Enlightened Conversations
What it means to age well
Show Notes

In this episode, the University of Edinburgh Business School presents a conversation about ageing well, working lives and the power of the multi-generational workplace.

In May 2023, Global Alumni Day took place at the Business School, and it was bigger and better than ever. Over 150 alumni, staff and students joined at the School in person, as well as an online audience from around the world.

The event kicked off with a welcome from their Dean, Professor Wendy Loretto, where she recognised the value of alumni who regularly return to Edinburgh and contribute to the student experience. She also spoke warmly of keynote speaker for the day, best-selling author and Edinburgh graduate Carl Honoré.

The day before Global Alumni Day, Wendy met with Carl and recorded this conversation. They were joined by fellow Business School alumna Lee Panglea, Head of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development Scotland.

What followed was a fascinating discussion on the stories we tell about ageing, workplace discrimination through the lens of research, and what we can all do to change the conversation on what it means to age.

How do we support people to keep working, if they want to? What about unpaid carers? Are older women more discriminated against than older men? And who is the ideal worker, really?
