What does it mean to truly see God's goodness in a world that often seems consumed by darkness? Psalm 33 offers a profound perspective shift that could transform how you experience everyday life.

Diving deep into this powerful psalm, we explore the sovereignty of God in both creation and throughout human history. There's something remarkable about understanding that when God speaks, things happen immediately - not eventually, not partially, but fully and instantly. "He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast." This divine immediacy challenges us to reconsider how we view God's promises and their fulfillment in our lives.

Perhaps most striking is the psalm's declaration that "the earth is full of the goodness of the Lord." This stands in direct opposition to the common refrain that evil dominates our world. By aligning our perspective with Scripture rather than popular opinion, we begin to notice God's goodness manifesting all around us. The psalm reveals that those who honor God receive His special attention - "the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him" - resulting in protection and provision even during difficult times.

We also connect these teachings to the powerful promise in Psalm 1 that those who meditate on God's Word "day and night" will be "like a tree planted by rivers of water" that consistently bears fruit and prospers in everything they do. This prosperity isn't merely financial but encompasses every dimension of life. If you're tired of cycles of struggle and ready to experience God's best, this message offers practical insight on how meditation on Scripture transforms not just what you know, but how you think, feel, and receive from God. Listen, share with a friend, and begin seeing God's goodness everywhere around you.

Introduction to Psalm 33

Speaker 1

Hello, my name is Stephanie. Welcome to the All Is Well podcast. My mission is to teach people the Word of God and emphasize its importance in their daily lives. I'm glad you decided to join me today. Let's get started. Hello welcome to episode 37. Hello welcome to episode 37.

Speaker 1

In this episode I'm going to discuss Psalm 33, the sovereignty of the Lord in creation and history. Let's dive in. So let's turn to our Bibles, to Psalm 33, verse 1. Rejoice in the Lord, o you righteous. For praise from the upright is beautiful. Praise the Lord with a harp, make melody to him with an instrument of ten strings. So let's go back to verse 1. It reads so rejoice in the Lord. What does that even mean? It means to thank God for the day, rejoice in Him, thank Him for what he's done, thank Him for what he's about to do. And what does it say when praise? It says praise from the upright is beautiful. God loves to hear our praises. It is beautiful to Him. How do we praise Him? We sing by singing, making music, and when you're doing this it's joyful. You're praising God in a joyful manner.

The Goodness of God's Word

Speaker 1

Verse 4, for the word of the Lord is right. This is why we praise Him, because the word of the Lord is right and all His work is done in truth, not parts of it, not just the parts that we like, but all of his work is done in truth. He loves righteousness and justice. The earth is full of the goodness of the Lord. So you hear people. They say there's evil everywhere. But the Bible doesn't say that. It says here that the earth is full of the goodness of the Lord. So if you change your mindset and your perspective to what the word of God says, you'll begin to see the goodness of the Lord all around you.

Speaker 1

Verse 6. By the word of the Lord, the heavens were made and all the host of them. By the breath of his mouth, he gathers the waters of the sea together as a heap. He lays up the deep and store houses. So whenever God spoke, it was created. When he said let there be light, there was light. It didn't take a while to come, it came immediately. Again in verse 6, by the word of the Lord, the heavens were made. When he speaks, it occurs, it happens.

God's Sovereignty in Creation

Speaker 1

Verse 8,. Let all the earth fear the Lord. Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him. When you see the word fear, it does not mean to be afraid or to be scared when it's fearing the Lord. That means to have a reverence or an honor for the Lord. Then it says let all the inhabitants, all the people of the world, stand in awe of him. Be in awe of what God is doing in your life. Appreciate what he's doing we're not able to do the things that we've done without God and to be greatly amazed by the things that he's doing in your life, things that he's already done and things that he's about to do in your life.

Speaker 1

Verse 9, for he spoke and it was done. He commanded and it stood fast. Things don't wait With God. Whenever he speaks, it happens. Whenever he says it's going to take place.

Speaker 1

Verse 10, the Lord brings a counsel of the nations to nothing. He makes the plans of the peoples of no effect. The counsel of the Lord stands forever. It's what God says and the plans of his heart to all generations. So, if you notice, from, let's say, the 60s or the early 1900s, and people have the same message of God to deliver the word of God to everyone. And yes, it says in the Bible, but it's in their heart. It's in their heart and they hunger for it. They desire to tell people about the word of the Lord. And so you know. It says here that the plans of his heart and they put God first. God says that that nation is blessed, the people he has chosen as his own inheritance.

Blessings for Those Who Fear God

Speaker 1

The Lord looks from heaven. He sees all the sons of men From the place of his dwelling. He looks. So God is watching us. You can see right here in verse 12 and 14, god is watching us, he says, from the place of his dwelling. He looks on all the inhabitants of the earth. He fashions our heart individually. He considers all their works. So God is looking to what we've done. God is watching us. He knows what we're doing. He's considering everything that we're doing. He's paying attention to us.

Speaker 1

16. No king is saved by the multitude of an army. A mighty man is not delivered by great strength. A horse is a vain hope for safety. Neither shall it deliver any by its great strength. Verse 18, behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear him. Again, fear means to reverence and honor the Lord, and God says that when people fear the Lord, that the eye of the Lord is on those who fear him, on those who hope in his mercy to deliver their soul from death and to keep them alive in famine. So God says that the people who fear me and whose hope is in his mercy. God says that I will deliver their soul from death and I will keep them alive in famine. So you can also see with those scriptures that God doesn't want you to struggle. When you have the fear of the Lord, god says I'm going to keep you alive in famine. That means when everyone else is struggling, you should not be struggling. The people of God are the ones that should not be struggling. The people of God are the ones that should not be struggling. There should be a difference between a child of God and the people of the world. You should not be struggling the same, because God says I will keep them alive in famine.

Speaker 1

And God says that he has blessed us. And it says in verse 12, blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord. So, just like that, the nation should stand out. He helps us, he's our caretaker, he leads us, he guides us, he protects us and he gives us the wisdom. And where we don't have to keep going through those same situations over and over again Verse 20, our soul waits for the Lord. He is our help and our shield. So God helps us and he protects us. So right there, he is our help and our shield.

Speaker 1

It doesn't mean that you won't go through bad things. But for you to keep going through those things over and over again, like on a daily basis, weekly basis, then something is wrong. Because if you seek the Lord and you follow his commandments, god says that I am your help and I am your protector. God will protect you from those things. But if we don't allow him to have that place in our life, we may say that we do. But look at what's happening in your life. It should not be one thing after the next. What it should be instead for the child of God is blessing after blessing. You may think, but we're made to suffer. We're not made to suffer.

Meditation on God's Word

Speaker 1

Let's go on over real quick to Psalm 1. And I'm going to read Psalm 1. And Psalm 1 says Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful, but his delight is in the law of the Lord and in his law he meditates day and night. So this person. That is blessed. This person meditates on the word of God day and night. The word is in him day and night because he reads the word of God at least twice a day. And when this person does this, it says verse 3, he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither and whatever he does shall prosper. There's nothing suffering in that scripture, right there for God's people.

Speaker 1

It says that when you are meditating on the word of God day and night and you delight in the law of the Lord, you love the word of God and you listen and you follow his commandments. It says here that you shall be like a tree. But what kind of tree? You shall be like the tree planted by the rivers of water that brings forth its fruit in its season. That means that whatever you need, in whatever season, you will have it. You won't be wondering when you're going to get it. You won't be suffering without it. It doesn't say that. It says that you will have what you need during that time. And it says too whose leaf also shall not wither. It will not wither, it will not die, and whatever he does, he shall prosper. That means whatever you put your hands on, you will prosper. Your family should prosper. Your finances should prosper. In your job, you should prosper In your relationship, you should prosper. Your finances should prosper In your job. You should prosper In your relationship. You should prosper With your family, with your co-workers, with your friends, with your neighbors. Everything should prosper. That is a blessing of the children of God.

Speaker 1

Make sure that you know the difference. Make sure that, yes, you may love God, but does your life reflect that? If it doesn't, then what do you need to do? Look what it says in Psalm 1. Meditate on the Word of God. Meditate and you will see that change in your life, because when the Word of God gets in you, it's in you because you're reading it day and and night and not just for one minute. You need to be in that word, read it constantly, meditate on the word of God, and when you do that, god will start to change your mind and your heart to line up with the word of God. You'll start to think differently, react differently and receive the blessing from the Lord.

Speaker 1

Let's go back to Psalm 33, verse 20. So our soul waits for the Lord. He is our help and our shield, for our heart shall rejoice in him because we have trusted in his holy name. Let your mercy, o Lord, be upon us, just as we hope in you. So Psalm 33 is about worshiping and praising the Lord for who he is and what he's done, and it's also telling us that the word of the Lord is right and it's true, and everything that the Lord does is good. So what I would recommend for you to do is to meditate on these scriptures, meditate on the word of God day and night. Get that word deep into your heart, deep into your spirit and mind, so God can do a work in your life.
