Ask the Publisher: Republish Like A Pro
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Your book isn’t frozen in time just because it already hit publish. We kick things off by celebrating Fee Davis and the breakout success of Alabaster Heart Deluxe Edition, then we answer a question we hear constantly from authors: can you republish your own book as a deluxe edition if you previously used a different publisher?
We walk through what republishing really means and why it’s often a sign of author growth, not a mistake. If you’ve outwritten your first version, found typos, outgrown your original cover, or finally understand your voice, audience, and branding, a revised edition or expanded edition can be the clean, polished version readers deserve. We also talk about what makes a deluxe edition worth buying: updated content, bonus chapters, exclusive material, stronger formatting, and a more intentional design and story experience.
Then we get practical about author rights and publishing contracts. We explain why owning the rights to your story and controlling your royalties changes everything, and why you should clearly label the release so readers aren’t confused. We also touch on what to do if you don’t have rights or you had a bad publishing experience, including safer ways to revamp without crossing legal lines.
If you found this helpful, subscribe, share it with an author friend, and leave a quick review so more writers can find Ask the Publisher.
Welcome Back And Quick Reset
SPEAKER_00Welcome, welcome, welcome. I know y'all have been missing me. Y'all been gone for a couple of days, but I had to regroup, refresh, and get some work taken care of. So before I start, I just
Celebrating A Bestseller Deluxe Launch
SPEAKER_00want to say congratulations to Fee Davis, the author of Alabaster Heart Deluxe Edition. She just signed on with Listen Linda, and the book is a number one new release and bestseller in five categories right now, in two formats. That is ebook and paperback. Okay, you can still grab that ebook right now for 99 cents if you can, because the price will change soon. Like they say, the price has changed. Amen. Yesterday's price is not today's price, so hurry up and get it. Congratulations, Fee Davis, for trusting, listening to publishing to revamp your book, get it to where you would like it to be, and get the eyes on it that you know that God wants to have it. Okay. Thank you so much for that. Now, speaking of revamps, I wanted um to answer a question because I was doing the promo for my revamp services and I got a
The Republish As Deluxe Question
SPEAKER_00question from someone. She asked, I actually could I put this on Ask the Publisher, and she wanted to remain anonymous. So I do want to um still use the question. And today's question is um, can I republish my own book as a deluxe edition if I used a different publisher? So
Why Authors Re-Release Better Editions
SPEAKER_00the answer is absolutely, right? Um, and contrary to what some people think, republishing your own work is not always because something went wrong. Um, some authors simply outwrote the first version. Okay, see, when people, when many people publish their first book, they're still learning. They're still learning their voice, their audience, their branding. Um, they're still learning um their storytelling style, and they're publishing it itself. They're they're learning all of that, right? And after some time passes, they look back and they realize, like, you know what? This book deserved way more than what it got with the first publisher. Um maybe the cover no longer reflects your vision. Maybe the formatting looked and felt rushed, right? Maybe there are typos, maybe the story needed a deeper emotion, maybe your writing has evolved, or maybe you have new revelations, testimonies, chapters, or lessons to add. And if you own 100% rights to your story, um you absolutely can republish it. Absolutely. A lot of authors today are releasing deluxe editions, revised editions, expanded editions, anniversary editions, I mean editions, and collector's editions. And readers love it. They absolutely love it because they know that they're getting updated content, bonus chapters, exclusive material that they didn't get in the beginning, much better design and a more polished storytelling. Now, yes, one people, uh, one reason some people may republish is after a bad publishing experience or royalty issue. But another major reason is just simply growth. Um, sometimes the first version was the survival mode, the second version becomes a legacy mode, right? That'll preach right there. And let me tell you something else. You are allowed to revisit your own work and improve it. Musicians remaster their albums, okay? Um, directors release extended cuts, brands, brands relaunch products, so authors can absolutely revisit their stories
Rights Contracts And Clear Labeling
SPEAKER_00too. Okay. Um, just make sure you own the rights, your contract allows it. The new edition contains meaningful updates or changes, and you mark it clearly as a revised or deluxe edition because this isn't about confusion, it's usually about elevation. And honestly, sometimes the re-released versions become the masterpiece you originally envisioned in your mind. Okay, so today's question again was uh the today's um ask the publisher question was can I republish my own book as a deluxe edition if I own the rights, the rights to my story, and you have a uh 100% rights to your royalties.
What To Do Without Rights
SPEAKER_00You absolutely can. Now, if you don't have those rights, but you want to revamp it, um, you can create a new cover, you can keep some of the old content or update it, revise the content that's already in there and add some extra stuff and just retitle it. Let them have that. If they they went out of their way to scam you, um, offered you things and packages that they are not delivering, you absolutely can still do that, but and it's a way to do that. Um, hey Sharice girl, what's going on? Um, so yes, that is my girl Sharice King over on Facebook. Thank you so much for tuning in and thank everybody on
