Through the Rain: How Survivors Turn Pain into Purpose
Rain can destroy, but it can also nourish—this profound paradox forms the heart of "Through the Rain," a groundbreaking devotional anthology curated by Dr. Jacqueline Cox. The collection features raw, powerful testimonies from women who've weathered life's most devastating storms and emerged not merely surviving, but transformed.
"This devotional is for the woman hiding her tears from her kids, the man who's afraid to admit that he's tired, the teen who feels like no one hears them," shares Dr. Cox, revealing that this project was born from her own seasons of storm—loss, betrayal, grief, illness, and heartbreak. When God whispered "write, heal, and release," she answered the call, bringing together voices that speak authentically to pain and redemption.
What makes this anthology extraordinary isn't polished perfection but its raw honesty. Contributors like Prophetess Leah M Kelly who teaches discernment in downpours, Dr. Audrey M Moses who vulnerably shares her marriage dissolution and restoration, and Elena Maria who honors her sister lost to domestic violence—each brings their unique perspective on weathering storms. Their chapters don't just tell stories of survival; they offer spiritual anchors for readers facing their own tempests.
The devotional, releasing winter 2025, stands as testament that our most painful seasons often yield the most profound growth. As Dr. Cox beautifully puts it, "The rain did not ruin you, it revealed you and baby, you didn't just survive the storm, you became someone brand new in it." Pre-order your copy from any featured co-author for $30 (shipping included), or if you have your own storm testimony to share, reach out about becoming one of the final three contributors. Remember, God's glory always grows in wet soil.
First name, my name on it. I'm gonna paint my tears away. Got no cause to look back. I'm looking for me already Say.
Speaker 1:The thing about love Is that it's not enough. It's. The only thing it brings you is pain. Comes a time when we could all make a change. Just let it go, let it blow, let it blow, let it blow. Everything's gonna work out right, you know. Just let it go. Everything's gonna work out right, you know. Let it go, let it blow, let it blow, let it go, just let it go.
Speaker 1:Baby, don't nobody want no broke heart. Don't nobody want no time to lose it. Oh no, I don't matter. We deserve it, but we can't demand it without change. Comes a time when we go our own way. Let it go, let it go, let it go. Everything's gonna work out right, let it go, let it go, let it go. Everything's gonna work out right now. Let it go, let it go, let it go, let it go, let it go, let it go. It's love, just let it go. Oh yeah, sometimes love can work out right right now. Sometimes you'll never know it. You're never, ever gonna know it. But if it brings you pain in your life, don't be afraid to let it go, let it go, let it go, let it go, everything's gonna work out right, you know. Let it go. No, no, no, let it go, let it go, just let it go. I wanna let it go, let it go. Oh, let it go, let it go, let it go, let it go, let it go, let it go, let it go baby, hey, hey, hey.
Speaker 2:My beautiful people, it is your girl, your host, your literary duola, your best-selling visionary, Dr Jacqueline Cox. And this is Listen Linda Radio. I am back, season six. What's up Tonight? We are not just playing music, we're watering souls, because the rain that came to drown us it actually grew us, and now I get to introduce y'all to something so sacred, so full of power and so personal. It is through the rain, the devotional anthology, and it is coming this winter 2025. But before we get started on that, y'all know how I have to do when I do what I do. Okay, we have to go in first with prayer. Father God, we thank you for this every storm that did not kill us but instead reveal you to us. We thank you for the pages of this devotional filled with tears, triumph and testimonies that shift atmospheres. Bless every author, every reader and everyone under the sound of my voice. Tonight. Let this be a moment of healing, hope and holy ground In Jesus' mighty name, amen.
Speaker 1:Thank you. On a perfect day, I know that I can count on you. When that's not possible. Tell me, can you endure a storm, cause I knew somebody who would stand by me Through the good times and bad times. You'll always, always be right there Sunny days. Everybody loves me.
Speaker 1:Tell me, baby, can you stand the rain? Can you stand the rain? Stars will come. Give me no, give me no. Can you stand the rain? Love unconditional. I'm not asking just for you, girl, to make it last. I'll do whatever I need to do to love, but I need somebody to stand by me. Somebody stand by me, girl, when it's time, oh my, she will always be right there for me. Sunny days. Everybody love them. Tell me, can you stand up? Can you stand the rain? No pressure, no pressure from me, baby, cause I want you and I need you and I love you. Tell me, baby, can you stand alone? Will you be there for me? Come on, baby, let's go. Come on, baby.
Speaker 1:Can you stand alone? Can you stand alone? Can you stand the rain? Can you stand the rain If you need it now? Can you stand the storm? It comes for sure. Can you stand the rain? Can you stand the rain? Can you stand the pain? Can you stand the pain? Can you stand the pain? Can you stand the pain? Can you stand by me? Can you stand by me? This thing goes so fast. Can you stand by me? Can you stand by me?
Speaker 2:Yes, that was one of my favorite raindrop songs. With new edition, can you stand the rain? And while we're on rain, right, because the title is through the rain, let me just be real. This is not just a devotional y'all, this is a movement. This is for every person who's ever had to cry silently in the shower, shout in their car or whisper God, why me? In the middle of the night. I didn't just curate this book, I lived it. I prayed through every submission, I cried reading these chapters and I knew instantly this book was going to change lives. I can see it in his eyes.
Speaker 1:And he's been avoiding me all day, seems as though he wants to cry, cry, and he's been acting with his strength. He starts talking and I tune him out. Yeah, it doesn't matter anyway, cause I know, as soon as I talk about him, I knew he was gonna say when the wind stopped blowing. The wind stopped blowing, I knew it's coming for you, just like a hurricane. Just like a hurricane. The way you break everything that comes in your way, just like a hurricane. Just like a hurricane. The way you broke my heart and I woke up with a bang After the hurricane. Baby, I'm not surprised. Oh I. You said just what I thought you would. And it hurts, I ain't gonna lie, oh I, but it doesn't hurt as bad as it hurts. Bye, know, it's coming like a hurricane, like a hurricane.
Speaker 1:The way you break everything that comes in your way, just like a hurricane. Just like a hurricane. The way you broke my heart and I woke up with a bang after the hurricane. Oh, oh. Now my life is shattered and I'm left to pick up the pieces and find a new beginning and put it back together again after the hurricane. Thank you, bye. The way you broke my heart and now I'm in with the pain After the hurricane.
Speaker 2:After the hurricane yes, that was my girl, jasmine Sullivan, with After the Hurricane. After the hurricane, and now I want you guys to meet the storm survivors. Here are a few of the women Now this is not all of them, okay, because I can't give y'all everything in one tape but a few of the women. I want to introduce you to some of their chapters. So the first one I want to introduce you guys to is prophetess Leah M Kelly. Her chapter is Raindrops of Revelation and baby, baby. She teaches us how to discern in the downpour. Okay, her chapter is off the chain.
Speaker 2:Then you got Dr Audrey M Moses. Now she wrote the Storm Within, when One Becomes Two, and this is really to me a raw, reflective piece of inner battles and spiritual breakthrough. And she also kind of speaks on how she was married, got a divorce and end up coming back so many years later and they are happily ever after now. So very beautiful piece. But she really digs deep and gives her all in this chapter Phenomenal, phenomenal job. Then we have Dr Letitia Perry and she delivers soaked in rain, rising in power, and let me tell you it is a whole testimony on how to be drenched in purpose. Then we got my girl, my poet, natasha Haggins, and she gave us twofold freedom and leaked and liberation. My journey home. It's emotional, it's redemptive and unapologetically free, I can say that.
Speaker 2:Then we have Elena Maria, who's a really good friend of mine. She shines through the clouds in her chapter. Her love still shines after the rain. And I will tell you now. This one is um, paying homage to her sister, um. And Elena Maria is no shy person from this show. She's been on plenty of times and we actually did a commemorative show about her sister who died at the hands of domestic violence, and so she talks about that in this chapter and this one. It wrecked me y'all, it really did. And of course, we have Tia Strickland. She offers a beautiful healing balm and beauty after the rain, because sometimes the rainbow isn't in the sky, it really is in the survival. Okay, so next up, I want to play for you guys. Adele, set fire to the rain, let's go with Bill.
Speaker 1:It was dark and I was over, until you kissed my lips and you saved me my hands. They were strong, but my knees were far too weak To stand in your arms Without falling into your feet. But there's a side to you that I never knew. Never knew All the things you say. They were never true, never true. And the games you played, you would always, would always win, I would always been always win.
Speaker 1:But I said fire to rain, watch the floors of the next to face when it burn. Will I cry, cause I heard it screaming out your name, your name? When I'm with you, I could stay there, close my eyes For you Forever, you and me together. Nothing gets better, cause there's a side To you that I never, never knew All the things you'd say. They were never knew. Never knew all the things you'd say. They were never true, never true when the games you'd play you would always and always win. But I'll say fire the rain, watch the paradise touch your face when it burns. Will I cry, cause I heard it screaming out your name is. I can't help myself from looking for your love. I'll set fire to the rain.
Speaker 2:Watch it pour down at your face when it burns. Will I cry, cause I heard it screaming. Aren't you going to hang? I'll set fire to. The rain is the last time, the last time. Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh oh, baby, baby, baby, baby, baby, baby, baby. Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, baby, baby, baby, baby, baby, baby, baby. Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh. Thank you, yes, yes, yes, that was Adele, with Set Fire to the Rain, and sometimes that's like what I want to do, right?
Speaker 2:So I haven't given you guys the title of my chapter yet and I won't. You got to buy the book to figure out what my chapter title is, but I do want to give you guys a little piece of my personal journey as the visionary. Now, you all know I've walked through my own seasons of storm, lost, betrayal, grief, illness, heartbreak. But still God whispered to me write, heal and release. This book is the answer to that call, and every woman in it has shown up with her scars still healing, mascara still smudged and said here I am, lord, use this. And that's what makes this devotional different, because it's not perfect, right, but it's powerful. And speaking of not being perfect, but being powerful.
Speaker 1:I want to play for you guys, mariah Carey, through the Rain, because we all can make it through the rain, because we all can make it in the rain, with nowhere to run, when you're distraught and in pain without anyone, when you keep crying out to be saved but nobody comes and you feel so far away that you just can't find your way home. You can get there alone, it's okay. I can make it through the rain. I can stand up once again on my own and I know that I'm strong enough to mend, thank you. And if you keep falling down, don't you dare give in. You will arise safe and sound. So keep pressing on, step by step, and you'll find what you need to breathe in what you say.
Speaker 1:I can make it through the ring, I can stand up once again on my own and I know that I'm strong enough to mend. And every time I feel free, I hold tight to my faith and I live one more day and I make it through the rain. And when the rain falls, as shadows grow close, don't be afraid. There's nothing you can't face. And should they tell you You'll never pull through, don't hesitate. Stand tall and say I can make it through the rain. I can stand up once again On my own and I know that I'm strong enough to match. And every time I feel afraid, I hold tight to my faith and I live one more day and I make it through the rain. I can make it through the rain and I live one more day and night. I can make it through the rain.
Speaker 2:Oh, yes, that was Mariah Carey, with Make it Through the Rain, through the Rain. Why you need this book? You need this book because this devotional is for the woman hiding her tears from her kids, the man who's afraid to admit that he's tired, the teen who feels like no one hears them, the mama grieving silently, the soul waiting on the storm to pass. It's for you, you're not too broken, you're not too far gone and, baby, you are definitely not alone. And with that I want to play a song, and I want to make sure that I'm intentional with this one. This one is called Angel Cry, with Mariah Carey and Ne-Yo.
Speaker 1:Let's play that one right now, if you say we could have made everything okay, but we just threw the blade back and forth. We treated love like a sport. The final blow it's all or I'm still on the ground. I couldn't have prepared myself for this fall, shattered in pieces, curled on the floor. The natural love conquers all. Remember we used to touch the sky and lightning. Don't strike the same place twice.
Speaker 1:When you and I said goodbye, I found the angels cry Through all the lows. Again. We let it drip In a storm. Every night I feel the angels cry. I'm making our love be revived. Bring it back and we gon' make it right.
Speaker 1:Only answers, trying to survive as the angels cry. How can we be forever and always? You were serenity. You took away the bad days, didn't always treat you right, but it was okay. I do some stupid and you still stay with me.
Speaker 1:But you can only go for so long Doing the one you claim the love wrong Before too much is enough. You look up, find your love gone and we were so good together. How come we could not weather this storm and just do better? Why do we say goodbye? We could not weather this storm and just do better. Why do we say goodbye? It's lightning. Don't strike the same place twice. When you and I said goodbye, all the angels cry True, love's a gift. We let it drift in the storm Bye, only us just trying to survive as the angels cry Baby, I'm this. I don't know love, don't know about me. Got a ride in? Ooh, I'm reaching for you. Baby, I'm this. I don't know love, don't know about we. Got a ride, I got it, I got it. You're on the side Learning. Don't strike the same place. You were, you and I said goodbye, but the angels cried so long again, bye.
Speaker 2:Yes, that was one of my favorite songs and that was Angel Cry Remix. That is Mariah Carey, that is my girl, miss Mimi, and Mr Neo with Angels Cry Remix. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. Speaker 1:Sometimes it's soft as a misty flame that gently touches my soul. It pulls the fire that burns in me and lights and balloons control. So just break down. And I said we lose control. So just rain down on me. Let your love just fall like rain. Just rain on me. Just rain down on me. Let your love just shower me, just rain on me, full of dynamic capacity. My passion's about to explode. I can't escape. It's surrounding me. I'm caught in a storm and I don't need no shelter from Rain down on me.
