Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
We walk through what the Bible actually says about long life and why God ties “length of days” to choosing life, obeying His Word, and staying close to Him. We also challenge the fear-based words we speak over ourselves and replace them with scripture, prayer, and trust when pressure or bad reports show up.
• Deuteronomy’s choice between life and death and God’s instruction to choose life
• Obedience as a practical path to prolonged days and a life that goes well
• Healing and restoration and refusing to accept sickness as your identity
• Meditating on the Word day and night so scripture comes up quickly
• Guarding your tongue and avoiding being snared by your own words
• Psalm 91 and abiding in God’s presence for deliverance and long life
• God’s wisdom, reverence for the Lord, and years added to your life
• Honoring father and mother as a commandment with a promise
• Handling anxiety, prayer over panic, and trusting God over a doctor’s report

Welcome And The Long Life Theme
SPEAKER_00Hello, my name is Stephanie. Welcome to the All Is Well Podcast. My mission is to teach people the Word of God and emphasize its importance in their daily lives. I'm glad you decided to join me today. Let's get started. Welcome to episode 52. In this episode, we are going to discuss long life. Did you know the Bible has a lot of scriptures that deal with long life? Well, in today's episode, we are going to talk about the long life that God has for us and what we can do to obtain it. So let's get started. So now let's turn on over to our Bibles to Deuteronomy chapter 30 verse 15. And so it reads in Deuteronomy chapter 30 verse 15. See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil, and that I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments, his statues, and his judgments, that you may live and multiply, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land which you go to possess. But if your heart turns away so that you do not hear and are drawn away and worship other gods and serve them, I announce to you today that you shall surely perish. You shall not prolong your days in the land which you cross over the Jordan to go in and possess. I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing, therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live, that you may love the Lord your God, that you may obey his voice, and that you may cling to him, for he is your life, and the length of your days, and that you may dwell in the land which the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob to give them. So as we can see here, reading, there's things that God has given us. He said that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing. So we have these two different things that we can choose from. And he even gives us the answer. He says, Therefore choose life. Choose the abundant life. And how do you do that? And why? What will happen when we choose life? God says that both you and your descendants may live. We may live, that you may love the Lord your God, and that you may obey his voice, and that you may cling to him, for he is your life in the length of days. So that goes on to say that God wants us to have a long life. Cursing and death will shorten your life. And he did say here in verse 17, it says, But if your heart turns away so that you do not hear and are drawn away and worship other gods and serve them, I announce to you today that you shall surely perish. So when you're pulling away from God, worshiping other idols or doing different things, your life is shortened because you're not walking with God. God is the one that produces long life. God is the one that gives us long life. That is where it comes from. Let's head on over to Deuteronomy chapter 5, verse 33. It reads in Deuteronomy 5, 33, You shall walk in all the ways which the Lord your God has commanded you, that you may live and that it may be well with you, and that you may prolong your days in the land which you possess. That means that your days will be long. How can you prolong your days? By doing what God has commanded you and I, and obeying Him and walking in His ways. God says that I will give you long life. That's how you prolong your life. Just because people around us are getting sick, that doesn't mean that they have to die young. God also is a God of healing and restoration. And so when sickness or disease or anything like that comes in our life, we don't have to accept it, but to speak the word of God, know what the word of God says, and live the word of God out and know that God is a healer and that he can heal us and that he will heal us. But you have to know his word. If you don't know his word, then when a doctor report comes in, or if somebody else tells you that you're going to die early, you're going to believe that. But that's why it's important for you to know the word. And just like it says in Joshua, it says to meditate on the word day and night. Day and night. That means to do it every day, twice a day. Because the more that you have the word of God in you, then you'll know it better. It's ingrained in you. If you have children or family, do you know their name or do you have to ask them every day? You know them. Do you know things about them, or do you have to keep asking them about certain things, personal things or things that they like? No, because you're with them all the time. You don't have to ask them again, what's your favorite food or what's your name? Where do you work? Because you know them. It's the same way with God. You have to keep meditating on his word, getting to know him and who he is. Let that word become alive in your heart. And so that way it's easy to know what the word of God is. So let's keep reading more scriptures on a long life. Let's go to Psalm chapter 34, verse 12. So in Psalm chapter 34, verse 12, it reads, Who is a man who desires life and loves many days that he may see good? Keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking deceit. So he's saying here, who loves many days? Who wants to live a long life? I do, and I'm sure you do as well. Then what does the word of God say in verse 13? It says, Keep your tongue from evil. Don't speak evil, and your lips from speaking deceit. Depart from evil and do good. Seek peace and pursue it. Because when you're speaking evil and you're speaking deceit, you're not following God. The word of God is not in you. So then God can't bless you, and that's when the curse comes on your life. And just like the other scripture that ties into this, Proverbs 6, 2, it says, You are snared by the words of your mouth. That means when it says you're in 13, keep your tongue from evil, because our words can get us into trouble. Our words can either get us into trouble or they can take us to the place where God wants us to go. We can speak life into our future, or we can speak death. And as it says in Proverbs 6, 2, you are snared by the words of your mouth. That means when we don't speak good, when we speak death over our life, when we say, well, in my family, people die at such a young age, or my family always gets these this type of disease or sickness. You're trapping yourself. You're prophesying over your life. You are saying that you're going to die young. And as it says in Proverbs 6:2, you are snared by the words of your mouth. You trapped yourself. So that's why it's important to speak the word of God and to have it in your heart. Don't be trapped by your words, but let your words propel you to the place where God wants you to go. Then let's go over to Psalm 91. So Psalm 91, verse 14. It reads, Because he has set his love upon me, therefore I will deliver him. I will set him on high because he has known my name. I will be with him in trouble. I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him. Do you see it right there? With long life, God wants us to have long life. And it says, with long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation. But it says here on this for Psalms 91, the title is Safety of Abiding in the Presence of God. When you're dwelling, and it reads in verse 1, he who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will save the Lord, he is my refuge and my fortress, my God in him I will trust. So when we're in there in God's presence, we're following him, we're with him. God says, When we call upon him, he will answer us, he will be with us in trouble, he will deliver us and honor us, and he will give us long life. That's how we can get long life, it says right there. Let's keep going. Let's go to Proverbs chapter 3. In Proverbs chapter 3, verse 1 and 2. My son, do not forget my law, but let your heart keep my commands. For length of days and long life and peace, they will add to you. There's long life again. How can we get long life? By keeping God's commands, by keeping his word of by keeping the word of God, having it in our heart. That means we're going to obey him, we're going to listen to him, we're going to follow the instruction he has given to us. And what happens when we do that? He says, for length of days and long life and peace, they will add to us. Amen. Next, let's move on to verse 16 of the same chapter. And this part is in regards to wisdom. With wisdom, God's wisdom, length of days is in her right hand. In her left hand are riches and honor. So with wisdom, God's wisdom, which means you're doing the smart thing the right way. And in verse 13 it reads, Happy is the man who finds wisdom and the man who gains understanding. Wisdom is very important to have. Not the world's wisdom, but God's wisdom. And when we have God's wisdom, it says in verse 16, Length of days is in her right hand. Because we're going to be wise. We're not going to be foolish. We're not going to be doing foolish things, because foolish things get you in trouble. Wise things do not. They prolong your life. Let's keep going. Proverbs chapter nine. Let's start at verse ten. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. For by me your days will be multiplied, and years of life will be added to you. If you are wise, you're wise for yourself, and if you scoff, you will bear it alone. So let's look back in verse ten. The fear of the Lord is a beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. So getting the wisdom and knowledge. When we get those two things, as I mentioned before, God says, For by me your days will be multiplied. When we have God's wisdom, our days will be multiplied. Don't you want to live a long life here on this earth? There are things that God wants us to do on this earth. He has called each and every one of us to fulfill a purpose, to do something to impact people's lives. And we can't do it if we're not here on the earth anymore. And yes, it's good to go to heaven, but there is a mission, there's things that God wants us to do. And we need to understand and know that the main thing that He wants us to do is to share the gospel, share the good news with other people. And so if we're not here to do that, then He's going to speak to that person. Maybe you are the only one that would speak and to impact that person's life. So it's our job to fulfill the calling that God has on our life and to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with everyone. Let's go to Proverbs chapter 10, verse 27. It reads, The fear of the Lord prolongs days, but the years of the wicked will be shortened. So it does say whose life will be shortened, the wicked, people who are not following God, who rebel against God, who want nothing to do with him. But the fear of the Lord prolongs days. It doesn't mean that you're scared of the Lord. It means that you have an honor and you have a reverence for the Lord. And when you do that, you're gonna follow his ways, you're gonna obey his commands, which produces long life. Let's go to another scripture. Ephesians chapter six. So in Ephesians chapter six, verse one, children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother, which is the first commandment with promise, that it may be well with you, and that you may live long on the earth. Verse one, children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother, which is the first commandment with promise, that it may be well with you, and you may live long on the earth. So on this scripture right here, God is telling children to obey their parents. But it's not just young children. It's at any age. It doesn't matter how old we are, we are commanded to honor our mother and father. And when we do that, it says that this is the first commandment with promise. It says, When you do this, then you will receive this. So when we honor our mother and father, it says here, then that it may be well with you. Do you want everything you want things to go well with you in your life? I do. Then it says, honor your mother and father. And you may live long on the earth. So obedience to your parents will produce long life. Because those are the people who God has put in charge of us. Even when we're getting older and we're out of the house and we're married, it still says, the Bible says, to honor your father and mother. So by reading all of these scriptures, we have learned that God wants us to live a long life. He doesn't want us to cut our life or take anything away from us, but he wants to bless us. He has a purpose for us. And he says that when we come into the knowledge of God and we meditate on the word day and night, then that is going to produce long life because you're going to obey his commandments. You're going to follow what it says in his word and do it. And that's what produces a long life because you're listening to him. It says to honor your parents, and you're going to do that because it says that. And you'll follow the word of God. Follow what it says. So don't think that because someone has died young or died of a sickness or disease, that that's just the way that it is for everyone. It's not. You don't know how people are living their lives or what their relationship is truly with God. But what you can do is control how you think, what you speak about yourself. You want to speak good things about yourself. You want to say, thank you, God, that I will live a long life. Thank you, God, for healing me. Go to his scriptures. And it doesn't matter if you go to the doctor and you get a bad report and he says, You only have five months to live or a year to live. Which word are you going to hang on to? Are you going to hang on to the word that the doctor gave you? Or are you going to hang on to the word of God? The word of God is nothing but promises for our life. But only if we abide in his word and we live in it, God says that I will honor you and I will give you long life. And if we get that report, but God, I'm, but it said this, I guess that's going to happen to me. God wants that for me. No, because God is a God who heals. He died on the cross for our healing. So you could say, thank you, God, that I'm abiding in your word. Thank you, God, for a long life. I believe your word, not what the doctor said. Because that is the enemy. He comes in to steal, kill, and to destroy. But Jesus said that I may come that they may have life and to the abundance. God wants us to have the abundant life. So remember that. Don't get confused. Don't get worried about things that are happening on the outside, that life is short and all these political things and the end is coming. What are you going to do? Don't stress yourself out about that. That's none of your concern. Pray for those things, but live according to the word of God. And just like it says in the Bible, it says, be anxious for nothing. Absolutely nothing. It doesn't matter how small it is or how big it is. It says in the Word of God to be anxious for nothing. But in everything with prayer and supplication, let your request be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your heart and mind. So pray instead of getting worried. Ask God to intervene. Get into His word. Get that word in you. When you have that word in you, then that word immediately comes up out of your mouth and you speak that word out of your mouth. You produce life instead of producing death. So when something comes, you say, Thank you, God, for blessing me. Thank you, God, for long life. Don't say, this always happens to me. I'm not going to live a long life. You're trapping yourself with your words. Say, thank you, God, for what you've done for me and my family. Thank you, God, for delivering me. Thank you, God, that you're my restorer. You're my healer. Know his word. Well, before we close, I want to say a prayer. Thank you, God, for everyone that has listened to this message. Thank you, God, that we will all spend more time in the Word of God and that we will cling to your word. And thank you, God, that we will obey your commandments that you have for us. We will honor our mother and father, and we will take hold of the wisdom that you have for us. And by doing that, we will have long life on this earth. And thank you, God, that we will speak good things that will produce good life and produce good things in our life. Thank you, God, for all the great things that you're doing in our lives. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen. So if this message helped you in any way, share it with a friend or family member. And thank you for tuning in.
