a hotel if you're going on holiday search up Stanton Cattery I think yeah I don't even know the name of the business I don't know cozy cat I don't know anyway book your cat in good gear okay how's Bruce going you know what's what's happening back on the farm well terrible son I haven't actually talked to him for a wee bit but uh they'll be they'll be uh putting crops back in now so same as us they seed at the same time as us yeah but um you guys are more doing different shit yeah you you do more for uh companies uh you you guys go seed don't you yeah yeah yeah but uh they'll be doing um yeah so the clover should be in or going in around now and they'll be starting to put the wheat in uh but yeah and busy fattening lambs as well yeah that's good but we fat them more than two months yeah oh only some people do that like we don't do that we fatten them over well sometimes over a year it just depends where the market goes we we find it better to lamb outside it's better on the sheep and if if you get good weather Nice you I remember Snapchats have you guys chuck him in your oven oh yeah it depends on the year like in the UK like sometimes it'll be April when it's snowing but equally it could be you know twenty degrees like it's yeah it's crazy.
SPEAKER_03But yeah but that's just how my dad does it we lamb outside normally like last year I would like you know kind of do night shift check them dad would do all day and um the point is like we're just trying to let the the yews lamb naturally in the field and as long as the lambs get up and then you know we catch lambs, tag them, deal with them, all of that around them.
SPEAKER_02So that's pretty much all we do back home. Yeah well not back home but in New Zealand.
SPEAKER_04Yeah it's all done naturally that's it's rare that people bring uh uh use in the lamb yeah but um well just on sheep uh we've just passed our so on on the first of April was our 50 years of Carmedy's farming in Cascade. Yes back in the uh back in the day we were big sheep farmers so we I think at the this thing at the at the peak it was 31 or 32 thousand there's some hunts merinos just down there there is actually still in oil yeah I looked at that I was like why so they don't rust no I know but like what you said away and I cleaned the loft out and we put it we put a dad pile and then it kind of got thinned out and then that was like ah I don't I don't know if dad's dad's pile I don't I was like I don't think I can throw them out so I just put them down there.
SPEAKER_02We'd get in trouble if we threw it out.
SPEAKER_03Probably needs to go back up into the loft to be honest one million views on this video and I will shave Henry's head with those shares. Oh yes please one million videos that's four million videos really every just said yes oh my god people people are just gonna go sit there and like restart restart restart yeah um no we'll do that yeah look I'm down for that a million views for uh for that yeah if we if we had a million views then sure you're gonna be scalped maybe you should get it out just see if we can cut a hair no no I like I'll show though you know what I mean I'll get them good I'll get them good cool do you know how to work then I do actually yeah but my dad still occasionally shears with them.
SPEAKER_04Really?
SPEAKER_03Yeah yep yep I've props to my dad he learned to shear when he was very young he's got like a a sil gold medal or something or silver medal in like um I don't know it's basically in the UK there's certificates and you can like run for them and it's kind of like a qualification of how many sheep you can do in an hour and that's gold seal I'm sure it's the same here or whatever.
SPEAKER_04Same here you get the comps.
SPEAKER_03Well the way he's he's very good and like he he shared the sheep himself like what he did 250 last year on his own so fair play to him but yeah I've seen not in an hour. No that would be fair play that would with hand shears no he doesn't he's got a proper machine now but I've got fingers on the man like I've seen or I'm like oh Popeye I've seen him like in the field when you've got a U with muggets or something I've seen him shear the U with the hunter so it's very impressive like it fair play it's it's an it's an art. Yeah no they st I mean they still do it in comps and watching them do a whole sheep yeah with uh hand shears is pretty impressive and still get it cleaner than I can get a sheep oh yeah I can I can't share yeah I've just I just peel the plastic off and then put it in the oven put the chops on the on the Barbie it's in the oven a roast maybe but in the oven not chops oh yeah you like on let's say it's a Tuesday night what you're whacking them on the Barbie a chop yeah yeah yeah oh no I'd like I'd say in the oven get it get it reverse searing get it get it all good you know boil it up it's probably yeah nice milk stuff in my house it's probably gonna be a roast anyway so that's probably why um anyway this podcast is a bit all over the place I'll be honest we we're just looking for things to talk about it's not great we s we what do we normally talk about on a podcast uh well drink your beer and then that'll make you think of something okay sorry I did the applause Henry already finished his so now he's gotta go get a yeah just a little intermission everybody I'm sorry at this point it's just us sitting here as an excuse to drink and I was trying to think about oh what did what did you say to me the other day and you were like oh I'll save that for the podcast never I haven't said that in weeks yeah no I think you have or was it Henry someone said to me like oh you need to you need to talk about that on the podcast I can't remember we talk about a lot of stuff over here guys well we do we do um I don't know forklift's still broken forklift is still broken has anyone got a forklift email us down below send me an email I will seriously look at buying a new forklift ideally diesel if not petrol maybe not gas definitely not gas yeah gas would run out too quick with the amount of work we do yeah it seems like a pain in the arse as well having to go to the gas place and get a gas bottle and a little tiny gas bottle what about an electric one that'd be pretty cool no why why would we get an electric one every night you just put it on charge exactly just use it it's down there is where the environment it would be cool you know what's cool is those omnidirectional ones you know is uh uh with the bag wheels have you seen them no so uh the first time I saw it was I'm not sure if you've uh uh familiar with the show Mythbusters oh yeah yeah and they they used to go sideways with their forklift because it has omnidirectional wheels and it's that was somewhere there's rollers in the wheel at an angle I have no idea how it works they turn them the opposite ways and it moves across I think so yeah because it's but they look like bags but that that would be cool. How did Mythbusters do it? Was it a myth? No they've just had a forklift at their shop I think and they had you freak the fact you're watching Mythbusters and that and you're like oh they had a fork shop at that place and uh it was really it was really cool and it had wheels but I didn't care about what they were doing it was just like I love the forklift I can imagine you was a kid doing that here comes Samry with way too many and I can hear that he went to the toilet because the pump is running oh yeah I can hear the pump yeah you're lucky so many bombs and bags Mick I don't think we've explained that to no I don't think we have to I enjoy that it's just like that's not a joke.
SPEAKER_04I just like that it's now Mick and Baz Mick and Baz where'd you get the bee from well because I was gonna say Kaz Bomb oh I said bomb first.
SPEAKER_03Yeah congratulations Kaz Bomb you're now grandma she will hate that she is it but we can't we said that on the last podcast oh did we yeah yeah I don't remember because we were talking about the name but we didn't say the name no we didn't say the name just about how weird names you know yeah yep yep yep yepity yppet You got a letter in the post the other day that was uh addressed to Money when you opened it money got a letter in the post the other day opening someone else's post I know it's illegal yeah so my border collie money my dog um he got a postcard he opened it and it just said I I had no clue who it was from um it said from Paddy I d I don't know Patty So you still know still know he doesn't I know I I do know who it is it's from Will. I'm probably not gonna say his full name or at least the way I say his full name do you know what I mean? Yeah yeah yeah um yeah shout out Will if you're listening to Lake I mean um but yeah it was from him but it said from Patty so I don't know he's just been what was the was that just a joke like is Patty just uh Well the thing is Will so Will is a friend of mine and Sasha's from back home and uh he works in like a small village shop so like a and it's a post office as well. So he's just got always loads of cards to hand so he just sends us loads of handwritten mail I want to say face for it I don't know just but yeah it was the first one for money so money's uh I actually I saw I I've seen a few comments in the last few videos where uh it's like three different people or whatever and they've been like oh I know Dexter's Henry's dog yeah they couldn't figure out what's whose that is um so we should probably explain because we've never actually I think we have but we have on video when when money was first intro introduced oh yeah on the bucket but uh yeah for th those who have missed it uh money is obviously George and Sash's uh pup.
SPEAKER_02That's his name money yeah and he is Dexter's son.
SPEAKER_03Yeah and Dexter's is Henry's poor collie and uh that's his son. So we're one big family over here.
SPEAKER_04Yeah I don't I can't tell if they get along or not.
SPEAKER_02Oh I think they seem to most of the time until Dexter gets annoyed with money and today's been awfully snappy.
SPEAKER_03Yeah yeah I did notice that they're equally fun both of them like occasionally money gets a bit but he snaps them and then chases them. So I don't it's like it's a love hate relationship between them. But they do play a lot so which is good. It's it is good that they get along like they're not nasty to each other because a lot of collies can be nasty to each other. It'd be interesting actually once um money gets his balls cut off yeah soon to be in the next few weeks in the next week or so um might calm him down the snip snap which is good because from running off with uh service manuals and stuff that was that was funny um but yeah he's he's nearly six months old and that's kind of like the soonest you can get him snipped. So I'm keen for that because I know collie's like you can occasionally if you leave them they can get a bit my dad always told me never trust the collie no matter how nice the collie is never trust the collie just like occasionally you could get that snap you know what I mean.
SPEAKER_04Oh yeah like Dex is completely like you know kind hearted and then he'll just absolutely go for money.
SPEAKER_02Just go yeah go for money or go for someone like oh that's true actually not like certain people he he never goes at people but he will bark at them and bark and mo sometimes obviously I'd go up and uh sort of coax them into yeah saying hello the one but there's there is a couple of people that he just everyone doesn't everyone watching will know but Buff from Harvest so he's the truckey uh he Buff just wanted to say hello
SPEAKER_04And just wanted a pat from this beautiful little border collie. I just none of it. I don't know what he was just he every time Buff would get out of the truck, it was just Dexter bark, bark, bark, bark, bark, bark. Yeah. It was it was wild. I'm like, and I'm like yelling at him to stop barking.
SPEAKER_01I'm like, I don't know what's going on, Buff. Get back in the truck. Run!
SPEAKER_04I know. Yeah. Yeah. So there we had we had uh Umberferth here the other day. Um it was the same. Oh, was it?
SPEAKER_02Obviously wasn't here for that, so you're fine for the hour and a half.
SPEAKER_04We were bloody standing there, and then when we walked out, it was um like yeah.
SPEAKER_03They were just chilling, and then all of a sudden Daxter just went for one of the guys. It was like Money was just like, what are we doing? Oh woof, oh woof.
SPEAKER_04On that, we also had uh Afgri here with uh the head of well basically the head of seeding and harvest, and then the head uh custom relations guy, and I can't remember what the other guy's title was. And Money's in this really bad habit of jumping on everybody.
SPEAKER_03He's in his jumping phase, and which I think he's slowly coming up.
SPEAKER_04I think he's well we say that, but he knows us.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it's it's new people is the like I I understand he's a pop in, he's just going through.
SPEAKER_04But you guys, if you guys got here, and this is after they've been here for a little while, and there are just footprints all over these people's knocking. I instantly clothes.
SPEAKER_03Like whenever every single one of them left with marks down there. Like a few of them were wearing chinos, and I could just see the prints, and I was like, fuck. It's like when currently when he meets a new person, he'll jump up at them and piss. And then no, he stopped that. Has he? He has the red rockets. He's does re-rock. Yeah, there's a red rocket, but at least he doesn't piss every time he he sees us anymore. It was at a point where like all three of us, when every time we'd see him, he would just piss everywhere. Um yeah, it's it's just a puppy and a collie, but he's in his jumping phase currently. So like he doesn't jump at us anymore, but when he sees a new person, he'll jump, jump, and then he's fine. But the problem was this was a very wet day. Do you know what I mean? Like it was just wet, and his paws were all over them. And oh, this poor lady was sat in a car and like she was panning money, and she had like a white air forces on or something. Oh, did she? My shoes are just completely, I'm so sorry.
SPEAKER_04She was like, No, it's fine. She was loving uh the dog. Oh yeah, she was.
SPEAKER_03But equally, it doesn't make it great when like no well, it's like you know, Sasha, she'll see money and be like, Hey money, money. I'm like, no, because like half the people that see money are like, no, get down, get down, and then the other half are like, hello, like all the girls are like, Come here, come here, jump up, jump up. And I'm like, guys, let's not teach him that.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, but um I'm not sure if you noticed, but when uh guys from Amberfirth got here the other day, one of them got out of the car and money went to do it, and he did you know rightfully so, like whacked him. Yeah, no, it's good, but that's how and then after that, money was the site.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, but it's like yeah, all the gals are just like hello money, buddy, hello. Um yeah they um talk about that about the Chaser Men people out here.
SPEAKER_04No, we had the yeah Mitch and Ben from uh Ozag Machinery. So the people who uh import the the Chase Mins in. And we also had Eric here who I'm not sure what his role it was never explained to us what his role was.
SPEAKER_03I wasn't sure. It's gotta be clearly from the States.
SPEAKER_04It's no yeah, yeah, no, it's gotta be very high up. He's gotta be like underneath the Unverse. Yeah. Um, it was uh it was good. No, have it you know, meet the guys and yeah, we talked about the bin, talked everything about it. Uh and uh so Eric deals with uh I'm sure most people who watch my YouTube would watch American YouTubes. So uh Larson Farms, it was really weird actually just talking to him and discussing it.
SPEAKER_03It was crazy actually, like talking to a guy that's just you know, been over there and seen all the kit and it was I don't know, it was just exact.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, that'd say he was talking about you know the Larsons and how they operate and yeah, he goes and sees them every couple months and all this. And uh there's also a little bit about the the Millennial Farmer, but we won't say that on the controversial on him. But uh yeah, no, that was that was cool. Um the I'm sure people who watch my YouTube also watch the Jackson brothers, so he's had the Jackson brothers over there and he took them around uh you know, showed them around the States, well, around their little area and uh yeah. No, it's good. Uh they're excited for the for the Chisemans. We're excited for them. Yeah, yeah um Shed Beers. Shed beers uh yeah, so I'm not sure if we've mentioned it, but we're the first in the world to have the long auger, which Arnold Firth aren't too happy about. Uh because well they they they're a bit reluctant about because it's testing basically on a product that's been sold and to us, which is in Australia and not in America.
SPEAKER_02But it sounds they've got a few prototype machines out there at the moment that I thought that they were sort of done harvest, but I I think if they well if it wor if it goes well, like this is the sort of market that you want the long orgasm. Yes, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_04And but I I have said it and I'm fully ready to accept it that I don't think it's gonna fill the Philbins uh how we used to.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but it also I'm gonna get to the middle.
SPEAKER_01No, it won't.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, no, but um just going on the price factor, you could literally buy another hundred tonner with the stuff.
SPEAKER_04Which I actually need to call uh Bedford Harbor, but we're gonna get two more. So we'll basically have 300 tonnes and the 860 in the paddock, I reckon. I don't want to deal with any of the others. That'll be fair enough.
SPEAKER_03So awesome. Yeah, it'd be good or turning around those PS. Oh, turning around those VVs, I reckon we should just leave them in the yard forever. But yeah, if you're gonna do it.
SPEAKER_02If you just think of the fact that you've got a whole another bin for the same price, uh you still got a lot more storage. You still have that you're using a lot more storage. Yeah, but um yeah.
SPEAKER_04No, uh uh it'll be cool. Uh talking with Eric, they've got uh Nand, I cannot remember what the Wayscale program is called. Let's just call it Harvest Me. Um but Harv it might be Harvest Me, yeah. Harvest Me uh does connect to John Deere Lee and then can somehow relay back into the headers, which I don't understand because you guys can't see what the headers are. I'm pretty can the headers can there be a Chase of In symbol? Because I'm pretty sure it's always header symbols in there.
SPEAKER_02I'm pretty sure I've seen uh I think we only see each other, but I'm sure I've seen the Americans doing corn and stuff that they've got Chasebins and stuff, yeah, yeah, uh other things on their um shared list.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. So basically you've you've got the Chaser bin, you've got the John Deere system. There's something in between that talks to the Chase of bin and converts it kind of and then talks to the John Deere system. Yeah, yes. Which is like an app, which we'll definitely have to look into.
SPEAKER_04100% because we are what it looked good because we were talking about oh, it'd be nice to you know know that this bag has got exactly 202 tonne in it, and that bag is actually at 180 make things a lot easier. And that's when they go, oh well you want harvest me because you can log it every single load. Every single load.
SPEAKER_03He was showing me his phone and it was pretty cool stuff.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but also makes it good for us calibrate in our machines because we're sort of sort of guessing like essentially we we know how much a bin full should weigh based on um volume uh literage. But yeah, yeah, hot and hectare letter, yeah. So we know how much it should weigh, but we still can't get it. No.
SPEAKER_03It's a pain in the ass when we try and calibrate because you've got to fill the machine like really, really full. The pain in the ass when it's overflowing, and then you can even when you guys are doing it.
SPEAKER_02And if we you have the weight scales, we don't have to do that. Yeah. Oh, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_04But uh even now when you're doing it, there's you you've seen the yield maps, you guys are now on my John Deere. Yeah, yeah, there is just a bit of strip. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Um don't touch it in canola because my machine is bang on in canola, yeah, and then the serials is uh off, whereas his uh George's machine is a lot closer in series.
SPEAKER_03It'll just be good to have like another thing to compare. Because currently we're comparing two headers, but when actually like the two headers could be wrong to each other, like I'm always looking at yours and you know, whatever.
SPEAKER_04The fact that you guys will be able to just unload any load. Oh, that was only six and a half ton, but we'll type that in, yeah. Done. Yeah, just another recalibration on it. It'll be good.
SPEAKER_02And we literally have like the load counters that uh there's no way that anybody could have heard that.
SPEAKER_03No, I don't think they did, because last time, last podcast, you were like, oh, the people at home are just listening to the dogs. You couldn't actually hear the dogs, and they were right there, but like I feel like that. Did did these guys hear them? No, like no, that was us.
SPEAKER_04Basically, it was a classic dexterous, very moany. Uh but yeah. You guys get for talking, I really oh, and he's not even finished his beard. Not even finished. Okay, come on. When you get back, you know, there's gonna be a little bit of music, you're gonna have to skull it.
SPEAKER_02But yeah, like you can literally just all right, I'll just make sure my head is still calibrated and you go on that load.
SPEAKER_04Which is I'm very excited for that. Uh, because I did talk to another farmer who was looking at new chaser bins, and I was trying to get him to go towards Umberfirth so we could try and get a deal going. Uh, and he said um he he's currently got weight scales and he reckons they're a waste of time. And really? He's got weight scales on one of them, and then on these other three, he didn't have any weight scales, and he said, Oh, it's a waste of time. He we just go off the leaderage and we know what there is and we know what the heck the leader is, and it's done. Like, that's it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but we've tried and I still get close.
SPEAKER_04No, I'd I'd much prefer that when you guys go to unload, it's exactly that. Yeah, it's done. Exactly. Put that cow factor in and done. Like that we it's uh a a perfect amount, like from that on.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. And there's also uh it gets even more fancy with the umber fur and um I don't uh it might be the same with um other way-scaled uh chaserbins, but um yeah, you can tell tell the chaser bin that I want to put uh 10 ton in this truck and it will turn itself off when it gets to 10 tonnes, which is very impressive.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, no, uh I th I'm not sure if this on can or not, but okay definitely the model above with whatever wave scale that was it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, because like no kidding I can't remember who it was another Australian that has all this set up. Yeah, and yeah, he goes and he says, There you go, very impressive. I want to put 20 ton in this trailer, so tell it that I need to put 20 ton in this trailer, and it was within like 300 kilos or something like that. It was very close, yeah, it was very impressive, yeah.
SPEAKER_04Uh and one of the things which we'll definitely will not be adding on is uh a moisture meter onto the chaser. Old mate goes, Oh, we can chuck a moisture meter on there, and it's like I don't know, guys. That sounds like a horrible idea.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's bad enough with the headers. I think it'd probably be the same with the Chaser.
SPEAKER_04It would be so inaccurate and just not worth the time. No. I don't know what your dogs have done, but they've disturbed Pippa. So Pippa's come running in here, and then I think she's like, oh yeah, blame our dogs. Pippa's the one who came in here. I think she's like, it's getting dark. We should be home by now. Where's my doggy sausage? Yeah, exactly. What have you done to that beer? What was that? What? You meant a scull.
SPEAKER_03Well, I'm not. I'm trying to go easy these days. I'm trying to drink less, I'll be honest. It's not going well, but I'm trying to. Do you know what I mean? I don't know, I'm just like, I don't know, just trying to be a bit healthier. Drink a bit. I I'm just, you know, you know what I mean? It's a Thursday night, for God's sake. It's basically Friday. It is Friday. It is Friday, yeah. Let's be honest. Um I don't know. Just trying to trying to be good. Um what you guys been talking about?
SPEAKER_04Uh just the first one. I'm kidding, I can't hear you. Well, we have 57 minutes, so we can leave the potty there. Unless there's anything else to talk about.
SPEAKER_03Well, when's this coming out? Easter Monday. Yeah. Well, you know what, guys? Um yeah, that'll probably be the last one. Uh, probably after seeding.
SPEAKER_04Probably four to six weeks.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Unless I, you know, like the seed outbreak, something because then we've got a bit of time to uh film the card. Don't do that. Don't do that.
SPEAKER_04We don't need the content. No. Let's not have the content, please.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Um, but no, it should be fine. And I'm sure we'll have a Shad Beers after seeding, and we'll That Shad Beers will be very rowdy. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04It'll be the first time all three of us have been in the same room together. Oh, yeah, for sure, yeah.
SPEAKER_03But it'll be the the seeding debrief, should we say? Yeah. So the next Shad Beers will be the seeding debrief. Um, and it'll be like, George, why'd you do this?
SPEAKER_01Why'd you do this? Henry.
SPEAKER_03John.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, you missed a spot.
SPEAKER_04Henry, how's the new boom spray?
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
