The Mic Drop: When Words Touch Lives ft Pat Simmons
What happens when a podcaster and a novelist share their mutual passion for using stories to draw people to Christ? In this powerful conversation, Jacquiline Cox (ListenLinda) welcomes Pat Simmons, Christian romance author of 18 years, to explore spiritual storytelling as ministry.
Simmons opens her heart about the Intercessors series and her latest release "Day of Salvation," revealing how these books visualize spiritual battles happening around us daily. "Show my people the spiritual battles I fight for them every day," God instructed her—taking her writing far beyond her usual romance genre comfort zone. The result? Fiction that readers describe as "riveting," "eye-opening," and "a challenge to all believers."
With remarkable candor, Pat shares how the character Catherine Kincaid represents prayer warriors everywhere—those dedicated intercessors in churches who fight unseen battles. Drawing from Ephesians 6:12, she crafts stories that make spiritual warfare tangible while encouraging readers to become more spiritually vigilant.
The conversation takes a particularly moving turn when both women discuss protecting children through prayer. Pat shares a touching story about praying for six young boys she met randomly at a restaurant, adding them permanently to her prayer list because "our boys are in trouble." Her testimony illustrates how fiction can illuminate biblical truths and inspire readers to become more dedicated prayer warriors in their own lives.
This episode isn't just about books—it's about using our voices to share God's goodness. As Jacqueline powerfully states, quoting Romans 10:14-15, "How can people believe in what they have not heard, and how can they hear without someone preaching?" Whether through novels, podcasts, or personal testimonies, this conversation challenges us all to share our stories of faith.
Ready to experience spiritual fiction that strengthens your walk with Christ? Discover Pat Simmons' Intercessors series and join the movement of believers using their voices to bring others closer to God.
Hey there, I'm Jacqueline Cox, but you might know me as ListenLinda. Um, where do I even begin? I guess you could say I wear many hats Podcast host, entrepreneur, Mrs Illinois, usa, and so much more but it all started with a simple passion to tell stories and empower others. Building a platform wasn't easy. There were days when I wondered if anyone was even listening. But then something amazing happened. I realized the power of my voice. Suddenly, my words were reaching people, touching lives, making a difference. Now I see my mission clearly to create spaces where every voice can be heard, because when we listen to each other's stories, we grow, we connect, we become stronger. Every voice matters, every story has power. So what's your story? I'm here to listen and together we can make our voices echo far and wide. Speaker 2:I love it. I made it myself. I love it, I love it. Thank you so so much and thank you, I love you. Thank you so much for coming. I got some people jealous girl because I got that. Y'all ain't got to be jealous. Just let me know if you want the hookup. I got some people jealous girl because I got to show, but y'all ain't got to be jealous, just let me know if you want the hook up and I might get it.
Speaker 3:Oh my, goodness, oh my goodness, it's just me. That's it, that's it. I'm just a servant of the Lord. That's it, that's it, I am fangirling.
Speaker 2:Hey, myra, I know Myra gonna look at this and be like, yeah, you got my girl.
Speaker 3:hey, myra, we see you girl Myra's, my friend, yes that's my girl, so I call everybody mama.
Speaker 2:So if I get mama packed, might get queen packed, never know.
Speaker 3:I can get mama. I can, I can, it's human. It's human in St Louis. So y'all, this is the summer, bad hair day we're not doing that.
Speaker 2:You look good today, girl. I want to be like you when I grow up. Oh my. So we are so glad you are here now. Congratulations on releasing day of salvation, thank you readers have been calling it an eye-opening work about realities of spiritual warfare and a challenge to all believers who answered the call. Can you give the audience and listeners a little background about who you are and what you do?
Speaker 3:Well, you've already given me this great introduction, but I'm Pat Simmons, I'm from St Louis and I'm going on my 18th year as a author and I'm thankful Many people know as authors the journey to traditional publishing is not easy at all and right when you're ready to give up, someone finds favor in what you're doing and you get a deal. So fast forward, 18 years later, this whole series really came about, with me coming out of my prayer closet the Lord, and I'm a Christian romance. Give me some good romance my books. When I first started I told people I write clean books that you can read on Saturday and go to church on Sunday guilt-free. But the Lord are chasing me to let me know, tell them more why you write. And so when you ask me now, versus years ago, I write to draw people to Christ period. If you are already walking with Christ, I'm writing to encourage you to stay in your walk with Christ.
Speaker 3:Now there's readers that cannot say that and there may be some Christian authors that may not say that. But that's what God had me to say that I love me some you know some good love stories. I got my you know my Jameson men the next generation. But when God saves people. In my books they say, you know, going in and out the church. That may happen in your world, but in my world, what did the Bible say? That he? I wanted to say it was 300, but it may have been 3000 prophets that did not bow down. God has got authors out here that's going to help draw people in, and so I am honored to be one of those to walk in this writing ministry.
Speaker 2:Yes, and I love your work. I absolutely adore it. I just started writing about a few years ago and that's been my way as well. I want to reach people where they are. You know, everybody is on a different level in their journey and their walk, in their faith. Right, I believe that I shouldn't have to change who I am or act like I am further in my walk than what I am in order to reach people. I want to reach people who are where I am or back where I used to be, and bring them closer, and that is the key and the only way that I feel that I can do that is being authentically who I am, because if I try to be you or I try to be, you know, dr Velma, if I try to be, you know anybody that is further along in their walk than what I am.
Speaker 2:I'm only 36. I can't claim to have the knowledge of somebody who's double my age, but I know what I know now and in knowing what I know now, I have helped a lot of people through the grace of God. Working through me as a vessel have helped so many people along the way. Over 100 people now tell their stories and get their stories out just through my work, through my anthologies, and it's all been inspired from people like you, vanessa Miller Pierce, dr Thelma Laquita Parks, natasha Frazier.
Speaker 2:All of you guys are just so and Rhonda Lawson, all of you guys, dr Audrey Ann especially she's amazing, but so many people who I've looked up to in your writings and then to actually get the chance to meet you guys and fellowship with you guys and just it's just been an amazing experience. So I'm just super honored.
Speaker 3:And many of those names you call. I count them as my friends. You have Angela Anderson coming on. That's my girl. I mean you know, being a Christian author, we're a small knit community and it's not the competition, it's more like I'm lifting you up. You know you need to get that manuscript done. I'm praying for you. You need that book deal. I'm looking out for you. Hey, I heard. I mean we're a small knit community and we should be like a group of people, unlike other people. We should be. We're bringing people up.
Speaker 2:And that's what I found in this group and, um, it's just been amazing to me how people have literally opened their hearts in and and just said come here, sugar, let me help you out, let me help you out. And then you guys take what you know and you feed it to me. And then I take what I know with brand and marketing and different things and I feed it to you guys. And that is where the blessing comes in at, because we have to be able, like you say, um collaboration over competition. Every day I hear that so much in the community, but it's very, very hard to find authenticity in that. Like, a lot of people say it but a lot of people don't actually do it. So to find that in this group of of, of multi-generational women, it's been phenomenal for me, and even just this past campaign that I did with the 25 awesome artists, wow, wow, wow these ladies. You guys, if you do not have the latest edition of the listen linda magazine, please go get it. These ladies are phenomenal, phenomenal.
Speaker 2:Now, all right, pat, pat, we got to know. Now I'm going to get into the book. Now we're talking, I'm getting to the book. I know we didn't gave everybody, pray everybody y'all and got y'all praise. Now it's time for me to get into Catherine Kincaid. So you know we got to talk about Cat. So people want to know. Ok, what they want to know. Catherine Kincaid is a church mother with a heavily tasked, a supernatural list of souls that must be reached before time runs out, because once every soul is accounted for, jesus returns. Right, I saw a reader say, because I've been doing a little research, this book is amazing, a challenge to all believers. The tension is real. What birthed that idea? As far as like Catherine Kincaid, am I saying it right? Catherine Kincaid, mm-hmm, okay, so what birthed her character Like? Was it a real life person that you knew, or was it just a combination of people?
Speaker 3:Well, you know, being an author yourself, we create characters that take a little bit of that person and this person and that person. And so this was the first book coming out, the Prayer Closet that God had me to write. And there was a mother, helena Wright, who I modeled after the woman who was a weekend Bible. No, she was a neighborhood Bible instructor, and so when she passed in this book then Mother Kincaid picked up the torch, but we all have that church mother.
Speaker 3:I mean, we have a group at my church called the Delta Force. They started at my church at Bethesda and St Louis and they have people that call in New Jersey, just far Texas. They get up every morning at 530. I get up every morning and pray, but I can't get up at 530. Let the Lord wake me up at 530. I'm rolling over at 5.30. I get up every morning and pray, but I can't get up at 5.30. Let the Lord wake me up at 5.30. I'm rolling over 5.30. But the Delta Force, they're intercessors. My pastor is one who believes. Okay, we got prayer Saturday morning. We got prayer Wednesday night before Bible class. Every fifth Sunday in the calendar year we have corporate prayer where we have no church service. Everyone comes out for one hour and we pray, and you would think that there's no choir or fire preaching, but the church is packed because people recognize the need of prayer, the need of prayer. So Mother Kincaid just represents the prayer warriors at our churches.
Speaker 2:Wow. Now another reviewer said this book is riveting, a must read. Keep your interest while encouraging you to follow Christ. Was it intentional to feel like spiritual warfare, and how do you balance suspense with ministry?
Speaker 3:Well, you know one thing I can say that this series took me out of my comfort level. I'm a Christian romance and when I came out the prayer closet, god gave me this title no characters, no plots, this title and I'm like okay. And so I went and got all the end time scriptures. And I'm like okay, now what? Because, as an author yourself, we we use an outline, we kind of know the beginning, middle and end.
Speaker 3:But with this, I God told me, show people the spiritual battles. We see gunfire and fires, we see those with the natural eye. But god said show my people the spiritual battles. I fight for them every day so that they can have another day. So, as you can see, I just had the whole concept all wrong. So these, these books, actually, I'm actually describing visual spiritual battles, visual so people can see.
Speaker 3:There's no guarantee when we leave our house we're coming back, that does happen, but we don't know how many battles are being fought while we're driving down the street and you know, seconds later there was an accident that could have involved us, you know, or a storm being, or just so many different things. So this was out of my comfort zone. But but one encouragement I had that every morning, before I left my prayer closet, god gave me the scene to write. I didn't have a heads up Right and so now, with the book that I'm working on, god was it's not the intercessors, but God was directing me. Okay, this is what you handled today, which is so different for me, but I appreciate God doing that and I do know that everyone that picks up any of these books, any of these books in the intercessor series, any of them, god has a message tailored for that reader, and I know it because some of my readers are like no romance.
Speaker 3:But it wasn't about romance. But then this book, it does have romance because it piggybacked and I listened to my readers. But she had a job to do. She came to do it and she did it. I mean, this message is for now. The book started a couple of years ago, but who knew that what we're seeing now is the Bible being fulfilled? Absolutely Didn't see that coming when I started. But I do know that God is coming and, whether we're ready or not, he's coming.
Speaker 2:Yes, he's definitely coming. And to piggyback on what you said about you're not really understanding why or what, but you just know God gave it to you. That's kind of how I was with my latest book with. If I were to write a book in the Bible, god gave me that a while back, right, and we all know like nobody in the Bible was perfect. Everybody had a story. And so what I did was I took all my stories and I turned them into scripture, like in scripture form, and so when I did it I was talking to Dr Velma because I finished it. I started it.
Speaker 2:It was like a six month journey and I finished it and I was so scared to put it out and I'm usually not like that, like with anything I do, I'm real bold in it. This time I was like I don't know what. You know what the saints don't think, because who am I to write a book in the bible. And she was like well, everybody in in the bible was troubled and god gave them a word and they wrote it. So what's the difference between you and them? Except they were back then and you are now.
Speaker 2:So if god gave it to you, he told you to put it out, put it out and it was phenomenally received. So I'm super happy about that because I was very, very afraid of you know what even people like in my circle like what they would think, like who she thinks she is writing a book in the you know like, but I I felt like that was my testimony. Just like everybody in the bible, they had a testimony where god. But I felt like that was my testimony. Just like everybody in the Bible, they had a testimony where God spoke to them and they and they ended up going this way or that way, but whatever path they went, they wrote about and God spoke to them on their journeys and I felt like why can't I do it? You know.
Speaker 3:But see, that's not unusual. Yeah, we all feel like that, even me. You know I may not be in New York Times bestselling author, I may not have that accolade, but my pastor, who's gone now, bishop Johnson, was a powerful giant in the apostolic Pentecostal movement. A lot of people knew who he was. He wasn't as elevated as TB Jakes, where everybody knew who he was, but what Bishop had to say was powerful. And so I equate that to me and to you, that everybody may not know who we are, but what we have to say is powerful, it matters, and so it's not. It's not. I mean, how many people question God? Who am I? I'm just the child. David, king David's, like, I'm just a shepherd. Who am I, solomon, lord, I'm just a child. Show me how to rule your people. So, coming to God with that humility, god can use you, he can use you.
Speaker 2:Then he can heal you Absolutely. And you know what that whole premise is. It reminds me of Ephesians 6 and 12. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but spiritual weakness and high places. Now that verse. But you know, spiritual weakness and high places, now, um, that verse. Yes, you got it up there, see, look. Oh now I want to ask you a question now, cause, see, okay, was you looking at that when you wrote about Catherine? Look, because Catherine, when she was battling, like her mindset, like how did that, did that verse influence Catherine's battle mindset, like as far as, like how she moved in the book? Because to me, that's what, when I was reading Catherine, that's what came to me. You know, we wrestle not against flesh and blood. That's all I kept seeing when I was reading about Catherine. I was like Catherine is a bad mammy jammy.
Speaker 3:Well, it's the church. It was the whole church. Catherine was a product of the church and this church was used in spiritual warfare. All churches aren't spiritually warfare minded. You know, some churches are social clubs.
Speaker 3:I went to church on Sunday. What was the message? Girl, we had a good time shouting in the mute, but what was the message? When we go to church, there should be a message that when we leave we're still tasting Like I'm still thinking about a message from a young man on Sunday.
Speaker 3:I don't know how old Elder Tyler is, but maybe he's about your age, maybe about 35. But he said he would always. You know, when he first got saved, he was always concerned about doing something that would make him miss the rapture. And he was saying saints, let me comfort you, you can't be scared of something you're looking for. And I'm still chewing on that. I'm like, okay, we can't be scared of the rapture if we looking for it. So we are supposed to walk away from service stronger than we were the week before. So Mother Kincaid is a product of that church and the and the church had their assignment and their assignment was to fight for soul. There's Angela Anderson, my fun Friday crew. I love her. But I mean, but that's my girl, that, that's, that's my girl. But you know, the church had the assignment we are supposed to.
Speaker 3:When you finish reading this book, you should be more spiritually minded. You should be looking for souls to be saved. This book scared me, for souls to be saved. This book scared me. It scared me because when I was in my prayer closet, god said I'm coming for the children and I'm like, okay, and I'm praying. He said I'm coming for the children. I'm like, okay, god, who is there a specific child I'm supposed to pray for? Then he thundered I'm coming for the children. I began that book with that and because of this book. Now when I see young children, I pray for them because God's coming for the children. And so, yeah, I mean when we finish these books we should be a better saint than we were when we finished, because it's not Pat, it's God.
Speaker 2:Absolutely, and your words are super powerful. Absolutely, and your words are super powerful. Now I know I got a couple of them on my kindle, but I'm gonna get all them paperbacks. I need all of them in a box. So, wwwpasssimmonsnet, honey, because I need all of mine. I want my sign, I want a couple of book bookmarks, whatever it is that you throw in your boxes, because you know she got these cute little boxes. I thought I had me a cute little box, cute little box. I was like, oh, I got to get me some. So scroll on her page. She got some stuff and I will be bringing up. Matter of fact, let me bring up this banner right now. Y'all can check that out while you're listening. But getting back to um, since this is book four in the series, correct, if someone has not read the earlier intercessor books, they still. Can they still start there? Or is the background? Do they need like more background? Should they get like start from one and then go? I mean, mean they?
Speaker 3:some people know, you know, some serious readers. I don't care if the book, if the first book was 10 years ago. They're going back 10 years and buy that book on eBay. You know? But see what I mean. But no, you can't, because all of them are based on spiritual warfare. Yes, All based on spiritual warfare. Yes, they're all based on spiritual warfare.
Speaker 3:And her assignment was these people. But think about when God gives us people to pray for. I have gotten up early in the morning to pray for people in situations that I know nothing about, situations that I know nothing about, and God may give me a burden of sadness for this person, to bring these people out of addictions or domestic violence or whatever they're into. So when we finish reading these books, even though my name is on it but God guided me to write those books, me to write those books I'm more aware of there's a teenager I'll never forget.
Speaker 3:I was sitting in Wendy's with my husband, you know, just going to get a burger, and it was this grandmother and she had all her grandkids, all six little boys, and they were just so cute, like little, like little man child. They were just very manable, just so cute. And I asked her. I said do you mind? No one else was in the in Wednesday. I said do you mind, when you finish, when you leave, If I pray, if I pray for them? She said no, and when they finished she said ma'am, I'm ready. And I just held hands and I prayed for them. Those six little boys are still on my prayer list Because, God, I don't know what they will face growing up. But, Lord, keep them, Let them walk with you. And so the teenagers and those six little boys. I'll just never forgive them. You can tell when they grow up they're going to be some fine brothers. They were just so cute. But our boys are in trouble. Yes, they are.
Speaker 2:It's there. Yep, I'm a 9-year-old and a 14-year-old In the word. Yes, all of their books, their bestsellers, and they are all parables of the Bible. Those boys are phenomenal and they are wrapped up honey in prayer and the word. So add them to your list, honey, amen, yes, amen, because those are some men of God in training honey.
Speaker 3:Right.
Speaker 2:Yes, yes, yes, I definitely understand. Our boys are definitely in trouble. I've been battling with school systems and every time you look up you know I definitely understand. Our boys are definitely in trouble. I've been battling with school systems and every time you look up I'm pulling them out and people say why you keep changing them kids' school? Because I have dominion over them. I have dominion over them because God gave it to me and I'm not going to let no system snatch mine up and take them through the pipeline. You get what I'm saying. The devil can't have mine. If I got a homeschool, that's what I do.
Speaker 2:So we have to make sure that we keep our kids close and keep them prayed up and keep them in the word. Every day, before we leave, we pray, we pray in the car. They know the scriptures when they get in there. Their heart, they know to pray before we eat, pray before we go to bed. Just keep yourself dipped in the word, because that's the only thing that's going to save you from whatever it is. That's uninvited. Ms Pat, you there? I think her internet paused. Okay, so, ms Pat, internet paused, but I'm pretty sure she will be back. But right now, while we're waiting, we're going to have a word from our sponsor.

We prayed. When the world said it was hopeless, we stood tall. When others said we should fall, we found strength in our diversity and unity in our shared belief. Speaker 2:And unfortunately, pat kind of had to go. Her internet is down, but we will continue this conversation on a later day. However, I do want to let you guys know that please pick up A Day of Salvation. Go to her website, which is on the screen here wwwpatsimmonsnet. Pat, it is okay, it was a pleasure, but you know the devil try to come in and out, especially when you speaking about, you know um just staying true to the word and keeping our boys safe and keeping them prayed up. The devil gonna always try to come in, but he will not win. It will not prosper. This conversation will continue, so be ready for part two of this conversation with Pat Simmons. Okay, we're going to get more into that. I do want to let you guys know that Pat is a literary giant to me and she is absolutely amazing. You can find Pat Simmons on TikTok, at author Pat Simmons. You can find her on Facebook, pat Simmons. You can find her on Instagram. Wherever social media is concerned, pat Simmons is there again. You can check her out in the intercessor series um at wwwpatsimmonsnet. That that website right there and um continue to stay prayed up.
Speaker 2:Grab a day of salvation. Grab all of the intercession books, because they are absolutely phenomenal. And before we go, yeah, make sure you grab them all. Grab them in paperback, ebook, audiobook. Catherine's journey, especially in the day of salvation, will challenge you, stir you and it will definitely activate your intercession. Okay, so, um and here's a verse that I want to say as well um, for you guys to meditate on as you read um, a day of salvation, and that's Romans 10, 14 and 15. How can they believe in the one they have not heard and how can they hear without someone's preaching? Okay, catherine's race is a powerful reflection of that great commission call, as is all of us, right? So I do have an anthology that's coming out, called Through the Rain. It's coming out very soon. You guys know I'm like Beyonce, I never drop my day, just be looking out for it. But I'm also doing an author call for a devotional, the Through the Rain devotional, and that is very powerful in Romans 10, 14, and 15.
Speaker 2:How can people believe in what they have not heard and how can they hear without someone preaching? How can people be saved if we don't tell people the goodness of God or that God lives? People don't know that God exists unless they see the miracle that is him because they can't see him, but they can see what he does through us. And if we're not telling the story, if we're not shouting into the rooftops, if we're not writing about it, if we're not talking about it, if we're not speaking on it, how can they know that God exists? If the people who have witnessed God, such as us ourselves, because we can get ourselves through the rain God had to bring us through those storms. We can get ourselves out the waiting room. God had to bring us through those storms. We can get ourselves out the waiting room. God had to bring us through that waiting season. So we must be the vessel that tells the story of how good God is, just like all those people did in the Bible. We must do the same.
Speaker 2:I have the Through the Rain anthology and I also have the. If I Were to Write a Book in the Bible anthology those two anthologies I'm taking people right now. So you don't have to be a seasoned author, you don't have to be an award-winning author to be in my anthologies. All you have to do is have a testimony how good God is, and I will walk you through every single step, every step, and I will also market you more than you have ever been marketed, ever, ever. Because I want to make sure that not only that you're selling books and you're getting your ROI back, but I really want to make sure that people who may not have heard your story hears your story and they are saved by your story.
Speaker 2:Okay, by the grace of God, to God be all the glory for my show, for the Listen Linda brand and marketing for Listen Linda. Publishing for Listen Linda live. Listen Linda book club. All things Listen Linda, listen Linda. Okay. So thank you guys so much for showing showing up, showing me so much.
Speaker 2:Love Angela Anderson, everybody else who have been tuning in through YouTube, um and LinkedIn. I see I have 27 people viewing right now on LinkedIn. I have um 46 people on YouTube. Thank you so much for always, always tuning in to your girl, listen Linda. Pat, you blessed me big time with this. You blessed us the whole, everybody who tunes in, and I appreciate you so so very much. Make sure to follow her for more inspiration. I'll see you all next week for Arthur, number four. Until then, pray like intercessors. Number four. Until then, pray like intercessors, walk in purpose and don't let your God story stay in your notebook. Okay, love you all, heavenly Father. Thank you for this time. May the seeds planted through this conversation take root and bear fruit. Bless every single person watching and reading Catherine's journey today. Stir intercession, lord God. Build bold faith, lord God in Jesus' mighty name, amen and until next time.
Speaker 4:Her hands were soft but they were strong. Her voice, gentle but full of power. She didn't wear a cape, she wore a sweater that smelled like Sunday morning pancakes and prayer. She taught us more than just how to tie our shoes. She taught us how to stand tall when life tries to knock us down. And now it's our turn to tell the world, featuring real stories from real women from every background and every corner of the world, because love like this has no borders. Because when Grandma speaks, the world listens. Join the Grandma's Hands Anthology and give your grandma an ode she can be proud of and one your legacy will be known for for generations to come. Contact Dr Jacqueline Cox for more information. A portion of the proceeds will go towards the Walk for Lupus Now Foundation.
