Trust is easy to talk about until you’re staring down a decision you cannot control. I sit with a simple question that changes everything: what does it actually mean to trust, and why does trusting God sometimes feel harder than trusting people you can see? We start with a clear definition of trust, then connect it to something practical: trust grows through relationship, consistency, and knowing someone’s character.
From there, I open the Bible and let Scripture do the heavy lifting. Psalm 37 calls us to trust in the Lord, do good, commit our way to Him, and “feed on his faithfulness.” Proverbs 3:5-6 takes it even deeper, challenging us to trust with all our heart and stop leaning on our own understanding so God can direct our paths. We also talk through powerful Bible verses about trust that address real life: fear of people, safety, happiness, and what it looks like to trust God when the situation feels impossible.
Then we move into the promises that come with trust in God. Isaiah 26:3 describes perfect peace when our minds stay on Him, and we talk about why faith and doubt cannot coexist. Jeremiah 17 and Psalm 1 picture a steady, fruitful life like a tree planted by water, even in drought. Finally, John 15 ties it all together with the vine and branches: abiding in Jesus is where trust becomes daily, lived, and fruitful.

Welcome And Purpose
SPEAKER_00Hello, my name is Stephanie. Welcome to the All Is Well Podcast. My mission is to teach people the Word of God and emphasize its importance in their daily lives. I'm glad you decided to join me today. Let's get started. Hello. Welcome to episode 54.
What Trust Really Means
SPEAKER_00In this episode, we are going to talk about trust. What does it mean to trust? Well, the definition for trust is to have a firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something. So in order to have trust in someone, you need to believe what they say. You need to have confidence. You need to have faith in them. How does that even happen? How can we reach that point of trusting someone? Who is the one that we need to trust the most? It is God. We need to trust him. Think of a friend or a family member or anyone. And you probably have heard this before and they'll say, Trust me, I got this. Trust me, don't worry about it, I'll handle it for you. Based on what they've done for you in the past, you'll either know Yes I can trust them or no I can't trust them. But how do you even come to that conclusion? You come to that conclusion based on the relationship that you've had with that person. If that person does everything that they say they're going to do and they do it, then you'll have your full confidence and trust in that person and you believe what they say. But if someone comes up to you and tells you, trust me, I'm going to take care of this, but yet they've already showed you in the past that whenever they've said that, they haven't really taken care of it the way that it should be. So, like I said, in this episode, we're going to talk about trust and how important trust is in our relationship with God because He is the one that we should trust the most in anything that we do.
Trust God By Knowing Him
SPEAKER_00But how can we trust God? How can you trust someone that you don't know? Can you trust a stranger? Do you have more faith in a stranger than you do someone that you know? No, because you don't know them. How can we trust God? We can trust God by reading the Bible. We need to know who He is because we can't trust Him or it's hard for us to trust Him if we don't know who He is. If we can't take Him at His Word or know what He means, then it will be hard for us to trust Him. But when we dive into the Word of God and we feed ourselves with the Word of God, then we begin to know who God is. Then we know that we can trust and have that full confidence in Him because He always fulfills and always does what He says He's going to do. That's our God. So it's easier to know God when we know Him. If it's hard for you to trust God, that means that you probably don't have a good relationship with Him. In order to know who He is, in order to trust Him, you really have to know who He is. So let's get started and let's look in the scriptures about what this trust looks like. So let's go on over to our Bibles to Psalm 37. So in Psalm 37, verse 3 it reads, Trust in the Lord and do good. Dwell in the land and feed on his faithfulness. Delight yourself also in the Lord, and he shall give you the desires of your heart. So let's stop right there. It says trust in the Lord. He's telling us to trust him. And what happens when we trust him? It says to trust him and do good. Dwell in the land and feed on his faithfulness. Delight yourself also in the Lord, and he shall give you the desires of your heart, because we trust in him. Verse 5, commit your way to the Lord, trust also in him. Because when you commit your way to the Lord, which means that, God, I want to do this, but what do you want for me? I want what you want for me. Show me what I should do about this. You're trusting him because you know him. You know that he has something better for you than what you have for yourselves. So that's what it says here. Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in him, and he shall bring it to pass. That means when we trust him and we have our full confidence in God, he will bring it to pass. He shall bring forth your righteousness as a light and your justice as the noonday. So it's not just about us trusting God, and then that's it. He actually does what he says he's going to do. Let's go to Proverbs chapter three, verse five.
Commit Your Way And Be Guided
SPEAKER_00So in Proverbs chapter three, verse five, it reads, Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Again, he starts off with trust. And lean not on your own understanding. If you see a pattern earlier when we read in Psalm, it said commit your way. It said to commit your way. And this one says, and lean not on your own understanding. So that means when we're trusting the Lord, that we need to put our understanding, our ways, our thinking to the side, because that's what blocks us, that's what stops us from progressing and going to the place where the Lord wants us to go to. And verse 6, in all your ways, acknowledge him, and he shall direct your paths. That's what the trust in God does. It's not just for us to say, oh, I trust him, and then don't do anything. We have to include God in our lives, meditate on the word of God, know who he is, have a good prayer life, and trust him in that process. And it's easier to trust him in that process, and then we begin to see the work that he's doing in our lives. Let's continue with this.
Safety And Joy In Trust
SPEAKER_00Let's go to Proverbs chapter 29. So Proverbs chapter 29, verse 25 reads, The fear of man brings a snare. But whoever trusts in the Lord shall be safe. Why will we be safe when we trust in the Lord? Because He knows everything, He has our best interest at heart. Like it says in Isaiah 54, for your thoughts and your ways are higher than our ways. So what we're thinking, no matter how high that we're thinking, no matter how good that we're thinking, God always has something better for us than what we have for ourselves. So it says here, but whoever trust in the Lord shall be safe, will be safe with God. Let's go to Proverbs 16, verse 20. He who heeds the word wisely will find good. And whoever trusts in the Lord, happy is he. So someone who trusts in the Lord is happy. Why would we be happy? Because of the goodness of the Lord. Because we know who God is. He brings us peace, he brings us joy. We trust him in our decisions and our endeavors and everything that comes in our life. And when we do, when we trust in him, because we know he's going to bring good things to our life, then we're happy. And at the beginning of that, it says, He who heeds the word wisely will find good. It's paying attention to the word wisely, listening to what God says, following what he does, trusting him. Here's the other thing is trusting God when it may seem difficult, when it may seem impossible. Like it says in the Bible too, but without faith, it is impossible to please God. We can't just think of, well, that seems hard, it's not gonna make it, it won't be okay. No. But without faith, it is impossible to please God, and that's where you get your faith, that's where you get your trust, and you combine those two together, relying on God. Let's read more about this. Let's go to Psalm chapter 9, verse 10. So in Psalm verse 9, and so in Psalm chapter 9, verse 10, and those who know your name will put their trust in you. For you, Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you. There's something else that God does when we trust him. He will not leave us. That's what it says. For you, Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you. When we trust him, we're seeking him, we're finding him, we want him to be in our lives. We include him in our lives. And it says, God says, I will not forsake you, I'm always with you. So we're never alone. God is guiding us, he's leading us, he's protecting us, guiding us into all truth. Let's head on over to Isaiah.
Perfect Peace Over Doubt
SPEAKER_00Let's head on over to Isaiah chapter 26, verse 3. You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. You will keep him in perfect peace. We'll have perfect peace, not the peace that the world gives. You can see where people make videos and they'll say things like, This is my peace, this is where I feel peace. Yeah, and you can, but with the Lord, you'll have perfect peace, which means no matter what trial, situation, circumstance, no matter what you're going through, you know that you can still have perfect peace through that situation. It says here, those who trust in the Lord will have perfect peace. Whose mind, and also don't forget about this part too, it says, Whose mind is stayed on you. If we're on Him, our mind is on Him, it's hard for it to go to doubt. Because when our mind is on God, we have faith. When we have faith, there's no room for doubt. Faith and doubt cannot coincide. Faith and doubt are separate. Let's go to another scripture, Jeremiah chapter 17,
Rooted And Fruitful With God
SPEAKER_00verse 7 through 8. And this one reads, Blessed is a man who trusts in the Lord and whose hope is in the Lord. So let's stop right there. So someone who trusts in the Lord is what is blessed, is blessed. You're trusting in him. You're not trying to do things on your own or just do whatever you want, but you're trusting in the Lord. You're listening for his instruction, you're following him. He says, I don't want you to do that, I want you to do this instead. You'll listen to him, and it says that those people who do that, who trust in the Lord, will be blessed. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, which spreads out its roots by the river, and will not fear when he comes, but its leaf will be green, and will not be anxious in the year of drought, nor will cease from yielding fruit. That's what happens to us when we trust in the Lord, and when our hope is in the Lord. We're gonna be like that tree. And that's the same thing in Psalms 1, where it talks about when our mind is on God, that we're blessed no matter what we do. You won't be anxious in the year of drought, and you will not cease from yielding fruit that you will always produce because you trust in the Lord. In Psalms 1, it says the same thing. Because we have to remember that we're connected to the vine. When we're with Jesus, we're connected to the vine. And we are the branches and he is the vine. If he is never lacking and he is always doing well and prosperous, and we're attached to him, then that's going to be the same thing for us. It's not going to be any different. Think about your children. If you're a parent, are you living a prosperous life, but yet your children are suffering, they don't have clothes, they don't have food to eat, or things like that. No. Whatever you have, they have, and probably more, right? You're gonna bless your children because they're connected to you. It's the same thing with us in God. We're connected to him. He is the vine, we are the branches, so whatever he has, we have too. So in Psalm one, it says, Blessed is a man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seed of the scornful, but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in his law he meditates day and night. This is where trust goes. This is how you get your trust, because we delight in the law of the Lord. And what happens to this person when he does this? It says, He shall be like a tree, like we read in Jeremiah, planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither, and whatever he does shall prosper. Look what it says here, and whatever he does shall prosper. And in Jeremiah it says, Nor will cease from yielding fruit. When we're attached to the vine, when we're connected to God. Let's read about the vine and the branches. What does that look like? Let's go to John chapter 15. So in John chapter 15, I was saying that whatever God has, we should be the same. So it says, then John chapter 15, verse 1, I am the true vine, and this is Jesus speaking, and he says, I am the true vine, and my father is a vine dresser. Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that bears fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit. You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you, abide in me and I in you, as the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine. Neither can you unless you abide in me. Isn't that what I was just talking about? How when we're connected to God we can produce fruit. Verse five. I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in me and I in him bears much fruit. See together with God will bear much fruit, for without me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered, and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. If you abide in me and my words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit, so will you be my disciples? So you see the connection that's there? When we because Jesus is the vine, the Father, which is God, is a vine dresser, and we are the branches, so everything is connected. Everything bears fruit, like it says. And it says, For without me, you can do nothing. And we're separated from God, we wither away. But when we're connected with him, we fully trust in God because he supplies our every need, he's there for us. So I want you to think about do you trust God
Daily Steps And Closing Prayer
SPEAKER_00in your life? Do you want to trust God? Then make a commitment, make a decision to know who God is, because it's hard to trust someone that you don't know and that you're not connected to. So spend time in the Word, attend a spirit-filled church that teaches the Word of God, and make time for Him every single day. If the Bible seems confusing when you read it, say your prayer at the beginning and ask God, ask the Holy Spirit to give you wisdom and to help you to understand what you're reading, and he will give you revelation and he will help you through it. Don't give up because it may seem difficult. So before we close here, I want to say a prayer. Thank you, God, for everyone that is listening right now. Thank you, God, that we have the ability to trust you because we are connected to you. We are the branches and you are the vine. And thank you, God, that we bear much fruit because of you. And thank you, God, for helping us to abide in your word and to trust you in everything that we do. Amen. Well, if this message helped you in any way, share it with a friend or a family member. And thank you for tuning in. If you have not accepted Jesus into your life, say the salvation prayer with me. Heavenly Father, I admit that I have sinned. I repent. I believe in my heart you raised Jesus from the dead. I confess with my mouth, Jesus is Lord and my Savior. Right now, I receive forgiveness by the blood of Jesus. Come into my life. I am saved. In Jesus' name. Amen. I'm glad you pray that salvation prayer. Make sure that you plug yourself into a spirit filled church and read the Word of God. Well, I hope you enjoy the message and thank you for tuning in.
