Whether your beer is in a bottle can or glass kick back and relax, it's better on draft.
00:00:17 KEN
So welcome everybody to episode 333 of the better on draft podcast. My name is Ken. Thank you so much for joining us.
00:00:24 KEN
Again, on this Black Friday, probably the 8th time we've done this show on Black Friday, talking about beer, beer releases and what is going on in the industry. Let me introduce.
00:00:36 KEN
My Co hosts.
00:00:37 KEN
Who are with me today? Starting with Wendy. Wendy.
00:00:40 KEN
What are you drinking over there?
00:00:42 WENDY
Well, I was lucky enough to run into a goose island bananas foster, so I thought I would start with that.
00:00:53 KEN
And Dan, how about?
00:00:54 DAN
You I can't believe people are buying that this is the worst year for those releases. I almost cracked an eagle rare, but I've got the standard Bourbon County because it's pretty damn good.
00:01:04 KEN
This year, yeah, this year.
00:01:07 KEN
Alright, and for myself, I have a Bourbon County 2019 that I cracked open not going.
00:01:15 KEN
To share this with anyone because.
00:01:17 KEN
I don't have to.
00:01:19 KEN
We have with us or we're going to try.
00:01:22 KEN
This again brand new host take two is probably take in regards to new.
00:01:24 DAN
862.
00:01:30 DAN
Hosts in regards.
00:01:31 KEN
To Ohh damn it, it's been a.
00:01:33 KEN
Minute since I've said.
00:01:34 KEN
That bingo square. Take your drink.
00:01:37 DAN
We've got rob. Rob.
00:01:38 KEN
Welcome back to the show. Why don't you give an introduction? Tell us what you're drinking and a little bit about yourself where you live. Some of your favorite breweries.
00:01:47 KEN
By you, that kind of stuff.
00:01:49 ROB
Sure. I'm rob. I am currently drinking a Grizz coffee brown from Alaskan, and as I said last time, they don't distribute to Indiana where I live, I'm outside of Indianapolis, but I was recently up in Madison, WI and I mulled myself some beer from that trip. So as far as locals.
00:02:09 ROB
Well, my.
00:02:10 ROB
My favorite brewery is that I visit the most would be traders brewing up northwest Indianapolis, but that's mostly because I go up there and play trivia with a bunch of friends. I love sun king. I love tax man. Those are the bigger ones in the area that people probably know. I have heard Wendy mentioned deviate before. I like it there, but I have to be careful when I go there.
00:02:31 ROB
Because they're high abs.
00:02:36 KEN
And uh, well, my my first question I want to ask you before we kind of get into today's you know very relaxed show what is you know we we have our competition quote UN quote with Ohio, you know people from Ohio hate Michigan, Michigan hates Ohio.
00:02:53 KEN
With Michigan Beer and Indiana, is it a love hate relationship? Do you guys just love your son king your?
00:02:59 KEN
Three floyds screw.
00:03:01 KEN
Shorts and founders and that or, you know, is is there kind of like a parallel where you guys at least appreciate Michigan?
00:03:07 ROB
Beer, and we definitely appreciate Michigan beer. Indiana Beer is kind of weird if you can't really think of any regional breweries out of it until 3 Floyd's expanded a few years back and then the there was definitely love, hate with three Floyds because they distributed to Chicago, not to downstate Indiana, so it was hard to find their stuff here.
00:03:29 ROB
It was easy to find their stuff in Chicago or easier to find their stuff up in Chicago, so calling them an Indiana brewery kind of hurt a little back then. But they've expanded, you know, now they're sort of regional.
00:03:39 ROB
I think they are regional. They hit New York anyway and as far as getting Michigan beer, yeah, we've always loved, for example, too hearted. That's always been popular in my area. But then the locals are so good, even if they aren't distributing widely. I guess Sun King is now in Florida and Indiana, so it's too interesting.
00:03:59 ROB
States to be in, but and then upland distributes more. But there's still, I don't know what their volume is like as far as how they distribute cause it's hours that they mainly distribute.
00:04:14 KEN
Well, before we get into the show a little bit more, I want to tell you guys and I want to hear your, you know, Black Friday stories about beer, something that's happened to you or happens to.
00:04:25 KEN
You you know.
00:04:26 KEN
Walking into a store and you see all the random bourbon counties just sitting there like, oh, this was an accident, my story.
00:04:32 KEN
Where you comes from?
00:04:33 KEN
Today I decided I needed to go to Kroger to just kind of get a few things for the weekend. So I went in there to Kroger and it was about 9:00.
00:04:43 KEN
And I'm like.
00:04:44 KEN
You know, hey, I'm curious if it's there and the one of the beer reps that is there notices me looking for something like you. You you have that look, you're looking for something very specific and he goes, you know, what are you looking for? And I said.
00:04:55 KEN
Ohh, you know, I'm looking for Bourbon County. It's probably distributed by the folks who are the Anheuser-Busch house here in Washington County.
00:05:03 KEN
And he goes, oh, yeah, I think I saw the lady in the back. I can go ask and see if she's there. And I said, you know what, if you don't mind, that'd be great. So he goes and he decides to ask. He works for the Miller House over here and he comes back and I'm out and I'm doing other shopping and stuff too. I was going to come check back in a minute and I overhear her say, yeah.
00:05:24 KEN
You know, a lot of crazy people come and they they try to get beers and they're they wait in line. And I'm probably just going to make this guy wait so long that he's just going to let.
00:05:35 KEN
And I don't. I never saw her, but I heard her. And I'm like, oh, well, I guess I'm not getting my Bourbon county today. So I went off and did all the other stuff that I needed to do, went to the pet store or to the pharmacy. And then I am drinking my 1 bourbon county. But does anybody have maybe a more fun?
00:05:54 KEN
Nicer Black Friday story than me getting trolled by the, you know, Anheuser-Busch distributor here in Washington County.
00:06:07 WENDY
All I have to say to that is wow.
00:06:10 WENDY
Does she not want to sell beer?
00:06:12 KEN
There I I understand the plight of like the truck chasers and people probably follow her from Kroger to Kroger to Kroger, assuming cause from what Matt Bush has told me. Like usually, if you're in stores like Myer, Kroger, like, that's kind of your territory, you don't do more than maybe two or three Myers.
00:06:33 DAN
Or two or three krogers.
00:06:35 KEN
So she's probably gets stuck with people that are like following her and asking her and stuff. But I was definitely her first stop that day. And I I just just crazy because I didn't need it. I don't I I didn't go back. Obviously I'm joking to 2019, but yeah, it was it was.
00:06:54 KEN
A weird feeling to be almost how I talk about CBY son. Show. This lady's talking about.
00:07:02 KEN
Me and I'm like.
00:07:03 KEN
I don't know. I I did buy.
00:07:05 KEN
24 packs.
00:07:05 KEN
Of Dragons milk, though, and walked.
00:07:08 ROB
You get the mocha mint.
00:07:10 KEN
No, I got the oatmeal cookie and the regular. I haven't had regular in God knows how long, and it was like a dollar more for the adjunct variant, and it was like 1699 for a four pack and 1799 for the adjunct. I'm like, alright, I'll take a four pack of each.
00:07:29 ROB
I hadn't seen the Mocha Mint before. Today I picked one up.
00:07:34 WENDY
Have you tried?
00:07:34 WENDY
It yet?
00:07:35 ROB
No, I have.
00:07:35 ROB
It my son had one with dinner.
00:07:37 ROB
I don't know.
00:07:38 ROB
What I have just?
00:07:40 ROB
A pair of.
00:07:41 ROB
Mocha mint with steak, but there you.
00:07:42 ROB
Have it.
00:07:44 WENDY
I'm always interested because I'm not a real big fan of mint and beer. I feel like it's a really hard flavor to nail properly, so I'm always interested to try it. If I haven't had it before to see if they were able to make.
00:07:58 WENDY
Work. I had a much better experience getting BCBS today. I wasn't going to go look for it, but I realized I wanted to pick something up for.
00:08:08 WENDY
The show and.
00:08:08 WENDY
I actually picked.
00:08:09 WENDY
Up a show for half her passion fruit.
00:08:12 WENDY
Half of island.
00:08:14 WENDY
And I was at the register and I was like, hey, did you guys get any BCBS today? And they're like, oh, yeah, hang on.
00:08:20 WENDY
Let me go.
00:08:20 WENDY
Get it for you.
00:08:21 WENDY
So I just they had the bananas foster, which is the one I wanted to try anyways, and I and the regular. So I just got.
00:08:31 WENDY
One of each.
00:08:33 WENDY
It was, it was that easy. No chasing.
00:08:36 DAN
Yeah, I don't understand this chasing thing it I feel like that's at least five years in the past, if not more. You can walk in anywhere. There were no lines anywhere. I walked into beer store to get beer for the show. They had a crapped on even though the eagle rare barrel one stopped at another place.
00:08:39 WENDY
Don't either.
00:08:56 DAN
They had it on tap and had.
00:08:58 DAN
Coolers full of all of them for people coming in.
00:09:01 DAN
Like there is no I don't know outside of Ken who's having to chase.
00:09:05 DAN
Anything. It's literally walking no matter where you want.
00:09:08 WENDY
Maybe he just looked weird.
00:09:08 DAN
To go, yeah, it's.
00:09:10 DAN
Like walking wherever you want. They've got a crap.
00:09:12 DAN
Load of it.
00:09:14 DAN
Well for here.
00:09:14 WENDY
I don't think that's true here.
00:09:17 KEN
Here in Ipsilanti there we're we're in a craft beer desert where the first closest true craft beer store is a graveyard that still has like Arcadia Ales on its shelf, and it's it's not only a graveyard, everything's overpriced, and the guy does not do any negotiating.
00:09:39 KEN
So when when you're when you're selling like 8-8 year old, you know porters, it's like the the one random liquor store in downtown Ypsilanti. Like, I'll go in there and I'll be like, hey, you know, these beers might taste like ****. I will buy them for you at a deep discount.
00:09:39 DAN
You normally barter when you go into a beer store.
00:09:59 KEN
To get them off your shelves, but this person probably still has like, obviously they still have Arcadia, which I've mentioned, yeah.
00:10:06 DAN
Do you check if they have any?
00:10:08 KEN
You know, I don't know if I've. I've looked that hard, but I would not be surprised. That's how much of A, you know, I I don't want to say it's a rip off. Yeah. This place is a rip off. And then there there's another place, just a little bit east of me. And that was the same place I've told the story where I walked in there. I'm like, oh, they have bourbon.
00:10:26 KEN
County on the shelf and they go pick up a bottle.
00:10:29 KEN
And when I went to check out, it was like $27.00 for a regular bottle of Bourbon County. And I said no thank you and put it right back. And I've never been in that place again.
00:10:39 KEN
So we're in a craft beer store desert, the.
00:10:43 KEN
Closest place I actually.
00:10:44 KEN
Took you to and to blue front in Ann.
00:10:46 KEN
Arbor. That's like the truest closest.
00:10:47 DAN
I remember that. Yeah.
00:10:50 KEN
Craft beer store and then the next ones in Canton so.
00:10:54 DAN
Total wine near you.
00:10:55 KEN
We do. We do have a total wine and that's, I guess that's probably.
00:11:00 KEN
Gonna be the.
00:11:01 KEN
The closest now I always forget about total.
00:11:04 KEN
Fine. Just because I I probably buy more liquor there than I do beer.
00:11:10 DAN
Well, total wine probably has.
00:11:11 DAN
More Bourbon County that you. They can even go through.
00:11:13 KEN
In a year, yeah, I might. I might swing by, but I don't recall ever seeing Bourbon County there. And I've I've been there, like, you know, before Christmas. But I also haven't looked for it, so I can't really tell you if that's, you know.
00:11:14 DAN
We normally have so much.
00:11:30 KEN
True or not?
00:11:32 KEN
So yeah, so we're in this just Oasis, but the one of my neighbors deserts.
00:11:36
You mean dessert?
00:11:38
Yes. Yeah.
00:11:38 KEN
Desert, one of my neighbors actually is the beer procurement person for a Meyer off of Z, which is in the more West side of Ann Arbor.
00:11:51 KEN
And she says that at 7:00 AM, she'll have a line of about 60 to 70 people every year.
00:11:59 DAN
What is even happening?
00:12:00 KEN
So I don't. I don't. I can't tell you everywhere else. Like *******, the tuna just posted. Hey, I've got all these bottles. Let's go over on his Facebook page or on the tuna liquor Facebook page. One of our sponsors. Thank you so much. And but this is also one of the first years.
00:12:19 KEN
Where I talked.
00:12:19 KEN
To former sponsor Ryan over at three Knicks and he goes, we didn't even know if we were gonna get any allocation this year.
00:12:27 KEN
So I don't know if I. I feel like there's a a change within how we go about Black Friday for Bourbon County. I don't think it's as.
00:12:36 KEN
Bad as it.
00:12:37 KEN
Was when we first started eight years ago with people literally like sharing their life story on Facebook, saying which stories they got? Which beers.
00:12:46 KEN
Bum and which stores are empty and which ones are filled and which ones are rip offs?
00:12:52 KEN
Those days were crazy.
00:12:55 DAN
I agree. Yeah. When we first started. Ohh yeah.
00:12:59 WENDY
Most where stores are requiring you to buy other Goose Island products in order to even purchase these.
00:13:08 DAN
Yeah, there we get the IPA. They're.
00:13:11 KEN
They're hoping to bet that nobody notices that that's illegal and doesn't say anything, and they probably just, you know, if you say something, they'll.
00:13:19 KEN
Let you buy your.
00:13:20 KEN
Allocation that they were going to offer anyways and say.
00:13:23 DAN
Get the hell out of your kid. I remember GameStop doing that when I.
00:13:26 DAN
Feel like the 360?
00:13:28 DAN
Xbox 360 came out. They're like, ohh, it depends on what else you're gonna.
00:13:32 DAN
Guy like what? Extra controllers and everything. It's just that's a ****** way to do business. There shouldn't be any, I mean.
00:13:39 DAN
What are you? Why?
00:13:40 DAN
Are you gatekeeping beer of all things?
00:13:43 WENDY
Well, because in order for them to get an allotment, they have to sell so much product.
00:13:48 WENDY
So. So the more product that they sell?
00:13:50 WENDY
The the more they get the next year.
00:13:52 DAN
How true is that? Because you know these days? Because the store where I bought one of the Eagle Rares today, they have 0 Goose Island on the shelf.
00:14:02 DAN
Like through the whole year, there is no goose Island you can buy there throughout the entire year and they still get cases of it. So I don't know if that's still true anymore.
00:14:12 WENDY
Yeah, I don't know. That's what they told me, that this was quite a few years.
00:14:15 WENDY
Ago though at.
00:14:16 DAN
Yeah, I remember that.
00:14:17 WENDY
When I lived in Redford, they told me.
00:14:19 WENDY
That, and I was like.
00:14:19 DAN
I remember that a long time ago. I don't know if it's still the case.
00:14:25 DAN
10 Rob, you have any idea?
00:14:26 KEN
I'm. I'm I'm.
00:14:27 KEN
Actually contacting someone to to get that so continue the conversation.
00:14:32 KEN
And if there's nothing.
00:14:33 KEN
Else, tell us your Black Friday story.
00:14:35 DAN
Second, here's a here. Ohh go ahead Rob. I'm sorry.
00:14:38 ROB
Sure. Well, yeah. So my my best Black Friday story, which was highly successful was it started with a trip to Costco. My normal Friday trip to Costco and they had Goose Island.
00:14:48 ROB
There limit 2, so I picked some up at. You know we have really reasonable price. I don't remember. It was a few years ago and then there's a a good liquor store near there. So I swung by there and they had two variants. So I picked those up and then I thought, Oh well, I know one more liquor store it's on the way home. It's the the hole is the smallest hole in the wall liquor store.
00:15:09 ROB
Caters to I live near the Speedway, which isn't the OR. I'm sorry. I live near the Raceway, which isn't the Speedway. It's it's where the drag strips is mostly. And so it caters to that mostly like the this little liquor store. And I swung by there cause it's on.
00:15:24 ROB
At home and.
00:15:26 ROB
Sure enough, they had the other two variants on.
00:15:28 ROB
The shelf there.
00:15:30 ROB
I asked about it and and they said yeah, we post on Facebook. People show up right away and then this is what's left. So that would have been probably 11 in the morning. We're still sitting there. So I picked up a couple of those and headed home it.
00:15:43 ROB
Was very good Black Friday.
00:15:45 DAN
Yeah. No, Rob, I'm curious. Do you get how far South of Chicago are you?
00:15:50 DAN
Not in three hours, do you?
00:15:52 DAN
Get the proprietor stout down there or no.
00:15:55 ROB
I so I have never chased the variance that hard, so I don't know.
00:16:01 DAN
So something I found interesting this year, Arizona always somehow gets screwed up. I can't remember. Was it 2021? We had Goose Island on here.
00:16:11 KEN
2020 I believe.
00:16:13 DAN
2020 they send us the variant that was in the box. I can't remember which one the purple.
00:16:17 DAN
And black box.
00:16:19 DAN
Like for example that didn't end up out here in Arizona this year. Everyone was expecting it all the stories, but we didn't get the cask finished very yet. No one out here did and a lot of people were.
00:16:30 DAN
Kind of upset about that.
00:16:31 DAN
So I'm wondering, what do you?
00:16:32 DAN
May know since you were out there today.
00:16:35 DAN
Looking for variants, did you see the cask finished? Or were all the variants available?
00:16:40 WENDY
No, what I didn't actually go looking. I stopped in to get something else and they just happened to have two of the variants or they had the original and the bananas foster. So that was the one I wanted.
00:16:51 WENDY
To try anyways.
00:16:52 WENDY
So I mean, I always am willing to try all of them, but I like bananas.
00:16:56 WENDY
In my beer.
00:16:57 DAN
So I'm sorry, I'm sorry. A lot of people do and I don't know why.
00:16:58 WENDY
I know it's.
00:16:59 WENDY
Weird, but I do.
00:17:03 ROB
One of my basement.
00:17:04 WENDY
But I love banana.
00:17:06 DAN
Yeah, there's a burger out here that makes a beer called Banana Key. It's a barrel aged banana stout and people go nuts about it and I feel like I'm gonna throw open my mouth whenever I.
00:17:06 WENDY
Go figure.
00:17:14 DAN
Hear people talking about.
00:17:15 DAN
It like it.
00:17:16 WENDY
Yeah, I'm going to need you to.
00:17:16 DAN
Doesn't make sense.
00:17:17 WENDY
Send me some of that.
00:17:18 DAN
I will next time it comes out, if you want some, they can't it, so I can definitely do that.
00:17:23 ROB
What do I bury discord servers separated into team Banana versus team pick?
00:17:28 DAN
So pickle beer.
00:17:29 WENDY
Wait, I like both.
00:17:30 ROB
Yeah, I know. Yeah, that's that's.
00:17:32 ROB
Kind of the problem, right? Yeah.
00:17:32 DAN
Banana pickle beer coming up, but it sounds like something director would do banana pickle sour.
00:17:38 WENDY
I don't know about that.
00:17:40 DAN
No, you wouldn't. It's just everything you like, Allen.
00:17:41 WENDY
Yeah. So I don't understand why I don't like mint in beer, though, because I love mint. Anything else? I love it.
00:17:47 WENDY
Shamrock Shades of.
00:17:49 WENDY
Junior mints are like my favorite candy.
00:17:50 WENDY
Like no figure.
00:17:51 DAN
Ohh. Shamrock shakes look good.
00:17:52 WENDY
But put it in beer and I feel it looks like it.
00:17:53 WENDY
Tastes like toothpaste.
00:17:55 ROB
Some of those are carbonated.
00:17:57 DAN
Did you ever try Mocha month from outside when they made?
00:18:00 DAN
Years ago, they haven't made it in a while. That was.
00:18:02 WENDY
Yes, that is one of the ones that.
00:18:04 WENDY
I did like.
00:18:05 DAN
I was going to say.
00:18:05 DAN
That one was very good, so if you.
00:18:08 DAN
At least you like that. So I'm.
00:18:09 DAN
Assuming you don't like Naughty Girl Stout from right brain.
00:18:14 DAN
Oh, such a good beer. That's too bad.
00:18:15 WENDY
No, none of the figment ones am I.
00:18:18 DAN
Is it because the flavors off?
00:18:20 DAN
It doesn't actually taste like a thin mint.
00:18:22 WENDY
Yeah, well, for some reason I feel like when when they put peppermint in a beer, it usually is too strong of a peppermint flavor. And it tastes like mouthwash to me instead of.
00:18:37 DAN
People put it's like they put Listerine in the.
00:18:41 DAN
Hey try hopped it with Listerine for.
00:18:43 WENDY
And it could be the type of mint too.
00:18:43 DAN
A couple weeks.
00:18:45 DAN
I feel like it's.
00:18:46 DAN
Extract is what they put in for that I don't know.
00:18:48 DAN
If they're actually dropping candy canes.
00:18:51 DAN
Or something like that. They're probably not, so it's probably some type of extract. Is what I'm going to assume. I could ask the guy at right brain next talk to him every time I go.
00:18:56 WENDY
Alright, sure.
00:19:01 DAN
Up there, pretty nice guy. I don't know if.
00:19:03 DAN
You guys have been there.
00:19:04 WENDY
Oh yeah.
00:19:05 DAN
Never had him on the show, and apparently he lives or his mom lives down here in Arizona like they all knew about the flight from Arizona to traverse. City was kind of weird.
00:19:16 DAN
Ken, did you find an answer? You've been kind of quiet.
00:19:20 KEN
I do not have a response back from my source. No, it is Friday on a holiday. I don't know. I don't know if we're gonna get it. Obviously I the the simple question I asked them is, is this true or am I?
00:19:26 DAN
It's Black Friday. Yeah, so good chance.
00:19:37 DAN
You know about the allocation.
00:19:38 KEN
Yeah. How many times have we told and retold and retold the story? You know, have we created our own lore or has the yeah. Or is this actually a a real thing? So I want, I want to verify, as there are times where I, you know, the amount of times I've told and retold the M43.
00:19:45 DAN
Urban legend.
00:19:57 KEN
Story here. There's probably some added lore that did not happen on the actual show that just kind of like.
00:20:03 KEN
Grew as we continued to.
00:20:07 KEN
Ever just keeps adding on to it. Yeah. And that's when Travis let me create.
00:20:12 KEN
The double dwarf now.
00:20:14 DAN
The double.
00:20:16 KEN
That that, that was such a weird.
00:20:18 KEN
I loved it the second time the.
00:20:19 KEN
First time I had it.
00:20:20 KEN
It was not not anything that I liked, but yeah, that was like a one time bottle thing. That's at the the beer graveyard that I went to. It's got.
00:20:29 DAN
Or it was nine years old.
00:20:31 KEN
I I mean it was back when like Old Nation was just starting so.
00:20:35 KEN
I think it.
00:20:35 KEN
Was like.
00:20:35 KEN
20/16/2017.
00:20:38 DAN
Ohh Dang.
00:20:39 KEN
Yeah. So that's that's why I call that place like a graveyard. But it's not even like they're not selling stuff even at MSRP after being 8 years old. Like they're just like, yeah, we're just going to keep keep it on the shelf until.
00:20:52 KEN
Was dust on the bottles? Oh my God. Have you? You've seen some of the signs where I've gone to these stores and I like, yeah. Have a cake to think of dust on my fingers.
00:21:03
So that's.
00:21:05 KEN
That's size 10.
00:21:06 DAN
Cool thing you consume. Like what?
00:21:08 DAN
Are you doing?
00:21:09 KEN
That's why I say why. That's why ioffer money like, hey, I'll give you this much money for the beers because it might taste like trap, like the barrel aged beers we know we're gonna age fairly well, but the I think I had like a bells Porter from like 2016.
00:21:24 DAN
From there, from that store.
00:21:26 KEN
Not from the graveyard store from the.
00:21:28 KEN
Downtown, one that lets me barter.
00:21:31 DAN
From the beer. Bizarre, you're swap.
00:21:33 WENDY
Did they let you barter?
00:21:35 DAN
Meet going up.
00:21:37 WENDY
That's not even something I would really think of. I'm going to try it next.
00:21:39 KEN
Here's they. So they have, like their wall of coolers and they have their singles area. And then they actually have, like, all these old *** bottles in its own little section. And this place will have, like, IPA's from, like, falling down or like.
00:21:40 WENDY
Time though.
00:21:56 KEN
Not only dead breweries, but like and a beer that does not last that long.
00:22:03 KEN
Just sitting on the shelf. Uh, go on.
00:22:07 ROB
Rob, we've got a place on the South side here. They have an excellent beer selection, but they're they have that dead zone and everything in there has a sticker on it that says it's a dollar, sometimes less.
00:22:18 WENDY
Oh, that's awesome.
00:22:18 DAN
They're being smart.
00:22:19 ROB
Yeah, yeah, that's true.
00:22:20 ROB
I have brought those into share.
00:22:22 ROB
There's many times the people love seeing the dollar sticker and wondering what we're gonna get.
00:22:27 DAN
Yeah, the place.
00:22:28 DAN
Here, right up the street where I normally go when a kegs getting has been on too long or getting to the end of life, they'll crawler them all.
00:22:35 DAN
And put them in the cooler for like 3-4 dollars a crawler. They're like. Here you go we got.
00:22:40 DAN
To get rid of it.
00:22:41 DAN
It's it's a smart way to do it, not where you where they have dust on the bottle. They're like $19.00 for something that's eight years.
00:22:49 ROB
Old, but if they sell it, they have to.
00:22:51 ROB
Replace it with something else.
00:22:54 DAN
Good point. They don't want to spend the money.
00:22:58 KEN
I I tell you.
00:22:59 KEN
What the the place in saline that has this is they they have plenty of space.
00:23:06 KEN
To still fill.
00:23:07 KEN
Up the rest of the space when I would go and if I would go and buy their beer, I would I if they gave me half off, even some of their because their prices are not only Ms. they're more than MSRP.
00:23:18 KEN
Still, so like half off. I I'd still be tempted to try some things.
00:23:19
OK.
00:23:26 WENDY
I remember a few years ago it was right when they first when they started pushing up the release dates for all the pumpkin beers I walked in at like the end of July, like beginning of August. And they my at my local when I was over in the other town and they were like.
00:23:45 WENDY
It was just a gigantic wall of pumpkin beers. There was every flavor and variety that you could think of from like every brewery in Michigan. And I was like, oh, it's.
00:23:53 WENDY
Too soon for that?
00:23:55 WENDY
I'm like, that's not going to go well for you. And I remember by the end of October, they had a that whole wall was on clearance.
00:24:05 ROB
That's still one. I don't think I need to get it pumpkin beer on.
00:24:08 ROB
Clearance even. No, no, thank God.
00:24:11 DAN
You said that because.
00:24:14 DAN
No pumpkin beer is I like I.
00:24:15 DAN
Said I buy.
00:24:16 DAN
Them just to throw them away, get.
00:24:17 DAN
More of them out.
00:24:18 DAN
Of distribution as possible.
00:24:20 ROB
Right, raise their numbers.
00:24:21 KEN
I don't know if you.
00:24:21 KEN
Know this? Yeah. You're raising their numbers.
00:24:22 ROB
It's way.
00:24:23 WENDY
Up there, so there's.
00:24:25 DAN
No, don't say.
00:24:26 DAN
That no, don't ruin my vision of what I'm.
00:24:29 KEN
Doing is like heroic cannon. Find wine always does after I think like March or April. They'll always discount all their unsold pumpkin beers. And you could usually get in there.
00:24:31
OK.
00:24:40 KEN
And get it for like you know $2.00 a bottle or a can if that like 999 a six pack at most and some of them are like pump king like some of the big dogs and then a lot of them are just the weird random blue moon, pumpkin and fat tired.
00:24:57 KEN
You know, canned yams? I don't know.
00:25:02
I was thinking.
00:25:02 KEN
I was trying to think of another like Thanksgiving food and canned candied yams was the the thing that can I I came up with. Does anybody?
00:25:12
Else have a.
00:25:13 KEN
Black Friday story because if not, I'm just going.
00:25:14 KEN
To go into.
00:25:15 KEN
The next part of my segment.
00:25:16 DAN
No, let's keep going.
00:25:18 DAN
Unless you guys, I'm sorry.
00:25:18
All right.
00:25:20 DAN
I'm just talking for everyone, sorry.
00:25:22
Well, well, Wendy and.
00:25:23 KEN
Rob, you know they shook.
00:25:25 KEN
Their heads now.
00:25:26 KEN

00:26:55 KEN
I have three more. Am I the ********?
00:26:56 KEN
Lined up to.
00:26:57 DAN
Oh, here we go. All right.
00:26:57 KEN
Tell you.
00:26:59 KEN
And I need your opinions on.
00:27:01 KEN
Whether you think the original.
00:27:03 KEN
Poster is in fact an ******* or not.
00:27:07 KEN
Number one.
00:27:09 KEN
The subject is. Am I the ******* for letting someone drink my friend's beer and refusing to pay them back?
00:27:17 KEN
I28 mail had a friend, 29 male, Brian, over almost three months ago, where he brought a 12 pack of cores and only drank half of it. When he left, he left the remaining beers in my fridge, despite me reminding him to grab them. Since then, he's come over.
00:27:33 KEN
Twice for little.
00:27:34 KEN
Things, and I told him to grab the beers.
00:27:36 KEN
He left, but he did it.
00:27:38 KEN
Come Saturday, I had a couple people over and they asked if they could have the cores, which I considered abandoned at this point. So I said sure they drank all the remaining beers that night. Last night, Brian came over for a minute and asked to grab his beers and I told him they were gone. He got angry that I gave his beers away and demanded I pay for the remaining.
00:27:58 KEN
Years I refused because I felt he had plenty of time to take or drink them and that he abandoned them at my place. We have three of these, so we'll start each one with a different person, so we're going to start with Wendy. Wendy.
00:28:12 KEN
Not the, not the *******. Why?
00:28:15 WENDY
Not the *******. I think we talked about this before. The beer etiquette. When going to somebody's house. Generally you leave those beers there unless they prefer you not. It sounds like this guy asked him to take him. I thought he was pretty nice to hold on to him for as long as he did.
00:28:32 WENDY
So not the ******* at all.
00:28:35 KEN
Yes, three months he has left the beer in somebody else's refrigerator, Wendy says. Not the ******* Rob.
00:28:44 ROB
Not the *******. And three months in the refrigerator is probably more electricity than it would cost to replace those beers.
00:28:53 KEN
I I would say so myself, Dan.
00:28:56 DAN
Yeah. So was this Johnny Lawrence, like, getting bad about his quarters? I've always assumed. And Penn, I've done this a million times. You know, if I come over and eat beer that's yours, like, who's getting mad over some cores of all things, I would have been like, here's your $7.00.
00:29:16 DAN
Like like, don't bother coming over again.
00:29:18 DAN
Look, what the hell is that?
00:29:21 KEN
I I don't think I've ever left beer at somebody's place with the intention of going back to get it. Yeah.
00:29:31 KEN
I I'm trying to think of any situation like I don't even know like a day is considered abandoned in my eyes like 24 hours that beer is mine and I mean there are.
00:29:43 KEN
Plenty of times.
00:29:43 KEN
Where people have just left beer at my house and I didn't even know they left it cause it's just in the refrigerator in my basement and then.
00:29:49 KEN
Ohh hey, somebody else drinks it. I'm like.
00:29:51 KEN
Whatever like that.
00:29:52 DAN
Typical etiquette, yeah.
00:29:56 KEN
I I think any beer leftover becomes community beer. I think that's a fair rule, I agree.
00:30:02 WENDY
So is that craft beer etiquette or is that regular beer etiquette? Does that make sense?
00:30:08 KEN
I think that's all beer etiquette.
00:30:10 WENDY
I mean, I would think it's all.
00:30:11 WENDY
The eradicate but.
00:30:12 DAN
Who drank my hands?
00:30:13 WENDY
We're also craft beer drinkers, so.
00:30:17 KEN
Yeah. If if I went over to, like, dance place and I left, they two out of six from a six pack of, you know, belly or brown or something like that stands Bel Air Brown. Like we drink that night. I'm sure. Like sorry man.
00:30:33 KEN
I I do not see any.
00:30:36 KEN
Now the the proper etiquette if you're.
00:30:38 KEN
A guest is to always.
00:30:39 KEN
Ask what beer you could drink as these people did, and they asked if they could drink the courts. And I believe the ownership was the the original poster and no longer Brian. I believe Brian's the ******* for.
00:30:53 DAN
Yeah, totally.
00:30:54 WENDY
True story.
00:30:56 KEN
Asking for money after.
00:30:58 KEN
The beer was drank like.
00:30:59 KEN
If you expected the beer to be there and it wasn't, then that's your loss period. But to ask for.
00:31:04 KEN
Money after the fact? Like what?
00:31:06
What? What?
00:31:07 KEN
What else are you going to give him? Like 6 cores is like $4?
00:31:11 KEN
That's what.
00:31:12 DAN
I'm saying like, here's your ******* 7 dollars.
00:31:16
Get old.
00:31:17 KEN
It it, it ain't even like if I if I left like maybe something like ohh we went over to do a share at dance place and I left the Sam Adams Utopia and I'd be like, hey, can we save that for another day? But that's a binding contract between myself and now the new owner Dan.
00:31:30 DAN
Oh me.
00:31:35 DAN
Ohh yeah, that's a different story, but.
00:31:38 WENDY
I don't mean to.
00:31:40 KEN
I'll go on, Wendy.
00:31:40
Go ahead.
00:31:42 WENDY
I had something to totally interrupt off this subject though. One of the things that I found today was a four pack of the utopias barrel aged.
00:31:52 WENDY
Worldwide Stout for $60.00 for a four pack.
00:31:56 DAN
Yeah, let's go for about 10.
00:31:58 DAN
A bottle they're trying to rip you off.
00:32:00 WENDY
Yeah. Well, I didn't buy it, but.
00:32:03 KEN
I I have a I think I had a bottle of like somebody was saying, man, they really wanted to try this one beer and mind you, since COVID, I don't really save beer anymore. Like the beer is going to get drunk.
00:32:17 KEN
No matter what.
00:32:18 KEN
And I had this bottle of I 120 from 2022, I believe.
00:32:24 KEN
Signed by Sam.
00:32:26 KEN
And a friend came over and he was talking about he's like, yeah, they they always talk about 120 minute. I've never had it before and I literally get out the bottle and hand it to him. He's like, here you go. Like I don't. I don't need this. Like I didn't pay for it in the 1st place. But he's like, no, I can't take that we'll drinking another.
00:32:42 KEN
Day. But I think when it comes to beer.
00:32:45 KEN
Or you can't be too overly protective.
00:32:49 KEN
Of what you quote, UN quote.
00:32:50 KEN
Owner have or whatever I.
00:32:52 KEN
Think beer is a community drink that is meant to be served with the community, with friends as much as I joked about saying I'm not sharing this bourbon county with anyone, but I'm sure the dark Dragon's milk is going to get shared the odd side.
00:33:06 KEN
From Black Friday.
00:33:06 KEN
Last year that I have is going to get shared so.
00:33:10 ROB
Yeah, when it's good in someone else's fridge and you go home if unless they send you home with your beer, then it's theirs if it lives.
00:33:17 ROB
There, now I've.
00:33:19 ROB
I've been pleasantly surprised many times by my friends. When I show up again later in some of my beer is still in their fridge and they offer it to me to to drink.
00:33:27 ROB
While I'm there so.
00:33:30 KEN
It's almost like a pleasant surprise, like you gifted yourself that beer. You know, the old you gifted it for the forward you.
00:33:34 WENDY
Right.
00:33:37 WENDY
Oh, I love this beer. I'm so glad I.
00:33:39 WENDY
Left it here.
00:33:40 ROB
That's right. I guess you didn't like it.
00:33:42 ROB
That's OK.
00:33:45 KEN
All right, this is going to be a.
00:33:47 KEN
A more social.
00:33:48 KEN
One, I'm guessing they're Canadian or European based on.
00:33:52 KEN
The ages itself.
00:33:54 KEN
My boyfriend male, 20 and I female 18, have been together for five months after my graduation party. I saw him give his friend female, 20 a sip of beer. He wanted her.
00:34:06 KEN
To try, she has always been super nice to me and has made me feel welcome within his group of friends at college and invites me to literally everything. I never get jealous like this, but something just didn't feel right to me. It seems weird for her to be OK with putting her lips where his was and it seems very intimate and inappropriate to me.
00:34:26 KEN
She was playing ******** with his parents the whole night and they looked very comfortable and made me think something might be going on. When I brought this up to my boyfriend, he was kind of shocked. And then?
00:34:36 KEN
Just laughed.
00:34:38 ROB
Rob, I would probably have the exact same reaction he had, honestly.
00:34:44 DAN
Wait, you mean the this is the woman?
00:34:47 KEN
So so the the.
00:34:47 ROB
He he had to laugh at her when she.
00:34:49 ROB
Brought it up.
00:34:50 KEN
Yeah, the the original poster is the female and he was shocked at her thoughts and laughed at her.
00:34:56 DAN
OK, ohh gotcha. OK, got it.
00:34:58 ROB
So I I regularly so I don't think that he is the *******. I don't think that she's the ******* either. Like she should definitely make her feelings known and she did. So that's good.
00:35:09 ROB
But I regularly go to.
00:35:12 ROB
Things with friends, some of them.
00:35:14 ROB
Are of the female persuasion.
00:35:16 ROB
And and we share around like tasters all the time.
00:35:19 ROB
At at like.
00:35:20 ROB
We've got. I just got Winterfest tickets. That's my other happy Black Friday thing. Winterfest, Indiana. So we're gonna be sharing around tasters the whole time we're there, like, it's just easier than standing in four different lines.
00:35:34 DAN
Dan. Yeah. I'm sorry, Wendy, but this sums up women probably not our generation, but this sums up the newer generations in 2023, like she's getting.
00:35:47 DAN
She's getting jealous over the dumbest **** I've.
00:35:49 DAN
Ever heard like?
00:35:52 DAN
Especially when he laughs is like are you?
00:35:53 DAN
Kidding me? That's the way I'm seeing it. At least I'm.
00:35:55 DAN
Perceiving it so no that that.
00:35:59 DAN
She is the *******. He's like, what are you doing? Basically is what I'm saying.
00:36:06 KEN
Well, Wendy, the female persuasion, the.
00:36:11 KEN
The voice of all women.
00:36:12 KEN
In craft beer, Wendy Taylor.
00:36:15 WENDY
I don't know about that. I would say I don't think that she's an *******.
00:36:21 WENDY
I do think that it is important for her to say, hey, I'm uncomfortable with this. I think that it was about way more than him sharing his.
00:36:29 WENDY
Beer with her.
00:36:31 WENDY
The whole conversation about the playing corn hole with his parents type thing, that really lends a little more to why she's feeling this way as opposed to her.
00:36:41 WENDY
Drinking from his glass like Rob, though I probably would have left too, if she had told if she'd have said that to me as her friend and pulled me aside and been like she just drank out of his glass, I would. I would have laughed at her too. I.
00:36:56 WENDY
A few years ago, we were at Summer Beer Fest and I had a friend with me who was not a craft beer person. She was volunteering through an organization with me and after we were done working our shift, we were going to the.
00:37:07 WENDY
Different tents and stuff and we were standing in line for something.
00:37:11 WENDY
And the guy behind me?
00:37:13 WENDY
Was had a sample in his hand and he was like, what are you going to get? And I said, well, I'm trying to decide between this and this.
00:37:18 WENDY
And he's like, oh, I think this is really good. And he hands me.
00:37:20 WENDY
A sampler and.
00:37:22 WENDY
I tried it and I and I gave it back and I'm like ohh yeah, maybe I will get that one. And I turned around to talk to her and she goes.
00:37:29 WENDY
Do you know him? I'm like, no.
00:37:33 WENDY
Didn't even think about it. Like somebody gives you a sampler. You try it like that. So I would have laughed at her too, but I I do think that it's about way more than just that particular portion of the.
00:37:48 WENDY
Story that she was feeling bad about.
00:37:51 DAN
Well, yeah, she's insecure. Hands down. I mean, what was her boyfriend and this girl, like touching tongues while they were, like, trying this sample.
00:38:02 WENDY
Like I said though, I think that it was more about the fact that how comfortable she was with.
00:38:06 WENDY
His parents and.
00:38:08 WENDY
If there was.
00:38:08 WENDY
More to it.
00:38:09 WENDY
Than what she actually told in the story.
00:38:13 KEN
Yeah, I think it's a little obvious. There's a a little bit more underlying issues when it comes to what's going on within that relationship itself. I can't tell you how many times where I could be with you know, I have one of my best couples friends. Their names are Brock and Courtney.
00:38:33 KEN
They've married, they've been married for a long time. I stood.
00:38:35 KEN
Up in Brock's.
00:38:36 KEN
Wedding like I've just known them for probably 20 plus years now, and if something were to happen where, like Courtney I've, you know, Courtney ordered a beer and.
00:38:46 KEN
And I said ohh man, I was thinking of getting this and she goes. She would literally just say here have a try. Like she'd literally throw the beer in my face and say, please try this before you you want it. So I think when it comes to beer specifically in the craft beer world, like you're not getting someone to try a hams or or.
00:39:06 KEN
Milwaukee's best ice like.
00:39:08 KEN
These these are a little bit more of an investment money wise and you want to share you know, just like food. You wanna share this experience with other people as I'm sure he's probably offered his girlfriend, you know, taste of the beer. I again, I think it's I think we've all come to the conclusion that neither.
00:39:28 KEN
Are the *******, but they need to really look into their relationship a little bit more. But again, they're also 1919 and 20 or 21. Like they're young, they're little babies. They don't have a lot of real world experience.
00:39:46 KEN
We've got at least one more. I pulled up, one that might be more Thanksgiving related too, but I wanna get this one first. Am I the ******* for making a dad buy me a new beer after his kid kicked mine over?
00:40:04 KEN
So I young 20s female was at A at a kind of outdoor neighborhood festival a few weeks ago where everyone was mostly sitting on the grass in Group.
00:40:14 KEN
I sat down with a full cup of beer at a small circle of friends when a young child, maybe 6, ran through the middle of the circle and kicked over my full beer. I was nice about it and was like it's OK, but would you mind buying me another one since it was full? The dad was reluctant and seemed to ***** at me for asking.
00:40:33 KEN
But I got up and was basically like OK.
00:40:36 KEN
Go the bar was like 7 yards away. He still seemed really annoyed with me, so I'm wondering if I was in the wrong.
00:40:44 KEN
I am a student, so a $7.00 beer is expensive for me and I have been drinking a tiny bit before this so I'm sure my judgment wasn't all there.
00:40:54 KEN
Too long, didn't read, kicked over, kid kicked over my drink. So I asked his dad to buy.
00:40:59 KEN
Me another one?
00:41:02 KEN
It looks like we.
00:41:02 KEN
Have a little bit more context copied from a comment someone asked if I was sure that dad was mad at me and not just his kid. I asked him to pay for it and he kind of brushed me off and then started walking away back to sit.
00:41:13 KEN
Next to his.
00:41:14 KEN
Wife. So I followed him and was like, hey, sorry, but do you mind getting me another one? And he begrudgingly got up and went to the bar.
00:41:21 KEN
And he was just kind of giving me dirty looks. But I was just like, whatever, at that point, I was nice the whole time, though. I am 23 and kind of small. I wish. So I wasn't being like in his face or intimidating or anything.
00:41:36 KEN
Is she the?
00:41:37 KEN
*******. Dan. We start with you.
00:41:39 DAN
So am I assuming this is a place like Pine Knob sitting on the lawn?
00:41:45 KEN
I'm thinking it's more.
00:41:45 DAN
Let us safe.
00:41:46 KEN
Like a a small little park event. Like maybe they have like a a, a a beer garden or something like that, or a time to like. You know, I don't know if you ever knew, but the Dequindre cut opened up like a a nice little bar in area. And there's kids that are there and adults and stuff.
00:42:05 KEN
That you can go.
00:42:06 KEN
Hang out, chill and drink.
00:42:08 KEN
Here. So I think it's. I think it's more of a public public setting that just has a beer license nearby.
00:42:09 DAN
OK.
00:42:15 DAN
OK, so if I'm in an all ages place, I'm sitting on the grass. That beers in my hand. You know, kids are running around. You know, kids are close by, you know, they could possibly because they don't know about her.
00:42:29 DAN
Are gonna run through and knock your.
00:42:30 DAN
Beer over. That's a fact of life.
00:42:35 DAN
How I would handle it cause I've had beer knocked out of my hands a million times. If they don't offer, I'm just gonna be like, whatever. I'll just go get another one. Being 23 and a $7.00 beer. No.
00:42:45 DAN
You know the.
00:42:46 DAN
Risks if you're sitting on the ground, that's just my opinion. But if you're sitting there and not holding on to.
00:42:52 DAN
It so it's.
00:42:54 DAN
Totally possible. It could even fall over.
00:42:55 DAN
Sitting on the grass, I mean, are you gonna get the lawn to pay for your beer? If that happens, so it can happen. I don't know. She might be over exaggerating about what his reaction.
00:43:09 DAN
They were.
00:43:10 DAN
But the fact he did it, you can't get too mad, he went.
00:43:14 DAN
And did it for us so.
00:43:17 DAN
No, she's the ******* I think.
00:43:20 KEN
All right, Wendy.
00:43:23 WENDY
Absolutely not ********. I call ******** on that right now.
00:43:29 WENDY
This goes back to being in control of your kids when you're out in.
00:43:33 WENDY
Public even.
00:43:35 WENDY
If even if you're.
00:43:37 WENDY
In a public.
00:43:37 WENDY
Place your kids shouldn't be running around like animals so that they can not.
00:43:41 WENDY
**** over like.
00:43:42 WENDY
That it's just not. No, she was sitting with a group of of people. He apologized to her for it happening. So he knows that his.
00:43:49 WENDY
Kid did it.
00:43:51 WENDY
Don't make her feel bad because you have to buy ******* beer that your kid knocked over. Absolutely not. She is.
00:43:57 WENDY
Not the *******.
00:44:01 KEN
Rob, I guess you're the deciding factor here.
00:44:05 ROB
So I'm with Wendy. I'm kind of proud of her for standing up to him and, you know, making him buy the beer. It's honestly something he should have offered anyway. If his kid knocked over a beer. Like, I know if if one of my kids have done that, I would have offered to replace the beer. Like, that's just it seems like.
00:44:21 ROB
The thing that you do.
00:44:23 ROB
And that they were in a circle and the beer was in the middle of the circle. I feel like provides some amount of protection, at least in her mind, like she was being responsible. She had. She had replaced her beer responsibly on the.
00:44:36 ROB
Ground. So I I don't think she's the.
00:44:39 ROB
*******. Let's let's.
00:44:41 KEN
Change a few parts of this and we'll go around again and ask. So let's say they are at a park and let's say they are off to the side and some kids are just kicking the soccer ball.
00:44:58 KEN
Next to themselves, you know they they went close to them, started kicking it back and forth, a kid kicked a soccer ball. It hits the beer in the hand of the person.
00:45:08 KEN
And now that person wants the parent of that kid, obviously to pay for that beer so.
00:45:15 KEN
Is this still?
00:45:17 KEN
A. You know your the liability is on, you know.
00:45:23 KEN
The the person.
00:45:24 KEN
Holding the beer? Or is there a little bit more?
00:45:26 KEN
Leniency. You think this time, Dan?
00:45:29 DAN
No, it's still on you. You're in.
00:45:30 DAN
Public **** happens.
00:45:33 DAN
Especially if they're you're.
00:45:33 DAN
In a park where soccer balls or.
00:45:36 DAN
Cricket balls or rugby balls are getting thrown around. That's that's life. If you're going to be somewhere where that can happen, I mean, you're taking that risk. It could. It's just the thing.
00:45:47 KEN
What park are you in? Where the three balls that are getting thrown are soccer, cricket and rugby?
00:45:56 DAN
I mean maybe not the same park.
00:45:59 WENDY
Not in the US.
00:46:01 ROB
No, I mean.
00:46:03 DAN
There's cricket parks here, there's rocky. There's just maybe not at all the same place. Maybe not all the same place, but.
00:46:04 KEN
I I there there there is.
00:46:11 DAN
If you're in a park or some type of sport like that's happening where a ball is going around, you're taking the risk, plain and simple. There are other places, yeah.
00:46:21 KEN
Wendy and Rob, are you still on team Beer holder as not the *******?
00:46:28 WENDY
That one, I would agree, that's an accident.
00:46:32
OK.
00:46:33 ROB
That's it, yeah.
00:46:34 WENDY
Keep running in between people that they don't know. That's not an accident. That's you not taking care of your kids. People playing, playing with the ball and having that come over. That's an.
00:46:42 WENDY
Accident that I would get.
00:46:44 ROB
A kid running through the circle, there's some intent there, but a kid kicking a ball? Well, some kids are better at controlling the ball when they kick it than others.
00:46:52 WENDY
Right. Some of those are too.
00:46:53 DAN
Wait, are we putting in 10 on a?
00:46:56 DAN
Like say, like a six.
00:46:57 DAN
Year old running through.
00:46:58 ROB
Yeah, yeah, they could have intent.
00:47:02 DAN
Now I would say if it was beer running.
00:47:03 DAN
Through would be intent.
00:47:05 DAN
Kind of like if we go back to the blind.
00:47:07 DAN
Reps Halloween party.
00:47:10 DAN
But I don't know if there's intent.
00:47:11 DAN
On a six year old or like an 8 year old running through.
00:47:14 ROB
A circle when there's a. If it's a circle of people, and it sounds like they don't know.
00:47:19 ROB
The people like that's.
00:47:20 WENDY
Right. If you don't know the people.
00:47:21 ROB
That's some groups that they're not part of and they just ran through the middle of it. There's something not right about that that needs to be addressed.
00:47:29
OK, that's fair.
00:47:32 KEN
We are gonna go through one more, but I do have a response usually. So regarding the Bourbon County allocation, that is what I'm talking about. I've got. It was usually top craft accounts where we knew it would sell. This is where they would get the beer. Couple of squeaky wheels.
00:47:42 DAN
OK.
00:47:51 KEN
If they really ******* about not getting it, so if a.
00:47:54 KEN
Beer store was.
00:47:55 KEN
Like how the hell am I not getting it?
00:47:57 KEN
So they probably get it.
00:47:58 KEN
But he then finishes and.
00:48:00 KEN
This, but usually the brand reps would also sell it in and allocate it to the retailers, meaning that basically the brand reps of Goose Island would be the ones that are playing a big part into where the allocation goes. So.
00:48:20 KEN
I could guess there might be some pay to play in.
00:48:23 DAN
There sounds.
00:48:25 KEN
Like it for for that. So maybe there was like.
00:48:29 KEN
Hey, I'll give.
00:48:29 KEN
You this, but you got to make sure you get your goose Island numbers up or.
00:48:32 KEN
You gotta get.
00:48:33 KEN
Your XYZ. Well, I'd have to be Goose Island.
00:48:35 KEN
Because it was, he said. Brand Rep and not distribute distribution Rep.
00:48:41 KEN
Alright, one more.
00:48:43 KEN
And then we're gonna take a break before we.
00:48:45 KEN
Go into the news.
00:48:47 KEN
Am I the ******* for only bringing craft beer to the family Thanksgiving?
00:48:54 KEN
Hey all, truly don't know where to begin with this. I'm from Colorado and.
00:48:58 KEN
The beer culture.
00:48:59 KEN
Here is pretty big breweries everywhere. Families hang at breweries, et cetera.
00:49:04 KEN
Buying local is.
00:49:05 KEN
Also, a pretty big thing in this area and it's something I agree with.
00:49:09 KEN
Now, I don't consider myself one of those uppity beer snobs or anything I love to try beer, but if it.
00:49:15 KEN
Comes down to it.
00:49:16 KEN
A montucky cold snack is just as crushable as anything else.
00:49:21 KEN
I was in charge of the beer for this Thanksgiving. I grabbed a pretty big variety, but they were all small. They're breweries, no Miller, Stella, etcetera, but they weren't all super hoppy IPA's or uppity stouts.
00:49:35 KEN
Cheers to Bourbon County. There were loggers and pilsners and blonde nails, light beer, dark beer, hoppy beer and fruity beer.
00:49:44 KEN
They just all.
00:49:44 KEN
Happen to be smaller operations I could support.
00:49:49 KEN
Well, I got home with them and **** hit the fan. I got reamed out for trying to force people to drink my hipster beer and **** like that. Other people were bringing wine and cocktail mixers and stuff, so it's not like Thanksgiving was ruined, but I got seriously called some names and had some people get really mad at me over it.
00:50:09 KEN
Am I the *******?
00:50:12 KEN
We'll just continue going to Wendy for the first.
00:50:15 KEN
One or for this one the last one.
00:50:18 WENDY
So I feel like they missed a prime opportunity to buy local in bringing Coors because they're in Colorado. If there's a good reason to bring Coors.
00:50:28 DAN
Shout out Johnny Lawrence.
00:50:31 WENDY
To your family, to somebody else's house.
00:50:36 WENDY
I find it really amusing. You're not the ******* they told you to bring beer. You brought a bunch of.
00:50:41 WENDY
Different beers, I think you probably spent more than you would have if you had just brought all Miller.
00:50:45 WENDY
Or whatever they wanted.
00:50:48 WENDY
Who cares? Just drink something that you just try it. If.
00:50:52 WENDY
You don't like.
00:50:52 WENDY
It drink a wine or a pop or something. I don't know. No, you're not the asset.
00:50:58 KEN
Yes, there were other versions of alcohol there, wine, cocktails, et cetera. Rob, you're an *******.
00:51:06
Is this person?
00:51:08 ROB
No, definitely not an *******. They might have, you know, done a little better at knowing their audience. If this sounds like a family thing, so they should probably.
00:51:18 ROB
Have had some heads up of what was going on or what was going to happen, but the in the same vein they could have said, you know you love Coors. Well, here is the most similar cores from this local brewery. So we're supporting local this Thanksgiving type.
00:51:34 ROB
Of a thing.
00:51:35 ROB
Because every brewery has one of those.
00:51:38 DAN
Dan. Well yeah, wasn't it seller man's? They used to make the beer similar to PBR because they were playing to the audience like something.
00:51:48 KEN
Thrasher or trasher.
00:51:50 DAN
Or I think they had both of them. I don't remember what both of them were.
00:51:53 DAN
But you know, as long as.
00:51:55 DAN
You bought towards the style.
00:51:58 DAN
Of your family that they know like that, you know that they like. I don't think you're doing anything wrong. Let.
00:52:03 DAN
Know if you brought.
00:52:04 DAN
Just because we keep talking about it, cases of Goose Island BCBS.
00:52:09 DAN
That's ****** **.
00:52:10 DAN
But if you're bringing styles of beer, you think people will drink, there's nothing.
00:52:15 DAN
Wrong with that?
00:52:18 KEN
Before, like our, our families matriarch passed away and like everyone kind of splintered off into their own family holiday Christmas parties and stuff, all the adult children were just responsible for bringing their own beer like that. That was just the rule, you.
00:52:34 KEN
Brought your own ****.
00:52:36 KEN
And that was it. Like you didn't. You didn't bring anything else. So this guy had the opportunity to bring beer. It doesn't sound like he was given any rules and regulations as to what beer to bring.
00:52:50 KEN
I agree. You know, knowing your audience is kind of half the battle, but I don't think he also expected to be, you know, lit up verbally for bringing here beer like that. Like there is such an easy, rectifiable way to respond to.
00:53:00 DAN
That's totally spurred off.
00:53:09 KEN
That and be like.
00:53:10 KEN
Alright. Can you go to Walmart and buy a 24 of Miller Lite so you know Grandma Sally can drink her? You know, have her high lifetime or whatever, like.
00:53:21 KEN
This not only is this so over the top because they they went and bought a very big a charcuterie of beer, a variety pack and like you can resolve the issue by going to seven *** **** 11.
00:53:37 WENDY
He probably spent more than the people who provided the Turkey.
00:53:40 KEN
Ohh sure for sure.
00:53:41 WENDY
Let's be honest.
00:53:44 KEN
Yeah, I I think this person, I I think everybody else is the ******* here and I think this is if you guys do Reddit at all, this would definitely fall and the beggars choose or choosing beggars category of someone who is not only upset at the beer that's free.
00:54:02 KEN
To them but.
00:54:03 KEN
What beer they're getting because it's not their local silver bullet.
00:54:12 KEN
All right, that is episode.
00:54:14 KEN
