This is the Good Neighbor podcast, the place where local businesses and neighbors come together. Here's your host, Patricia Blondheim.
Speaker 2:Welcome to the Good Neighbor podcast. I'm your host, patricia Blondheim, and today we have Good Neighbor Mark Bosch. Mark is the service, product and marketing manager. He's a mouthful for Taylor Electrical Services here in Tuscaloosa. Mark, how are you this morning?
Speaker 3:I'm doing well. How are you?
Speaker 2:I'm doing great. Thank you, tell us about Taylor Electrical.
Speaker 3:Well, taylor Electrical is a locally-owned, locally-operated, family-owned business. We've been in business for 40 years this year and we do anything from utility electrical work We've got people that's up on the power poles. We do commercial electrical work, which could be anything from your small business all the way up to the football stadiums. Then we do residential service. If you have an issue at your house, we can come out, take care of the issues at your home. Basically, we're just a wide variety, any electrical service you need. We want you to think about Taylor Electrical.
Speaker 2:Awesome. Tell our listeners about your journey. How did you end up here, Mark?
Speaker 3:Company-wise. We were started by Bruce Taylor. He wanted to go out on his own, do his own electrical work, and it just blossomed into what we are today. Me personally, I've been with the company five years and this is where I'm going to be. It's a family-owned business. I love the business. I love what we do. I love getting to meet our customers and taking care of what they need. Like I said, anything electrical we can do it. That's why Bruce Taylor wanted it. We wanted to make sure that our employees can stay local. That's why we do so many different things. We don't specialize in one item which makes us have to travel for business. We specialize in all of it. It's local people, local electricians taking care of electrical needs locally. We love that part of it.
Speaker 2:You can do any level of business, which is really. I know that you also did the Westerville building originally.
Speaker 3:We've done Westerville and we continue to do maintenance at the Westerville building. When you think of Tuscaloosa, what is the biggest thing Tuscaloosa has? That would be Bryant Denny Stadium. Actually, in 2020, we totally redid the fire alarm system at Bryant Denny Stadium and ran new data for all the big video boards. You see things like that. We do the large-scale items like that, which we love to do. Then we turn around and you can call us and say I have a light switch and working at my house and we can come take care of that too. It's so much fun being able to do so many different things.
Speaker 2:You'll get the same level of service repairing a light switch in your home that Bryant Denny Stadium gets running their big. I'm going to call them megatrons, because I don't know what they're called the super big data.
Speaker 3:Right, the Jumbotrons, I think, is what they call them Jumbotrons, that's so big.
Speaker 2:It's so big I think it's beyond jumbo, isn't it?
Speaker 3:It's definitely it's bigger than jumbo. I don't really know. They are big. You're right. You're right, we do that. But then in your home or your business, our local business owners. We have good relationships with our local business owners. They call us and say it could be an emergency situation. I can't open because our registers aren't working, there's no power to our registers or I have a light out. We love our local businesses. We love to take care of them. You'd be surprised, at the places that you shop regularly, that we had our hand in something there. The new home goods store in Tuscaloosa hasn't been here that long. It's over there where the Toys R Us used to be. We did all the electrical there for all their lighting, all their electrical. When you're shopping in there, tater Electrical made all that lighting happen.
Speaker 2:Well, I love home goods and so I now love Taylor Electrical. Can you tell us any misconceptions that people have about, about the electrical industry?
Speaker 3:so you know particularly what. What stands out to me is I can't afford to get an electrical company to come fix this. I need to call my friends and see knows how to do electrical and do they have a friend that can do it and things like that. And you know there's a place for those people, you know the handyman kind of people, but electricity is not where you want that. So you know we tell people we are licensed, we are insured. If anything goes wrong we're gonna take care of you. If you get that guy that's a friend of a friend and oh yeah, I'll do it for cheaper than them, well, they come out and do it, but the issues have in the future. It's gonna cost you a lot more and your insurance company when they find out you did not use a licensed electrician, they're not gonna cover the repairs If something was to go wrong.
Speaker 2:No, they won't, and they will find out.
Speaker 3:Yes, they will. They're gonna want to know who did the work there. And so you know, like I said, if you have, you know people say I can't afford to hire an electrical company. Well, for our service side, now you know we, we quote and bid larger job, but on our Residential service, commercial service side, we charge by the hour. You only pay us for the time it takes us to work. I'm not gonna quote this high price and say, well, we finish in a half a day Instead of a day, but you still have to pay us a full rate. That that's not fair to anybody.
Speaker 2:Well now, mark, what do you? You do? There's a lot of stuff that Taylor electrical does, and and besides that, you're the voice of Taylor electrical. Right, you're the Bosch man on the radio. So yes ma'am a lot of hours, but what do you do for fun when you can squeeze in some time?
Speaker 3:Well, so my number one Fun is going to be I DJ on the side For friends and family, for birthday parties and weddings. I don't advertise it, it's not something you're gonna see me putting out there, but I love it. And I just I just got to do a 10 year old's birthday party about a week ago. It was amazing, though it was a, it was a 10 year old girl and those girls loved to dance and we had such a good time.
Speaker 3:And you know, a lot, of, a lot of people spend money on hunting equipment, fishing equipment. I spend money on my DJ equipment because that's what I love to do and it kind of comes in with me getting to be on the radio for Taylor electrical as well. It all kind of comes together so I get to do what I love. And then also, you know, I have two children. They're in my little girls in cheerleading, she's in softball, she's in gymnastics, my little boys in baseball, basketball and Boy Scouts. So you know I stay busy and when I'm doing those other things I'm usually working at the same time, but that's part of it. I love what I do and I love getting to take care of the people of our area.
Speaker 2:That's awesome. Hey, you know, you positioned yourself perfectly to be the really embarrassing dad 100%.
Speaker 3:Hey, I go to my kid's school dressed up a lot and they my little boy, he's, he's 10 now and kind of looking at me like really, daddy, are you really doing this? But my little girl, she's seven and she loves it. Daddy, will you please dress up and come to school. So I try to make time to do that. And being close to Christmas, who knows, you know what might happen there. I know for Halloween I was dead dressed up there for other Dr Seuss week. Cat in the hat all the way. I.
Speaker 2:Love that mark. You're so much fun.
Speaker 3:I love it. Look, you can get older ages in number. You don't really have to grow up.
Speaker 2:Well, I can, I can join you there. I'll join you there. But I mean, it sounds like. It sounds like you find the best in everything and I was just wondering is there a life challenge you've come across that that has changed your viewpoint or made you a better person?
Speaker 3:Well, so a lot, of, a lot of our employees, you know they are, they just come on board. They don't know anything about electrical, they're a helper right. They they say you know, you know, mark, I live paycheck, paycheck you. You don't know how that feels. Well, I'll tell you this. About seven or eight years ago, I was digging for change in couch cushions to put gas in my truck. So it's not. You know, I worked hard, learned what I needed to learn for this position, and I'm not gonna say I'm better off than anybody. But the Lord has blessed me with what I have and he continues to bless me, and anyone can work hard, just like I did. You can go from getting changed from your couch cushions to buy food and gas. Now my wife and I built a house about two years ago together On ten acres of land is gonna be our forever home. We're very, I'm very proud of that because I worked hard to make it and so Anyone can do that, if I can.
Speaker 2:That's amazing. So, before we go, what would you like to leave our listeners about Taylor Electrical?
Speaker 3:so, business owners or Private individuals at your homes, give us the opportunity to show you what we can do. If you have any electrical issues, it could be anything. If you need an outlet added in a certain spot in your home, we can do that. If you want a TV hung with an outlet behind it in home, we can do that. Let us take care of you and your family. Let us take care of you and your business. We love to be local. We love to work with anyone. Tuscaloosa and surrounding areas, you know that includes Birmingham. That includes, you know, the small, the small place Greensboro. We do a lot of work in Greensboro would stop the small towns around. We love the small towns. When people say I can't get someone to come out here and do work, yes, you can. We'll come to you, we'll charge you a fair rate and we'll do quality work. Terrific, how, how can people get a hold of you.
Speaker 2:How can people get a hold of Taylor Electrical? So the best way is you can call or you can text 205 553 0958 and that's a call or text message.
Speaker 3:I know we're in 2023. A lot of people don't want to call on the phone. It's okay, shoot us a text message will respond back to you. Or you can look us up on the web at Taylor Electrical in the future. Or you can look us up on the web at Taylor Electrical Inccom.
Speaker 2:Wonderful mark. It's been a pleasure. Thank you stopping by the studio. It was fun.
