Jacquiline Season 9 Episode 2

What happens when we choose to speak life over ourselves? In this soul-stirring conversation, author Angela Anderson reveals how the simple words "I am" can transform our entire reality. Her book "The Power of I Am: 21 Days of Affirming You" offers a practical pathway to breaking negative thought cycles—requiring just three minutes each day.

Angela shares the divine inspiration behind her affirmation journey, explaining why she chose the 21-day format specifically for busy people who struggle to make time for self-care. "You cannot pour from an empty cup," she reminds us, challenging the notion that taking time for ourselves is selfish.

The conversation takes an inspiring turn when Angela reveals one of her favorite affirmations: "Be the original masterpiece that you are created to be." This statement resonates deeply with host Jacqueline Cox, sparking a passionate discussion about authenticity in a world full of copycats. As Angela puts it, "Nobody can beat you being you."

Beyond her role as an author, Angela opens up about her work as a podcaster, literary event host, and mentor. Her pre-pandemic "Literary Café" events featuring author-inspired painting sessions and character-based fashion shows showcase her creativity in bringing books to life in community settings.

For anyone feeling stuck in negative thought patterns, Angela offers a simple but powerful reset affirmation: "I am enough." This three-word declaration challenges the root belief behind most insecurities and opens the door to genuine self-acceptance.

Speaker 1:

Hey there, I'm Jacqueline Cox, but you might know me as ListenLinda. Um, where do I even begin? I guess you could say I wear many hats Podcast host, entrepreneur, Mrs Illinois, usa, and so much more but it all started with a simple passion to tell stories and empower others. Building a platform wasn't easy. There were days when I wondered if anyone was even listening. But then something amazing happened. I realized the power of my voice. Suddenly, my words were reaching people, touching lives, making a difference. Now I see my mission clearly to create spaces where every voice can be heard, because when we listen to each other's stories, we grow, we connect, we become stronger. Every voice matters, every story has power. So what's your story? I'm here to listen and together we can make our voices echo far and wide. To be a guest on Listen Linda. She's the author of the Power of I Am 21 Days of Affirming you, a must-have for anybody who's ready to break the cycle of negative self-talk and step into the truth of who God says you are. She's also the host of Angela Anderson Presents, where she uses her platform to lift up others, share wisdom and create space for real conversations. That heal child. And if you haven't been following the ListenLinda community heel chat, and if you haven't been following the listen linda community, you know she's one of our 25 awesome authors of 2025 for the international best-selling listen linda magazine, july edition. Okay, a title she wears well. So listen linda. Yes, thank you, welcome, a welcome, a friend, a sister, a woman of God's own heart, miss Angela Anderson to the stage. Wow.

Speaker 3:

Jacqueline, oh my goodness, that is an honor, that introduction in itself. My friend, thank you so much for having me on your show. I am super, duper excited and not only that to be one of your 25 of 2025 authors. July edition honored, just honored, no words.

Speaker 2:

Well, you know, I was first introduced to you by Dr Velma, who is I call her Mama V, that is my mama, that is grandmama, okay, that is grandmama, okay, the California grandmama. And when she was like, oh, you got to check out Angela Anderson, I added you and I was like, oh, I got to have her honey, I know.

Speaker 2:

I got to look. I'm on the stage, honey, looking for this book and I cannot find it. But when I find it I'm going to post it and post a picture with it. I actually bought the book, honey, oh, thank you. So, girl, you got to excuse and that's why y'all see this background right here, honey, because I can't let y'all see my office. Y'all is a mess.

Speaker 2:

But before we get started or go any further, I always open in prayer. So, started or go any further, I always open in prayer. So I definitely want to do that first so we can bless the room child. So, father God, we thank you for this moment, for this connection and for this opportunity to grow together. Lord God, bless Angela as she pours into us today. Let her words reach the ears that need to hear them the most, lord God, and let somebody walk away from this conversation ready to speak life over themselves in Jesus' mighty, mighty name. Amen, amen, amen, amen, amen. Okay, so, angela, for those who might not know you and other than what I've already said, tell us who Angela Anderson is in your own words.

Speaker 3:

Oh, wow. Well, Angela Anderson is a woman of God. I am a wife, I am a mother, I'm a daughter, I am a friend. Of course, I'm an author, a content creator, an influence, a literary coach, a mentor, an editor just all the things. I love the creative space. I love just being able to pour into other individuals. I love just having that positive mindset and just being able to walk in who God created me to be. That's, that's me in a, in a nutshell, and, jacqueline, you can probably say the same. It's always harder when people you know, when you're kind of like saying things about yourself. It's so much easier to say great things about other people.

Speaker 2:

Yes, and somebody asked me about me. I'm like up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up up when reading your book. Okay, this is the first question I definitely want to ask what inspired you to create a 21-day affirmation journey and why did you choose that specific format? Because a lot of people they choose 30 days, so what prompted you to do a 21 day?

Speaker 3:

Well, first of all, jacqueline, thank you for asking that question, and there is a running joke. I know you are familiar with Pat Simmons. Pat Simmons is also one of the 25 or 2025 authors of July edition, and so I have a literary, we have a show, not necessarily a literary show we have a show called Fun Friday with the Girls and, oh my goodness, hi Jennifer, thank you for joining us.

Speaker 2:

Hey Robin.

Speaker 3:

I'm Robin from the Peeps. Thank you, thank you guys so much for joining us. And so they have a running joke. They're like Angela, you owe us nine more days. Where is the other nine days? But for me, jacqueline, the 21 days challenge, or they go through their 21 day journey that even after that, they would have created a habit, and every day they are showing up for themselves, they are speaking up for themselves, they are being creative, they are saying that it is okay to show up for myself on a daily basis.

Speaker 2:

So that's how that 21 day got in there.

Speaker 3:

Now that title the Power of I Am is so bold.

Speaker 2:

Right. How did you decide which I am statements would make it into the book?

Speaker 3:

Well, pretty much with this particular book, the Power of power I am we'll start with the title um, again, it's twofold. I mean, first of all, the lewis says you know, I am the, I am um, or what have you. But think about, uh, that defining moment of things that comes after the word I am, um, when you are speaking things into existence, I am, am, and then whatever comes after that is so bold and it's so powerful. Whatever you put after that, whether it's positive or negative, I choose to put the positive or what have you for that. And so for me it was important to make that statement, for people to know that it's okay, you know that the power of I am and the importance of all the things that come after I am as as well.

Speaker 3:

So, um, in writing this particular book, it was actually um, put inside of me, um, eight years prior, about to be nine years prior now, um, and so it was one of those things where you know how sometimes the Lord would give you a gift or give you something and you will start. And so I actually started this book and I ended on day eight. I was like, okay, I'm gonna get back to it. And it was like eight years later and it was like Angela, the time is now you have to tell the people, or what have you? And so when I sat down, it was a Saturday, I never forget. I sat down at the computer, I pulled it up and, jacqueline, you probably know, as an author, I mean everything begins in a flow. I mean my hands was just typing, I knew what I was going to do, I knew what statements I was going to use. The thought for the day, each day, that came to me as well, and before I knew it I was at the end of the book.

Speaker 3:

I had some trusted other individuals. I reached out with them and I was like I finished my book and they was like wait, what I was, like I'm done. But of course you know after that, you know it had to go to the editor, all that stuff to be. You know all the behind the scenes of putting a book together. So I did go through all of those things the cover design, I mean all the things that go into putting a book together.

Speaker 3:

It was just an amazing, amazing process. It was work, but it was a process that I really enjoyed and I was so happy to be able to put this out into the world. I even had some trusted early readers that even in the beginning of the book, it's like some of the things that they had to say about the book. So they got the book in like this raw form and they was able to read it and they was able to, you know, to endorse the book as well. So there you have it the Power of I Am 21 Days of Affirming you, and you know what it was a great book.

Speaker 2:

It was a great read, and one thing I love about, like affirmation books or, you know, self-help books and devotional books, they're not always so super big. So, you know, have to process a lot, and I saw that you have you have, because I have it somewhere, but you have 64 pages. Every word counts, though, guys. Ok, why was it so important to you to keep it short, sweet and powerful?

Speaker 3:

are sweet and powerful. One of the things for me to keep this book short and also stand with the 21 days. Okay, think about it, jacqueline. We busy, everybody busy, they just busy.

Speaker 3:

So think about if you've got something that's quick in the morning, when you're doing your meditation, when you're reading your word, when you're spending time with the Lord, when you're first getting up in the morning. That's usually a busy time for people. So, hey, I mean you can take about three minutes. Three minutes, guys, I mean if it want to take you longer, if you want to kind of go in deeper and take notes and stuff like that, but it will not take you long to read one of the days, read the day, read the quote, go to the thought of the day, you on to the next thing. Or you may want to do it at night, right before you go to bed. What are you pouring into your spirit? Same thing, it is in and out and it's a powerful burst of pouring into yourself and pouring into your spirit. That does not take a lot.

Speaker 3:

Some people, they read the book, they read all 21 days and then they go back and they do it on a daily basis. Also, there is a reference guide in the back of the book because, in case that you don't want to go in order, you may have a certain day that spoke to you that you may want to go back and refer to. You can go to the back of the book and do that, or you can just open it up on any of the days and pick it up and, like I said, it's short, it's a quote at the beginning and then there's a thought for the day to give you something to think about and something to meditate on just a little bit later. So that was the importance of making it short and sweet Absolutely Short, sweet but powerful.

Speaker 2:

Short and cute and sweet and powerful. Ok period, I'm going to go ahead and take a one minute and 14 second break to hear a word from our sponsor, and then we're going to get back with more of Angela Anderson right here on the Listen Linda podcast.

Speaker 5:

Her hands were soft but they were strong. Her voice, gentle but full of power. She didn't wear a cape, she wore a sweater that smelled like Sunday morning pancakes and prayer. She taught us more than just how to tie our shoes. She taught us how to stand tall when life tries to knock us down. And now it's our turn to tell the world, Featuring real stories from real women from every background and every corner of the world, Because love like this has no borders. Because when Grandma speaks, the world listens. Join the Grandma's Hands Anthology and give your grandma an ode she can be proud of and one your legacy will be known for for generations to come. Contact dr jacqueline cox for more information. A portion of the proceeds will go towards the walk for lupus now foundation okay, and that was of course the sponsor me, so I have a new anthology coming out.

Speaker 2:

It is a children's book anthology, but it's for grandma's hands, and we are giving a portion of the proceeds to Walkford Lupus Now Foundation, which I'm a part of. I'm an advocate and an ambassador, for both of my grandmothers suffer from lupus and I now have it, so it's something that's really near and dear to my heart. So you want to join? Hit me in my inbox, it should be right up there. Contact me for more information on how you can be a part. Every person who participates will have their own children's book, fully, full illustrations, everything that you can take out and turn it into your own children's book. So it's a really cool project. I'm doing all the illustrations, of course, so it's going to be something phenomenal. It's not just for Black women, it's not just for Black men, it's for everybody, all cultures. I want to know what your grandmother taught you, okay? So back to Miss Angela Anderson. If someone finishes day 21 of the book of the Power of I Am, what do you want them to see or feel?

Speaker 3:

in themselves 21, or even if they've read any of the days in the Power of I Am 21 days of affirming you, I definitely want them to feel more inspired. I want them to feel empowered and I want them to feel motivated and to know that it's okay to take time out for themselves. I tell people all the time self-love, self-care is so important and I always share with individuals. You cannot pour from an empty cup. I know sometimes we try, Sometimes we are running on fumes and we're giving people fumes or what have you, but I tell them you cannot pour from an empty cup. So the Power of I Am 21 Days of Affirming you is just one way of refueling your cup on a daily basis. So after they finish that book and read that last page, that's what I want them to do is to have a refueling of themselves, but now they can actually have an overflow.

Speaker 2:

Absolutely. I want right now to kind of focus. We're going to shift the focus a little bit to, um, the publishing portion. So, um, talk to us about publish the publishing journey, uh, with Angela Anderson Presents, like, what was that process like for you?

Speaker 3:

um, this book is self-published. I am am an indie author, so, again, but being in the industry and being around other literary individuals, other authors, other people that are editors, other people that do marketing I don't know if you know, jacqueline, but I also teach workshops, I do literary coaching, all of that stuff as well. So, having all those things in my background, but it afforded me to have resources of knowing, like, who to reach out to for editing, who to reach out to for because, yes, even though I do editing, I also and even with that.

Speaker 3:

I even reached out to people I know and say who do you know that can do that? And I had some amazing people that gave me some great, highly recommended people and I was able to utilize those resources from people that I know to have people to edit my books. And my book was professionally edited. I did have a professional to do my cover. I had a professional photo shoot. I mean, I did all the things that I needed to do to have this book produced and have it to be produced in excellence or what have you.

Speaker 3:

Of course, I had a budget. I did create a budget or what have you, and I knew that there were certain things that I needed to be in the budget and I keep saying the word having it edited, my book being edited. That was a part of the budget, like off top, no question asked. I knew that that was one of the things that I had to get done. I had some people to kind of look over early. I also had people that in that I was able to reach out to to kind of get their feedback. I did some market research on different things. So I put in the work, if that makes sense.

Speaker 2:

Yes, you did, and it was. It's phenomenal. Can you hold that book up again?

Speaker 3:

Even being in the industry. Oh my goodness, there are so many things that I didn't know. So there were, there were times where I had to reach out to individuals and ask them questions. Okay, well, how do we know what's the best way to do this? How do I do that? You know, as far as distributing, how do I need to? You know, work this way, all these things I was not afraid to ask those people that were in, that was in my circle, because, hey, they were experts.

Speaker 2:

Yes, hold your book up one more time because I want people to see the quality of the book. I wish I had it because I would be holding up an absolutely beautiful, beautiful book. I love it, girl. You know, when I got, when you sent me them pictures, girl, it gave me life. You better check out the cover chat. This girl is beautiful. I was was like girl, you better girl, thank you. She was like huh, thank you. Yes, girl, I loved it. I loved it. I loved it. Now, what was one? I am statement from your own book that has completely transformed you.

Speaker 3:

Let's see, and I think I was joking with you when we did the written interview for the magazine, I was like really, I was like really, jacqueline, just one. There are so many in here, but let's see what's one that I know one day 12. That one definitely speaks to me. It says be the original masterpiece that you are created to be. It's time out for counterfeits and the thought for the day that goes with that one. It says a simple definition of counterfeit is a fake version of an original item.

Speaker 3:

You, my friend, are an original. No one can beat you being you. Your assignment is to be the original masterpiece that you were called to be, and that even goes into what the word of God says in Psalms, where it says you are fearfully and wonderfully made. And so I am real big on that of being the best person, the best version that you can be, and being original. Nobody can beat you being you. Think about your, your, your fingerprint. You have your own fingerprint and the same thing about you no one can beat you at being you. So that's one of the ones that really really helps me.

Speaker 2:

You know what I love that, because I am a firm believer of being myself. You know what I love that because I am a firm believer of being myself. Child, I'm a firm believer of being. Nobody robbed me for my destiny, although they tried. They failed. They failed because they followed me and me. I tell people all the time people will try to be me. They go where they still stand. Child because I do so much, please. I tell people all the time caution when trying to copy me. Caution, because I do so much. You will run yourself raggedy honey. You will find yourself stopping in your tracks. Like. You know what I give up she too much. She just too much. She do too much. She just too much Every time much. She just too much every time you look up this girl got something.

Speaker 3:

And, jackie, I have a friend of mine. Um, I have a friend of mine. I remember I went to one of her events and she was talking about, you know, like a cup of tea, and she was like you know what, I may not be yours a cup of tea, but I'm somebody's cup of tea. So I will borrow that from her. I feel the same way. I may not be for everybody, I may not be everybody's cup of tea, but I'm somebody's cup of tea, okay.

Speaker 2:

I'm going to tell you about me. My husband, like mushroom coffee honey. I ain't no cup of tea, I'm his mushroom coffee honey. Look, I say that all the time. I'm like a huge personality, right. But I'm very straightforward. I'm sharp shooter.

Speaker 2:

Okay, I try to sometimes sugarcoat, but it just don't ever work for me. You know, I'm just who I am and I'm not, like you say, everybody. I sometimes I may run people the wrong way. Check, I give it to you. I don't put, I don't put fancy lights in front of it, because I wasn't raised that way, even though I watch what I say now and I try to live with grace. But I'm still who I am and I'm not going to be. We're not for everybody, but I feel like I'm for somebody and God made me specifically because of the purpose that he has for me.

Speaker 2:

I'm supposed to meet people where they are. You know that's my calling, that's my gift. I meet people where they are. I don't look through these glasses and try to make people be who I feel they should be. You get what I'm saying.

Speaker 2:

Like, I meet you where you are. I tell you what God needs from me and hopefully that helps you to turn your life around if you're on the right path or if you're on the wrong path. And if you're on the right path, come follow me or I'll follow you. Let me try to get to where you are. I'm not a gatekeeper, but at the same time, don't try to carbon copy me. If try to carbon copy me, that's copyright infringement, that's my intellectual property. We will have a problem. But I'm in knowing that everybody is their own person, and when I read, when I read your book, that one stood out to me the most too. I was like this girl is me. Oh, wow, okay, not necessarily like, but you know how, like, people connect on certain levels and I felt like, wow, it's like you know how. Yeah, yeah, get it somebody, finally get it you get what I'm saying.

Speaker 2:

I know I'm not crazy now, because this person wrote it here, right here, plain as day, in this book oh, jacqueline that's what the book was about.

Speaker 3:

That is definitely what the book is about for people to find, whatever day it is I mean, it may be more than one day but to find themselves in that day or what have you. I have some people a workbook is coming. I know they're like Angela, when is this workbook coming? But a workbook is coming where they can even dig a little bit deeper. But think about, jackie, how that quote of that day and I'm sure when you read the thought of the day, how that made you feel you know as a person, how it resonated with you. And that's one of the things that I definitely want this book to do is to continue to inspire and to continue to encourage individuals and for them to have that wow moment or find themselves in one of these days of the book.

Speaker 2:

Absolutely, you did phenomenal. Now I want to say you're not just an author, You're a podcaster, event host and a literary professional, as you stated before. What kind of conversations are you bringing to the table on Angela Anderson Presents? I mean, I know, I watch it, but for the people who don't chat.

Speaker 3:

Oh, my goodness, you know what. Each author is different. I mean, you never know what tea they're going to spill. Okay, and I have one of the things that I love about the show. I mean there are indie authors, there are traditionally published authors, there are hybrid authors, there's New York Times bestselling authors, usa Today bestselling authors, emma Award authors. There are individuals that this is their debut novel that are on the show. I have fiction authors, mainly fiction. Every now and then I'll have a nonfiction author that comes to the show and they talk about their new release or a book that they've had that may have been out for a while and they spill the tea we include. The audience is very interactive with that and in these interactive conversations sometimes the audience may have questions. I won't. What have you? Hey Audrey, yes, cvlr, I love me some CVLR and all the people I get at CVLR as well. Cvlr guys at the Christian Book Lovers Retreat and so on the show. The cool thing about it is you never know the tea that's going to be dropped. Okay.

Speaker 2:

Well, I want to. I want to hone into some other skills that you have, um, so um. You, I know that you do like event planning and book marketing. Um, how, um, how do your skills in those help you to connect with your audience on a deeper level?

Speaker 3:

Oh, my goodness, those particular skills go like way, way, way, way back or what have you. And so those are one of the gifts and the talents that I have been blessed with and I've always been a personable person, if that makes sense, or a people person that loves people and love. I've always loved events. I've always loved it started like I would be like for our family. I would plan like our trips and vacations. I was on our family reunion committee. I mean just different things like that. I also plan weddings. I've been a wedding coordinator. I mean just all those things as well. But then I was able to coordinate it into my love for books and probably about eight years ago, somewhere around there, I actually started the Literary Cafe. The Literary Cafe pre-pandemic was actually in person, it was in person events and it was like with a script. So I would have in person, in-person events and it was like with a script. So I would have in-person literary cafe events. One of them we had was like a. It was like a sip and paint in-person event. Oh, my goodness, I had author Jor Avery, I had author Reese Ryan and we painted their book covers. And then, of course, in addition to painting their book covers. Of course, they told a little bit about the books they read from their books. I mean, it was an amazing literary cafe event Another in-person one that we had that I absolutely loved. It was a romance one, done in February and I had nine authors.

Speaker 3:

Ok, jacqueline, you ready for this? We had a shoe fashion show. First of all, you know you think about me, jacqueline, I am a shoe person. Shoe fashion show First of all, if you know anything about me, jacqueline, I am a shoe person. Okay, shoes is my thing. And we had a shoe fashion show where the characters of the book, we chose one of their shoes and we had real models. We had a. They walked the runway, all this good stuff, and they modeled these shoes and we gave a description for these particular shoes. And, jacqueline, I was in the fashion. I had on these red pumps. It was a book by Harice Hodges. Honey, I had on these red pumps to represent. All I'm going to say is Anderson loves those red pumps, but anyway, we're going to get back to the subject at hand. So, as a person was fine.

Speaker 2:

Okay, you back, you kind of froze at the end. Are you there? Are you there?

Speaker 4:

Speaker 2:

All right, so we are back. Sorry for the technical difficulties, but desperate times calls for different measures. She fell so I had to hurry up and put a commercial on there until she got back. So we are back now with Angela Anderson, Is that?

Speaker 3:

right, you're back.

Speaker 2:

Yes, yes, yes, so, okay. So, since releasing the book, what's one testimony or message from a reader that really stuck with you.

Speaker 3:

Oh my goodness, Jacqueline, I'm so glad that you asked me that, and I've actually gotten several where for people they may send me an email or they may send me a DM by their email. It was like, oh my goodness, the red today.

Speaker 2:

I think. I think it's your Internet connection. It's kind of we didn't get the last part.

Speaker 3:

Let's see. I was saying that. Sorry about that, I'm not sure what's going on. I was saying that whenever, if someone whether they email me or they DM me, and they share about one of the days that was beneficial to them, it can be like at that moment or that day, or just read it through it, that is always hmm, okay, we got you, now you bet.

Speaker 2:

OK, I'm not sure what's going on. Sometimes you know that happens, just like the signal If you got, if you got your Bluetooth phone while your Wi-Fi is on. Sometimes it does that too, yeah, so let's what's next for Angela Anderson any new books, events or projects that we should be watching for?

Speaker 3:

Oh, my goodness, August is definitely busy for me, but of course there is a workbook. It will be coming soon. I will have a date really, really soon for you guys with this workbook. I know they like it Every time she do do an interview. She said workbook is coming. But I promise you guys, uh, a work and book. Uh, that is coming out. Um, I probably can tell the title of the book it's called is hair kit talk by Tim Johnson. Y'all are in for a treat. I cannot wait for that book to hit again. It it's called A Paraclete Talk by Tim Johnson. That will be coming really, really soon.

Speaker 3:

This month I have a couple of events. I will be headed to Kansas City. I will be teaching some workshops there. I always love to be in that teaching environment and teaching and all of that good stuff as well.
